I decided it'd be a fun idea to play Gregtech New Horizons on Minecraft in a Skyblock environment starting out with literally nothing...
Yup, this channel was created to share my experience in doing just this.

Preparing & Upgrading for MV with a Plan! | GoG: Spicy Edition | GTNH
Hello,
This is my epic journey through the classic old Minecraft modpack called Gregtech: New Horizons aka GTNH(again)
*so in other words this is "take 2"
But instead of playing it in a normal world, I'm playing it in a void world starting out with nothing and to spice it up some more I've also added my own custom rules and changes to configs, mods etc...
The pack has also been updated to 2.7.0(latest ver.) in celebration of reaching its 10th anniversary, so there are multiple new things to play around with and discover!
This is gonna be a serious grind and I'm all for it!
The original challenge is called "Garden of Grind", but I'm calling this modified version of it "Garden of Grind: Spicy Edition".
This is the second time I'm recording my adventure while playing this challenge, so hopefully this time around I will have learnt some things to improve it overall this time around.
I'm playing and recording this through the Prism Minecraft modpack Launcher.
Here's a link to the official "Garden of Grind" rules and setup if you're interested;

Thanks for watching me suffer AGAIN!

Does the drying rack dry even when it gets pissed on by rain?! 👀 In other mod packs you need a roof or indoor or something. To dry properly
Does this modpack convert zombie flesh to leather through the drying rack? 🤔 I'd yes, then you should craft leather from zombie flesh.
I think there is a steam oven multiblock for 8x ingot cooking
Really enjoying watching you progress. The only thing wrong with your fluid tank setup is a lack of room for expansion and debatably room to get AE wiring to it. My setup has space for 256 tanks and is maybe 25% full currently as I’m in ZPM. The first jet pack worth making is HV you should build a basement. Need to buff up the steam generation big time. Multi block boilers should be a good fit just have to make a ton of fuel for it. You mention automating crops. Gregtech crop managers are a thing. Should be an LV tier one iirc
00:01 This is in fact part 15! Is there any reason for why the part number is not part of the title/video information anymore? I noticed that the only way to get that info currently is to either listen to the intro and hope you mention it there, or count the videos on the upload page manually...
Or look on the thumbnail in the corner…lol
@gardenofgrind oh wow you're totally right, didn't even see that for some reason. I guess because the contrast is much lower and the size smaller than in most comparable thumnails lol. Now that I know it, I can't unsee it. Thanks!
I think I have one or two jank solutions for the wand issue if you don't want to touch it at all, not even with the cursor if you place the worktable on a hopper or something, when you break the table the hopper picks up both wand and table. From there you can go into the hopper's inventory and only take the table, leaving the wand in the hopper to rot. For further storage you can make the hopper push them into a chest, and when the chest fills up you can break it over the void, thereby disposing of 27 toxic wands with the only collateral damage being one chest. A more annoying method is to completely fill your inventory with junk, and at least one table. That way, when you walk over the dropped items, the wand has no empty slot to go into, whereas the table can stack with the other one in your inventory, effectively using yourself as an item filter and allowing you to selectively pick up only the item you want.
The only problem is that I don't know if the hopper would steal the wand from the table before you break it, in which case you'd need to lock the hopper with a lever or a redstone block or something like that
These are both good methods, thanks for the ideas
make hopper to dropper and drop wands to void
@@Karpiuk599 Yeah, that's definitely the best solution so far
Next time place a hopper under the arcane workbench, then the items will drop into the hopper and you can just take out the workbench.
Ohh that I did not know…! Thanks a bunch
Shout out to our homie Loco.
I'm so sorry, I'm pretty sure you've answered this before but how do you do make rei let you store recipes vertically rather than a horizontal list?
Just click the 1/1 text at the top of your bookmarked recipes ;)
@@gardenofgrind thanks so much!!!!
You can fluid solidify mercury into quicksilver and then compress it into blocks of quicksilver. It is infusion stabiliser and a good way to store mercury
Nice idea! Thanks for this
good
Thanks!
If you struggle with vis, i can try to propose a villager slautherhouse. They contain a bit of everything if i recall correctly. Its not ethical, but quite effective
That sounds err… Lovely hahaha. I’m gonna just keep abusing the wand trade for now, until it becomes an issue. I’ll remember this though, hey plus you can get gold coins lol
"This is Steel crazy"
You use the anointing paste on a vanilla cauldron, not the thaumcraft crucible.
Whoops my bad.
i've been doing the covers on machines way too much
When you buy them gardens, you can place them and they eventually spread on grass (or sand for desert and water for the marine one)
Bending bending bending
Myu-*tan*-dis!
There is also warp that spawns sheep, pigs and cows. Maybe don't be too terrified
You're definitely not the only one who accidentally smacks plates on machines as covers, I still do it lol
There is a certain Neurotic Goose that abused profane wands and he threw them without picking them up from the table and not getting any warp! So you should be cheap and have a table away from you with void between you and the table!
I like his gear platform, but the way he builds on it seems so inefficient and time wasting. Why doesn't he spread out a little? loving this playlist.
You can make a stupid amount oxygen from sugar cane or sugar beet, but it requires some additional stuff for proper passive, it also can produce carbon as byproduct, so you know the drill, highly recommend this option Upd. About plastic, if you are going to use a benzene as power source, you are gonna be drowned in saplings as bonsai byproducts, so you can use them for your polyethylene setup using boimass way, but it requires a dehydrator, which is allowed only from MV, but you are will enter MV soon, so..
The GT++ fish catchers can be automated with hoppers and item pipes. They generate a huge amount of fish, slime balls, sand, diamonds, and much more. You can use them to make biodiesel or methane, which can be further processed for higher teir energy. You can also use them to automate making rubber as well. The only downside is it requires a bunch of steel rods, but it is not too bad if you have a lathe. Edit: With a centrifuge, you can make more methane from the fish than what is needed to centrifuge 1 fish energy wise so as long as you have fish you can never technically run out of power
I merged all my tidbits into a megacomment, for optimal overwhelmedness --- The best magnet I was able to get early game was the Draconic Evolution "item dislocator". It's not perfect but it's better than the enderio magnet iirc and I was able to get it relatively early. --- Mercury is typically used for either A) washing various ores in the chemical bath for a form of ore doubling, or B) burning for power in the Acid Generator for fairly low energy yields, but if you've got a bunch spare you may as well use it for something useful. --- Biodiesel is probably fine for where you're at right now. I'm a big fan of (eventually) producing benzene and nitrobenzene but they require a lot of infrastructure. To passively produce biodiesel you still need infrastructure too, it's just not as much. And yes lol, it's totally normal to have a huge wall or two of tanks/supertanks containing random fluids that you need for niche chemical processes; eventually you can integrate such a tank system into AE2 using p2p or switch to using the AE2 fluid cells. --- My original way of getting flight was using the Coal Jetpack (that I had to mute with the ESM:Legacy mod bc it's LOUD). It served me fairly well as an early-game jetpack, but I was able to fuel it with diamonds so I didn't have to refill it all the time; I'm worried it wouldn't work as well for you bc you'd have to constantly refill it. There's also a jetpack called I think the Copter Pack, but I never used it --- There is an item called (off the top of my head) a Multiblock Hologram Projector that can help show you the outline of multiblock when you use it on the controller, and if you hold shift and left click on the controller block it'll autoplace any blocks you have for it in the right place. I often have to rearrange buses and hatches after it builds bc it always places them in the same place, but it's still useful for quickly assembling multiblocks. --- Polyethylene is for producing cheaper diodes but you're allowed to start out with molten glass to get the ball rolling. Basically you start with the less efficient recipe, then use those circuits to build the infra needed for more efficient circuit recipe. --- The Arc Furnace (requires oxygen) usually gives the best yields for recycling, so you can take your old bronze multiblock controller and get most of the original recipe's ingredients back. You can macerate them too, but I'd just check the recycling recipes first to see which process gives you the best return.
if there are IC2 crops that drop soul sand, soul sand can be centrifuged to get oil. which can be turned into light fuel and ethlylene.
the best way to get ethanol is with biomass, there are two types, the one that needs to be fermented, this gives a lot of very useful by-products but involves a lot of machines, but if you just want ethanol the best option is the one you make in the brewery with plant matter (saplings are the best or plant balls) + water (fruit juices give a better ratio), you need thaumcraft to make the machine. I'm on version 2.7.0 and in it you can put two output hatches in the centrifuge that allows you to process ash and stone dust. the best way to get seed oil is vonbun a crop called Grape
Brilliant, thanks a bunch for this information! Appreciate it :)
Not sure how much the Grape provides, but in terms of seed oil yield I would recommend the IC2 Crop Rape. You can get 125mb out of 1 plant. Additionally this is one of the few plants that give 1 planball from 4 crops instead of the mostly 8 or even 16 required.
why not place the arcane worktable on the edge of a platform and just trow the wand from the arcane worktable and into the void when ever you are done with the wand
Because I’m scared of messing up… And I’m sure you get warp as soon as you hold it anyways
Benzene is by far your most attractive option. Benzene from logs in a pyrolyze oven to distillation will yield benzene. You have two realistic options for logs: Bonsais or a Farming Station. I would like to take my previous comment back about recommending a farming station as they actually cause a lot of lag lol. Bonsais can be automated with a Gregtech Crop Manager and its a lot more scalable than a farming station.
Ok cool, thanks again for your help ;)
Not sure how effocient bonsais with a crop manager is at making benzene, i tried making a passive setup but it failed to even power a simple ae2 system because not enough logs were being produced. If the crops are high enough level or you spam enough crop managers though, maybe it could work. Imo a farming station sounds more sustainable even if it produces a little bit of lag.
@juliannordbred6497 Using benzene for EV is tough, as it needs a pretty damn robust system. I honestly wouldn't recommend it. You do unlock IC2 reactors though at around the same time you unlock applied energetics and those bad boys, when optimized, generate loooooads of power. I've gotten them to take me to UV quite comfortably. It takes some very scary experimenting though...
@juliannordbred6497 or, if you reaaally want to keep using benzene, you can make nitrobenzene. Makes benzene a lot more efficient and consumes a lot less of the stuff. You still need a pretty absurd amount of bonsais plus world accelerators. I've only seen it done once by Threefold and I honestly wouldn't really recommend it.
these new multiblocks look so busted
They are… But they do require quite a bit of steam to run I guess
So exciting so many uploads so soon, be sure to pace yourself would rather see you enjoy yourself than burn out :))
whats this tool box i see you use? i tried looking it up in nei and couldnt find
Toolkit I think, it’s made out of bronze if that helps ;)
@@gardenofgrind awesome, thanks!
Dark steel can also be used for a good upgrade to your pipe speed btw! It’s one of the most cost effective fluid pipes early on
Ohh really! That’s great to know, I wasn’t aware!
I was just about to comment the same thing! My friend is playing on steam to see how far he can feasibly go, and he's using huge dark steel pipes everywhere.
I'd say potin is better because its super cheap
make yourself boots of chrismas spirit they give 25% vis discount
*Spoilers!
Love this series.
Id recommned a primative water pump and 13 steam solar boilers. basically 1.5 l/s of water. use that to power a ton of railcraft solid and liquid fuel boilers powered with coke ovens powered with bonzai saplings
For early flight, you can get a potion of flying with a chicken trophy, which you get from killing chickens in an MV assembler. It can be repaired in the thaumic restorer For power, bio-diesel is not usually considered a good option, considering how much you need to setup up to get it going as well as a low power profit. I'm not sure if you can get oil in your world, but naphtha spam can be a very good source of power, especially once you get raw oil and a circuit 10 distillation tower. There's also regular diesel which can be upgraded into cetane-boosted diesel in HV. You can also take a look at benzene, which is probably one of the best options available, and when upgraded to nitrobenzene can get you to LuV. Benzene comes from a pyrolyse oven making wood tar and charcoal, which can also be extracted to make more wood tar. Distilling the wood tar will give you benzene. In my opinion, you're better off going for benzene rather than bio-diesel, I've used benzene until fusion power in my regular GTNH world Anyway, thanks for the amazing series, enjoying it so far!
Thanks for this information, legend
+1 for benzene, completely renewable! Does require a pyrolyse oven and MV distillation though. (Also a crop farmer + tree bonsais are a good source of wood)
Nitrobenzene is open from IV(EV with LCR EV hatch overclock), at least on 2.6, maybe they changed it on 2.7
For ethanol the best way is plant balls > chaff > biomass > ethanol the biomass is best done in a pyrolysis oven since you can also use the ethanol with sulfuric acid for ethylene or you can use the dehydrator (MV) to avoid needing the acid but much slower but this is your none oil source of plastic. The are alternative ways to get biomass to using forestry and may be others. Oh just to add methane is bad it you want turbine fuel from logs look at benzene
Yeeah your third try failed because you connected the cables. It would have worked if you didnt 😂
There is a quest in crops for a cropalyzer the bad scanner and it gives 1 battery which can be used to duplicate battery alloy via thaumcraft
Ohh interesting! Defo gonna look into that, I’ve already unlocked all the nugget dupes in Thaumcraft so this is a no brainer. (Provided I can unlock that quest…lol)
Okay Dan... it's time for a sleeping bag mate :)
Ohh! I have one, a blue one somewhere haha
You can also zombify villager and heal him for discount (work multiple times and stacks big will not go lover then 1 emerald) but idk how it works in greg tech, test in the creative world)
I don’t think that’s a thing sadly… I started by curing zombie villagers, didn’t get any discounts. Probz a newer introduced mechanic in later versions of Minecraft
@gardenofgrind try to cure it 2 times maybe?
Trade discounts after curing are 1.14 and above, GTNH is on 1.7.10
@zeromortalsplan ah i see, i got versions mixed up
Best way to get seed oil is walnut tree
No it’s not… Coconut is the best
@gardenofgrind you can Just hold right click with bonemeal on valnut and get tonns of that stuff
Actually peanuts, while each peanuts might not get as much oil but they have a much higher production rate and are a standard crop so easy to automate
I'd kreygasm if you did each oreberry with a crop manager. Please doooooooooo it!
Oh god, not water electrolysis. Not the worst energy/time wise way to get hydrogen/oxygen
It’s just a start… Lol
@gardenofgrind for oxygen sugar is best. Either through sugar beets (crop) or sweeds (thaumic bases) For hydrogen there's either processing byproducts of oils or wood tars... Technically...it's true that hydrogen is kinda hard to get early before you setup either wood tar with distillation tower or handle the byproducts of petrochem Methane by itself isn't very good power source (unless you get is as byproduct of from tons of natural gas) you can either setup xp conversion charcoal into benzene ...which would eat majority of your XP production, or setup biofuel which usually isn't very good fuel source. With a bit of tree breeding you can get...I believe mahoe? Saplings that provide the most biomass per sapling. For fish oil the screaming crop is great (goldfish) otherwise there are forestry trees that give tons of seed oil
There is a mod called Extreme Sound Muffler Legacy. It gives you a little button in the inventory that lets you configure every single sound manually. So you can turn down some really annoying sounds like the loud EBF or the Pechs
I know about this mod I’ve added it to a few of my packs in the past, but I think the intention is to create muffler upgrades
@gardenofgrind I get that. My problem with muffler upgrades is that they mute the sound completely and I still like the machine noise, it's just way too loud. And I am not sure that Muffler upgrades work on multiblocks
The IC2 Electrical jetpack should be doable if not now, soon ish.
Cool, I’ll take a look into that. Thanks
It's normal to have tons of supertanks with every kind of liquids. However usually you want them neatly accessible for your machines with ender fluid conduits (early on any way). Also Bio diesel is good but I think if you're going to set that up, it's not that much more difficult to upgrade the bio diesel into something better.
Noted, cheers for this
Not sure if you will be doing this this episode, but I just remembered that there are LV Fluid Heaters. Takes a little power and makes quite a bit of steam!
They are tuned to make sure you can't make infinite ppwer
@@shaynegadsden Good to know!
Again a vid so fast, the grind is real😂
