A lot of guitarist miss the point with midi instruments. It's another instrument. You can play a synthesizer with guitar chords. You don't have to spend years learning to play keyboards. Negative people don't want change happy with the same stuff old. I am a classically trained guitarist and I see this as more colours to add to the pallet. This is where the next guitar hero will come from with technology. Personally I'd prefer a stringed instrument with a midi converter.

The guy literally says in the video "for guitarists who want to control synths". Noone is saying it's trying to replace the guitar, and noone is forcing narrow-minded people like many in the comments to give up their 'REAL' guitars to play SYNTH. It's like complaining about keyboards because you have a 'real' piano. Yes they look similar, but they are two very different instruments that create very different sounds.

  • @fred.chapman

How many times does the demonstrator have to say "This *isn't* a replacement for the electric guitar-it's a MIDI input device for guitarists who want to *control synthesizers*"???
The people posting mindless criticism of this very creative MIDI device missed the entire point of it. It's a good idea to *listen very carefully* before you speak up.

People, the first thing he says is "it's not a replacement for the electric guitar"! Genius Matt Bellamy of Muse uses one in "Madness". I am a classically trained musician, and as a hobby I play an acoustic guitar. I think it is awesome- a new instrument just like the invention of the modern piano (check out some music history). I love rock music too, and I can imagine another genius-Trent Reznor using one of these. By the way, he is also a classically trained pianist and a pretty innovative composer who won an Oscar for the soundtrack to the movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" a few years ago-all electronica. So RELAX and try to open your minds folks!

    so many angry dads
why would you dislike something that is clearly meant to play digital synths and virtual instruments because it looks like it's trying to be a guitar
yes it is guitar shaped, for the convenience of people who like guitar shaped things and great accessibility with their sound alterations.
this isn't trying to be a 'replacement' for steel and wood guitars. it's a guitar shaped synthesizer. what it says on the tin. the two things shouldn't even be compared.
also i really dont understand the 'play a real instrument' argument. things make sounds. you can play the sounds differently on different things. at the end of the day, you're stringing sounds together to make a song. composing. music's still music. why should it matter if you master one instrument or the other when making it?

Gotta love all these guitarist Luddites in the comments, so proud of themselves for playing "real" guitar, and conveniently unaware of how their instrument was once viewed the same way they view this instrument. In the '50s, people looked at the first electric guitars as garbage and ill-suited replacements for the pedal steel.

I agree, these will never replace the real 'axe'. But you've got to admit, this is one AWESOME piece of technology. Muse has already done so much with it, and the fact that the pad itself can be installed into a regular electric guitar makes the possibilities unfathomable. I've been playing guitar for years and I'll never stop, but BOY would I love to get my hands on one of these just to play with!!!

I honestly do not hate this new instrument, the only reason everyone probably hates it is either because they hate electronic music altogether, or the guy demoing the prototype sucked at guitar. Just wait till a professional gets the hang of this thing, I'm sure if somebody skilled enough managed to get this, you'd all change your opinion in this.

I think it is an amazing innovation in the guitar catalogue.
Not only does it take elements of the electric guitar, but it blends it with the sounds of the keyboard instruments and pad instruments, which cause a whole new opening to already existing guitar players wishing for a new tone, or else bring new ideas for up and coming artist.
Guitar purist need to stop hating.

Just about none of you know what this is. You plug it into your laptop or synthesizer and use the buttons to control a different key/note and use the touchpad as an effects controllet. This is a controler to make the production of electronic music easier, like EDM or dubstep. Most controlers are keyboards so they made this as a change, but it only caught the attention of actual guitar players instead of electronic music producers. This is not a toy for dedicated guitarist, but electronic music producers. Its a shame that a great idea like this is going to waste.

Embrace the evolution of instruments and sound technology--because it's not going to stop. I've been playing guitar for 20+ years, and I'll always love guitars--but who knows what kind of weird and interesting instruments people will be playing in the future? This is part of the next phase of instrument technology. It may not look like much now, but something like this might very well be a future generation's Stratocaster. It has to start somewhere.

because it allows guitar players to play a synth without relearning keyboards. This way you simply play the same chords you are used to. I play a Roland Synth off my strat, and it makes things very simple to learn. For a guitar player, this is the best ergonomic design!
