Fun fact: homosexuality wasn't a major concern in ancient times, they were more concerned on who's role it was in the relationship
Depends on the cultures, but more or less correct! It's funny as shit reading about greek senators shitting on someones leadership qualities because he had a twink ravage his ass, as opposed to the much more leader-like attitude of having several boy toys around to screw from behind.
On the other hand, for women it wasn't even a question, 'skinship' was just considered perfectly normal in so many different cultures...
Damn abrahamic religions, really ruining things back in the day.
yep! i’m a history nerd and they didn’t care about if you were gay, they just cared if you were a bottom lol
Oh yeah I read about this roman emperor who was rumored not only to be gay, but *gasps in disbelief* a bottom
the ancient times when being the submissive one in a relationship was leagues more scandalous than preferring the stick or the hole
Absolutely. The stigma surrounding same-sex relationships and even gender-nonconforming people is a relatively recent thing.
I can’t remember where, but I read somewhere that archeologists discovered a trans person that was several thousand years old.

My cousin had one of those "Don't want to get married" cake toppers but put a spin on it that I loved. My cousin is a navy vet and one of the strongest women I know. So she got one of those cake toppers where the wife was dragging her husband and made a few changes to it. She put camo face paint on the bride's face and put a little shotgun under her arm and made the wedding cake look like she was dragging her husband through a battle field and to safety. She said it was to represent her willingness to go through hell with her husband and help them get out of every bad situation safe and sound. I thought it was sweet.
Edit: It's been almost 5 years since they'd been married. They're still together and have two little girls. The oldest is 4 and wants to be a warrior like mommy when she grows up and the youngest is 2 and wants to be a "cake eater" when she grows up lol
We need to clone that woman a million times.

So fun fact, my 93 year old great grandmother, who has been Christian her entire life, actually has no problem with gay or trans people. She thinks that it must tough (for trans folks) to be in a body they aren’t comfortable in. This woman was born in 1929 and is more progressive than any of her kids. She is just the most tough and resilient woman who I am pretty sure brought cookies to a gay rights organization during last year’s pride month. Pretty cool great grandma not gonna lie.
I wish I could give that grandma a manly handshake. You go grandma.
I wanna give a big hug she seems so amazing
Tell her she's awesome!!! Give her a hug and tell her some random minor on the internet says hi! ❤

Your grandma sounds like a lovely person. Good day
I love how just kissing somehow changes from being acceptable for kids to see to being too inappropriate for them to see when it's a gay couple
And it seems like that’s because they simultaneously believe there’s no reason, in a sexual sense, why two people of the same sex would be together, but also that gay relationships can only ever be sexual
In conclusion: I don’t think they know what love is
@@damienearl8302 I think you hit the nail on the head there
All right, let me get this straigth (pun not intended, maybe the next comment), kissing is fine until it turns into a kissing battle on the tram (just an example) which is quite disgusting to any outsiders. There used to be some letters for it, PDA. I was guilty of it once until I realized I was practically trying to eat my spouse's face right there and then. Of course I didn't realize it right then because I was young and inexperienced but exactly the next day I saw a couple doing the exact same thing and I was like ew. That was the moment I realized that what I thought was just a sign of pure love was a disgusting sight for literally anyone else to see. So yeah, one kiss is fine but overdoing it brings everyone else's piss to a boil.
@uppskirt I mean yeah overdoing it would make me uncomfortable too. But for some people if it's a gay couple it doesn't matter how innocent it is they still get very upset
@@williamsmith6213 Don't worry, I get upset when anyone does it. But I guess it's more a me problem than the fact that people are happy together.
I used to work as a substitute teacher in high school and had to have an heart to heart with 17 year old guy whose parents were practically interrogating him over whether or not he was gay because he had shown no interest towards women...he himself was concerned if there was something wrong in him because he felt no sexual interest towards ANYONE. I know asexual is quite a marginal group but going straight from "OMG OUR 17 SON DOESN'T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND" to "Yup, he's gay!" is quite a leap
Parents canbe dicks.
Im asexual and I relate to that guy so much
I've honestly felt that way, too.
Tbf I’m bi and thought I was ace for a while cause I repressed any sexual interest as a defense mecanism
I myself am 10 years old and have already found that I myself am Asexual and Non-Binary. I've only said this to my friends because I am scared of dissaproval from my siblings and parents. I'm happy I can say this here and hopefully not be judged.
My grandma and I once got into an argument about LGBTQ+ rights and if it was normal to be homosexual (She has had two divorces).
My grandma said “Back in my day every woman’s wish was to get a nice husband, have lots of kids, then grow old and die together”.
I paused (For effect) then replied “And how did that work out for you?”.
She just sat there, stunned to silence. I won and she never said that LGBTQ+ was unnatural again.

Man, as a Christian, the entirety of heterosexual marriages has lost so much. Like I don't know how to describe it, but it ABSOLUTELY BAFFLES me how straight married people can hate each other and turn around and say, 🥰 "It's what God would want" like, NO SUZAN, God wants you to love your spouse as an equal. Not as a master, servant, pet project, God made marriages to be EQUAL. ugh, like I said, it just baffles me.

In all seriousness, though, it also depends on if the original Old Hebrew texts can be recovered. Translators can (and do in more contemporary examples) include their own biases in their work, and we know from the "x but Google Translated" types of content that chains of translation cause mistakes even when it's not intended. A more direct translation may cut through some of the obfuscation, if possible.
However, in event of a conflict such as that, I personally interpret the importance of the ten commandments above any other quote - as I commented elsewhere on this video, "Love your neighbour", not "Love your cis, white, straight, Christian, American neighbour". Unconditional love is just that - unconditional.
Though then again, I'd imagine you'd know better than I do, being an actual Christian.

The word "phobia" doesn't limit itself to a fear. It is an avoidance with a motivation that just needs to be contextualised. (Think of hydrophobic fluids for example.)
It is perfectly useful because homophobes in their different varieties, DO fear, hate and want to avoid gay people. It's a good umbrella term for them all.
I don't know I find that if you call someone homophobic they just say "I'm not scared of gay people I just have a difference of opinion" to which I then have to waste time dragging their @$$ . I just say screw off bigot and that usually ends it.

a couple of years ago a new guy joined our discord server, he was a friend of a friend so i talked with him a couple of times before and i knew he was gay, i also knew that much like myself he was abit shy and socially akward so i told him that we generally are rather foulmouthed when we play, not in a mean way but weve known each other for years and to us its funny to talk to each other like that without any kind of restraint and he (being actually somewhat new to gaming) said that he doesnt think he would be comfortable if we talked to him like that and that was that, not a mean word was said to him, after the first couple of hours of him having to hear how we talk to each other while talking normally to him he said something like "you really werent kidding huh?" and after the gaming session when most of our friends had left he said that he felt somewhat excluded because we talked differently (normally and somewhat politely) to which i replied in a rather awfull impression of a southern US accent said that he should make up his mind wether i should or shouldnt call him a fag which made him chuckle and he replied that i am more then welcome to call him that as long as i do it in exactly that accent which i have kept for almost one and a half years, sadly its been a while, he currently doesnt have alot of time because of work but we still talk every couple of months to see how things are going
@vhaelen326 This comment is crass and hysterical and excessively wholesome and I love it. Yes, to everyone reading this comment thread, YES, this is how the world works. This is good-person behavior. This is how you have fun without being mean, and be a force for good without being a buzzkill.
I'd especially like to draw attention to the first paragraph. "If I [make a rude joke[ AND HE LAUGHS ABOUT IT, it's a joke." That 'and' is a programming 'and', it means that the statement is only true if both halves are true. If they don't find it funny, you just crossed a line, and while "I was just joking" can be a true statement, it is only an explanation, not a cure-all excuse.
But when you have close friends, they can pull these jokes on each other with no offense intended nor taken, because you know the person saying it is cool with you and what you are. Some people just enjoy friendly ribbing, and that's fine for them. The massive point-scoring part is when a new person joined the group, and wasn't comfortable with those jokes, so rather than going "oh it's just a joke, lighten up", ignoring their desires and comfort, they literally just....didn't, with that guy. I can't even express how giddy it made me to read that. And when he expressed that he'd rather join in after all, they accepted that too.
I just.....I really can't express how perfect the behavior on display here is. This is how you Real Life, folks. Take notes :D

The crazy part is it’s *possible* to ACTUALLY be homophobic, in the sense of “scared of gay”. I know from experience. I was raised with such an aversion to anything LGBTQ drilled into my head by my parents that even hearing about gay stuff gave me a panic attack. Then I got older, started thinking for myself and unlearned that bull and realized I’m LGBTQ. A lot of children that are homophobic are *actually* homo*phobic* and it’s sad :( Unlearning crap like that is so hard.
phobia basically means "irrational aversion, disproportionate to the actual threat posed by the situation" or something near that, but yeah a lot of homophobes are just genuinely scared

When Robin was talking about the old people who actually hate each other, it made me think of my great grandparents, because when my grandmother died, my grandfather was only around for a year after she died, because she, my mom told me that he said that he wanted to be with his wife
My grandparents had a rough marriage. There was a lot of kids, not much money, too much alcohol, infidelity and domestic violence. They separated for a time but then got back together. They would fight with each other All the time. My grandfather lived until he was 96, then ended up in hospital after having a bad fall. My grandmother is 10 years younger than him. He was in and out of consciousness over a few days while we had gathered all around him. My grandmother was very angry, telling him it wasn't right for him to go and leave her alone. Finally after a few days she said to him, 'All right, all right Old Man' (we're Latino so she'd always call him 'veijo', kind of a bitter-sweet term of endearment), 'You've suffered long enough, go in peace. I'll be all right. You deserve to rest." Within half an hour, he passed. The last thing he managed to do was open his eyes, look towards my grandmother, and blow her a kiss. These two had put each other through hell, managed to raise 7 kids together with no money in a third world country, ended up migrating to Australia in their senior years and went on to torment and argue for another 30 years after they got here, but they loved each other till death do they part. Love is often presented to us in big romantic gestures or sweet smiles, but my grandparents showed me that sometimes love is standing by someone who drives you crazy but that you've learned to live with because you only have each other.
My parents, a Cishet couple (despite everyone thinking my mom is MTF Trans), have been married for almost 40 years, and they still love each other very much. My dad will just be staring at my mom with stars in his eyes, or she'll just tell him she lives him with no outside prompt, or how he just made her a new garden bench because she saw one online she liked. Like, compared to my grandparents who were the "we hate each other, but refuse to separate and make our lives better" old married couple you so often hear about, they are so much healthier of a couple, its crazy.
wtf is cishet?... you mean cis and hetero couple?.. someone calling me cis in person gets a few teeth loosened in their heads.
Why would people think your mom's trans?
That was my parents too. Dad adored mom, and told her so every day. He could get her laughing like no one else. Mom is more of an 'acts of service' type of person when expressing her love, but she did everything she could for him and still does for us.

17:48 "why is 24 considered gay in Brazil?"
To clarify, here in brazil there's a game called "o jogo do bixo" (the animal game) where you essentially bet on a number that is associated with a animal.
The number 24 is the "veado" (deer), but the word "veado" is similar to the word "viado" (derogatory slang for homosexual people).

When I was 22 my mother (age 45 then) was engaged to a guy who was 23. Literally only a year older than me. I told her I was glad she found someone that made her happy, but that I was a little uncomfortable she was going to marry a guy I literally could have gone to high school with. Her response was that “I should be more supportive because she accepted me being a bisexual woman in a relationship with a trans man” and that we were “both targeted by the patriarchy “.

It's because the slur for gay men comes from the word deer, it's because of bambi.

11:50 I used to read warrior cats all the time, and there used to be 5 clans, until they discovered a 6th that had left due to development. The leader of the main clan taught one cat in the new clan how to be a leader. But soon she became pregnant and didn’t know whether to step down or not, since the other leader was male and didn’t talk about what to do with kids, so she decided to have kids but not step down. And I think that it’s pretty funny that a book series about cats is smarter and more progressive that a 40 year old

Do you mean *5th?* Because there was no 6th clan, I checked in case there was one added.
The one you’re thinking of is SkyClan I think. Very interesting Clan indeed :)
It’s okay for a character to be gay as long as it’s not their entire character, god people get so pissy over the smallest thing ever. It actually makes sense for characters to be gay because in the real world most people are closeted or don’t know they’re gay

Think it's a bit disrespectful towards people with genuine phobias who instead get called jerks because they're arachnaphobic or something. People who may climb on furniture, accidentally set their couch on fire, have a panic attack or pass out from the stress. That's what I picture when you say phobia. The idea someone has a response like that towards gay people, idk, maybe a few of them. Call them bigots, or jerks or smallminded or whatever you want I suppose, I just think throwing phobia around for things that aren't genuine phobias and bastardizing the meaning to now mean 'aversion'.. Gentle men (or women I don't bias) -- is it gay, to be gay?
I really wonder why a lot of people drag God into their arguments as if someone being into the same gender requires another flood that will also affect everything that didn't have anything to do with them otherwise the Milky Way will implode in the next 10 seconds.
We all live on the 3rd unevenly shaped sphere in a group of spheres that runs laps around a big ball of gases in an expanse of millions of other systems of balls of gas and other unevenly shaped spheres, and we're literally the only sphere with life on it we know if. One person being gay and another person wanting to punch them and a cardboard rainbow because they don't like June will have barely any impact on what's happening to our sphere, or those other balls and spheres, besides, we have bigger issues to worry about on our sphere right now.
There's also that belief that those in the lgbtq+ are no different than child and animal diddlers, and that there will be victims if nothing is done, nevermind the fact that a queer relationship involves two or more individuals capable of giving consent, something that 10 year old Timmy and his dog, Rex, obviously cannot.

in the original text of the bible, the hebrew one, the oldest book we use to get away with all the barbaric stuff that was in it at the time, doesnt actually say man shall not lay with another man. it was a mistranslation, it says Man shall not lay with boy, as in, adult men shall not lay with children. the line about sodomy after is because of the pain you put a child through by R*ping them not because its disgusting and evil to do anal.
TLDR: the bible says no pedos not no gays. the disgust rife through the passage was directed at pedos not gays. every other bible afterwards that used that mistranslated text has just decided to hold onto it for personal reasons.
