As a long term Notion user I found myself in the process of defining a team pipeline for what's coming this year for us and after spending days experimenting with all kinds of available tools I think I found the right tool for the job in ClickUp.
Why I did not push Notion for my team:
    - we are more focused on tasks and having a good overview on how the different projects are going. I think Notion struggles to give you a meaningful overview if you are working with a team and on multiple things at the same time.
    - I am not forced to build formulas for everything amd come up with a full system by myself.
    - for other team members that are not used to Notion or similar software, ClickUp is more structured and probably less confusing, even if the UI is definitely a lot busier (too much in certain areas).

      Completely agreed!
Unless team members are happy to learn the tool Notion can be overwhelming for many.

RE: note taking - I understand what you mean and I agree with the point, however when you use the google embed/link option within clickup tasks it works a lot better. I am currently working in both notion & clickup and both have their unique things to like. Clickup with breaking down projects into tasks and defer these to various people is the big win for clickup for me.... But will keep on following the updates for notion with great interest as I do like both!

Ah ok. Thanks for mentioning. Breaking down projects in ClickUp seems to be the same as Notion, just small differences Between the 2.

  • @HippieP629

A few thoughts: I tried clickup out months ago and got lost. It has so many features that I felt like I was in a maze. I didn't try it out for long, though. Like anything, there's a learning curve. I see it as iOS vs Android. I like my android bc I can customize it all day as opposed to Apple doing the thinking for the user.
I can see some PMs using this but I doubt most will take the time to learn it unless there's a sharp dedicated person to manage it.
The UI is sterile. So much empty white space like a Drs office.
I use Toggl for time tracking. Love it and I just have it floating on my 2nd or 3rd display so it's visible. Having it buried somewhere that isn't visible if one is switching tasks is problematic.
The way you described setting up templates is dizzying. That would drive me nuts. No thanks.
The visible dependency(ies) feature in clickup is really interesting. I wish Notion, or the ability to do so, had the ability to show dependencies visually on a graph w/ strings where any movement of linked parent and children tasks, projects, etc are shown in real time of some sort.
Many thanks for the video DH.

  • @vitalis
    @vitalis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm a ClickUp user who has done the opposite and the turning point was setting it up as my ClickUp workflow + hacking it to display custom fonts & making pages open in full by default using a github script.
I use both apps just for myself but for collaboration and especially project management I would probably choose ClickUp. For big teams ClickUp has a more controlled environment and a lot of 3rd party integrations.
Notion's big advantages are the use of custom fields which are not available on ClickUp free, as a rich knowledge base and Speed. It is really frustrating using ClickUp day in and out and wait for the pages to refresh.
Oh, and the recent Timeline view addition to Notion is awesome to plan out projects and have an bird's eye view of the whole year.

I think Clickup is going to have a hard time penetrating this space with this implementation. Their paid model is far too aggressive for what it is. Too rigid a structure with too many restrictions. Notion started with more restricted free features and learned quickly and backpedaled on that model. The API while nice, is not enough to sell it for me. They might grab people new to market, but I find it hard to believe any established Notion users are going through the hassle of building a new workspace for tha handful of superior features they have - for now. Very good overview though. For those people wondering if the switch is worth it, this is certainly valuable feedback.

I evolved from Gitkraken Boards and Freedcamp to ClickUp just when they changed to that current version 2.0. Every week the add new features and in one year time the have probably the double of features. I find amazing this constant evolution. I have to admit that their "personal dashboard" view is not clear enough on my taste, but they have today such range of different views (list, board, calendar, timeline, web, map, gantt, workload, mind map) plus data dashboards,... Now I'm sure I'm not capable of using everything that is offering. Sadly the best scrumb sprint controls are on a high price plan.
