A very good comparison between a high end reel and a very good budget one... for the money, the DWU comes close to the Aldie in terms of performance... a great value for the money... 1 Aldie is worth 6 DWU's...
I'm a sucker for all shimano bfs reel from aldebaran, calcutta conquest bfs to scorpion bfs. personally I feel DW is a wonderful reel that cast so well and i used it most of the times and caught even some big fish.
Good video mate, I was the same when I had the alphas air plenty I didn't like and I think that's because when you have these high end reels u believe everything should be spot on with them.
Aldebaran BFS is an awesome reel, haven't heard a single report of the aluminum micro gears going bad. Only issue I see is that hideous exposed brake dial. I have no idea why they designed it to look that way.
@@TheConstantAngler I am wanting to buy a new reel, just want to see if a new regular Aldebaran comes out or not. Using 7lb fluorocarbon I fear the BFS version might not have the capacity.
I completely agree with your assessment of the materials of the Aldebaran. That being said, I love love love the smoothness of the micro module gears. Do they help performance? Probably not haha but it just feels so great reeling fish in. My biggest gripe of the alde over all of the other gripes is that the paint chips and scratches so so so easily… this is why I looked for a vinyl skin to protect the finish. It’s a shame because I love the look of the reel and I really hate to wrap it but I hate seeing chips on my reel. Anyhow, cheers for the impressions and I hope to get my own video out soon!
The big difference is the tolerances with the high end bfs compared to the low priced ones my dwu feels really loose in the handle compared.. that said its a great reel for the money but not a patch on the aldebaran 22 in my opinion
@@TheConstantAngler you hit the nail on the head feeling them both side by side makes you respect the dwu so much more for the price point if your abit careless with your tackle its the perfect bfs reel im yet to see another budget bfs compete i hear the kastking kestrel elite is brilliant but its not exactly budget at near 200 pounds id rather an aldebaran for that kind of money i really doubt the kestrels any better
@@skymag2247 exactly. I actually carry my DWU around in my pocket when using my Alde should I back lash I just put it in and carry on but if all I could afford was it I would not feel encumbered.
@@TheConstantAngler you should put your hands in the new kastking kestrel, literally shimano/daiwa should really step up their game biiiig to justify those skyrocket prices, not just cool material body.
I've not used an Aldebaran, but like you I think some of the parts look cheap. It's like they've gone through the parts bin and picked a few out. The chrome thumb bar makes it look like a £50 reel.
Your right feels cheap painting is nice cast 2 grams but not so easy. Dark Wolf Ultra 135 gram nice colour too mat Black green and looks exact like the Aldebaran, but this cast much much better really smooth and great Distance even cast 1 gram. With the right Rod cast even under 1 gram The Aldebaran bfs can't do this spool is too heavy bad rejectory
Ultra 135 gram is so much better then the older version what the talk here and the nice looking Toy Aldebaran I had for 2 years sold it now, its not what the talk about at all. DW is much cheaper cast even 1gram no need to tune Amazing order second one 1 for the Adrena Bfs
It’s not a bad reel but certainly not a good as the Aldebaran. It will probably be smoother than the Dark Wolf but struggle to cast light lures as well unless converted spools and bearings are used. I don’t own a scorpion so only what I have heard.
Are you certain that alderbaran isn't a knock-off? I thought they had a black thumb bar. Apparently there are a lot of imitation ones coming out of China.
Had me worried there for a while. Just checked “the reel test” TH-cam channel and his is also silver. So I am pretty confident. I think the 16 had a black plate on the thumb bar but this doesnt

Agree. I’m sure the next version will have something different. Loving mine.

How much do you want to put on?
I would imagine it would hold 50m
I will have a look at the box to see lube capacity

True. The whole experience is better with the Shimano. I love my but I am always pleasantly surprised with the DWU.

I preffer the Black Knight 2 instead of Tsurinoya, you should put your hands on one, is simply amazing for how much it costs.
I heard some do prefer it. They are essentially the same reel with a few tweaks I think.
@@TheConstantAngler you are right, technically the same, but feels differently, at least for my hands. For 80-90 $ reel, I am moooore than satisfied.

@richarddeboer8934 in actually selling my Alde as better reels on the market for less. I can cast sub 1gr but it is so temperamental, unlike the DWU
