The jakkarripuuko is the best bang for the buck blade out there bar none. I recall, waaaaay back when the first North American TH-cam reviewed it, Blue mountain or blue river bushcraft. He praised it and very soon word got out on it and the shop that sells it and it became very popular. I cannot imagine the impact in sales but it was huge as suddenly everyone in North America sought after such a highly rated yet cheap knife. Even the sheath is awesome. They had to of sold thousands.
I got the 140mm. It takes a razor sharp edge but won't hold it forever, not terrible, 1095 level edge holding but it's much tougher than 1095,super tough steel. I were in the military, this would easily be my knife of choice. You can use it for everything including prying and you will use it because it's not expensive. That's the negative to having a pricey knife, you hesitate on really using it and for military use, you want something you can use for everything.
The rubber handle is super comfortable too.
If you want similar but a bit more refined they make one issued to the Finnish army. Saber ground, a higher quality finish.

Got a tip for you… buy some bees wax and melt it with the same quality of olive oil.. mix and pour into small tins. It’ll solidify and you can just rub your finger into it like lip balm then rub it on your blades. Prevents rust, makes cuts through wood easier, and is food safe. It has multiple other uses as well. Great on small cuts and cracked skin, is a fire extender in tinder, can be used in the bottom of a pan before cooking… great item for your kit

My Tops Silent Hero started rusting through the coating, Tops did offer to sort it under warranty but it would have been too much hassle as I’m in the UK. I stripped the coating and vinegared it and it’s more rust resistant now. You could try this with your ESEE.

I never have a rust problem with 1095 or A2 or D2 or 3V knives. My field kit includes a small diamond sharpener and small strop. Also included is a small dropper bottle of oil, which can also be used for cooking.
The ESSE 4 has too small of handle for me.

I EDC the Bradford Gaurdian 3.2 in magnacut, it is just right for a medium sized hand. You would probably need the 4.2 with large hands. I also carry a Demko FREEREIGN magnacut in my backpack. Love my 110mm jaakaripuuko, but i am sticking with stainless options in my current hot, coastal location.

Take heat gun or a hairdryer to it. Pull the knife are the sheath heated up really good it is warm, so use something. Squeeze it together a little bit. Let it cool where it’s almost completely cooled and then put the knife back in it.

Only the first 3 knives id consider edc fixed blades. The rest would be something id take camping/hunting. Ive got a bunch of edc sized knives, but most have a slim, or short handles. Designed to be easy to conceal, and carry. The biggest fixed blade that I own that im comfortable edcing would be TOPS CUT 4.0. Any bigger, and it becomes too hard to conceal on my body. Recently ive been eyeing Architect Knives AK 3.5. Its pretty much an ESEE 3, but with a bigger handle.

  • @ridehi8083
    @ridehi8083 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

nice selection of knives. However, your best edc knife of choice should ideally have a blade length of 2.25"-2.85" and a handle of about 3". another big item to consider is the belt clip choice. i noticed on the small blades you have the Ulticlip, which are mounted why too high and doesn't allow you a full grip on the handle at draw. consider carrying your edc blade horizontal carry at 12 or 1 o'clock (depending on your draw hand) with a DCC or FOMI clip. Im left hand dominant but I draw with my support hand. The Esse Izula-2 is a option.

My go to EDC blade has been my Osborne 940 for a folder. As far as fixed I haven’t found my sweet spot blade yet. Just recently sold my izula2. I have used sheaths in all configurations and haven’t found anything that I’m super comfortable. I tend to be annoyed with it rubbing on my car seat or notice them too much when I’m wrestling my kids. Hoping to find something that’ll almost disappear on me until I need it lol. I also would like a handle that is a bit wider if that makes any sense. A small order I know. I’m open to all suggestions!

I have a half dozen fixed blades.
Lionsteel M-4 best cutting blade stainless pointy steel M 390 Great if you are in Pacific Northwest if you plan to camp in torrential weather. Italian knife.
    Indy hammered knives Sojourner
Very sharp easy to sharpen and tough 5 inch blade 1095 steel Not too heavy …handmade knife by a good guy in a small town in Indiana is about as good as you can get for the money. No wait time to get one. He pounds them out a hundred plus year old anvil. He must really know how to heat treat. I batoned the heck out of wood one day…damn tough blade impressive.
Battle horse knife Smokey Mountain razor 4-5 inch blade 01 steel heavy would make a great woodcraft knife really sharp convex scandi did I say heavy . …that’s what makes it cool and it can really spark like no other…
Neck knife by Indy hammered knives I put my own handle on it 1095 steel 3 inch blade Sharp and easy to sharpen. This knife is when you know you’re really not going to baton A summer back pack trip. Still a very good belt knife. A bit large for a neck knife.
They all have their purpose all are fun
The Indy hammered sojourner and Battle Horse Smokey Mountain Razor are flat out tools not toys Great knives
The m-4 by Lionsteel would almost be a gentleman’s fixed blade especially if you got one in a wood handle Mine is mexican bocote I personally do not like the synthetic g10 because its heavier not that classy in my opinion Great sheath unassuming to carry Wood handle is lighter too Very cool knife rounded spine. I would use it to baton small stuff. Unbelievable sharpness and retention.
My take away I have had a number of knives and have gotten rid of at least a dozen for different reasons. These are keepers.
