This video showed me how to remove and install the printhead, so I could clean it and get rid of the error. Thank you for saving me the time and cost of waiting for a technician and/or replacing the printer.
This made everything crystal clear, the key is you have to rotate the print head as you remove it to get it out of the printer and reverse the action as you replace it. I was almost in tears trying to remove mine till I happened on this. If you have to clean the pint head try using a dilute mix of ammonia and water (a capful or two to 8oz water) instead of alcohol, this seems to work much better than alcohol. Straight ammonia wiped ink right off your fingers, just make sure to rinse off later with water.
Ha ha ha, it worked! I followed the video because I had no clue how to remove the print head. once I got it out, I cleaned it, and now my printer works again. I did not have to throw it on the floor and stamp on the pieces after all!

OMG! You just saved my almost new MG5620 from the 1403 error code of death! I followed the instructions in this video to the letter. I then very gently cleaned the print head with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. I then followed up by unplugging the printer, choosiing "print head alignment" from control panel--devices and printers-- right click canon printer--printing preferences--maintenance. I then plugged the printer back in, power button and the printer started the print head alignment before the error code 1403 could appear.
Omigosh!! it worked!!. I was going to buy a replacement printhead, but they were $60 and - biggest problem - all came from China and would take a couple of weeks to get here. So I tried this simple fix and - Voila! - new printer. Thanks so much!

I got the print head out but I got the same 1304 error after printing two pages. I think I'm going to have to find the felt pad where the ink is dumped and clean it out. Thanks for the help in getting the print head out.
if any clog or dryness Keep print head under the warm tap water rains few minutes then dry and use . print few pages if print not clear then after one another page print will start perfect (if print head 's life is not finished.)
I was going great until I tried to flip the print head out. It just doesn't flip out so easily on my Canon PIXMA MG5420. If I can't get it out, I may as well get a new printer. Too bad that the "Cleaning" and "Deep Cleaning" software doesn't solve the cleaning issue.
I did it and if I can do it anyone can! Problem is that after a thorough cleaning, my printer is still producing blurry print. Maybe ink behind the print head?
Reading about this problem online it's insane how common it is. Shame on Canon for allowing such a stupid design flaw that renders the printer a boat anchor without major surgery!
You must have a pixma mg 5420! You can get it out, it is very tight and hits on a projection but after a while of trying , it finally bumps past what"s holding it and it tips out! First time it took me 1/2 hour!

No do not run it under water!! Use our Canon Print head cleaner that is made specifically for cleaning your edible printer

Doesn't work for me. Not enough clearance on top of the printer. Not enough headroom for the printhead to rotate out.
