Would significantly recommend updating your modpack to 2.7.0 beta 3 in this case (and especially 2.7 proper once it releases in december). Prior to 2.7 you were quest progression locked behind the sulfur quest in the steam age until late HV / EV, and you also couldn't progress within the Thaumcraft quest page. Now both are doable within GoG thanks to new hidden quest skips, which allow you to bypass the sulfur quest if you have 2 stacks of rubber bars in your inventory after unlocking the steel quest, & you can unlock the thaumcraft quest page if you have a profane iron capped wand in your inventory at any point.
@@gardenofgrind No problem. There are two things you'd need to do for beta 3 (at least until beta 4 releases), which is change the mod versions for "ingameinfoxml" and "nei custom diagram" (both the gtnh versions). The beta 3 versions that are built in does break igixml a little ('the text hud in the top left), and the nei screens which have custom diagrams like ore processing have desync issues. You'll just need to use v2.8.13 for igixml and v1.6.8 for nei custom diagram. Both issues aren't major bugs or anything, but for presentation purposes for yt it's good to mention here.

I couldn't help but agree when you said how you missed the early grind of this modpack. I've felt the same way when I used to play many modpacks like Crash Landing, Skyfactory, Madpack etc.. Its fun until things get technical. Maybe the fact that we know what to do ahead makes it more appealing I guess? Or maybe since it gets easier, we lose interest? Looking forward to the series anyway!
I think a big part is that once you get properly set up, the game completely changes - it no longer has the challenge of the brutal start, which takes away from the fun. After you get decent food, a well defended base and automated water, Crash Landing no longer quite pushes you. Sure, it's still hardcore, but you can take your time expanding fairly safely. It loses the thrill of having to do so many things right to avoid very unglamorous death. For the same reason, "pure" technical packs tend to be much better at this, because you never get the rush and the thrill - you're just moving forward at your own pace, automating this and that. You didn't get hooked on the thrill, so you don't lose motivation when that thrill goes away. Adrenaline is quite addictive, too :D One of the games that seems to be on the good track is Captain of Industry, IMO; you always have to keep moving to avoid collapse, rather than being "fine" after some point. Even an endgame playthrough can come crashing down due to a silly oversight, with crazy death spirals much like in Dwarf Fortress.
@@gardenofgrind If I wanted to give this a go do you have a download to be able to get your exact setup? Also Id love to see you make a modpack yourself using this type of start and drops ect. with a questing system behind it. You should seriously consider it lol.
