    I love your idea to write companies about changing their packaging. That way it's helpful to the companies to know what changes they can make so that people will want to support them more.

    Hi Kate! Thank you very much for sharing your experience ♡. I love watching your videos since sometimes I feel stuck in the process, but I am really excited about the journey and always finding better ways to do things. I am from Colombia (South America) and hope more people in the world could watch your videos. Have you ever thought about subtitles? I could do that :) If you are not interested, then it is OK, but pleaaase keep posting, sharing and inspiring people to reduce their waste ♡. Thank you!

    Love your videos, Kate! I know that you’ve done several on grocery shopping zero-waste-style (and those are great); have you considered doing an overview of a “week in meals” to show how your household typically cooks and eats? I always return from the market with baskets and bags of gorgeous produce and bulk staples, then am stumped for clever ways to use it all (I usually make 1 overly complicated ottolenghi recipe, then collapse in a heap and eat salads all week while admiring the pretty lentils on the shelf).

    Yes, I just found Ecosia and have helped plant 10 trees so far. I live aboard and found your channel a month ago and am attempting my first PFJ. I am making beeswax wraps and cloth bags for bulk foods and small loose produce. BTW Vancouver Canada just opened NADA a zero waste store. I follow them on Twitter and have fingers crossed they will open one on the Island where I live. Thanks for inspiring me, Kate. Oh, and London is my favourite city in the world!

      That's awesome, Chelsea. What are you finding is the most challenging for you? For me it's accessibility to plastic free packaging as I live in a small community. In the summer it's easy as I go to the Farmer's market but this winter will be a little more challenging. Luckily there is a family run butcher and he has already said it's ok to bring in my containers.

    Thanks Kate, I'm going to get my bf and I and t-shirt. I didn't think there's plastic in those bottle caps. Mind blown!

    Great video! You cold also tie a knot into the snapped hairband and still use ist (if you don't mind the knot and it's not gotten too small to use).

    I recently watched a video where one woman made magnets out of beer caps and other caps in general and I thought it was super cute!

    There are biodegradable poo bags! They cost quite a bit more than regular ones though, maybe food caddy bin liners might work, too? For this July I have been crocheting cotton dish cloths so I don't have to use washing up sponges anymore. And Ecosia has been my go to- search engine for the last few months, both on my laptop and my phone. I think I have planted 10 trees by now (it takes rougly 50 searches per tree I believe?).

    What do you replace your microfiber clothes with? I use them for general cleaning and daily dusting. Would like to know of good alternatives

    Stick your beer caps on soaps, so they don't get soggy. No need for soap racks anymore! They stay elevated and dry thanks to the cap at the bottom.

    great video - really trying to be plastic free / zero waste but very difficult as there is nothing in the way of package free shops refill your water stations etc in my town . as a single mum of a special needs child my shopping has to be local as I dont drive or online - still will try my best as every little bit helps

      Just buy the largest container of what you can use and afford it will help overall. Another option is to go in with others and buy a larger portion of something and split it up using containers you already own.

    I don’t drink but wouldn’t it be possible to just go into any pub/bar and have them charge you for beer on tap and just have them put it in your refillable bottle? Does it necessarily have to be that particular place that you go to?

    Great Video! Thank you for being part of the solution ♻️🌎! Unfortunately, here in the USA and most nations; an eco lifestyle is very rare. I live in one of the most progressive regions in the nation and STILL every single entertainment event, from concerts to movie theaters, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, etc..... ALL produce an enormous amount of trash and plastic waste. Even getting people to use recycling bins properly is a huge challenge. I wish all of our efforts are making a difference, but the truth is - we are still in the very, very small minority. Most companies and markets that boast Organic, Natural, etc... are simply greenwashing and continue to use plastics in all of their packagings. Hopefully people will start making changes soon, but I'm not holding my breath 😐

    What do you do with canned food? Do you just not buy any? What about food sold in glass jars?

    • @Coccinelf
      @Coccinelf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips! I will ask but I'm pretty sure they won't accept my old jars at Bulk Barn. I totally know that doing my best is the important thing but I also feel like an important part of this movement is to do without, so I'm always doubting that I don't "do without" enough.

    • @Coccinelf
      @Coccinelf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm in Canada! I know! It's great, I honestly never went before their new policy. I was just talking about my excess jars, I'm not confident they will take them.

    I hope you start showing its possible to do this very cheaply. You can also say how many hundreds or thousands of times you would need to use fabric bags to be equal with plastic's cheapness and ease of manufacturing. If plastic bags aren't banned, they are the easier and seemingly better choice if recycled.

    I use the same hair band until it snaps and then I give it to the cats. They love it and it lasts forever has a cat toy since they just carry it around and toss it up.
