    Wow, I had no idea such a simple cartridge was so complex. That's the issue I'm having right now. I thought it was the print head alone. This video is the most informative I've seen. Thank you.

    Great info. Thank you! The ink cartridge was the problem. I had another set of ink cartridges for a different Canon printer that were brand new. They fit but would not communicate with the printer, so I popped off the chip from the old cartridges, popped them on the new, and thank goodness they worked beautifully. I was up until 3:00 am with a job that should have been done at 10pm easily. Cleaned printhead with hot water twice, dried it properly, refilled cartridges, ran print head cleaning 3 times. Nothing work and by pure luck, I had new cartridges from another model that fit. You better believe I was praying hard!! Moral of the story is don't wait until the last minute. The frustrating part was that the ink continually drained from the old cartridges. I guess they need to be replaced??

    Thank you for your ongoing efforts in this forum. I am using a Canon Pixma MX 922. I had been using Costco refill cartridges with my previous identical printer, but since I mostly print in black and white, the color print heads got so clogged the printer was unusable, so I bought a new one and swore I wouldn't use refills anymore. I also made a practice of running a nozzle check weekly so things would keep running. That seemed to work, so I was able to print good looking photos. However, I still had a magenta Costco refill, and I broke my vow and put that in when my last magenta cartridge ran out. Today, I printed a photo, it looked awful. So I ran a nozzle check, and no magenta came through. I ran both regular and deep cleaning, but still no magenta. I replaced the cartridge with an OEM magenta, but still, no magenta on the nozzle check. What next???

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That does not sound good. Let it sit and rest for a day or so and re run a nozzle check. No more deep cycles. Only regular ones. Followed by nozzle check. Also not more regular printing until you solve this or the print head will be permanently damaged.

    Just bought a Canon Pixma ix6850 to print large prints and some photos, for learning. Your video was great learning, am going to use refillable cartridges to experiment cheaply. The printer was a display model and came without any packaging or cartridges or anything else. But at just over £50 fitted my budget, total of £125 for 100 A3 Kodak's photo paper, 3 year warranty and 5 sets of ink cartridges from the internet will get me started on digital photography. I woll try Canon cartridges when I get more confident. Your video helped a lot .

    very good information, and well presented. I wonder if you know about UCR (Under Color Removal)? Most people don't realize that under normal settings, the colors combine to make black ink, using up a lot of colored ink unnecessarily. This can be avoided when printing black and white by setting the printer on 'grayscale'. This uses black only.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes many canon have that function but the results are not great as Dye black inks are never neutral. They tend to be purplish in actual color. So yellow and other colors are needed to help neutralize the results. There is not way to really get away from using ink!

    Hi Jose, your videos have been very helpful! I just bought a used canon mx922 printer (my first printer ever) I’m getting code B200, I’ve flushed the print head using the kitchen sink, I just saw your video about placing a windex soaked paper towel under the cart (currently doing that right now!) How do I know if the print head needs to be replaced or if I should continue flushing/cleaning and get new ink tanks? Thanks so much for your videos they have been very helpful to expand my knowledge!!

    Thank you, sir. I thought my 5220 had finally succumbed as two non-empty tanks had stopped printing. It turned out that the flow had stopped and no repeated head cleaning did nothing to improve the situation. i think heat/hot weather/hot ambient temperature led to drying and an air gap. It was white/dry at bottom of the tray where the sponge interfaces with the unit. With new insight from your video, I got the ink flowing again.

      It't not supposed to drip while the Fill Plug is ini place. Once you remove it then it will drain regardless of original level. Make sure you fill when you reach low. Meaning the liquid chamber has JUST Reached empty and the sponge will then still be saturated and able to continue to deliver ink after you top off the liquid chamber.

    Hi Had a problem yesterday with my Canon Pixma 4700. No Yellow ink on prints. The yellow cartridge stated sufficient ink , Replaced it with a brand new cartridge
    But still no results after reading the details on this video I just took out the new cartridge squeezed it "Gently" replaced and yes it worked I believed that I had not used the printer for some while, and with the low amount of in in the old cartridge (although stating it was enough) the sponge part in the cartridge had dried out Printer although quite old is working fine fingers crossed . Thank you for sorting my problem out

      What the chip reports and what is actually present in the cart can be totally different. The thing that will kill any Canon printer is not using it or using compatible carts.

    Omg! my colour prints were very heavily skewed/tinted blue! I performed a pattern nozzle check and saw that I was getting no yellow ink in the print out. Used a cotton Q-tip to gently push the sponge up and saturate it with yellow ink as it had gotten a tad dry by the area where it would dispense... and walla!!! Perfect print!

    I have a Pro 10. I have been printing the last few weeks with no issues. Replaced the ink with cannon ink only. Now I am not getting any color. When I print a test page I don't have anything from the PC, Y, M, R and PM heads. I replaced the cartridges with cannon ink and did a few cleaning cycles. The color level on them is dropping but still get nothing from a test print. Also, I am printing from a MackBook Pro from lightrooom.

  • @oziermuhammad2488
    @oziermuhammad2488 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr.Rodriguez, I find your tutorials indispensable. Thank you. I am getting a spotty nozzle check in the photo black line on my Epson Surecolor P-600 printer. All the other lines render a good result on the nozzle check. The PK happens to be an Inkjet Mall cart. When I ordered it earlier this year, I filled it, and primed it, the prints I made with it were great. I believe I topped it off several weeks ago. Could the spotty nozzle check be a result of air getting into the line; "a flow problem." If there is air in the line, how do I get rid of it? if it is some other problem, what should I do? All the other carts are OEM. Again, the only cart that's rendering a bad nozzle check is the 3rd party cart. Thanks for all that you share with us.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Re prime that cart. Insert a syringe with a PLAIN tip into the port and suck back till you get ink. Top off the cart back to full and then you will have to run cleaning cycles till the nozzle check is once again 100%.

    • @cheo1949

      The normally do not have that plug. There the original CLI-42 Carts for the pro-100 which you have to modify for refilling. Check on the CLI-42 Playlist for all the videos detailing everything you need to do. Just F member to never consider third party refillable or compatible carts and only use the OEM carts.

      I don't know that particular model too well but it seems to be just a 4 color model so all I can suggest is to run cleaning cycles followed by another nozzle check and compare it to the previous one for any improvements. If this JUST happened out of the blue I would would suspect it is not a true clog but something else more serious. The printer sit for a while unused? Were you running other inks that were not OEM before the problem showed up?

    My 251 Canon cartridges aren't clear, so I can't see the ink levels, and they are built different than your example. They've been refilled at Costco, and I always have spares, some XL and some the original smaller tank. Costco puts a white sticker over what's probably the fill port, so I'm guessing you'd say that I should remove the orange cap, hold the tank over a paper towel, and peel back the sticker to check free flow. But I can't see how low the tank gets in the process.
    All that said, when I put in different cartridges I still don't get yellow or black on my MG7520, giving poorly colored photo prints. So shouldn't that point at a bad printhead? I got so aggravated (this is my 5th Canon printer and 4th photo printer) that I bought a $300 Brother color laser printer for non-photo printing and I love it. It's photos aren't all that bad either, just not the best, but at least there's no more confounded and costly cartridge issues!

    Hi Jose. Thanks a lot for the information. I'll be sure to take a note of that if ever I encounter one. I however have a question for you. Your assistance will surely help me a lot. I have a Canon Pixma 2770. When it ran out of ink, I took the liberty of refilling it while watching a video here on TH-cam. I made sure I carefully followed all the steps not missing any single detail. Now, the thing is, it can now only print the CYAN ink, and prints a very blurred black- mostly indistinguishable. I can't afford to buy a new printer. What would you suggest I do to keep all the colors working? Thanks a lot and I really hope to hear from you.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I can tell you is that you messed up the refilling. If it worked before that and no it does not then it has to be due to the refilling. Those cartridge types are not easy to refill and their integrated circuitry / print head can only be used...well... once. They are not modern carts that any modern CANON Printer would currently use..

      Assuming you are NOT refilling of using Compatible carts, you have a bad, possibly dead Cyan Channel. It's that simple. You can either get a new print head or a new printer. Both will cost about the same. By the way I do not use any of the CANON Printers except the PRO lines 13" wide and larger so I am at all not familiar with non of the regular letter size printers.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends. I know people who used to have a print making business and used 100 pro 100 printers and refilled with Precisioncolors. After about 50 refills they would reflush and rejuvenate their carts. Certain carts like cyan which internally in the printhead has the longest pathway would need to be rejuvenated about every 25 refills. These people mastered this process and had people whose only job was the work on the carts.

    Hi! I use PG830 CL831 inks for my canon printer. After refill, it prints every other line. I was wondering if you would have any idea if my problem is the cartridge or the printhead? I was deciding on buying new cartridges but I saw this video. I have been refilling it on my own so I guess there may be chances that ive burned out the printhead? i did all the maintenance cleaning found on the printer settings and the print tests were really bad.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no way that I can tell you specifically what is going on but it's a good possibility that the printhead indeed is damaged and that can occur very easily on Canon printers as they are very delicate especially when you begin to refill. The process has to be done perfectly in order for you to be able to print as if those cartridges were just out of the box.

    If only I've seen this earlier! I have let too much air into my inks and now my printer doesn't work at all. I might have burnt out my printer head. Did you try to print actual photos with it??? If you did for an extended number of prints then you probably damaged it. FIrst of all Alignment will not be performed successfully if your nozzle check is not perfect to begin with. What do you mean you got too much air in your carts? If you do get a print head make sure that it is indeed an unopened new one. Then you can not use the carts you are currently using or you will experience the same problem again.

      I have a canon pro 100 for 2 years, and my tanks had a lot of white in it, more than shown in the video above. While I had replaced PM, PC and Y before, they're the more abused ones. I had been really lax on refilling them on time and has refilled them when the tank had been empty lots and lots of times without replacing a new ink cartridges. Now the orange and power lights blink alternatively and I can't print anything. The only solution was to contact services and they told me I'd have to replace my printer. Hi Jose,
    I have a Mac and use red river paper. I asked a couple days ago saying my prints were coming out with face tones really red and a lot of purple. At first I thought I had refilled the wrong ink in magenta and photo magenta. I did a test print ,deep cleaning and the papers look good. I then bought new carts from PC refilled them and I get the same thing except if I use plain paper then all colors are fine. If I use photo paper like Ultrapro Satin it has those purple hues. So I guess there is something wrong with my paper profiles. What should I do and how do I go about correcting this problem? should I uninstall everything and start over? Very helpful video! You mention using only OEM cartridges, but I haven't found any refillable Canon-branded cartridges for my MG5220 (which uses # 225 and 226 carts). Does Canon not make any refillable carts for those? Assuming not, is there a brand you would recommend?
    I've been bringing my OEM Canon cartridges to Costco for refill, but the last round isn't really working. I'm wondering whether it got too dried out inside and it's time to fully replace, in which case the transparent casing seems like a far better way to see what's going on. Been thinking about the InkOwl option, if you have any comment about the quality of those.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canon does not and has never made refillable carts. You refill your original ones after modifying them them. I don't know what those 225 - 226 carts look like. Are they opaque? I have no clue what may be happening as like I said I do not know how they are constructed. By the way I do not trust 3rd party refillable carts for any Canon printer. If you find them use them at your own risk.

    • @kenahoo
      @kenahoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I think I misunderstood - so the cartridge you're showing in the video is a transparent cart that Canon made (I didn't know they made any transparent ones) that you modified to have a rubber plug on top (didn't realize those were available, but that makes sense)?
      My Canon cartridges are indeed opaque black. I can't really tell what's going on with them internally, even whether there's sufficient ink in them. I think I'll take my chances with a 3rd party cart instead of trying to make these ones work, since I can't tell what condition the sponges are in or the state of the ink or anything.

    • @h2hewer132
      @h2hewer132 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've probably bought another printer by now, but your problem will doubtless recur if you don't use your printer frequently enough. The print head is probably clogged with dried up-ink to the point that the machine's cleaning cycle won't clear its ports. You have to take the whole print-head out of the machine and use various washing/soaking techniques that you can find videos for. Getting the head out of the 7720 is a bit fiddly, and the cleaning is tedious. Jose's cartridges have plugs on them because he modified them by first drilling a hole, filling the cartridge with ink from a syringe, then plugging the hole up with the little rubber plug. There are kits for this. Doesn't always work very well. I sympathize because I am currently trying to rehabilitate my own 7720, but it may be a lost cause. Good luck.

If I print on genuine canon paper and then laminate the print in a standard home laminating pouch, how long would you expect it to last before there was any noticeable fade, like if you had to ballpark a guess. A month, six months, a year, more?

      @keaton718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheo1949 maybe I should print my own tombstone. But let’s say the laminate only protects it as much as a plastic sleeve. I’ve found prints on the pro100 to be really high quality for graphics, noticeably better looking than standard material from print shops. And you can put photos in them not just graphics. So I’ve been making one offs, trimming them with my auto blade, and laminating them so they can be handled and last for years. But will the precision colours ink last for years. The cost of the genuine ink is relatively small compared to the project but it’d be handy to use the PC ink if I knew it could last a year or three years at least. Or if it lasted six months, clients need one-off marketing material for short periods too.

    Hello everyone,
    I am having a different problem. My printer shows ink levels but they are incorrect. It will show half full and the ink will be completely out. I will replace it and run a cleaning because the pictures will not print with proper color and the regular cleaning and deep cleaning test page will print as if everything is fine. But when i go to print again the colors still are not printing properly, it is either fading, or has partial lines of the color it should be.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

      What printer??? You didn't say. If it's not a photo printer I probably can't help. Are you using real original carts or compatible non originals. They are horrible and often will come with much less ink so the ink levels reported never match your actual ink levels in the cart. You will experience exactly what you are describing.

    I have a Canon IP2770 with a 6 months color cartridge. It was printed normal before, but suddenly it stopped printing yellow color. I tried to refill it but still not printing yellow. I searched on google I found some way: Wash the bottom of the cartridge with a little bit of alcohol, it didn't work. Use a little warm water on the bottom of cartridge, still didn't work. Finally I decided to buy a new color cartridge, but still not printing yellow. Is my printer broken, or did I do something wrong?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to check your chips. They contain a small red led that lights up when you've made perfect contact with the corresponding printhead chip contacts. Make sure that you are making 100% contact. Also clean the chip contacts with common rubbing alcohol to remove anything that may have been deposited on them. If you still cannot establish the red steady light you might have to install new carts. Are these original or compatible carts? Hopefully originals.

    I bought brandnew ink cartridge for my cannon mg3050 it been happening more often than normal it will print green or redy colour why do this happen with brand new ink cartridges also have had low on black ink I'm paying 25 a time this has happen 3 times this month why does not print the right colours I've Google but I can't found my answers getting so fed up buying inks for nothing

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you doing nozzle checks? If any color is not printing 100% it will cause an opposite shift in color balance. Always do that after any cart change and run a cleaning cycle to insure ink is actually flowing. You are using original inks?

      Well that usually means that the cartridge is empty. The chip when it reaches empty will report a red X so install a new ink cartridge.

      Suck the air out of the carts from the exit port. Insert a plain tipped syringe and pull back until you get ink. Re fill it and install it.

      I only use EPSON and CANON Photo printers. Your print head is clogged due to lack of use. Do a cleaning cycle and check again.

    Jose I have a brand new Canon Pixma TS6020 I have a cake business so I bought this printer to use with edible ink. I have tried to set up the printer, it recognizes the cartridges (compatible) because they are edible ink and it prints up the print head alignment images but when I try to print in color it came up grey like black and white but the image was color. Then I tried again and now it print nothing. What could this be? Both the printer and cartridges are brand new

    • @cheo1949

      So even on regular paper you do not get CMYK printing? I do not know that model at all so I can not begin to guess what it would be. What driver settings are you choosing. Hope fully "Photo Printing" if it is like other CANON Drivers you have a choice for B&W only as well.

      You carts were not delivering ink. Be very careful as printing with carts that are not delivering ink will very efficiently permanently burn out your print head,

    • @cheo1949

      I can not tell you why.either as they are compatible carts and those carts are to tell you the truth pretty much 100% total garbage. The only successful way to safely use a CANON printer with any other inks but OEM is to modify the carts ( If it is even possible ) so you can manually refill them with your choice of quality third party inks whether edible or toxic photo type!
      An EPSON Printer that can be used with third party inks would have been a much better choice. Better Compatible carts as well as refillable cart choices. Not so with CANON. Why did you choose that particular canon printer?
