You're right; I have been frustrating since starting Final Cut Pro X a few years ago. Of course, I never knew anything about video editing, so I can't blame my problems on that, but one of the biggest issues was not knowing how to make things stay put. Not knowing these small things has kept me NOT creating the video that I really want, because I was limited in what I could do. Thanks for clearing up a little of that clip connection business, so that I can more easily create what I see in my head. :)
Wow! You just helped me with three huge headaches that I didn’t know how to fix since I didn’t know the terminology to search for them. I’ve had to learn FCPX all in TH-cam so if you don’t know what to call something you don’t know how to ask. Maybe you could do a video just on terminology so we can build the lingo.
Brilliant as usual. I learn something everything I watch Steve and/or Mark. This one though is the motherlode of tips. I don't think I knew any of those. I would have paid to watch this.
This is such an excellent video. I'm just getting started using FCPX, but it's great to see what's gonna be possible at some point later down the lane. Makes me want to learn a lot more about the program, so thanks for this! :-)
Love the info! Never worked with these groups on line above the magnetic line. Still i wish it would possbile to just add a limiter to a certain storyline without grouping them into a compound clip..
Wow yeah that's a great one ! But what do you mean by "tilde key", "grave key"... I'm trying of lot of keys but didn't find it so far, maybe it's something else on french keyboard :/ How would it be called in the visual key binding thing ? Thanks !
This was great! Thanks! I have a question: I use a lot of repeating graphics mostly Jpegs or PNG files that I incorporate into many projects. How can I incorporate them into the FCPx's base library as generators or some other way so I don't have to import them every time I need them from an external folder? Thank you for your answer! :)
You can make the generators in Motion. I have my own library of illustrator logos there. When working with vector, don’t forget to mark the checkmark next to Fixed Resolution on the layer, or it will not treat it as vector.
it would be nice to show, what are the benefits of magnetic timeline...against traditional NLE . With a real example maybe, against another app, like avid or premiere.
John Spirou Here is a blog I wrote not too long ago, where I discuss the initial struggle with magnetic timeline, and then finding the benefits. There is one benefit of using the ‘storyline’ slug as an ‘island”, or group of ‘islands’ to which you can anchor your video and audio clips. I still haven’t seen anybody use his technique, yet it works for me, especially when editing longer projects. Maybe you would find this article interesting, maybe not. blog.soundsnap.com/2018/03/09/understanding-final-cut-pro-x-magnetic-timeline/
Hai sir, i want to know the last one shortcut option,,,how to roll the clip without move the connection point.. what is the short cut.... Could you explain that????? plz......
4:28 - and this is the messy part of mixing roles. It would have made far more sense for Apple to allow the consolidation of just the audio track clips into tracks.. sorry, Lanes! so mixing can commence, without the need to create a compound clip which of course includes the unnecessary step of combining the video and creating a whole new mega clip/timeline.. totally unnecessary and slow. I hope Apple will address this in 10.4.4 - but I’m not holding my breath!
Love Steve tips and tricks ! Stuff that evades me but thank god we have such wonderful people that remind us .
That mix down audio through grouping is AMAZING!!
Steve is just fantastic. I was lucky enough to be in one of his classes. I learned so much.
