    This is a great restoration video. Excellent job! This is back in the day when they made stuff that was supposed to last forever. Unlike today where they make things to just last a year or two so that you can go and rebuy it every couple years. You can definitely see the CRAFTSMANSHIP in this.

    I can remember a time before there were zip ties. Technicians had to secure or bundle wires together or in place with twine... Seeing you cut the strings brought back those memories. We had to learn special knots & how to bundle long runs of wires. It was somewhat like doing macrame. Times have certainly changed.

    • @Austeration
      @Austeration  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching, glad this brought some memories for you. When I looked at it I thought I'm not even going to attempt the macrame. I'm sure you could still do it in your sleep.

      @Austeration Yeah, but who wants to do that when you have zip ties available? Unless you do it for a museum & need to stay accurate to the time period, you might as well use all the modern parts & techniques that are available to us now.

      @@Austeration It's used every summer. I have an aversion to sleeping in Air conditioning, my fans are used! I also have several old kitchen implements, mixers, ice crushers, blenders. @shainazion4073 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Austeration I have one fan with a big chip out of the blade, I want to repair it, it is a type of plastic, not metal. I thought about patching it with an epoxy type resin, I'm not sure it will hold with the movement and vibration. The only other options are having a piece made by 3D printing or finding an old fan blade of a similar size. Any thoughts?

    • @Austeration
      @Austeration  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shainazion4073 thanks very much for the sub Shaina. Sounds like your dad would put his hand to anything that needed repairing.
      What colour is the blade ? A good product to use is JB weld but this is black so it may not match. I think if you 3D print the missing piece you may still have issues attaching it to the blade. Balancing the blade after may be an issue if the weight is different. Finding a replacement might be your best option. But if you can't find anything doing a repair will have to do. Try your best and don't be afraid to fail. Most people don't even try because they are afraid of messing things up. If you do fail don't look at it as a fail look at it as successfully finding out your first idea didn't work and try something else.

      I don't see how the oil could travel up the felt and into the bush. I didn't find any type of oil residue under the felt either. I might have to look into this theory some more unless you have found something already.

    Great video! But 1 thing of note. It seems that your blast media is a little weak. Either you was using very fine media and need to switch to a more course one or air pressure just is not enough. From what I could tell it's more of the media type.
    Also, under the 2 brass fittings on the rotating assembly are the 2 cloth tube things. These should be soaked in oil to provide a continuous lube.
    Sorry, not nit picking, but just thought you may want to know. Other than these things the video and restoration was great!

    • @Austeration
      @Austeration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Sounds like you have some experience with old fans do you?
      I assumed the felt tubes are there to soak up any oil that may come from the bronze bushes. I didn't see how oil was going to climb up the felt and get inside the bush as the bush it's self is not spinning
      Not saying your wrong, that's just the way a saw it. I think I need to replace the media in my blaster, the unit itself has never really been fantastic. Please check out some of my other projects if you have time.
      Cheers 👍

    • @3210gatorbite
      @3210gatorbite ปีที่แล้ว

      I dabble a little into restoration of all things. As for the brass peices they kook like oilite fittings. They are a porous type of brass that holds oil inside itself. Though these ones are quite old and seem to have glossed over. The contact point with the cloth tube acts like a wicker effect and literally pulls the oil up into the brass. Think like an oil lamp and its wick.
      As to your other videos, this one is the first one I've seen from your channel, but when I have time I will look at the others.
