The reason I point out the similarities to Vietnamese and Korean is that it is the same middle Chinese pronunciation of the same word. My sister-in-law once noted that my spoken Cantonese was "precise" and "not relaxed". That annoyed me and that was 40 years ago and it still annoys me.
@@Obscurai You are right, it is the same in Vietnamese and Korean. I just realized that! My kin speak Hokkien and we say “lam” but I think some Min dialects and languages such as Teochew and Hockchew say “nam” as well.

South is more pronounced "nam" rather than "lam". This is the same "nam" in Vietnam (Viet) and Gangnam (Korean).
Yes, that is the correct pronunciation. Many Cantonese speakers have come to pronounce “N” as “L,” with 你 being pronounced as “Lei” instead of “Nei.”
