As a local artist I thought I'd share some music stuff, if you're into indie grassroots music venues there is a street called Womanby Street where you'll find venues like Clwb Ifor Bach (everyone from Coldplay to Skrillex have played this venue before getting known). On this same street are The Moon and Fuel (slightly heavier venues) and if you're into jazz & blues then bootlegger is your place. You'll also find live music sometimes upstairs at Tiny Rebel which is a microbrewery. Then slightly outside of the main town is Tramshed a larger venue. Hope this helps any music fans out there looking for a club night or some live bands. Also if you're visiting and want to get a gift for someone that's arty and supports local talent then Cardiff Creative Shop in queens arcade, it's all independent so you're supporting local businesses/artists.

Excellent, as a Cardiffian been waiting years for this video. 👏 The Garth Mountain opposite Castell Coch is a lovely walk up to the top and affords wonderful views across South Wales on a decent day weather wise. Castell Coch is a 10 min walk from Taffs Well Station up the hill through Tongwynlais. How did you miss Cardiff Arms Park next to Principality Stadium, the tickets for club games are £20 and has one of the best sports clubhouses and views. 😂
For autograph collectors, the Arms Park is easily the best ground to go to especially if you're standing in the South Stand. I've met Gareth Edwards there multiple times and Gethin Jenkins and multiple other players.
Hi, you won't need much time. One day to see everything, possibly another day to watch the rugby or chill out in the parks, but any more than that and I think you'll be bored.
Nice video, although a little condescending, esp. if u r from Cardiff. Cardiff City Stadium is NOT built on the site of the former Ninian Park... It was only a few hundred yards away, the other side of Sloper Road, though. Also missed out that Castell Coch is a 'folly' built by the Bute Family, that owned most of Cardiff, incl. the docks & Cardiff Castle. The 1st £1 Million cheque was signed in Cardiff docks, when it was at it's height - shipping coal around the world! Also never mentioned St Fagan's - the Welsh National Museum of History - which, admittedly, is on the north-west edge of the city, but well worth a visit - a lot of it is outdoors. And, never mentioned the Civic Centre, beside Cardiff Castle, where the iconic buildings of the City Hall; the National Museum of Wales - which WAS mentioned, I believe - the Law Courts; & University stand. There was also no mention of the beautiful Roath Park, to the north-east of the centre. Additionally, Cardiff Bay was created by a Barrage that you can walk over, as the Bristol Channel, outside it, has the 2nd highest tidal range in the world, and would otherwise be mud flats for half the day.
Disappointing that you have to call this video 'condescending', especially given the bloated diatribe you just wrote. In short: this wasn't a concise compendium of everything in Cardiff - no video on TH-cam would ever cover that. This video wasn't made for people like you: it was made for tourists that have never even heard of Cardiff, let alone know what's there.
Great! Just be careful, concert traffic in Cardiff is terrible and there were reports that the recent Ed Sheeran concert at the Principality caused traffic jams throughout the city. Quite a lot of people missed the concert because they were stuck in traffic, so my advice: get there early!
@@StrangeUrr good to hear! Yes, apart from possibly the Rogers Centre in Toronto and St James's Park in Newcastle, its probably the easiest stadium to get to.
I'm guessing the only reason you went on single track roads to Castell Coch is because you came from the direction of Caerphilly. Castell Coch is right off the M4/A470 juction and if you come from that way it is a couple of minutes through a standard village with proper roads (they even have markings too hahaha). As for Caerphilly castle, it is the largest and its very easy to get to by train from Cardiff so no need to drive.
The Norwegian Church was originally near the site where the Butetown Link Road comes out of the ground. It was renovated and moved to the present site when the road was constructed.
You missed an opportunity to talk about Roald Dahl's involvement with the Norwegian Church. The bit you called Mermaid Quay is actually called Roald Dahl Plass.
Don't ask people for directions to the red castle. No one will have a clue where you mean. It's called castell coch. Nothing else. The translation is indeed red castle however. A train will take you to the nearby village of Taff's Well. Bit of a walk from there, or get a bus to a nearer village called Tongwynlais. Shorter walk. Caerphilly is easy to get to from Cardiff by bus or train.
Thanks. Yeah, the NCP car parks in the city are a bit pricey. Personally, I park along Wellington Street or Lansdowne Road for free if I'm only there for a couple of hours.
Either park just outside the city centre - in the area around the museum is cheaper, or Cardiff Rugby Club (next to the river near the castle) is cheaper than other carparks. Also there's a carpark that runs south from Sophia Gardens where parking is less costly.
I’m trying to move here from london, only thing is people keep telling me about the drug issue and pipe heads 😂 is it really that bad? It surely can’t be worse than london
So did my ancestry my fore grandmother's and father's are Welsh from Cardiff, Glassmorgan, Wales,UK Captains at that..my dad's father side to be exact..
Common misconception, but Wales also has it's own separate laws. It's just that many of them are the same as the English ones. It was really obvious when the pandemic hit - they still enforced things like mask wearing and social distancing when England lifted their regulations. They also banned you from buying 'non-essential' items, so Welsh people had to travel to England just to do shopping!
@@UltimateBucketList except when travel was banned! We also fined anyone crossing the border into Wales. Then there was the almost naked guy who walked into Tesco in Cardiff because they had deemed clothes to be non-essential 😂 I saw the news in Australia on youtube at the time, they were laughing their heads off at us - too right!
Criminal litigation / 'The Law' is administered by U.K Parliament in London and is in force in England and Wales. There are a few subtle differences in Scotland and Northern Ireland but largely the law is the same there as well.
Great video, worth noting that most of Cardiff castle, especially the interiors are far more modern than you think. They were extensively renovated and rebuilt in the 2nd half of the 18th century by the 3rd Marquess of Bute, who owned the docks and essentially the rest of the city.
It's on the other side of the country! Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is located on the Isle of Anglesey in the North-west of Wales. Cardiff is on the south coast. It's a 185 mile drive of at least 4 hours!
@@UltimateBucketList You're right about the city centre area but I think Gower and many beaches are worth making a video, Joe's is also possible one of the best ice-cream shops in the whole British Isles and there are some nice castles to check out too. Oh, and don't forget Liberty Stadium too.
@@UltimateBucketList there is a lot to report about like its lost potential. They used to have trams and copper works. Oystermouth castle (mumbles area) and the walk along the river tawe is worth documenting.
@@UltimateBucketList I hope I did not offend! I found Gavin and Stacy on Brit Box and absolutely love it. I found your video while looking to find out more about Wales. Just an inquisitive 'merican.
Nice video overall but I’m going to disagree with your view on the Senedd. It’s a stunning and significant piece of architecture (both environmentally and for recent history) that’s well worth visit. If you manage to go on a day when the Senedd is out of session, you can enter the chamber and get a true feel for how brilliant the building is both in design and use. For anyone interested in architecture, history, or even just taking in an area then the Senedd is an absolute must.
I got no problem with the building itself, but watching the Welsh Government conduct business is like watching paint dry. It's like you can attend Parliament at London, but not many people do because watching politicians not answer questions all day gets kinda old.
@@UltimateBucketList Like I said, it’s a great experience when the Senedd is out of session so you can go into the chamber and have a true appreciation of the building.
@@UltimateBucketList I'm sorry. But like the person you replied to, I very much disagree with you about the Senedd and very much agree with that person about the building, the way it's designed and the type of democracy it's supposed to (and does) deliver. And if you genuinely think that the Senedd operates in anything like the same way that Westminster does (in or out of the chamber) then I respectfully say to you that you haven't paid any attention at all and that in this regard, you literally know so little that it would've been highly advisable to say nothing at all. The fact that draw similarities between the way that the Senedd and Westminster function - characterised the way that you have - tells me that you haven't actually any real experience of witnessing the Senedd at work. Or understood why the design of that building facilitates a style of of government that is everything that Westminster is supposed to be but fails miserably at: for the reasons that you actually did identify. And friend: I worked for HM Government (in the Treasury Building) just across the street from the Palace of Westminster, so trust me: you have no idea. And it shows. I, on the other hand, was immediately struck by how different the system and the Senedd works in Wales. And was very impressed by the difference in tone and conduct within the chamber, as well as the accessibility of proceedings and Senedd members to the public. That's a whole different world from the visitors gallery in the House of Commons. You're comparing apples with oranges. Otherwise, you produced a great video and I thank you for it.
Norwegian church was rebuilt by Roald dahl who had Norwegian heritage. Caerphilly castle is the biggest castle in Wales (and way better than Cardiff castle) Worth noting that Cardiff is very flat if you want to walk around
If I were supper rich, I would buy Cardiff Castle and live there. It's like escaping the modern world, and stepping into another realm: part late medieval and part Victorian, then a hint of modern.
Take the direct train from Cardiff Central to Treforest. It should take 35 minutes. Both University campuses are a short walk away from Treforest station.
This is probably the longest video on Cardiff that doesn't mention Roald Dahl, Dr Who or Spillers Records, the world's oldest record shop! Very good regardless.
Spillers Records maybe. But I don't believe there's a specific attraction for Roald Dahl or Dr Who, even though they are both inextricably tied to the city. Thanks for the suggestions.
@@UltimateBucketList Isn't that area in front of the Millennium Centre where people sometimes perform called the Roald Dahl Plass? There were also references to his family inside the Norwegian Church. The Dr Who exhibition has closed but there were several references to him and the Tardis around Cardiff when I last went there.

What I will add on the public transport is use the buses to get around the city for those who don't want to walk
£4 can get you a day ticket per adult and can be used as much as you want that day
Yes, that's true. Thanks very much for the tips!
...IF you can find one that's actually running and you don't mind a back breaking ride through a pot hole ridden hovel 🤦
Really great and honest video! Thank you!
You're welcome! I hope you enjoyed this travel guide to Cardiff.
Be sure to check out my channel for more videos like this 🙂
Great video! I learned that I'm 3% Welsh, so I'm interested in visiting Cardiff.
You definitely should one day.
Thank you for such lovely memoriesxxxx
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video 😍I’m heading now to Cardiff many thanks to you💓💓
Thanks very much! I hope you enjoy your day out in Cardiff! :)
Love that you had an England rugby shirt on. But also great content going to explore tomorrow.
Thanks! Gotta represent the homeland, I guess? Have fun tomorrow.
Thanks for another great video yet another place to go if I ever to to the UK.
Absolutely! I'd say visit other UK cities like Bath, Manchester and York before seeing this one, as there's more to do.
That said, Cardiff is very Welsh and if you're here for the Rugby, you're in for a good time.
Make sure to read about the stabbings and murders and drugs first
wth 😂 please stop scaring people
should have popped into the indoor market, best place in the capital! cardiff is also home to the world's oldest record shop, being spillers records in morgan arcade. glad you enjoyed your visit butty!
Yeah probably should have done. Not much of a shopping kind of guy, but will remember for the next time!
Thanks for mentioning Spillers. Edward and Elsie Spiller were my grandparents.
@@16119121523 awe that's class! Got Cardiff royalty in your blood mun
Thanks for your kind reply Butt, my grandma was quite a character, as older Cardiffians will testify! But great credit must go to Ashli Todd for keeping the business going to the present day. Long may it continue!
Norway Church was so random. But again, this is Europe, every corner has an artistic twist. Cardiff and Sheffield are best cities in UK for me.
Thanks for the video. It's so nice. 🌻
Thanks Vera, glad you enjoyed my video on Cardiff :)
Thanks for this nice travelogue. I’m considering a day trip by train from Oxford later this summer (traveling from US).
You're welcome! If you're going west from Oxford, I recommend you check out my videos on the city of Bath and/or Stonehenge. And London is always fun (I have several videos on that). Enjoy your trip!
@@UltimateBucketListThanks for responding. I’ve traveled to Bath, Stonehenge & the Cotswolds on prior trips. I just want to see Wales, & if I have time, a day trip to Liverpool (that’ll be a looong day!)
A brilliant video tour! Thanks so much for sharing 😁
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting!
Fantastic tour guide off Cardiff 👍🥰
Thanks Diane! I'm planning to visit more places in the UK (as opposed to abroad) this summer due to the chaos that's happening in all the airports recently. Expect to see more videos like this shortly!
I really love your travelshows . So useful..A tip; Make a travelshow or two from Norway, lots to see and do....
Thanks Johnny! I'd love to go to Norway. Oslo is on my list of things to do this summer if I get a chance for sure.
But the whole country is beautiful, so I might just end up staying :)
Well done!! Congrats!! Very good video. Awesome channel. Subscribed!!
Thanks for the sub, much appreciated!
Thanks for such marvellous video! Cardiff is a great city!
You're welcome! And yes, Cardiff is really a nice city to visit!
Thank you for the video man!
You're welcome!
Castle Coch is welsh for Red Castle, taking its name from the red sandstone found in the surrounding area of the grounds. It was also once known as the 'Castrum Rubeum', which is Latin for ‘the Red Castle’.
Yes, that's correct.
Wowwww... Wish this video was longer....😇 What a Wonderful place. The Truth is, All places you showing us are All Great!!! From Scotland etc.... Brilliant video, Caerphilly Castle is the biggest in Wales and second biggest to Windsor Castle
Yes, that's correct. Thanks!
I didn't miss Cardiff Arms Park ... it's explained in more detail in my Pricincipality Stadium tour video.
And thanks.
For autograph collectors, the Arms Park is easily the best ground to go to especially if you're standing in the South Stand. I've met Gareth Edwards there multiple times and Gethin Jenkins and multiple other players.
Beautiful city, awesome video! How many days do you recommend to stay there and explore these locations?
Hi, you won't need much time. One day to see everything, possibly another day to watch the rugby or chill out in the parks, but any more than that and I think you'll be bored.
Thank you so much for this detailed video🎉
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed this video.
❤😊 Splendid!
Thank you!
If you like antiques/vintage then visit The Pumping Station and Jacob’s Market!
Good ideas!
A Filipino ofw told me when I was in London that Cardiff is very beautiful.how true.thanks.
It is. You should visit one day.
Very interesting tour! Have a great day! 14:52
Thanks!
Thank you -very useful!
You're welcome!
Love these videos!
Thank you my friend.
Okay Ninh I’m sold, perfect timing actually I’m going to Cardiff for a concert at the end of the month! Great video!
Great! Just be careful, concert traffic in Cardiff is terrible and there were reports that the recent Ed Sheeran concert at the Principality caused traffic jams throughout the city.
Quite a lot of people missed the concert because they were stuck in traffic, so my advice: get there early!
Would that happen to be Ramm Stein? I’ll be there too
@@UltimateBucketList Staying in a hotel so should be fine! That has to be the most handiest stadium to get to!
@@StrangeUrr good to hear! Yes, apart from possibly the Rogers Centre in Toronto and St James's Park in Newcastle, its probably the easiest stadium to get to.
I'm good be working in the stadium for the gig.
Love the video keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Yes, I'm aware that the roads are easy when coming from Cardiff, but I did drive from Caerphilly so ended up on the single track roads.
Great presentation, will check out your other videos
Thanks Knut, I appreciate your kind words! :)
I loves the 'diff!
Indeed!
That castle is something else,i was there but never went in
I think if you've seen the grounds and the outside, it's enough.
But yeah, cool place to visit.
The castle grounds is full of murders and drugs lovely place
Great video, good job 👍👍
Thanks Rob, much appreciated!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Thanks❤❤❤
You're welcome, I hope you enjoy Cardiff!
The Norwegian church was built for the Norwegian sailors who settled in Cardiff in the 1860s and children's author Roald Dahl was christened there.
Cool! That's a good fact to know about. Thanks :)
Oh wow! I just wiki'ed Roald Dahl, I never realised he was of Norwegian ancestry.
Yes I believe you're correct. My mistake.
I went to university in Aberystwyth beautiful but it is also quite bleak once your fruends have gone, some are lovely but done Welsh were cold .
Aberystwyth is very different to Cardiff, nice place but yes very cold.
@@UltimateBucketList yes totally different maybe cos its nationalist
Great video! Will you ever return to the ninh ly channel? Just wondering cus I’ve been binge watching that recently lol.
Yes I will, but it takes ages to make one video, let alone several videos for several channels.
@@UltimateBucketList just do you what you need to do! No pressure!
Great vlog but one thing missing, where does one park in Cardiff without having to take a loan out?
Thanks. Yeah, the NCP car parks in the city are a bit pricey.
Personally, I park along Wellington Street or Lansdowne Road for free if I'm only there for a couple of hours.
Lots of people park in Cathays and walk into town from there
Either park just outside the city centre - in the area around the museum is cheaper, or Cardiff Rugby Club (next to the river near the castle) is cheaper than other carparks. Also there's a carpark that runs south from Sophia Gardens where parking is less costly.
The car park behind Tesco in Canton then get the bus into town.
The city I’m proud to call home. ❤
Very nice!
Finally a local guide. Fair apply very spot on!
Thanks!
Local? Lol I'm out in the street 24/7 I've never seen him in my life and I'm 46
good review
Glad you enjoyed it
Ah Cardiff, such amazing and peaceful place, i live there and i love it, way better than Cornwall.
It's a nice place, but Cornwall is nice for other reasons.
Cool!
Just returned form Cardiff. Wales the land of my forefathers.
Fantastic!
Great video. Makes me want to visit. But surely English and Welsh law are unified? Scottish law is different though.
Why would we? We ain't English
We share some but we also have our own very different system.
Yes that's correct. Not only are they modern, they're incredibly water damaged!
1800s / 19th Century.
NICE
Thanks very much!
My home town ❤
Very nice!
My home city.
It's a nice city!
How far away from Cardiff is the place with the long name?
It's on the other side of the country!
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is located on the Isle of Anglesey in the North-west of Wales.
Cardiff is on the south coast. It's a 185 mile drive of at least 4 hours!
@@UltimateBucketList long way away gotcha
👍🙃
Ultimate Bucket List...about 180 miles....a long way.
You should check out Swasea. Much better than Cardiff, I swear! . . . OK, I'm bias, I admit that but still, definitely chek out Swansea!
I like Swansea. It's a nice place and I like walking around the coast. Not much to report on or make a video about, but nice place nevertheless.
You could have shown our civic centre which is near the city centre and people rate it as a gem.
Yes, I believe so. Thanks.
Nice video
Thanks.
nice!
Thanks.
did you know that in the birchgrove area there is a place called celebrities. there were 4 other shops there but they quickly died out.
No, I didn't know that.
This guys sounds like Uncle Brinn! ❤
I'm not so sure. Uncle Bryn (played by Rob Bryden) speaks with a heavy Welsh accent. I'm the complete opposite of that!
@@UltimateBucketList I bet he was trying to use a Welsh accent. I really enjoyed your video, thank you!
@@UltimateBucketList I hope I did not offend! I found Gavin and Stacy on Brit Box and absolutely love it. I found your video while looking to find out more about Wales. Just an inquisitive 'merican.
No offence taken ... I just found it strange that someone thought I sounded like Rob Brydon. He's certainly more eloquent than I am!
Blessed be x❤😂😂
Norwegian church was rebuilt by Roald dahl who had Norwegian heritage.
Caerphilly castle is the biggest castle in Wales (and way better than Cardiff castle)
Worth noting that Cardiff is very flat if you want to walk around
Yes, Cardiff is indeed very flat!
Roald Dahl was Norwegian with status as a British citizen. . He was a very successful writer, not a builder.🤦
@@501sqn3 yes obviously he was a children's author I meant he contributed to having the church built.
If I were supper rich, I would buy Cardiff Castle and live there. It's like escaping the modern world, and stepping into another realm: part late medieval and part Victorian, then a hint of modern.
Interesting use of your lottery winnings?! But I don't believe that it'd ever be for sale?!
my dream is to come there one day wish me good luck
Good luck.
How can i travel from cardiff to Pontypridd South wales university?
Take the direct train from Cardiff Central to Treforest. It should take 35 minutes.
Both University campuses are a short walk away from Treforest station.
M UK south Wales love ly thank you
You're welcome!
Work opportunities for international students???
Pretty good opportunities.
