Welcome to the fifth video of this series, those of you who already follow us will know that the videos we post are normally short clips of an engine running after overhaul or when it first arrives with us. In this series after many requests we will be following the stripdown, inspection and restoration of a Gardner 6LXB from a 1972 Atkinson Borderer. In this video we continue begin the rebuild by reinstalling the crank into the crankcase, install the camshaft and roughly timing in the cam.

These videos of the rebuild / recondition of the 6LXB is such a great resource for referencing and appreciating such a great brand of motor.
I served my apprenticeship working on Leyland, BMC, Gardners, Perkins, Cummins, Rolls Royce, AEC and many other automotive engines. Happy days. 🥰
Hi was a very informative video, mind I'm bias as I love playing with old engines anyway, as Roland says this engine is a work of art and deserves to be saved, well done guys, keep up the good work

When i was young in summer we were reunited the engine again

Hi,as a retired marine fitter I worked on Gardner engines many years ago, mainly 6 and 8 cylinder L3’s and later L3b’s.beautiful works of art.
Love the video,I shall now play catch up and watch the strip down Cheers,Roly🇬🇧.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I personally love the L3 / L3B's, beautiful engines. one things is for sure I cant think of any modern engines that look as good as a Gardner.
You can change the idler sprocket with the crank & damper in place, cut the threads down on the sprocket, remove a nut & spring on the damper, and knock the bolt back.
@@carllockpick6179 Thanks for taking the time to comment and hope you're enjoying the videos. Yes you can do it that way and good for an in the field repair, but cutting bits off isn't correct for a bare block rebuild. When we do an engine user modified bits, like that would be, that are not as per the original manufacturers design get filed in the bin 👍
@@MPSVintageDiesels ye I agree, but when a engine, needs to be on the road quickly, its a quicker & cheaper option. Carl ex Gardner fitter.
@@carllockpick6179 Definitely. especially when the alternative is taking the crank out.
Thankyou for the video, very informative, quick question,do you have or know of a rear sump and oil pipe for a lxc, again thanks for sharing your experience.
Drop us a message via our website. Need to know what oil pipe you mean. Sump isnt a problem.
