Salamanders are an indicator of water quality because they are very sensitive to pollutants , the water might be red because good bacteria is breaking down leaves and other organics that fell into the tank and are releasing tannins during the process.
@@mayafeliz I think that iron would have altered the water PH and the Salamanders would have left the water tank before the rats left the Titanic. If there was salamanders in the tank It has to be something natural , algae perhaps.
I really appreciate how you talk about wearing your sunscreen. You're doing so wonderful, your videos are very relaxing. Thank you for doing all this hard work, and sharing it with us.
Excellent video! Great job! Ps. the Red water could be Microbes that have bred in the water, or could also be perhaps clay from being washed off the buildings or soil over the winter from rain perhaps? (Depends on what's immediate next to it..) But it might be an idea to get it tested make sure there's no nasties multiplying in the water if you're feeding it to fruit trees just incase it gets into the fruit 👍🏴🇬🇧
Hi there hard working lady. The red colour of the rain-water from your roof comes from red iron oxide blown up in dust storms over the Sahara and carried in rain droplets to fall on you. I live in a restored farm house in Ibiza and we get our white walls stained red by this same dust. This dust is carried right across the Atlantic and helps fertilize the crops on the American plains. Good luck with all of your projects.
It's such a pleasure to meet you on your property where you are working so hard, but always with a lovely smile. Keep up your great enthusiasm, Maya ❤❤❤
love the projects, perhaps a little more technical project worth tackling is a hydraulic ram pump ? A bit noisy but it would slowly boost water from the river up to almost any height, even to the house/pond?
❤ Alles Liebe!
Hi Maya for that green lumber of yours you can easily find a moisture meter to tell you the percent moisture content. You can also find tables online that tell the acceptable range of moisture for using the lumber for construction. For indoors a common desirable range is centered around 7 or 8 percent. A percent or two either way is ok for many species. But, do look it up for what you bought. I'm glad you got that lumber stickered. That's the term used in the USA. The little scrap pieces you stack on are the stickers. Good luck!
Hi Maya! I just found your channel and love it. You have a beautiful piece of property. I think I’ll relax and enjoy my afternoon watching your videos🙂
I was going to suggest digging in the river or creek to create a swimming hole. I am glad to see you already have one! Best of luck with your continued progress.
Wow, I have watched a lot of gardening this week! I bought land near to this, also with a ruin and an old water mill, but all the Gardening puts me off :D
Glad to see you again Maya! Andddd back at it again too 😆You have quite the energy. Oh I've been wanting to tell you... You seem to breathe a lot of dust and stuff. Quick tip/hack - put a shirt on your nose and use the sleeves to tie a knot on the back of your head. Protect your lungs. And yeah... That may cause more heat and poor breathing but... It's something. You'll also look like a ninja! You´re welcome 😆Another thing... If you can, store allll the green cuttings and food scraps because those can be used to fertilize plants/trees. Don't know if you've ever heard of Compost. You store the dead organic stuff, let it decompose for some time and then use it on the soil to provide food for the plants. It's not only about watering them, it's also about feeding them (it's also about a lot of other stuff but.. baby steps). I would actually use water from the river instead of that tank water. Anyways, very glad to see you! 😄
Usually, red water like this is caused by algaes or yeast that likes to grow in high temp water. Here in Spain it appears a lot in ponds or water deposits with a low level of water... the sun is able to heat all the water mass included the bottom because of the low water level and the increased temperatures promote the growth of that algae/yeast instead the green ones, increasing the water level to make the sun unable to penetrate will solve it if is an algae problem. If is some kind of kind of coloration due to some kind of red clay soil, etc. then it will not. As other coments said, salamanders are good indicator of water quality so I don't think the colour comes from iron or other pollution
Just a little hint there are wheel barrels the have 2 wheels on front it is a game changer if you can get your hands on one down there. Love your videos.
I have just been binging on your videos on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I am so impressed by your enthusiasm and your hard work. If I could offer a little advice, maybe you should get a quad bike with a trailer so that you can move your stuff around more easily. Anyway, good luck, I shall continue to watch your videos with interest. From Mike in North Derbyshire, England.😊👍
you have a great outdoor kitchen there with that brick pizza oven- you should organize that space so you can use it. What are your plans with the other buildings? Maybe you will build an outhouse with your wood?
Erstaunlich was du alleine als Frau schaffst. Handwerklich sowie auch in der Landschaft. Weiter so und ich hoffe da kommen noch einige Videos. Grüsse aus Germany
I would love to have the same life already! At the moment looking for a land. Is is expensive to buy in Portugal ? I live in Spain and it’s quite pricey and most of the lands are rustic so It’s not possible to build. One tip for you - the wood for the fireplace, be careful what you burn. Your wood look like it has some fungus on and this is extremely dangerous for your health. Don’t burn it.
maya you make good interesting videos 🍀🌻 I wish to tell you not to get sun-damage on your fair skin OMG -for starters ALWAYS wear the BIG STRAW SUN HATS -they are typically 38 x 43 cm -they are very popular-they let the breeze flow through and work well also in the rain- ty
Maya the water ir red because of algae. Don't cut mimosas tree, if you want to kill them you need to peal the bark, if you cut they will grow again and again, it never ends.
You have been working hard to keep the land in shape on this stay so far. Are you building another shed or cabin? Maybe the red colour is from dead leaf mulch etc as someone suggested or maybe a red clay in the soil somewhere it is draining through? Enjoy your family trip and see you again soon in June.
Absolutely inspirational and real video quality. I love your enthusiasm, going to have to subscribe to see your future progress. Thank you for sharing your experience with the world.
I hope all is well with your family Maya- I look forward to seeing you back in June. Mmmm wondering what your building project is to be. Best of Luck and take care. Hilary xx
If I had to describe the episode or the person in just one word, I would say 'natural'. Everything is so real, it almost feels like unreal. Seeing a grown up that kept the child within, gives me a lot of joy. And confidence in the future. Something else I admire: keeping the bikini-scenes well directed. Personally I cannot see enough rubber boots, sluggy pants, unflattering shots of you. That's where the beauty is, I think.
unflattering shots? you just mentioned natural and now you talk about unflattering? There is nothing unflattering about a hard-working person dressed for the job and getting dirty. Unflattering is your comment!
also if I may plz n ty -if a girl named Isa from Switzerland who lived at the barn in Strawberry Park in steamboat springs in the mid-1980s-she sold me some of her pottery because she needed the money -I wish to tell her it is still perfect even with running through the dishwasher everyday!!!
LITTLE FRIEND, FOLLOW 1 ADVICE FROM 1 OLD MAN! KEEP 1 SAFETY MARGIN AROUND THE HOUSE! THE FIRE SEASON IS COMING, THERE ARE A LOT OF FUEL LOAD AROUND. HUGS
New sub! Isabel Paige's channel is similar to this one. Interesting to watch people homesteading and enjoying this lifestyle. Could the red water be due to oxidation runoff from the rock wall above the pond? Thanks for sharing.
Lovely! I really enjoy how you are filming this and the authenticity you bring to your project. What kind of editing program do you use to make your videos?
Hola Maya, we had the same thing happening to us in Spain. If it’s well water it might just be high on iron. But it might also be serratia marcescens bacteria, which is not completely safe for humans, so better not be drinking this or showering with it. Once established in the human organism it’s hard to get rid of and can cause infections. For watering plants though it seems to be okay. All the best!
Thank you for the video! Amazing & peacefull as always :) Do not hesitate to use brush cutter nylon string on grass instead of blades, it will save you some hours of work with a better result ! :) Cheers!

Where have you gone Maya?
I really appreciate how you talk about wearing your sunscreen. You're doing so wonderful, your videos are very relaxing. Thank you for doing all this hard work, and sharing it with us.
Try to get rid of the mimosas (and eucalyptus), they are a high risk of bush fire and grow really fast. They are invasive too.
Maya, this is Rosy, from Texas, it's so nice to see you work, in your property, some day it's going to be beautiful
The joys of a simple life make the mind and heart happy!
Even we don’t know eachother…I am very proud of you what you all can do and you learn a lot with this project. Grüsse from Holland.
always with a happy face Maya, you live in a beautiful part of this world we live in
You are so beautiful and sweet!! I love the Jerman accent!!! You are such a positive uplifting person!!!❤😎🙏🏕
I love that every clip starts with you saying "yay!" "woohoo!" Or something to that effect. Your videos are so fun and peaceful ❤

Maya, you are such a beautiful soul! I love watching you:)

how many akers is your propperty and how much did it cost just wondering about what land costs in spain.
❤❤❤
Red water maybe rusted metal piping, or terracotta pipes stain, or algae bloom 😊
Or the last option: a lot of iron in the water at the source, but then that should be visible at the source as well. Idk if that's the case
Thanks for the tip, it is just rain water, so probably it developed from the tank or some bacteria 🤗

The red water might be iron from the earth in the area. Id the soil around you mostly redish?
Maybe red mold in that water? Idk
