    Fun Fact: The alternate ending Ryan talked about was Steven Spielberg's version of the movie which he was supposed to direct before Nolan took it over. I read the original story too and it was equally mind-blowing.

    About the last scene. His daughter sends him away with the line "No parent should watch their kids die", I think that makes sense to send him away quickly.

      @chanceneck8072 , it's from the 1993 movie, Dazed and Confused. Matthew McConaughey's character says, "alright, alright, alright". It was a very much quoted phrase ever since. And eventually a meme.
      Edit: Pitch Guy says, "alright?"

    Matt Damon was perfect casting in 2014 for that crucial role. Because the character after his initial dethawing immediately starts saying questionable, sketchy things that had an unknown been in the part, we wouldve become suspicious right away, but because its Damon who at this point in his career, had built up inherent trust with the audience. So, when the character keeps having flimsy answers to the point of alarm bells going off, we dismiss it because its Matty. The fact his casting was hidden plays into this also because the as an audience, we are buzzing early on that he drops in at the middle of the movie so that blinds us to the red flags of his nifarious intentions. It was a gut punch double shock twist for him to first cameo out the blue, then be the heavy. Still fun to remember the goodwill applause he garnered when he was revealed and then when the crowd turned on him, one guy yelling, 'F*ck you, Matt Damon!' and yes, dude got a huge laugh.

    I will defend the ending of the Dark Knight. The reason why Joker was never blamed was because there was no evidence to support he committed those murders that Dent did. Plus, at the time Dent died, Joker was on the other side of the city and in custody. Evidence would support that Dent died after Joker was captured, so he couldn’t be blamed for the death.
    Something had to be done quickly and Batman made a decision on the spot. And make no mistake Batman still caused Dent’s death, even though it was too save a child. He could have known that blaming someone else could potentially backfire, especially if they blamed Joker. So, the safest bet was to blame himself, as evidence would support he caused Dent to fall and having Gordon make it official would help the narrative stick enough for those to believe it.

  • @RaedViera
    @RaedViera ปีที่แล้ว +42

    Regarding The Dark Knight, my interpretation for him blaming himself for those murders was strategic. Joker made obvious for EVERYBODY that Batman's weakness was his unwillingness to kill. That's kind off the whole point of the movie, Joker punishing batman for not killing. So, by Batman saying that he did, keeps Dent's name clean while he makes Gotham's criminals believe that "Batman has no limits".

    • @orlandoparaskeva9398
      @orlandoparaskeva9398 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah but then he stopped being batman immediately after so why would his limits matter?

    • @HarryK-ld2ed
      @HarryK-ld2ed ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@orlandoparaskeva9398 The point was more about keeping Dent's name clean rather than showing the limits of Batman, or the lack thereof.

    • @WilliamButtlicker
      @WilliamButtlicker ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was pretty straightforward. Harvey was the white knight of Gotham and even if they told people that it was Joker who killed those policemen and Harvey, it would've only spread the fear of Joker more among the Gotham citizens if they told them he killed Harvey. No matter if he was caught or not.

    • @ashishhembrom3905
      @ashishhembrom3905 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HarryK-ld2edyea then so why didn't Gordon put all the blame on Joker so that both Dent and Batman would have clean sheets in the public eye instead of putting dirt on Batman for, you know, stopping the Joker? After all Joker was the one who orchestrated everything and was executing people publicly.

    There was a rerelease of all Nolan movies a week prior to release of Oppenheimer. I managed to watch all bid movies in theatres. N while 'The dark Knight' was the best movie of them all, interstellar was the best theatre experience for me! The way the seats shook upon rocket launch, the beautiful scenes of space, n the music pumping up my heartbeat in anxiety n thrill, n that climax that drove every single person out of 300 people sitting in cinema hall, this was the best theatre viewing experience out of all Nolan movies❤ Christopher Nolan is the greatest movie director alive. The last last scene after that brutal father daughter reunion death bed scene from hell bait and switch thinking the whole three hours we will be rewarded for our patience and enduring the daughters lifetime trauma seperated from her Daddy, but instead just one last gut punch trauma for the audience.
    Then we are sent to Space with Matthew who is on his way to Anne Hathaway to repopulate a new planet. Only we never saw her or Coop ever show a romantic turn in their relationship. Not one hint or inkling. She talks of another man shes madly in love with that we never see. Again, her powerful passionate speech about love we are expecting a big romantic payoff at the end between them. Nope. No scene of him landing, her wondering who this is, he walks out, she reacting happily to the sight of him, he grinning back at her and as they run at each other, a long pull away shot as we see them embrace in the distance. Credits.
    We were denied this emotional catharsis. Ironiclly, Matthew and Anne have amazing chemestry. This was a lay up. Yet, Nolan bricked this one easy last payoff piece to send us the audience out satisfied and furfilled, but instead frusterated, slightly depressed and emotionally blue-balled. Proving yet again, Nolan: AI.

    The double punch back to back two misfire last scenes of the picture is what kills all the goodwill of the first two hours and 45 minutes for then to just sandbag it twice and go right to credits leaving us with a terrible taste in our hearts and minds going back out into the world. One, having Murph and he not connecting like they had on her death bed. It doesnt help that they cast an elderly third actress for exactly one scene, the most crucial scene of the entire movie, and Matthew has to make it work with an old lady unknown to us till this very scene dying, old, sick. Its a gross miscalculation as we are so invested in the Matthew-Murph father-daughter dynamic and how his leaving we see crushes little girl Murph and the video log adult Murp heartbroken again and, by turn, dad is devestated too. So, we need a big warm reunion wirh them by end. Not somerthing logical and science accurate. We done got that for almost three hours. Speiberg understands this. Give us the feels. You had us take all the set up. Dont payoff with watching Unrecognizable Murph dying, Coop sent away past more kin he is further isolated from. Its too much, too unbearable. We the audience deserved to see an aged up Jessica C still with her health waiting out side on the farm run to embrace Coop who returns home and have the camera spin around three times, the second showing young Jessica C embracing Coop and third turn, young Murph holding Coop. Kind of make it a visual symbolic showing of Murph's soul that was years of abandonment getting restored instantly by reconnecting with her daddy and in a edited magic way so its with the actresses we are invested with and know. The ending we got was a snuff film the audience killing our heart. Brutal. Proving Nolan is an AI.

    • @nahliphen

      The writers aren't often the problem, it's executive and studio meddling that causes the bulk of the stupidity we see in movies. Ryan George (the creator and actor of Pitch Meeting) has specifically stated this in a recently published "Pitch Meeting: Revisited" episode.

      @@nahliphen half true..why do y'all try so hard to give a pass to these writers..all of Hollywood needs to be better but again not criticizing the writers and putting all da blame on studios is completely false and disingenuous..if that's da case the studios should also write the movies and cut out da writers completely if "it's the studios fought" for bad writing...no accountability has been taking by the writers or the people who support them..

    "Why did Batman have to take the fall" and "why not just blame the Joker?"
    How can you blame the Joker for the death of Harvey Dent when the Joker is already in custody when Harvey died? You completely missed the obvious and looked stupid. Thats what happens when you listen to a lot of honest trailers.
