Hi Dan, No for the hard rock and metal palm mute chugs, I would get a normal guitar. Look at this guitar as a synth/midi controller. If you can play your chugs on a software instrument, this will control that.

Yes it does, but you have to use the app to adjust the sensitivity of the string sensors. Once that is done, It stays that way until changed. If I didn't adjust those sensors, there would be annoyances like unwanted notes from other strings. The notes would be harder to control in general. This may be why other users on TH-cam gave it a bad review. I actually took the time to adjust the sensors.
the entire point of having a midi guitar is only to use it with the DAW.. i dunno why the heck they trying to sell this as a practice or learning guitar.. they could change it a tiny bit and it would sell if they remarketed it... is the palm mute thing binded to CC? or is that volume automation? i'd love to speak with this company.. it's not a bad product. just needs tweaking a bit. and not marketed as a guitar.
I don't remember how the palm mute translated to midi. Nothing wrong with calling it a Synth Guitar / Midi Controller. It's been done as far back as the 80's. Casio DG series, (digital guitar). I think it's pretty obvious this isn't traditional guitar. AeroBand Smart Guitar is pretty obvious. What do we market Guitar Hero as? Video game controller Hero? I actually think everyone has their 2 cents to say about the guitar, because of a few select TH-camrs bashing it. Get the F outta here with that bs.
@FilmStrandPictures Fretlight has offered this for quite a while. (15+ years.) Band in a Box offers support for it to help you learn, but there is stand alone software to teach you as well.
It has a mute sensor where you put your palm. If you listen when I first plug it in with a cable, @4:50 that sensor was muting the chicken picking licks out. The effect is too strong at times.
As someone who doesn’t play but wants to learn, AND CANNOT MAKE NOISE WHILE HE’S LEARNING, do you think this would be a good place for me to start? I’ve been looking for something that would make next to ZERO noise. This seems to be as close as one can get.
If you want a casio/synth guitar sound, or midi controller, this is good. If you want to play guitar real quiet, just play an electric guitar unplugged.
This thing definitely shouldve just been marketed as a synth analog to a guitar. Not a replacement. I still think its cool, like the casio synth guitars that had rubber strings. Id definitely buy one.
You would have to use distortion and effects like any other guitar... you have to plug into it. Effects are not on board. Voice preamp has effects, but that is for the microphone.
Great video Hank, it makes me want one! And it takes me back to my teens and something called the SynthAxe, which i would have loved to have had. I think i must still have the expensive looking hardbacked glossy brochure somewhere. Allan Holsworth had one, but they were very very expensive. In the 80s, when i was in various bands playing guitar i also wanted the choice of also playing an electronic keyboard/synth, but the polyphonic ones were far too much money too! I remember that at one point, later 80s, that it was a toss up between buying keys or buying a car eith the money i had, and I picked car. AeroBand....do you have a chocolate bar called Aero over there? It was the first thing i thought of when i saw the word. I think this video gives a good impression about what this product can do. The heated discussion is about whether this is a good way to learn to play. As far as I can judge you're an experienced player (the gear in the background also suggests so) and already know what you are doing, and your remarks at the end are instructive. Concerning the use of the guitr as a MIDI-controller, some years ago I installed a (by that time (free) (software) audio-to-MIDI converter that enabled me to use my electric guitar to play the notes like you do. I consider this a valuable video/demo. The price is between 500-600 dollars.
Had to look it up, it was called MiGic. Can't say how good it is for you, but it did the job for me. Affordable, anyway. But there are more, although many products have their own audio source they are meant for.(mp3, voice etc.).
I played guitar for about 8 years, and had to stop because I developed eczema on my fingertips. The skin on my fingertips is so weak that the strings cut my fingers open. So I am actually considering getting one of these, because this is something that I might be able to play despite a medical condition that is otherwise preventing me from playing guitar. I feel like that's one of the values of something like this. Probably not a good way for people to start out learning guitar, but may be good for people in a situation like mine (though I know that is only a select few people).

Can you bend notes? Also slide smoothly up and down the neck? Also, can you tune to alternate tunings?
Hey Bert, no bending, and the notes change in half step increments. For now, no alternate tunings.

You can add pitch bend by using a midi expression pedal mapped to a plugins pitch wheel
