You have got to be kidding. Seriously. This works. Just like most of the others on here, I was literally about to take my printer to the recycling center and invest in a new one. In my case, the printer kept printing photos in a green hue. I was using canon ink cartridges, did a deep cleaning, and all that other utility work and kept getting the same result. I then tried this little trick and after about 5 minutes of rotating the print head as demonstrated in the video, the printer has come back to life. I love this printer and didn't want to let it go. Now I can keep it and continue using it. Thank you so much.

I have to say what a great video this turned out to be. I had all but given up on trying to clean my Canon 8750, as it simply would clean the print heads. I was even looking at a new printer. Then by pure accident, I came across this video. I followed the instructions to the letter, and i now have my Canon 8750 working and printing beautifully. Thank you so much.

Wish I'd known about this 10 years ago! I have owned several fine Canon printers with defective or terminally clogged or burned out printheads. I've tried often to find a printer repair facility to repair/clean/replace the printheads, but there don't seem to be such animals in the world today. Evntually, I threw out the printers and bought new ones. Today, I have a wonderful Canon printer with a burned out printhead, and I thought I would browse TH-cam before throwing it away. Wow! Educational! I now know to buy a replacement printhead and fix the problem very easily! Thank you so very much for making this video! My printer is saved from the landfill!

THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!!! Just did this on my Canon MG5320. I was skeptical about getting that green electronic portion wet, but at this point we were thinking we needed to just buy a new printer so we had nothing to lose. I did as you said to do, and the whole cartridge got wet in the process. I wiped it off, shook it a few times, wiped it off again, and reinserted. Then ran a "print nozzle check pattern". It looked good so I printed a couple of other pages. One with a photo and one with just black print. And its fixed!! No more lines on my prints that the "head cleaning" process couldnt fix. You saved us some money! Yay!

YES!!!!! This worked! I just ran hot water from the tap over these 2 areas. About 5 minutes each area. Keep moving the print head side to side a few inches to get the hot water on different print color openings and to agitate and loosen the clogged ink. I accidentally got some water on the electronic green and gold contacts, so I just wiped the water off with a paper towel and kept going with no damage. Those contacts are gold and resist moisture anyway. THANK YOU! Nothing else worked and I thought I might have to throw the printer away. This is the simplest method I have seen.

I own a Pixma 860 and same type of printhead. Had this printer for almost 10 years and never knew about this. That bottom of the printhead was filthy, ink in the form of chunks! That explains a lot! My printer is smiling again!Thank you for this tutorial Sir! You were a big help! Kudos!

What the EEEF!!?? I was so scared to try this! Water? Seriously?? But it absolutely WORKED!!! I ran it under water and all sorts of colors ran through. I never in a million years would have thought to take a part out of a printer and run it under water, especially a part that had electronic contacts! But dang it, it worked! Miracle worker - Mike Stone. Thank you.

Unbelievable! My print head stopped working over a year ago. I tried everything in the book and nothing worked. So I even resorted to soaking it for a few hours in soapy hot water and let it dry out for a week in the airing cupboard. Still didn't work. Then I found his video, did exactly what he's said and low and behold - it's working again! I was was even thinking of blowing £70 on a new print head too. So thank you very much for this video. You've got my printer working again. Cheers mate.

YES!!! Thank you! your video is still a life saver after 10 years of it being posted! My Canon IX6800 is a daily all day work horse. This unclogged the print head easily. After cleaning the print head under water and putting it back...1st print was clear no hassle. I was worried about how many times to clean to get it going again but that was not the case. As soon as I put the head back it printed beautifully.

A million thanks, Mike! I got the U052 printhead error code and thought my printer dead. The first TH-cam video I watched from Tom's Computer Tips said if any water got on the contacts, the printhead would be ruined. But I did it your way for my MX700 printer using super hard tap water, then a final rinse with distilled. Worked like a charm, and done in 5 minutes!

I have an iX6800 and I could not get the print head out by watching several other video examples, but after watching this one, I was able to pull out the print head. Attempting it using the other videos, I even broke that little arm on one side, so I now have to maneuver that side up. I am a teacher and I only have cold water in my classroom, so that is what I used. I was also worried whether it was dry enough. I shook it several times and the padded it with a tissue. Popped it back in and it printed beautifully. Thank You!

I just about gave up on my entire small home printing business. I've tried multiple print head cleaning solutions and have thrown away more print heads than I can count. I just tried this as a last effort, and it worked. I was to afraid to get the back part or the printhead wet that I never wanted to try just running my it under water. Thought that was a big no-no...but it worked and I couldn't be happier! Thanks so much for this video.

Wow, I'm amazed this worked. My Canon MG7120 was not printing blue or red at all, and black was light. After figuring out the no-tool trick to getting the head lose (pull cartridge forward) it popped right out. Felt soooo wrong to put entire thing under running water, but it worked. Needed about 10 minutes to get the red and blue cleaned out. Now printer works fine. Well done, Mr. Stone!

Mp800 wouldn't print at all...but now works 100 % thanks to this advice. I immersed the print head into warm/hot water and swished it back and forth till completely clean. I'm pedantic, I changed the water about 20 times, and then let it sit immersed overnight. After removing it and shaking most of the water off, I sat it near a ducted heater vent to dry it completely. Finally I put it back in the printer...and it worked, but it took about 6 prints of the same the word document till I was completely satisfied. Why? Because although the small text was printing fine, the giant font wasn't getting complete coverage with ink. But with every print, it improved. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO

    • @hobbyprint4976

Maybe I should have advised that after the wash, perform a deep head clean to get the inks flowing through the head and after a couple of prints it should clear. If not repeat the process.

I purchased a used Canon ip100 on eBay... it arrived claiming that the black tank was empty, but color tank was full (though wouldn't print simulated black with color either). I ordered extra ink... when it arrived, the new ink wouldn't print either, so I looked around & eventually found this video. The first time I ran water through it, colored ink ran for several times turning it over, until all was clear, though I didn't use the hottest of water. Testing it in the printer indicated that it was now working with black, but only printing red & blue on color!?... so I ran it under the tap again, leaving it on a dish for minutes this time, with hotter water + directly focused on the yellow inlet. Voila, now all colors seem to be working! Glad I didn't have to do such an extended cleaning with distilled water as ~recommended by other sources!!!

Thank you so much for posting the video. While I had already tried cleaning the print head with alcohol, my q-tip method wasn't aggressive enough apparently. I wouldn't have dreamed of running the head under water given that's usually not a good idea with electronics. I tried your suggestion and finally the black print head started printing again. Kept an otherwise fine printer out of the landfill and we avoided having to buy a new one. Thanks again!

I tried other methods and this, by far is the best. Took a few extra tries to get the "Blue" cleaned out but it works. I cleaned as much as I could, then I put warm water in a cup and let it soak for a few mins and followed the rest of the directions and the printer is working perfectly. I shook the print head over the sink until the water was clear, shook the extra water out then dried with a paper towel, No need for cleaning solutions. This works great.

Thank you for this information. It was very helpful. My print head was still clogged after several cycles of rinsing, and several more cycles of soaking in warm water with a few drops of Dawn dishwashing detergent and rinsing. The PGBK and cyan still refused to print. Feeling that I had nothing to lose, I tried one last soak, rinse, and dry, then I sprayed some electronics cleaner (trichlorotriflouroethane) directly on the print head and on the back side where the cartridges mate. The spray cleaner cut right through the clog - I could see color running from the print heads when I sprayed. This did the trick, and the head is now functioning correctly.

I have a Canon MP700 printer that I have owned seems like well over a decade. Had the problem discussed ("Wrong Cartridge" - would not print) so I tried your solution at least 2 or 3 times. Result - FAIL.
Just as I was about to give up and run down to the Good Guys to buy a new printer I had one more try.
This time I noticed some minute gunk along the 2 edge grooves each side of the of the square with the four grooves in the middle of the Print Head that the washing out had failed to remove.
I carefully removed this gunk with the sharp point of a wooden sate stick and washed it out again. Result - SUCCESS.
Sorry Good Guys, don't know how much longer the old MP700 will keep going but many thanks you to all those that share solutions to problems on the internet.

Hey thanks. Was about to buy a new printer when I saw your video. Worked perfectly and I will say, it took awhile to wash clean.

thanks, I got the B200 message on my Pixma Pro 200 MkII, did all just as you said and it works. Saved me in many ways. thanks.
PS- oddly enough, I'm hosting a seminar at my karate studio next month for the legendary, undefeated karate fighter, Mike Stone. Clearly a name to be reckoned with.

"B200 error" - I have read at least 9 reviews of Mr Stones readers n decided what do I have to lose!?!? Canon Tech Support just told me a few hours ago that best option would be to buy a new unit. I went to best buy but wasn't convinced there was no other option so I didn't make the purchase, thanks to Google I found your advice!! I went upstairs a few minutes ago n opened the cartridge compartment, switched it on 'after the fact' so the cartridges could move into place for me to get to the print head..... After allot more than normal movement of the gears n ink cassette, blue light came back on and I'm back in business... Printing again! Thanks for the encouragement, I would have wasted $129.99 but I prefer holding on to it:-)

This actually worked for me, the top black band of the test pattern would not print at all, 10 minutes of rinsing under hot water and my printer works flawlessly again!
