Tom is such an amazing character **because** he shows his vulnerability! “Take it like a man” is a very Roy thing to do, and normally I think he would try to do that, but he hit his limit. His vulnerability is a main difference between him and the Roys. He has business smarts and ambitions and can be an asshole too, but is also a deeply feeling character. Accept him for who he is, Jaby! Haha, thanks for continuing this series, y’all!
Shiv is not underestimated. She’s simply not an employee of Waystar.

You're right about Cyd (the lady at ATN) she's been there for a while and it's funny because while most people root for Tom, people at the company probably just see him as a nepo baby because he's married to Shiv Roy.
The siblings being a good team but never quite being able to make it work because of that sense of competition Logan always instilled in them is basically one of the core themes of the show IMO.
Roman doesn't look at her as a threat right now because she's still out of the company and with politics and Tom is doing ATN now
I love your insights into Tom and Shiv's last conversation. I absolutely think Shiv felt isolated and could only talk with her husband, and I think Tom was absolutely in that tug a war of wanting to be supportive while desperately wanting what she has.
Kendall is a machine this season. This is the season that made me love him.

For the hundredth time mentioning Tom is the most interesting character in this show. They are all cool, but Tom has the best character development from the start to the end. Keep watching him closely guys.

Shiv doesn't work at atn. Tom, Kendall and Roman do. Ive always assumed thats why they don't look at her as being in "the running ".

Only Tom works at ATN. Ken and Roman are COOs of Waystar, which has ATN, Brightstar and Theme Parks.

Tom knows about waystar secrets that could be exposed and if shiv took over, she would take the fall. That's another reason he is concerned.

The reason Logan calls Shiv "Pinky" is because she's his 4th child (corresponding to the 4th finger).
Tom should fired back at Roman, telling Shiv to F Off was the right thing but it was a show of weakness by being a half measure.

I don't think he has business instincts. Vaulter is a tech business with a lot of data. It had a future.
Roman advised Logan to shut the company down because of pettiness, and in the end, Waystar was sold to a tech company.
@@kassiogomes8498 there is pettiness but Unions are a headache for something they've already overpaid and if you watched it, Vaulter was just a lot of bs. They wanted to drown Kendall on data because the data is bs and were hoping Kendall doesn't have the patience to actually go thru all of them. This was in the proxy battle thing with Stewy, and also Matsson brought up the Vaulter thing with Kendall in s4 because it was a bad acquisition. GoJo also lowkey bs with their figures but they had real money. Hence, the buyout
@@cammy11 Vaulter is everything Waystar isn't: it's a modern. The problem with Waystar is that they are an old media company.
In this day and age, where data is everything, what kind of company would just shut down its tech subsidiary because of unions?

Tom getting angry at the dinner scene is also interesting when considering Tabitha, and how she had just made a joke to him about that time on his bachelor party that Tom had sexual relations with her. Tom is still trying to find a way to not be hurt by Shiv's open relationship idea, and we and he get a reminder that Tom literally cheated on Shiv, but he doesn't want to acknowledge that in terms of his role in the relationship. So some of his anger at dinner was even him lashing out at the world's valid criticisms of his actions.
Didn't he get Shiv's consent to do it for his bachelor party?

@@kvm6 I don't recall that detail. Nevertheless Tom was only told about the open relationship setup when he found out about Nate, prompting Shiv to propose it on their wedding night. He was ambushed and coerced into acceptance

@@kvm6 Oh I remember now, thanks. But I just checked the transcript and the open relationship didn't come up in that conversation. It's just Shiv handing Tom the prenup and asked/forced him to have a lawyer review it (he was so happy that he was ready to sign it right there). If my memory is correct, his mother who is a well known lawyer looked at it and commented that it's a bit harsh, but nothing else. Based on that and his reaction on the wedding night I don't think there's anything about open relationship in there. Also do prenups even deal with the nature of the couple's relationship? Afaik it only outlines how properties and assets will be dealt with in the event of their relationship ending in separation or divorce.
I do agree that Tom's proposal was a bit disingenuous and probably him taking advantage of a stressful situation. But that's not much compared to the wedding night proposal when everything (marriage registration, reception, vows, party, etc) is basically pretty much done and there's no backtracking. Basically altering the whole nature of the relationship at the last moment also severely undermines trust which is one of, if not the most, important thing in a marriage. And Shiv likely wouldn't even have touched the subject and continued cheating behind his back if Tom hadn't confronted her.

There's a bit of a difference when you do it out of insecurity rather than out of sociopathy, that's why everyone seems to have much more empathy and sympathy for Tom compared to the siblings. Of course, it might not matter to the one being insulted, but it could - and I think should - matter to the audience who sees the full picture.

I'm saying the reason why THE VIEWERS have more empathy and sympathy for Tom as a character is because it comes from a place of insecurity and low self-esteem, compared to the siblings who insult people out of narcissism and sociopathy.
@@magnuskarlsson8655 Siblings and Tom do the same thing. Tom literally reprimands Greg for his shoes and food habits in early season1. That too in front of unknown office people. In this episode Tom was made fun of in front of family.
