As a BMW fan since I was 4 and owner of an E34 ('95 5 series... yeah, I'm into classics), allow me to add some points to your complaints. 1. Fully agree on the dipstick, but don't blame BMW, blame the industry and stupid drivers. Tens of thousands of car engines seize up every year in Britain alone, just because people never checked their oil level. This led to lawsuits, customer complaints and expensive repairs. Many manufacturers gave up the dipstick in favor of sensor because they could check the DME and tell the customer "you ran with low oil levels for the past x miles, so no warranty claim for you buddy boy". And sorry, if I were in BMW's shoes, I'd do the same. 2. The fuel consumption gauge is a traditional BMW feature since the '80s, before you had the luxury of computers averaging out your consumption. This feature is very useful, especially when you are driving at steady speed. In the older models, the needle would pass the the maximum consumption mark and tuck under the cluster to the point it was not visible when you were at idle, this meant you have almost no consumption. The owner manual says the gauge is accurate to some extent, only after 20km/h and it tells you how economically you are driving. In my previous diesel E30 and E34, I actually found by looking at it, that I get better mpg doing 2500rpm than doing 1800rpm. In my now petrol engine, it shows around 9 liters/100km on the highway, and that's pretty much what I get if I make the calculation on paper, based on how much I put in it. So yes, it's very handy. The M models don't have that gauge, they have a oil temp indicator. Far more useful to me personally. 3. Maintenance is more expensive if you service it at a dealer and buy OEM parts for it. This is far worse in US for sure, in Europe, some labor and parts costs are not much different than a VW or Audi and some parts, especially non-oem are even cheaper than on some consumer cars made by the like of Citroen or even Skoda. Keep in mind that most BMW parts are usually of a higher quality, designed for less tolerances. Radiators are bigger than on most cars, the engines have better, more complex technology, etc. For example my 95 E34 has coil packs for each spark plugs and hydraulic clutch, dual mass flywheel and many technical advances which in many other cars like Toyota's and VW were not present at the time. Quality and that driving feel doesn't come cheap. If you think BMWs are expensive, get yourself a Mercedes S class or even some Alfa Romeos. Coolant DOES NOT have to be bought from the dealer. It's recommended again due to warranty claims and yes, it's true. Improper coolant CAN corrode your cooling system, leading in time to a critical engine failure. With that said, you can buy blue coolant from other brands, especially those which they list "BMW" on the back of the label. That's what I'm using without problems. For 10$ extra, like you said, it's not even worth it. 4. Wipers can be complicated... I guess, never tried an E90, but I never heard any of my friends complain about it. Even cars from the '90 had a secondary function to the wipers, where you could set the frequency of the wipers yourself, and they could adjust based on your road speed. Just read the owners manual, you'll find loads of tricks you never thought your car had. 5. Cup holders are a complaint, mainly from US, since in Europe we drive, that's it. It wasn't popular here to order a Big Mac with a large coke while cruising to work for a 2 hour drive. Not much attention was put into cup holders back in the day. Older models didn't have a cup holder at all, where US cars had them since the decades. I don't have cup holders, don't need them, don't want them, don't care for them. 6. Run flats suck. But again, don't blame BMW, blame the industry and customers. Why? because BMW needs to save space in the boot. Why? because many people say "hey, look! the Audi A4 has 460 liters of trunk space, BMW only has 420! I'm getting the Audi instead!" without considering that the Audi has a space saver tire in the back and BMW has a full spare, for example. This gets worse for BMW because they have rear wheel drive and large fuel tanks. This means they have to accommodate for large differentials on the rear axle, where other FWD competitors don't suffer from that. So yes, they went that direction as well, in order not to lose potential buyers. It's a shame, that's how it is. Run flats suck anyway. BMW's should be equipped with proper tires anyway. Cheers and hope you enjoy your car for many years.
+mowglilp Just as an addition to your coments from my perspective, it took me a while to get used to the wiper stalk as traditionally you raise the stalk once for intermittent wiping and then again for continious wiping but on the F30/31 there is a button to press in for intemittent then you lift the stalk for continious but once used to it there is no problem. I had Bridgestone runflats on my F30 which were quite harsh but on my F31 I now have Goodyear Eagle F1 runflats which are far far better and much smoother, they are not the most pleasant on potholes though but the M Sport suspension doesn't help either. Not much interest in cup holders either but the side pockets are large enough to take large bottles. Personally I wouldn't service my car anywhere except the dealer until it got to an uneconomical age as BMW quite often help you out with major bills if the car has full BMW service history. That's useful as BMW major engine repairs can cost many thousands of pounds and I know of one E90 M3 owner who had an engine replaced free of charge after engine failure when it was out of warranty, without the full service history he would have been looking at £15-20k for an engine plus labour. Fortunately for some owners, on new cars there is no longer any obligation to get your car serviced at a dealer to maintain your warranty (as long as you can prove it's done to BMW standards so a potential issue there) but they won't help you when it runs out. Older models in the UK can still get good servicing prices by opting for the economy service and can work out cheaper than a specialist if you haggle a little bit. My car certainly doesn't have a large fuel tank, for a Touring it should in principal be larger but isn't. I remember BMW used to insist on their own windscreen wash for warranty purposes which has now been stopped thank goodness. Isofix points are not the best as they're too close to the centre and make the seatbelt really tricky to clip in on toddler seats, this is my biggest complaint about this car. Overall I would certainly be very reluctant to own anything other than BMW because they really are great cars to drive and I should point out my added comments refer to a car in the UK. I do hope on the next generation 3 series they improve the interior solidity a bit as it feels like it's a bit cheaper then the E90/91.
+Dan Dixon No we don't drink coffee we drink Wine in Europe and were always driving fast on the AB :) If there weren't for the huge Traffic etc. where most of the time you drive like 100 - 120km/h at 6:00 in the morning with a coffee that you cant' put anywhere in your beemer :)
Justin, I have a 2006 330i and I agree with everything you mentioned - except the wiper stalk, not confusing to me, push up = more wipe, push down = less wipe, push down when off = one wipe, but I always use the auto too! :) Some reviews mention the "mushy feel" of the stalks - but I find that they work well and exactly as designed. The ergonomics are that you can accomplish what you need with one touch - less distraction from driving. Signal lane change = one tap up/down => 3 blinks. Turn on wiper = one tap up (no knob to fiddle with). No need to move hand away from the wheel, just touch with the finger tip. Very few functions require holding the control in a position for very long. I would add these to the list of dislikes: Drive Off assist is too sensitive and engages when it shouldn't. It is active even on level ground, dealer says it's correct. Car always lurches when stopping and lurches when starting. No way to feather the brake pedal to a smooth stop. Separate A/C controls and no sync button to adjust temp with one knob. I have yet to figure out interaction between seat memory and key fobs. Also, wholeheartedly agree to always have car inspected by dealer before you buy one. Mine had a couple of expensive leaks! But I love driving it! (PS use Zaino polish to keep it looking sharp!) Also, I put on all season Conti DWS tires. Thanks for the vids. Toby
1. No dipstick: yeah that's dumb. My E46 has one. 2. Real time MPG: It's better with L/100km as that's what it originally was designed for. As for its usefulness... ehhh. It's been there since 1981's 5 series so it's probably just tradition 3. Maintenance: How often do you have to buy coolant? But yeah maintenance is expensive if you use the stealership. Do some wrenching yourself or find an independant mechanic you trust, buy the unbranded but BMW OEM parts online, keep up with *preventative* maintenance and it's not so bad at all. Either learn about your car or get taken for a ride by the dealer. In the past year all I've had to do besides an oil change is replace the 10 year old battery and top up the AC. Almost 190,000 km and runs just dandy. 4. Steering wheel stalks: I have no idea what you're talking about here lol. Might be different on an E90 but I doubt it'd be confusing. 5. Yeah the cup holders on the E90 are shit plain and simple. Even worse on the E39. The E46's are... serviceable, I guess. 6. Runflats: They suck.
The instant mpg is useful. It actually help you to control your driving behavior. At least that is how it does to me. I like to save fuel and stretch the fuel mileage.
Yea man idk wtf is this guys problem lol. I came here looking to see if he had real issues. I've had my 06 330i for 5 years now and I live in PA. The run flats, got rid of them. The gas indicator, it helps me control my foot. The coolant?? Lmao this is just basic research everyone should do before buying any used car. The cup holders, meh it's no biggies to me. Needless to say he did this video just for fun
You realize the instantaneous mpg gauge is accurate. You're accelerating. You think you're getting better than 12MPG? And when you let off the gas pedal you are definitely getting over 50MPG. You're coasting...
+robert purnell right I have the same car. It reads around 31-32 at highway speeds. I can tell I get better gas mileage. With a needle that constantly moves it has my attention an thus encourages efficient driving. I'm glad it's there although I would like a temp gauge.
One more thing, if you need to buy parts for your E90, buy from FCP Euro, they have a lifetime warranty on everything they sell. Every year I replace my wiper blades, cabin filter, engine air filter, oil filter, etc...I buy the parts from them, send back the old worn stuff and I get my money back. All their parts are OEM or BMW Original. Check them out.
idjr you actually send them a used dirty air filter and oil filter used wiper blades then use the receipt 🧾 from the new parts and they give your money back wow that’s crazy 😜
I've seen a similar gauge in some Mercedes cars. It's really just an engine vacuum gauge with gas mileage numbers on it instead of inches of Mercury. You can add a vacuum gauge to any car. Or use a ScanGauge. You can also get a boost+vacuum gauge for turbo/supercharged cars.
What do you mean the mpg is not accurate? Real time mpg seems accurate from the description you gave and same for average mpg.. I don't think you understand their meaning.
+gkirts But shouldn't it be infinite miles per gallon as soon as you take your foot off the pedal? (unless you're in neutral and fuel in being injected to keep the flywheel spinning).
+Big Boss Because they're not going to make the gauge 10 larger so it can display the mpg more accurate. The e92 335i, displays 99.9+mpg while rolling down a hill with no throtle.
+Big Boss The manual transmission cars don't need to inject fuel to keep the flywheel spinning so when you coast the injectors don't spray any fuel in until the engine drops to idle revs. This would be the same with dual clutch. Saves you a tiny bit of fuel.
It's fine having an oil level gauge on the dash coming from a sensor, but there should definitely be a dipstick as a backup to check the sensor is working correctly.
The windscreen wipers are easy to use, i never confuse the steering wheel stalks... and the realtime mpg is pretty accurate, it shows how much mpg's you are running at THAT time.
Thats not exactly true. I'm sure he could afford them but who wants to spend $300 each for run-flat tires. They are extremely awful tires. The first thing I did to my 335i and 535i was remove the run-flats for Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
GetRichorDieTrying Yes i did the same to mine, but he said he couldn't afford the runflat tires, which means he can't afford a sudden breakdown of his car or quality maintenance
What I mean is that they are way overpriced for what you get, a harsh noisy ride. I've done all the service and repairs on this car myself which saves a ton of money even compared to independent mechanics. I always use OEM BMW parts and fluids
Regarding the G gauge... yes in US you have it like 1 gallon / X miles. (what is not accurate and hard to count, etc...) But BMW is from Germany, where we have metric system, so it shows how many litres of petrol/diesel it takes for 100 km. For us (metris system users) it is far more accurate and sometimes useful...
I sort of agree on the maintenance. The run flats are one of the first things I got rid of, the problem I have with the indicator stalk is it doesn't 'click' back when it auto cancels so you sometimes don't realise it's cancelled itself. The wipers have too many intermittent settings and I'm constantly fiddling with the wheel thing trying to get the exact right setting. Other than that, love it!
I think most of the people buying BMW'S don't really realize what they're getting themselves into buying these cars. Maintenance is key to these cars and most of the used ones at a "cheap" price or below average price are ones being neglected and abused and then sold when something happens to it and they can't afford the reapir(s) so they sell it for "cheap" and even though my 2001 BMW 330i is old I'm still OCD about it and constantly replacing and fixing stuff so I can ensure that my car isn't neglected in any way.
This is so true. My first BMW was a 1999 328i with 220,000 miles and an R title. That thing was BEAT when I first got it, I guess because the guy before me who had owned it for like 11 years eventually lost interest in it and just considered it an old car, so he sold it to me for only a grand. The car definitely looked like a 15 year old 200,000+ mile car with a rough dirty exterior, but it at least still ran amazing. I don't know if it was maybe just mechanically maintained well or if BMWs really are built tough and can withstand abuse and neglect, but since the car was new to me, I happily replaced the mass air flow sensor with a $200 OEM replacement to clear the check engine light (something the previous owner probably just wasn't willing to do if he no longer had the same love for the car that a new owner like myself had) and replaced the fubarded front bumper cover with a clean used one of the same color, and after a detailed wash and wax, that car surprisingly went from being a gross Ugly Betty to a pretty decent E46. I always wanted a 3-series BMW and knew from owning a few Volkswagens before that their maintenance and upkeep isn't the same as my first-car Chevy Cavalier, but I think the difference shows in the price point between how well these cars hold up over time (and even some abuse) as opposed to a cheap American econobox. Not everyone may have been as lucky as I was, but I've seen others buy older BMWs that have been beat on, and it's surprising how much neglect these cars can take.
+trenton mackey Maintenance is also key to the overall bottom line of the companies that produce luxury cars. A lot of the tech in them is designed to break, thus requiring an expensive replacement. A little bit of that adds up over time.
+trenton mackey This is VERY true it's far better to replace the little things as soon as they start to go out than have it pile up and make the entire car a mess. Also BMW's official oil change interval I don't trust, I change my oil at half the recommended interval...
I don't know why you're getting so many dislikes on this video. I liked it, and agree with your criticisms. Oh, and your car looks sick. Love the wheels and blacked out grill. Fog lights look great too. :-)
+Benjamin Chapman 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers 2.its not coupe 3.its a 330 and not 335 4.No M-sports suspension 5.well its a 3 series entry car 6. its not an M
Nicolás Suárez Henao Two years later how is the 325i doing give us a update with mileage and any issues you have had. Had my 328i now 8 years with minimal issues so far and 150k
7. Everybody automatically assumes i'm a douchebag and flips me off because i'm a 19 years old driving a black BMW. At least that's the way it is in Italy
Same here in the US. BMW drivers get a HORRIBLE rep - my own roommate even hates on them all the time knowing I drive one as well. That's actually why I make sure to be as attentive and aware as possible while driving, whether it's in my BMW or Jetta. I make sure to move over to let someone pass who looks like they need to move quicker than I am, and make sure to signal for every lane change I make, and even flash the headlights to let someone go at an intersection before me, all in an attempt to hopefully sway the stereotype of BMW drivers that not everyone who drives them is a douche. ;-) But I will admit that I've encountered people who are jerks on the road and are driving a BMW or Mercedes. The stereotype is true, but it's up to us to change it.
+NikkiDiamond 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers 2.its not coupe 3.its a 330 and not 335 4.No M-sports suspension 5.well its a 3 series entry car 6. its not an M
DuBstep115 who gives a fuck,i never said i had an M3 anyway lol I don't need an M3 at my age,my car is already more than enough for me as it currently is and i love it.
I think the mpg needle is more of a reminder than an accurate gauge. Gives you a visual reminder that you are wasting fuel by stomping your foot down. Its also a part of their heritage. Porsche too.
BMW e90 has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. They key is to stay on top of of your maintenance and you're good. I baby the hell out of my car. Lol
I have an e90 325i and I also share your sentiments about the dipstick and cup holders. I would also add that, my passenger cup holder, the one that comes strait out has stopped popping out when pressed. Additionally, the passenger seat occupancy sensor has failed, resulting in either a $155 seat mat replacement (not happening) or buying a dummy sensor box off amazon so that the airbag does actually deploy in all situations instead ($80 seems like a steal at this point). I have 98k miles and also have replaced the thermostat due to it being stuck open ($200? or so). The valve cover is leaking oil, not much, quarter of a quart in 5k miles, and also and will need to be replaced.
I found your video to be fine, no sense that you were nervous. Video tape/memory (my age is showing) is once buy/many times use. You could have remade your video if you weren't happy with it. I think it fine. Caruso
Steven Valenzuela as long as it has good mileage and good service history, mine is 74,000 an i did have to do a lot of repairs within the first year i owned it.
I drive without a spare. If I were going to drive across the desert, I'd stick a stock wheel/tire in the trunk. However, I make a daily 180 mile round trip freeway commute, and have done so for 20 years with few tire problems. It should be noted that run flats only give you around 50 miles of additional driving at reduced speed, so, in my case, I'd be tempting fate to even get to my destination. If you flat on off hours, your options are more limited with run flats than with regular tires. Some regular tire flats can be plugged, for others, you can simply purchase a new tire (careful with AWD, this can present a problem, run-flat or regular). Run-flats, IMO, are an expensive, illogical non-solution. OTOH, from someone who works in construction (so visits sites unfriendly to tires), the number of problems I have experienced as a result of driving without a spare have been very few. I do drive within civilized spaces, however. For anyone who drives a lot, any car may leave you sitting at some point. I had the bolt holding my serpentine idler pully break off once. Dialed an Uber, took a motel room for the night, had the car up and running the next day. If you drive a lot, this sort of thing may happen. For my money, the pleasure I derive from my 2006 330xi is well worth any issues I have experienced. Good video, thanks for sharing. Caruso
Your videos have great potential. Just be more enthusiastic in your videos and yep that's all! I have great hopes for you that one day you'll be a big youtuber!
The wiper stalk is weird. but one tap up is Intermittent, 2 taps slow, all the way up is fast. opposite going down... What confused me is the the REST button on the temp control. Why cant it blow cold air in summertime?
Ferenc Nagy I found a use for the oil dipstick! If you buy a iphone 7 jet black and are walking from the store and some hobo stars attacking you,you can poke them with the dipstick.
Seems like in Colorado 5 series are much better value than 3 but that's my limited research. Of course here in Germany I see a ton of e39s still rolling around and those e39 wagons rock. They got a ton of models we missed out on :( and even if I could get one at for a steal over here it'd never be allowed back in the US if it was not crash tested in the US ..... but this place rocks car wise.
My wife's BMW came with run-flat tires. They wear off very quickly, and they cost $500 each to replace! The brakes cost 3+ times more to replace than on my Toyota Highlander (1200 VS 380). BMW is just a really poor value unfortunately.
I'd only believe you if you're talking about a BMW X6M because no run flat tire should cost you 500 dollars a piece unless where taking about a big and wide performance tire. brakes do not cost that much more than other competitors. they do tho but not an extreme amount. you get what you pay for. idiot.
Only tire I have put on that was that price were pilot super sports on a zo6 which were around 500 a tire but they were 345 width X5's are expensive as they have giant 315's for some reason
Wipers: Fairly easy really. Press up for normal rain wipe. Press up twice for fast (=crazyfast for monsoon rain!) continuous wipe. Press button on end of stalk to switch on intermittent wipe. The sliding wheel in the middle of the stalk changes the interval of the intermittent wipe (from gaps of about 1/2 second between wipes, up to about 6-8 seconds). Press down for a single set of 2-3 wipes of the screen (which will also cancel other modes). Pull stalk towards you for screen wash, which will also wipe the screen a few times. Or, as you say, just leave it in automatic. I don't have auto wipers on my car, but I don't see this setup as any more confusing than any of the other cars I've owned. I like the fact it slows down the wipers if you come to a standstill, then reverts back when you set off again. I certainly agree that the run-flats really give a harsh ride, and are way too expensive compared to regular tyres, however I suspect my view might change if I or the Mrs ever get a puncture on a country road in a rainstorm. Most other manufacturers that have ditched the spare wheel for weight saving/distribution or simple penny-pinching reasons just give you a can of tyre sealant for emergencies.
great video. I agree with everything except the cupholders part. I LOVE that the cupholders don't encourge garbage collecting (tissues, gum wrappers, empty bottles) It makes for a clean interior look. You really should refrain from drinking things anyway. That's a very "American" thing.
@r32gtr1994 Nah, man, it's just that he rises too many 1st world problems - the one with the instant mpg gauge for example. That's just a traditional BMW thing to have that gauge there regardless if it's useful or not nowadays; plus it's actually accurate on the highway or generally when going rather constant above 3rd gear. Another one is the wiper stalk thing being too complex. Come on man, just have a look at it, it really is not THAT complicated, it makes sense, you just have to pay attention 15 seconds once and that's it. I stopped watching after this one though :P
***** In the 3 months of driving it (had 85K miles) it NEEDED a radiator, power steering pump and lines, an ignition coil, oil filter housing gasket, and a water pump. I also did other things like belts and pulleys and all the fluids but I gave up.
When that happens to cars who ever bought it from you just had their day made. Usually after 60k everything COULD break. It is the first service period and you did all the work. Now the new owner will probably have no issues. It is nail biting but every time I buy a used car I spend about $800-1,500 within the first month and then maybe one thing a year after that. 60k, 120k, and 180k are major intervals for all cars.
You're just not snobby enough for a BMW... that's all. And when you buy a BMW - you don't need cupholders. Eyes on the curves now. I personally find the cup holder perfect for my 8oz espresso. Cheers.
Just bought a 2007 BMW 320i. E90. Nice car done 140,000 kms. The doors lock ok with the remote and the key but open automatically when you put your hand on the handle so even though it's locked and the buttons are down anyone can open it simply by touching the drivers door handle The other issue is the right hand headlamp turning module has a warning light. I am told a replacement one costs $1000. Any clues on that ? Cheers Roger
+Roger McMillan It sounds like you have the convenience package. the doors only lock and unlock like that if the key is in your pocket in and in very close proximity. So you dont need to worry about strangers walking up and opening it. As far as the headlamp module, check amazon and ebay for the part and check youtube or a bmw forum to see if its a simple DIY. BMW is a vendor on Amazon and you can get some pretty good deals on genuine parts.
+Gheorghe Edwardt 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers 2.its not coupe 3.its a 330 and not 335 4.No M-sports suspension 5.well its a 3 series entry car 6. its not an M
maintenance is expensive, although u could save a few bucks by buying regular coolant from autozone, just ask them which one is for BMW and thats it, no need to buy the same one with a BMW label for more money
I own a classic 1985 535i. Owned it since 2001 and still does not need brake pads replacement. If you do the repairs yourself you save a TON of money. Parts are not more expensive than a Toyota and I doubt Toyota parts last 25 years or more as they do on my car. I just replaced the water pump, the original one. About 300K miles on original engine, more fun to drive and has better acceleration than many new cars. Very reliable and cheap to own....yes from time to time I have to replace things like the radiator, battery, hoses,...etc. but overall, more reliable than most other cars and a lot more fun.
I'd like to add three things... 1. It's thirsty for oil. My E90 325i took a liter per 5000km's 2. No engine temp gauge 3. The side mirrors on the models before the facelift are way too small for tight reversing and parallel parking.
We have such similar dislikes! If you want to see what these cars are capable of, or if you want to just watch someone hoon the shit out of there bimmer check out my channel
Totally love mine too BUT it also has a noise in the cabin that will never go away. It seems to be a subtle "creeking" from the dashboard when the car shimmies over rough roads or bumps.
Justin Buice same with me when I got my first BMW. 528i e39 I loved it but I regretted not getting a 540. But I just got the 335 coupe and I'm loving it!!!! Your car is still clean af man
I have the F30 and the windshield wipers control is the same thing - it DOES NOT work as expected. There is NO WAY you can fine tune the speed. That knob that turns in the middle does NOTHING. After awhile I just gave up and use auto every time.
How's your cooling system doing? Usually a low coolant warning is an indicator of a failing cooling system. Probably a leaking expansion tank. Usually around the age of your car a cooling system refresh needs to be done as a preventative measure. Usually this includes replacing belts, hoses, thermostat, expansion tank, sometimes water pump. Might want to look into it if you haven't already. In the long scheme of things as far as BMW maintenance goes this is relatively inexpensive. Usually under $300 for the parts and easy enough that you and a friend could get it done in a few hours. If you are ever in a pinch and need coolant immediatly. You can either get some from the dealer or buy Zerex G05. Zerex G05 is the same as the BMW coolant (Zerex makes BMW coolant The only difference is that the Zerex coolant is yellow and BMW is blue. Really have to be careful with cooling issues on these cars. It doesn't take long to blow the head gasket on these engines. Sometimes just minutes of overheating. Yeah cup holders are always an after thought in BMWs. Germans don't eat or drink in their cars. They smoke cigarettes in them though. Go figure :) I have an E46 and there are only 2 cup holders and one of them is under the arm rest.
the instant mpg gauge is just hooked up to a vacuum line. when vacuum is created when accelerating the gauge goes down and when you let off the vacuum goes away and the gauge goes back up
That instant mpg gauge might be more accurate than you think. The Olds Aurora that I used to drive had a digital one. Unless you drive like a total granny (which I actually tend do), seeing it dip down close to or below 10 while accelerating from a stop was not unusual. Foot on the floor will yield a solid 1 ;). It would shoot up past the max reading of 99, while coasting from cruising speed. Check what that gauge is sitting at while cruising on the freeway.
The rainsensor aren't complicated, its pretty easy. Pushing the lever up changed between no wiping, wiping and speed wiping, the "speed" tab is just setting the sensitivity of the rainsensor when you push the auto button.
from e87 experience wipers are as follows: nudge them up: slow speed , press harder upwards till they click: fast speed , pull the knob towards your self: they swipe twice and stop. to go from fast speed to slow: nudge down and to turn off: press down until the click.
I've found a great solution for cupholder problems in any car. If it's 2.5 inch opening for the cup for example buy a PVC connector reducer/expander that will increase the diameter from 2.5 to 3 inches for example. Then you can make the expander taller with a piece of three inch pipe. Use epoxy glue on the pvc pipe. Get the PVC parts that get the best fit possible. Then spray paint the cupholder you've made to the color you desire. To make the part fit its best buy sticky rubber 8x11 sheets made of many colors from any craft store for about $2 and wrap that sticky paper around the base to get a nice tight fit. I keep a variety of holders in my trunk buddy depending on the shape needed. Using a PVC tee you can expand a single cup holder into a dual one as well. Also if you really want to be efficient buy a cup that you like that fits your design the best and pour your drinks into that cup. Realize it is impossible to make an inexpensive cup holder designed to hold the thousands of types of cups people like to use. So in the end unless you luck out and you want to drink beverages while you drive invest a little time with PVC and make the perfect holder for that car. One cup holder costs less than $10 to make before your labor. And then sit back and enjoy. Expect to get a lot of comments and requests for you to make one for your passengers car. It could be a good little business.
how costly would maintaining a 1999 BMW 323i be? as it relates to sourcing parts and so on? i would actually be getting it at a good mileage, about 60k.
Really depends on parts. You can buy parts online instead of BMW shops and they're still genuine BMW parts but slightly cheaper. Realoem.com gives you the exact part numbers, depending on your VIN, that should help look for the exact part of websites like FCP EURO
There a thing called crank shaft pully which can breaks anytime unexpected. According to them its normal wear en tear. I dont undstnd coz wen it breaks, it causes R6-7k. Really now?
The wipers are pretty easy to control. I've got a 2000 model 3 series. Basically there are 3 wiper settings going up. The dial on the stalk is useful in the 1st setting. It adjusts the speed of the wiper to deal with light showers that are a bit too heavy for the base L1 setting but too light for the L2 setting. It has one down setting (ie below the neutral or wiper off position) that moves the wipers once only then goes back to the off position.
does anybody know what that sound is at 2:16 when he pauses for a second? i hear this noise inside of my car all the time but never understood what it was doing. it happens when you shut the car off and wait in it for a couple mins.
Well i hope ull read this, i have a 330 d e90 and i noticed uv have the same issue ( i dont want to call it a Problem) as i have with my car: the rpm needle keeps moving (up and down) strangely even though u r not driving! I asked about it here in bmw in germany, they said: there is something wrong with the electrics, but it shouldnt be a Problem, have u noticed that too (especially after driving for a while)or do u have any infos about that?
I have a 2005 645 great car runing great. Sensor showed up saying top is not latched comes off and on. Hope it does not let me down with the top down. Ive had it 2 yrs.
Hey man how are you.. Thanks for share with us your videos. I have a question so my bmw 09 328i remote when look and unlock my car doesn't make the beep do you have any tip that a can use? Thanks
You forgot about the electric windows controls which are way too far you always press the rear window button instead
Omg yesssss lol. Especially if you're in the passenger seat, it's a mission.
And I thought i was the only one with that issue
Germans got long arms lol
haha i do that all the time !
lol the struggle is real
A truthful, humble, down to earth BMW owner. My friend, you are a unicorn among BMW owners. Thank you for your honesty & candor.
Dennis Tucker so truely
I like this guy. He seems very honest and cool.
+Bighamza22 the man with a straight face
Little bit dumb, too. If you don't like electronics in the BMW, buy Yugo...
@@jakem2410 that's quite rude
+mowglilp wow, you did your research.
+mowglilp very good answers ! if those are bad things, than this is a perfect car !!!
2 years old but great info for my first car 👍
BMW engineers don't worry about cup holders. When you are cruising on the Autobahn at 150 MPH, you don't need to be drinking coffee.
+Dan Dixon hahahahahaha that was really funny!
+Dan Dixon hahaha so true in Europe nobody is interested in the cup holder
+Dan Dixon No we don't drink coffee we drink Wine in Europe and were always driving fast on the AB :) If there weren't for the huge Traffic etc. where most of the time you drive like 100 - 120km/h at 6:00 in the morning with a coffee that you cant' put anywhere in your beemer :)
you said a really true thing. no joke
THIS IS AMERICA, GOD DAMNIT! IF THOSE NAZI KRAUTS CAN'T PUT BIG GULP CUP HOLDERS, THE THEY NEED TO GET THE HELL OUT!!!
things I don't like about my car :
I don't have a car :'(
Justin, I have a 2006 330i and I agree with everything you mentioned - except the wiper stalk, not confusing to me, push up = more wipe, push down = less wipe, push down when off = one wipe, but I always use the auto too! :)
Some reviews mention the "mushy feel" of the stalks - but I find that they work well and exactly as designed.
I would add these to the list of dislikes:
Drive Off assist is too sensitive and engages when it shouldn't.
As for its usefulness... ehhh. It's been there since 1981's 5 series so it's probably just tradition
Your dumb... Petrol 3 Series the gen he has have no dipstick but diesels do
What's this got to do with the fact that neither I nor the guy in the video think lacking a dipstick is not good?
+Kr3wXv It's accurate, but we can all agree it's kind of useless. Just swings sideways *all the time* except when the car is stationary.
Right, but what's the point of that?
+Michael Lee It's not useless, it helps you learn how to "feather the throttle", to get better milage.
+Kr3wXv cruise at 80 down the freeway it will read 25 or whatever it is.
The real time fuel consumption needle is a BMW trademark pal :P
I know, right?
I've seen a similar gauge in some Mercedes cars. It's really just an engine vacuum gauge with gas mileage numbers on it instead of inches of Mercury. You can add a vacuum gauge to any car. Or use a ScanGauge. You can also get a boost+vacuum gauge for turbo/supercharged cars.
i loved that fuel needle. not that effective but cool lol
You know you’re in a bmw when you see that gauge
What do you mean the mpg is not accurate? Real time mpg seems accurate from the description you gave and same for average mpg.. I don't think you understand their meaning.
+gkirts But shouldn't it be infinite miles per gallon as soon as you take your foot off the pedal? (unless you're in neutral and fuel in being injected to keep the flywheel spinning).
Danny Hayson That's exactly what I said...
But my question is, why is it stuck at 60?
+Big Boss Because they're not going to make the gauge 10 larger so it can display the mpg more accurate. The e92 335i, displays 99.9+mpg while rolling down a hill with no throtle.
Joel Panttila Right. That's what I was looking for. I suppose BMW should've put the "+" for clarification.
The windscreen wipers are easy to use, i never confuse the steering wheel stalks... and the realtime mpg is pretty accurate, it shows how much mpg's you are running at THAT time.
and if you couldn't afford the runflat tires you should not buy a bmw.
Justin Buice i dont think runflat tires are overpriced, you get what you pay for. if you dont want to take the risk with a flat tire.
Regarding the G gauge... yes in US you have it like 1 gallon / X miles. (what is not accurate and hard to count, etc...)
But BMW is from Germany, where we have metric system, so it shows how many litres of petrol/diesel it takes for 100 km.
For us (metris system users) it is far more accurate and sometimes useful...
Thumbs up! Here in South Africa we also use L/100km, therefore when coasting it reads 0.
Avinash Hannuman Yes, that makes sense
I sort of agree on the maintenance. The run flats are one of the first things I got rid of, the problem I have with the indicator stalk is it doesn't 'click' back when it auto cancels so you sometimes don't realise it's cancelled itself. The wipers have too many intermittent settings and I'm constantly fiddling with the wheel thing trying to get the exact right setting. Other than that, love it!
realtime mpg gauge is doing what it's suppose to do. I have it on my car as well, i really pay attention to stepping on the GAS now.
I was about to say that's how real time is.
Damn you are totally right man...as mu e36...buying cheap...maintain and repair is almost the same as buying the car heehhee
+trenton mackey Absolutely true!
+Benjamin Chapman thank you! I really appreciate it
+Benjamin Chapman 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers
2.its not coupe
3.its a 330 and not 335
4.No M-sports suspension
5.well its a 3 series entry car
6. its not an M
DuBstep115 So just because Justin didn't buy a car to your specifications justifies the hate he's getting? That makes sense.
Love this guy, I'm Colombian, the next couple weeks i'm going to buy the 325i 2009, and now i have all the information i needed! PERFECT!
Nicolás Suárez Henao Two years later how is the 325i doing give us a update with mileage and any issues you have had. Had my 328i now 8 years with minimal issues so far and 150k
IF you want to drive a QUALITY car, YOU just gotta PAY what it takes !
Hello,
I have noticed that your RPM needle is "bouncing". What would be the problem?
I make sure to move over to let someone pass who looks like they need to move quicker than I am, and make sure to signal for every lane change I make, and even flash the headlights to let someone go at an intersection before me, all in an attempt to hopefully sway the stereotype of BMW drivers that not everyone who drives them is a douche. ;-)
But I will admit that I've encountered people who are jerks on the road and are driving a BMW or Mercedes. The stereotype is true, but it's up to us to change it.
T.J. Bilyk I agree with you c:
+NikkiDiamond 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers
2.its not coupe
3.its a 330 and not 335
4.No M-sports suspension
5.well its a 3 series entry car
6. its not an M
DuBstep115 who gives a fuck,i never said i had an M3 anyway lol
I don't need an M3 at my age,my car is already more than enough for me as it currently is and i love it.
Damn i only have 50k on mine. Guess i can look forward to these
"if you're the typer of person that loves to have a huge drink, you're probably gonna have a problem with this car"
+metal4bld lol this was one of my first videos ever. You can tell i was nervous
I found your video to be fine, no sense that you were nervous. Video tape/memory (my age is showing) is once buy/many times use. You could have remade your video if you weren't happy with it. I think it fine.
Caruso
So i just add the anti freeze alone, or mix with water?
mines an 09, i still havent figured out the wiper stalks on my 535 lol
see my comment above wiper stalks
I've been thinking about buying a 5 series around that year. How bad is repairs, maintaining ?
Steven Valenzuela as long as it has good mileage and good service history, mine is 74,000 an i did have to do a lot of repairs within the first year i owned it.
The rain censor went out on an 09’ I was thinking about buying.
I have a 330d sport. And not one if that things bothers me. Just have to know how to use it.
the wipers are easy I have never mixed the cc with the hi been brill car nice video
When you got non-run-flat tires, how did you solve the issue of no spare tire?
Krasi Sofijski there's a spare in mine.
+Krasi Sofijski mine didnt come with a spare either so i keep one of the stock wheels in the trunk
Idk if i would keep a spare on me at all times, thats some extra weight in the trunk that upsets spirited driving
Caruso
Hhahahaah kept laughing everytime That's that sht I don't like came up and then back to his face! Great video!
O snap Chuki Big FAN MAN!!!
Keep up the videos man, i love em. Its refreshing to watch someone who isnt full of themselves.
They have small cupholders cuz only in Murica do we drive with XXXL Diet Cokes 😂😂😂
How much was the milage of your car was when u bought it?
Also an annoying thing tha BMW's don't have indicators. Maybe that's why the owners don't use them.
Ferenc Nagy This is correct
Ferenc Nagy I found a use for the oil dipstick! If you buy a iphone 7 jet black and are walking from the store and some hobo stars attacking you,you can poke them with the dipstick.
I did not mention the dipstick. But I guess you have never opened the hood of your car.
I have a r34 skyline GTT that looks like a GTR and is left hand drive (In the EU a GTT is 10000$)
Why 3 series, seems like a 5 would be better value for money and more space?
+Jacana Productions i wanted something smaller and 5 series are often overpriced
+Boris Terekidi (Xi Digital) only if you buy a broken one, I have had 0 issues with my BMW...
where the fuck are you shopping? 500 a tire?? bruh yourass is getting riped off
source..work at a tire shop
I'd only believe you if you're talking about a BMW X6M because no run flat tire should cost you 500 dollars a piece unless where taking about a big and wide performance tire. brakes do not cost that much more than other competitors. they do tho but not an extreme amount. you get what you pay for. idiot.
Only tire I have put on that was that price were pilot super sports on a zo6 which were around 500 a tire but they were 345 width
X5's are expensive as they have giant 315's for some reason
+trevor philips actually no, BMW tires cost usually $1000, trust me, my sister and dad have bmws.
Have you had any problems with the pixels in your radio display? My pixels in my 2007 328i are so dim that I cannot see which channel my radio is on.
i got a 2011 335 got it with 4000 miles on it.. what i hate about my car is the rust build up on the break calipers, drums etc..
Clean and then paint them will stop rust or at least slow it down
I did- :) i just hate that they have to be painted.
Love the Chief Keef interludes lol.
I thought they were funny. A lot of people dont get it
..and THATS THAT SHIT I DONT LIKE!
great video. I agree with everything except the cupholders part. I LOVE that the cupholders don't encourge garbage collecting (tissues, gum wrappers, empty bottles) It makes for a clean interior look. You really should refrain from drinking things anyway. That's a very "American" thing.
why so many dislikes ? dont get it
@r32gtr1994 Nah, man, it's just that he rises too many 1st world problems - the one with the instant mpg gauge for example.
It's his opinion though that's why it says things HE doesn't like about it, not things that you shouldn't like to be fair.
It’s chief keef clips 😂
I might not know much about cars but the mpg is right?
I loved how my E46 needed something fixed every couple weeks, that's why it's someone else's car now.

In the 3 months of driving it (had 85K miles) it NEEDED a radiator, power steering pump and lines, an ignition coil, oil filter housing gasket, and a water pump.
Do you run into problems with transfer case being an 'xi' with the staggered tire set-up?
Just a tip, do not run staggered set on an XI awd. Transfer case will go. Big $$$$
there are BMW approved staggered fitments that will not damage the transfer case
+Matt Domingo on an XI? I understand Rwd staggered.
+jgiewont yes?! look at all the AWD X M SUVs BMW sells they have staggered setups. Audi Quattro sells staggered. do some research.
+Matt Domingo m cars have a more robust transfer case... Regardless a Staggered set effects awd wheel displacement. Unnecessary stress on the case.
+jgiewont ha, you probably change your oil every 3k too
The random cheif keef pop ups had me crackin up. good video.
😂
You're just not snobby enough for a BMW... that's all. And when you buy a BMW - you don't need cupholders. Eyes on the curves now. I personally find the cup holder perfect for my 8oz espresso. Cheers.
+Michael Salerno you must mean a latte or cappuccino. if you are drinking 8oz espressos then you would have serious problems. ;-)
haha... what a hateful thing to say. i didn't know that playful satire was the litmus test for BMW ownership. thanks for the thoughtful insight.
Just bought a 2007 BMW 320i. E90. Nice car done 140,000 kms. The doors lock ok with the remote and the key but open automatically when you put your hand on the handle so even though it's locked and the buttons are down anyone can open it simply by touching the drivers door handle
The other issue is the right hand headlamp turning module has a warning light. I am told a replacement one costs $1000. Any clues on that ?
Cheers
Roger
+Roger McMillan It sounds like you have the convenience package. the doors only lock and unlock like that if the key is in your pocket in and in very close proximity. So you dont need to worry about strangers walking up and opening it. As far as the headlamp module, check amazon and ebay for the part and check youtube or a bmw forum to see if its a simple DIY. BMW is a vendor on Amazon and you can get some pretty good deals on genuine parts.
What i don't like about that car is that it's not mine
+Gheorghe Edwardt 1. you dont have M-sport bumbers
2.its not coupe
3.its a 330 and not 335
4.No M-sports suspension
5.well its a 3 series entry car
6. its not an M
I like guy, M3 E46 is my dream
maintenance is expensive, although u could save a few bucks by buying regular coolant from autozone, just ask them which one is for BMW and thats it, no need to buy the same one with a BMW label for more money
6 Things i HATE about my BMW:
Reliability Issues
Reliability Issues

Reliability Issues
I own a classic 1985 535i. Owned it since 2001 and still does not need brake pads replacement. If you do the repairs yourself you save a TON of money. Parts are not more expensive than a Toyota and I doubt Toyota parts last 25 years or more as they do on my car. I just replaced the water pump, the original one. About 300K miles on original engine, more fun to drive and has better acceleration than many new cars. Very reliable and cheap to own....yes from time to time I have to replace things like the radiator, battery, hoses,...etc. but overall, more reliable than most other cars and a lot more fun.
😂 surprised me with that Sosa part
I really want one of these but idk if I should get a 328 or older 330?
Don't forget the electric water pump.
coolant you get from the dealer? why did you order it ?
are two dancing guys also happy BMW owners :-)
Yes! The one on the left owns an i8 lol.
That's Chief Keef
+lslove10 past tense. he did
Hey Justin, do you have any expensive repairs with this car, and how often?
Beautiful car!
I'd like to add three things...
1. It's thirsty for oil. My E90 325i took a liter per 5000km's
2. No engine temp gauge
3. The side mirrors on the models before the facelift are way too small for tight reversing and parallel parking.
I agree. They should have put a temp gauge instead of that useless real time mpg
+Justin Buice automatics get a temp gage I believe. Automatic 335i has a temp gage
I own a E 36 and the cup holder is useless!!!
Not one fucking cup fits!!!! I can't even have a plastic water bottle!!!
The dealer should sell cups if you're about that life
+MGD Hehehe that's why e46 don't have them, at least in front part of cabin. One's on rear bench are pretty descent
Is it worth to buy a bmw 330 2007-08 model in 2017??
Two things I don't like about your BMW, it's pre LCI and it's not a 335!!!
+jesus delgado i agree. I would have got a 335 but i didnt know much about bmw's when I bought it. Still a fun car though
Justin Buice same with me when I got my first BMW. 528i e39 I loved it but I regretted not getting a 540. But I just got the 335 coupe and I'm loving it!!!! Your car is still clean af man
Justin Buice From the E90 linup, witch can compare to the F30 328i with sport automatic transmission?
*F30 328i tuned to 300hp
jesus delgado Types of 5 series owners in my town:
Dentist
Lucky hobo
Immigrant
Car garage owner
I have the F30 and the windshield wipers control is the same thing - it DOES NOT work as expected. There is NO WAY you can fine tune the speed. That knob that turns in the middle does NOTHING. After awhile I just gave up and use auto every time.
+pflau1 yeah fortunately the AUTO feature works very well and dont have to mess with the controls too much
+Justin Buice ever since I tinted my front windshield on my 535i e60, the auto rainsensor doesn't work LoL oh well
Did you die after this? Get some energy man, and ytour vids will be great :D
Lmao
To Be Decided ha!
Lol...thanks for that laugh bro. :D Omg...I'm sure that's just his demeanor. :)
Wow.. You're informative but totally vacant.
the instant mpg gauge is just hooked up to a vacuum line. when vacuum is created when accelerating the gauge goes down and when you let off the vacuum goes away and the gauge goes back up
#firstWorldProblems
That instant mpg gauge might be more accurate than you think. The Olds Aurora that I used to drive had a digital one. Unless you drive like a total granny (which I actually tend do), seeing it dip down close to or below 10 while accelerating from a stop was not unusual. Foot on the floor will yield a solid 1 ;). It would shoot up past the max reading of 99, while coasting from cruising speed. Check what that gauge is sitting at while cruising on the freeway.
Cruising on the freeway the gauge stays around 30mpg which i guess is fairly accurate but freeway driving accounts for like 5% of my driving lol
that Song is terrible!
+JDM Le fuk are they saying in the video....
The rainsensor aren't complicated, its pretty easy. Pushing the lever up changed between no wiping, wiping and speed wiping, the "speed" tab is just setting the sensitivity of the rainsensor when you push the auto button.
Sell your car and buy an Audi you will be happy.👍
Hell yeah. It's like winning the lotto everyday that it's not in the shop!
Also, the coolant is concentrated you have to make the 50/50 mix with distilled water yourself...
No temperature gauge on the dash seems ok with you?
who actually uses a temp gage anymore? that car is more likely to loose a wheel then overheat
BMW's from this generation are notorious for thermostat and water pump failure.
Are there not oil dipstick kits for this model?
from e87 experience wipers are as follows: nudge them up: slow speed , press harder upwards till they click: fast speed , pull the knob towards your self: they swipe twice and stop. to go from fast speed to slow: nudge down and to turn off: press down until the click.
This wheels are bbs or avangard!?
There a thing called crank shaft pully which can breaks anytime unexpected. According to them its normal wear en tear. I dont undstnd coz wen it breaks, it causes R6-7k. Really now?
The wipers are pretty easy to control. I've got a 2000 model 3 series. Basically there are 3 wiper settings going up. The dial on the stalk is useful in the 1st setting. It adjusts the speed of the wiper to deal with light showers that are a bit too heavy for the base L1 setting but too light for the L2 setting. It has one down setting (ie below the neutral or wiper off position) that moves the wipers once only then goes back to the off position.
name and size of the rims? :)
does anybody know what that sound is at 2:16 when he pauses for a second? i hear this noise inside of my car all the time but never understood what it was doing. it happens when you shut the car off and wait in it for a couple mins.
What are those wheels called?
Well i hope ull read this, i have a 330 d e90 and i noticed uv have the same issue ( i dont want to call it a Problem) as i have with my car: the rpm needle keeps moving (up and down) strangely even though u r not driving! I asked about it here in bmw in germany, they said: there is something wrong with the electrics, but it shouldnt be a Problem, have u noticed that too (especially after driving for a while)or do u have any infos about that?
The realtime needle is for Highway use. It comes in handy over 65 mph, probably at 25 mpg, which is in the middle of the gauge. I like it myself.
what rims do you have on your 330
You pay $23 for regular coolant?
I have a 2005 645 great car runing great. Sensor showed up saying top is not latched comes off and on. Hope it does not let me down with the top down. Ive had it 2 yrs.
Hey man how are you..
Thanks for share with us your videos.
I have a question so my bmw 09 328i remote when look and unlock my car doesn't make the beep do you have any tip that a can use? Thanks
what size wheels are those?
