Five main factors:
1. Unemployment
2 Corrupt cops
3 Discouraged good cops
4 Gangs
5 Substance abuse (tik and alcohol being the worst)
At the very least we should look for new approaches to substance abuse, looking at the example set by Portugal who, by decriminalizing all drugs, have managed to undercut the profit motive enjoyed by the gangs.
As to unemployment, it's up to Uncle Cyril to deliver on his promises by cutting down drastically on our bloated public service and working together with the private sector to create wealth at all levels of society
You forgot another main one, broken (fatherless) families...
@@charlesdarwin6521 You're spot on - the family unit is terribly threatened. But I think that's a side effect of the other factors.
The problem lies not with JP Smith or the police. It lies with the communities.
And ends with the law system in the federal government. Weak law, lot of crime. Spineless leaders who are controlled by criminals. Welcome to the real saf-afrika 😂
We get out of this situation by voting a party that is competent to govern, cutting red tape, ripping up policies that smack of racism, ensure ecomonic growth for all with job creation and holding people accountable in government at all levels in doing their job and providing a service to the people of SA who pay for their salary.
Very sad, life in these hard areas is cheap, disposable, youngsters aspire to the gangster life style, it cant be stopped ,its a cult thing, runs deep into the communities, very sad
JP Smiith has it covered. He spends his entire budget as MEC of Safety and Security on fancy tech to hunt down expired car disks and parking fines... That'll make us safe and secure... #FIREJPSMITH
...that's just plain, fresh bullshit !!😮
Another disgruntled NCC supporter who can no longer use Malusi Booi's crime to make certain claims against the DA.
😂😂😂HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH SOUTH AFRICS 31PEOPLE KILLED IN CAPE TOWN ALONE HELP YOUR OWN PEOPLE LEAVE GAZA TO ISRAEL
Discipline and values starts in the home and community!
Where are all the”fathers” the “ men” in South Africa? The ones that should be an example to the next generation?
People think I'm crazy when they hear I moved out of Cape Town. The violence and crime is the number one reason Godwilling I won't move back to Cape Town
The culture of gangsterism is the issue. Add tik and other substances and it's a continuous cycle that will ravage on for the forseeable future.
Social Development should be overhauled its a pathetic service at all levels.
Cannot be writing a thesis and be thinking like this. He is not asking the right questions.
It’s worst than a war zone…..
because it's happening mostly in the cape flats and not in affluent areas, so it's not a priority for people in government
Crime in government is not even a priority.
explains to me how it is possible that Cape town the best run city in the country
Scratch off the fancy veneer and CT is as bad as the worst. Our MEC JP Smith has ZERO interest in any crime other than traffic fines... If you are MEC of Safety and Security and your city is dangerous, you are not doing your job. #FireJPSmith
Blame the community. When the police arrive in these areas, they are being shot at or stones are being thrown at their vehicles. The community do not want to talk out of fear. Then there is the police who is in cahoots with the gangsters. It's a whole cycle. @@petruszaayman6707
It must be the best run if the population increases 19 % per annum and most of it is due to the influx from other provinces.
I wouldn't live in Cape Town if you paid me all the money in China. No thank you.
I don't understand why good people do nothing.
Where is the army ….
Crime pays
