    I won’t switch because I got started a couple of months ago with Notion, but as u cirrectly point out, there are so many features they are lacking. Accectly this kind of compentition between similar conpanies make both grow and hopefully implement features sooner :)
    I don’t care about the calendar feature of Notion because I’m a heavy google user at work/home. I’m eager to see what is possible with the API and I’m waiting for diagrams, custom column based formulas that can calculate multiselects, OneNote importer :)

    Really great video. Thank you. I'd have been interested in a bit more on the rate-of-progress question. As a Coda-curious Notion user, I'm getting more and more struck by just how slowly Notion is moving (the API joke's gone a bit flat now), to the point it's becoming quite an irritant.

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree Richard. Notion are being slow with the update and as mentioned in numerous livestreams, there are plenty of other apps that are updating quicker. I can just hope that the next update is really useful and not something like the timeline view update.

      I do love Notion look and feel, but I did the switch to Coda last year and I just can't go back to Notion. Notion is terrible dumb in features. Just explaining my point, I build an automated and functional time tracker in Coda, which has more information and reports than my old time tracker software (Toggl, which is the best in the market for free). I build a complete exercise app for my workout and I am currently building a complete financial system. Just to make clear, everything I am creating is totally functional and have automation, formulas, calculation and buttons everywhere. While Notion allows to only manually imput some table rows, Coda allows infinity possibilities. I just think that Notion has a popularity that it doesn't deserves.

    Great summary :). Coda looks really promising and most people might use it on their computer, but I still think it's unwise to treat mobile users as an afterthought.
    Notions mobile app is far from perfect, but Codas app (at least on iOS) is a performance disgrace atm. It's the one reason I'm not even considering switching, because I'm unable to use it on all devices without getting annoyed 😅... Thanks Danny, great vid as usual! Now do X vs AirTable ;-)
    I love using Notion for team dashboards and wikis, but have been flirting with Coda due to the difference in pricing plan structures. With large distributed teams where a lot of team members just have to occasionally check particular pages and check-off boxes or add some small pieces of info, Codas pricing structure with just Docmakers paying is appealing.
    But the flexibility with Notions page structure also seems a lot more flexible for some use cases. (And then Airtable... when I’d like to be able to do some advanced data processing in a workflow.)
    Indeed crazy that Notion doesn't have a weekly view. And bonkers that Coda’s is just with a Sunday start.

    Weekly view might be handy, but honestly I don't use the calendar in that way so it's not that big a deal. Generating reports and documents with my data are the frustration points for me. I maintain our company's CRM in Notion, but to generate the meeting report for the week, I have to manually re-enter the information into a separate table to prevent notion from either printing EVERYTHING because you can't hide data in an export to PDF, or printing nothing because you can't export rollups to a PDF.

    The weekly view for me is a 1st world problem. It'd be nice but ehh. I tried clickup. Don't need 80% of it. It's overkill for me as a single user for the most part. I may take a look at coda. I like a couple of the features you showed. I've been using notion daily for almost a yr or so. When August first mentioned their $x billion funding, I thought "oh wow they're going to make this thing sparkle." But someone commented on one of your other videos that they haven't really developed much with that funding and I agree. There's lots of platforms out there now and if they don't at the bare minimum have an open API, etc then more new users will go to clickup or coda or roam or wherever. There's little tweaks here and there I'd love to be able to do in Notion. Love the platform BUT I don't wanna be blind to other platforms.

    I just have a strong curiosity level for both Coda and Notion. However, I can't seriously deal with either of them until they have separate time and date fields which seems to be on the "never" list. If I was to pick one, and they both seem to be copying each other, and updating rapidly, it seems that Notion has the better dudes teaching their systems, and Coda is talking "teams" so much it hurts my brain. They are both vastly inferior to Filemaker Pro but nobody seems to have the depth to know what databases are even for, besides "to do" lists. @@DannyHatcherTech This may be true. Anyhow, Coda demonstrated in the past to improve the UI. In my opinion It is better to choose the power you need - in my use case a clear decision for Coda - over small things regarding the UI. This will improve in the near future as Coda has already rolled out some Improvements.

    Why doesn't Notion have a weekly view????? It is pretty clear that Notion does NOT listen to their customers. As soon as Coda adds columns and a web clipper it is BYE BYE Notion.

      I have no idea??? I think Notion have too many customers asking for different things but agreed. I don't like the user experience of coda but a very powerful app!

      Coda does not listen to their customers either. For non-US users it is crap.
