I also have this knife. I really like it, however I do agree it could loose some belly, and a taco style sheath. Over all its a keeper and a user. As far as first production run #s here is are the figures I got from ESEE. Our first Production Run on the Sencillo. A2: 578 Magnacut: 739 Total: 1327
I love this little guy. Almost like a fixed blade Spyder Co Slysz Bowie to me. Except it feels better in the hand with no pocket clip or edges. Close to perfect for my edc needs anyways
I really like mine! Love the design, ergos are great. I used it over the holidays to slice up all kinds of summer sausage for our cheese and sausage boards. It was fantastic. Went through that hard sausage like 'butta and the edge is still as sharp as it was right out of the box.
I'm more impressed with it than I expected. The advertisements with the white background don't really do it justice. I like the flat grind but it could loose a little belly for more point in the tip. It's gonna hold up and be a contender by years end I'm predicting
Seems like another good option for the right jobs. I’m going to hold off for now and keep rocking the ESEE 6 as an overall camp knife. It just does so much and I don’t mind sharpening it since the carbon steel is so forgiving.
I’ve carried this on my last two river rafting/fishing adventures and it’s an awesome small food prep slice and dice, need something sharp to get the small tasks done kind of blade. Is it a branch chopper and splitting maul? no. It also does pretty well with skinning and index finger operations after a harvest at elk camp as my hunting partners can attest. 👍👍for the size and finer slicing ability
Thanks for the review. However, I think my next knife to try will be the new Whiteriver Ursus Cub. It will be a nice addition to my Whiteriver Ursus 45. About the same dims and also in Magnacut.
FYI Sencillo is Spanish for simple or plain. I like the knife but can’t justify buying it because I have many knives in this category/style/size. Good video thanks
I've had mine for a month now and I'd agree with some of what you've said about this knife. I haven't had any issues with feather sticking with mine but like you it still wouldn't be my first choice but for me it's more because of the size and ergos with its size. Ultimately it's a great EDC blade that is a wonderful around the camp blade but in the casual camping sense ie food prep/eating, cutting rope/paracord, basic EDC tasks etc. If you are more into bushcraft etc this isn't the knife for you as it just isn't built for that type of use! This is my first Magnacut blade and so far I'm pretty pleased with how easy it is to keep razor sharp! The sheath retention is great as mine doesn't wobble around like yours but I'd still prefer a leather sheath with a deep carry pocket clip over a belt clip kydex like the one that comes with it. I didn't think I'd like the grip design as much as I do given it sits great in the palm and the texture provides more than adequate grip. Overall it's a 10/10 for me as my EDC fixed blade I have better suited knives for bushcraft/camping etc but this one happily sits on my belt for daily tasks that those knives couldn't attend without drawing negative attention or legal issues!
I saw this knife . I really wanted an Esse Izula 2 in S35VN or Magnacut would truly make my day. The ergos on the Izula 2 are great. I have a Bradford Guardian 3.2 in magnacut and could not see spending on the Sencillio. Further more a neck knife I have the White River M1 Capo in S35VN which has the best Ergos ever. So here is hoping Esse makes the Izula 2 either stainless steel.
Ok...hopefully you see this. The lack of feather sticking is NOT due to the high flat grind. It's due to the steep secondary bevel. I've re-profiled many knives that have factory edges that didn't carve or feather stick worth a crap and ended up with cutters that work wonders. It normally doesn't take much of a change to make it just a bit steeper so it cuts into the wood easier. If you go too much, you'll have a weak edge. Manufacturers often want to make sure the edge "holds up" but end up making dull performers. ESEE is ok on the bevel but not great. I have several and had to work about 80 percent to make them much better bushcraft tools. The knife clearly needs the edge worked...like many edges out of the factory.
as much as I like Esee knives, and very much like smaller, EDC fixed blades for when I am not out in the woods, I don't think this one will be on my wish list this year. the very deep belly is something I like in a larger blade, but I like my smaller fixies to have a more narrow profile. I do not currently have anything in Magnacut but everything I have seen about it gives it pretty good marks for a durable stainless. the two knives in this size range that I tend to gravitate towards are the Tops scandi trekker, and the Esee Izula II. Thank you for this look at this blade, it has given me a lot of good information to weigh in on what knives to save towards. I am going to be looking into that Boker mini bronco.
I have the 4 in 1095, agk in s35vn(figured was better just for field dressing/skinning no brute work), I guess I need this one in like the 2.5/izula I need a widdler
Been watching this blade for the last 6-8 weeks. It fills that niche right between the Izula and the Essee 3 for me. Carried the Izula 2 for a long time and occasionally it was too small for a daily task. The Esee 3 was a bit chunky for a daily for me. Found the Creely Mako in magnacut and love it for the main carry. This Sencillo looked like a nice backup to the Mako. Lucky for me everyplace is sold out of the magnacut or I'd have picked one up already. Eventually I know one will sneak into my rotation though. I know some people hate the magnacut craze but I've had very good luck with the steel.
I wish ESSE would make a hybrid of the Izula II and the Sencillo. My dream knife would have the same handle and blade profile as the Iz II. But it would have the same blade thickness (1/8") and same blade steel (Magnacut) and slightly longer cutting edge as the Sencillo. I also like that the Iz II has a narrow, unsharpened ricasso between your forefinger and the cutting edge. With the Sencillo, your finger is right up against the sharpened blade. And, although the Iz II sheath isn't Kydex, it is a molded thermoplastic sheath that has excellent retention and no rattle.
@@SummitScenespyderco makes what you are requesting. Its called a mule team. They release sprint runs every year with different steels. You buy the blade ,scales and sheath seperate. Cost varies based on steel. But mostly around 150 bucks for a complete knife and sheath.
I just picked up a Viper Handy and completely agree. Will have a kydex sheath made. But the blade shape, handle, fit and finish, magna cut, blade geometry. It's a great little EDC.
One of the things that controlled the price market on supersteels was scarcity. S45VN was hard to get. D2 was everywhere so tool steels became common and cheap. Magnacut is showing up in everything now. It's so common it's going to devalue collections of knives containing other supersteels. It's the Beanie Babie tipping point of super steels. Time to unload a collection if it was based on supersteels.
I find the feather stick thing interesting as I do better with a full flat myself. Maybe that is because that is what I started out with, idk. Regardless, it is an interesting small knife, which I like. Thank you for the review as always.
Like you, I prefer a more pronounced tip. I'm not a fan of big bellies, especially in knives :). I think the Bradford Guardian would be a good comparison here, as well if you're looking to EDC it.
Hmm, thought I commented on this video awhile back, must've been one of the "shorts". Anyway, my first impression of the knife wasn't that favorable, but since then my view has changed quite a bit. This knife is actually pretty capable and more comfortable than I expected it to be given the relatively small handle on it. I've done some hardwood carving that was extremely tough to get through, and this knife performed quite well....moreso with gloves on, but good either way. Hard pushcuts weren't really a problem, unlike my Bradford Guardian 4.5 in which I can get about 2 cuts before it become too painful to use (not sure why anyone would purposely design such a bad/thin handle on a supposed hard-use knife). Very good in the slicing/cutting department, and small/light enough to carry easily. At first I sorta regretted getting this knife, but after some time with it, am definitely glad I bought it (in A2).
Good points . It spoke to me as an edc fixed...it might be because it looks like it would cut like a spyderco folder...🤔...but basically if i want to carry a fixed cause i will go in the nature, a sturdier blade would be better and for edc, why not just stick to a folder 🤔🤔

Hey Aaron can you please please please make a detailed video review of the esee cm-6 i would really appreciate it my wife just bought me one so id love to hear what your take is on it
Great review, camp kitchen is dead on. Hey essee do a large camp kitchen version, maybe an 7-8" version with the same handle, HOME RUN in my book. keep up the good work Aron (sp?) - Cheers
The low HRC and flat grind is the deal breaker. An outdoor knife has to be a saber grind. ESEE what where you thinking? Shame, should have been a 63+ HRC w/ a saber ground edge.
So... for my Sencillo in Magnacut its been pretty nice as a work EDC. I'm not working with wood though so... there's that. The knife being super slicey like it is makes it a cardboard destroyer... even through multiple layers of thick cardboard. I haven't used it for food prep yet... but I could definitely see it working for that. The wide blade does help give some knuckle clearance for when you are working against a flat surface. All in all... the blade size, shape of the handle, and included clip make for a relatively compact and easy to carry package. Been very happy it was my first Magnacut fixie.
I like it but the White River Backpacker Pro in s35vn is my go to small fixed blade. The narrow neck doesn't bother me, in magnacut if the price is right it would be my next buy.
I would suggest not using the edge right at the belly for feather sticking. It helps a ton to be closer to the back end, closest to the handle. Looked like you were sliding off when you hit the belly
It looks like a nice small food prep/utility knife for backbackers. Definitely not a survival or bushcraft knife. It's probably intended as a small hunting/skinning knife. Either the Buck Alpha Pro or the Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter look to be far more functional. I'd like to see both of those in Magnacut. I'm fine with the pancake kydex sheath. Not a knife that interests me. Another useful review, thanks.
This knife looks like a nice EDC to me. The length means I can legally tuck it away. The magnacut means I can par some fruit at lunch. My only issue is the sheath looks bulky.
Esee 3hm does 90% of what this does and works very very well at a fraction of the price. Esee is s company that does great work with their training and schools. They also do amazing designs for their blades… but they’re not known for innovation. Their stuff is mostly based around the same patterns from their original designs. I’d like to see them do an updated RB3. Make it and RB4 and thicken up the handle….That’s what I want from Esee
I'd take the magnacut over the A2 all day long especially when they're thst close in price. For a compact EDC fix blade the flat grind looks perfect but a taco style sheeth would ne better. For a bushcraft knife you can typically get a way with carrying something bigger with a more suited blade grind like a saber or scandi.
As soon as i heard that sencillo was coming out in magnacut i was waiting for it to drop and bought it as soon as i could heard it was made by whiteriver
Its spanish and it is pronounced sencilJo not senciLLo , means simple :). Well the knife looks ok. I agree blade is to high not only for usage but also aesthetically also the blade geometry is not what I would like, do not like the top is rounding down. but considering the steel used it seems in comparison to other knives from them, the price point is slightly better than other ESEEs.
It’s nice to see Esee expanding their steel choices but this one is not for me . I have three Esee’s in this size range so it would be pointless to purchase . They should’ve brought out the Izula or C.R 3.0 in Magnacut . Better yet give us the 6 in CPM 3V or Magnacut .
After having a Bradford 4 for years, then getting the 4.2.. I’m completely done with designs like this that use “choil” type of thing for a finger guard, it just sucks.
Come on Esee!! Just give us the Izula and the 3 in Magnacut, and we will buy them for sure. Thanks for the review, buddy 👍
You bet!
Also the 4 PLEASE
I always root for Esee and Tops solid knives
I already have a 4 in 440, s35vn, and 1095. I have the 3 in s35vn..I will buy them both in magnacut

Neat compact cutter. With other options available I can't say I'm super interested. It wont be retiring my wtg klapatche thats for sure.
I would like to see your thoughts on the Tops El Pionero it's a tactical pairing knife! Thanks for the look at the new Esee!
An ESEE made by white river… Yes please! This is on my short list!
White River's quality control is top notch for certain.
Now white river has their own little magnacut blade in production as of yesterday. I went ahead and ordered one
I believe i saw that their hrc for this knife in magnacut is 63.

The specs are different for some reason but thanks.

Are you coming to the Texas Blade Show?
No, but I am shooting for Atlanta blade show.
@@gideonstactical Sorry to hear that. Hope to be at Atlanta as well. Thanks! 👍👍
I was going to pull the trigger on this knife but I just couldn’t buy a knife without hearing your thoughts about it.
Thanks so much that means a lot i’m always trying to do my best to unpack the tools for you guys, so you can make wise choices.
I’d love it for day to day edc if I was carrying a fixed blade at the time
Esee 3hm does 90% of what this does and works very very well at a fraction of the price.
It amazes me that as an influencer there’s no one at esee who you can contact to tell you how to pronounce the name of their knife …. Incredible!
Absolutely mind blowing
Basically I want the Esee cr3 in magnacut
That’s a nice knife!!
Not listed on the Esee website? Weird.
That is very strange
Nice but I’m waiting for the CR 3.0 in S35VN for three years now. Hopefully they can release it soon…🙏
Great video buddy
Looks like a decent knife

I apparently bought the last one on Amazon.
Awesome!!😎
Sencillo is the Spanish word for, “Simple.” It is pronounced sen-see-yo
As soon as i heard that sencillo was coming out in magnacut i was waiting for it to drop and bought it as soon as i could heard it was made by whiteriver
It’s not even really an ESEE knife… it’s made by White River and is a literal copy of a knife that they(White River) produced several years back.
After holding one in hand, i had to pass. Just didn't "feel" right. Excellent review, sir!
Not even close 2 my Williamsbladedesign/trcknives SZK005 , or my HALF FACE BLADES CombatDirtNap !!!! My Best EDC blades!
Looks like a more refined Ontario SPL. I'd pay $50 more for that.
I would think this Esee is an EDC TYPE
It's around 255$ in europe. sadly way too expensive for me
Knifecenter lists the HRC at 62-63
Nice!
Too soft. 64+ is where it's at for Magnacut
I agree with you!@@dualsportoutdoors
F ! Reboot Joe X! I really am wanting that mini Bronco! Never thought I’d be buying a Boker for bushcraft 🤔
Ya I am looking forward to unpacking both
After having a Bradford 4 for years, then getting the 4.2.. I’m completely done with designs like this that use “choil” type of thing for a finger guard, it just sucks.
