The correct name for this type of fan is an Erickson Cycle or Stirling Hot Air Engine. A flame heats the displacement piston that transfers the hot expanded air into the power piston, thus repeating in a closed engine. I have a fan of this same design and it is a reproduction of a 19th century KYCO fan style made in England. I ordered mine new from Pakistan in the 1980s and its also blue in colour. It cost $600 Australian. I doubt they cost much more now. This fan looks as though it has been in a flood. Probably not as old as you think but the design is old. They pre-date steam engine technology and were never seen as a real power source but were useful for areas with no electricity. NASA developed a similar engine that used compressed hydrogen internally instead of air. That engine was solar powered and developed several thousand horse power. It was mounted at the focal point of a sun tracking solar dish and ran an electricity generator. Nasa even had one running a car. All experimental though. Lots of info available online. A ship was even built running the same type of engine and it wasn't successful. It was powered by coal. The engines were very large and required a lot of coal. In the end there was no room left for any cargo so the engines were replaced with steam engines that produced much more power. Great to see one being cleaned up and saved from the scrap heap. Great effort. A unique part of the pre steam era of the industrial revolution. www.reddit.com/r/WeirdWheels/comments/p22t61/1979_doe_nasa_amc_spirit_dl_with_a_stirling_engine/?rdt=65469 www.stirlingengine.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=553
I have never seen a fan like that before, and it runs on kerosene oil. Anyway, you did a beautiful job of restoring that kerosene oil fan. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work I must say.
It`s one of the few use cases of a sterling engine I have seen that is not a emergency generator that can run on anything that burns or super specialised use cases like powering a small military submarine. Pretty smart to use that for this device.
Hello, I believe that calling this work "restoration" is a bit of a stretch. I think more could be done. A warning should be given to anyone who publishes these types of videos, not everything counts to gain "views". I hope that's not the case.
It looks like the fan was caked in mud and then baked at a low temperature. It may have been given to him like that. Overall, I would give this video a 2 out of five. Sorry for the crappy comment. 😎
Wow. Caked in mud, blades still straight, bearings still packed with grease and no rust in the piston. What are the odds? Zero!
😇
I thought exactly the same. The initial condition is staged. Where did he find it? Under a tree? Please. And not even a tiny hole because of the rust?
You are exactly right... Look at their last 5 video's - all the same mud with little to no rust pitting....
Also I’m pretty sure that there wasn’t Phillips head screws 100 years ago
whats wrong with it?

No offense but there is more mud than rust, a little water would have cleaned it up rather well
😇
Just don't put the mud on in the first place. You can even see the smear marks of myd on the blades.
All he had to do was slather it in mud then leave it to dry for a few days; VIOLA- instant antiquing
The piece is well preserved, but it was subjected to mud to make it appear deteriorated, it must certainly have been purposely stuck in the mud of the lagoon.
Fakethat old with mud wood have much more pitting
It's a Sterling engine!
That is soooo cool.
I like that shade of green too.
Sterling engine-powered appliances were much more common before electric motors became widespread.
Excelente trabajo

I'm here not to see the "restoration", but to see how the table fan works...!🇧🇷
That rust doesn't look like the rust I know. More like red mud dried to red dirt.
THANKIOUPR❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

It's a beautiful restoration, but you go much too slow doing it.
😇
Just increase the playback speed if it troubles you.
The dirt was applied to the fan with a brush )))

So this old fan works similar to a stirling engine?
Приобретите себе пескоструйку, и мир заиграет совсем другими красками😁

ему и так весело
looks like it was laying buried in a caleche bed
It was buried in mud for a couple days then bake in the oven for half an hour before torn apart for restoration
No sir
🥰
Isn't it easier to wash the dirt with water? Is it better to scrape?
100 лет назад таких технологий уже не было,электричество было во всю....🤷😁
Its exist more than 100 years ago

Why put mud on the piece?
If it weren't for that fact, it would be an excellent video.
Had that spent a few years on, say, a creek bed?
I don’t think this is fake. The fan may have been made to look worst than it actually was but it was still a beautiful restoration.
Thanks for your appreciation 😇
No access to a sand blaster?
It looks like the fan was caked in mud and then baked at a low temperature. It may have been given to him like that. Overall, I would give this video a 2 out of five. Sorry for the crappy comment. 😎

Like it when he said let’s remove the rust. Looks like clay to me. This one looks so obvious
fake 🤣😂😅alah

Did you cover this in sand and then bake it dry?
Hmmmmm.........Lots of dried dirt and not enough rust or rust pitting.
