Thanks for your love for HK and Cantonese! I wish HK won't lose its uniqueness such as the use of Cantonese even HK is directed to be merged into Great Bay of the mainland where Mandarin is the main medium of communication. Missing HK old days all the time!

Your pronunciation is amazingly good! Even better than many local HKers.
Just a minor reminder. You said 焗花茶 in stead of 菊花茶.

Well Done Sue~ You should teach me how to play Mahjong. I know nothing about it haha

Yes!!! We will have to do another livestream and this time teaching mahjong. LOL 🤩💞🙌

Nice explanations. Maybe I'll learn how to play. By the way, you have a very pleasant voice.

South is more pronounced "nam" rather than "lam". This is the same "nam" in Vietnam (Viet) and Gangnam (Korean).

Yes, that is the correct pronunciation. Many Cantonese speakers have come to pronounce “N” as “L,” with 你 being pronounced as “Lei” instead of “Nei.”

@@R_L_1369 Yep, lots of lazy pronunciation creeping into the language. The reason I point out the similarities to Vietnamese and Korean is that it is the same middle Chinese pronunciation of the same word.
My sister-in-law once noted that my spoken Cantonese was "precise" and "not relaxed". That annoyed me and that was 40 years ago and it still annoys me.

@@Obscurai You are right, it is the same in Vietnamese and Korean. I just realized that!
My kin speak Hokkien and we say “lam” but I think some Min dialects and languages such as Teochew and Hockchew say “nam” as well.

Thank you for the video series on HK mahjong, and this one in particular. The ability to identify the tiles in Guangdong-hua makes it easier to play with Chinese speakers. Suggestion: please review counting 1-9 in the video.

so fascinating about the history of what became Bamboo tiles. Now I understand the etymology of "sou". Thanks for this cool information!
