I love wearing a uniform - whether it’s my school uniform, my air cadet uniform - I love it! The carefully ironed shirt, tying my tie, polishing my shoes, making sure my skirt is neat, blazer is clean etc etc etc it just makes me feel so proper I love it and I’m so glad I can grow up in a country where school uniforms are compulsory :)
Blazers and suit jackets have those decorative buttons on the sleeves, too. I'm not sure if these stories are true or not, but I've heard that the style started in Prussia because soldiers were always wiping their mouth or sweaty faces with their sleeves, and it made their uniforms look dirty. They added buttons so that it was uncomfortable to rub your face with the end of your sleeve. 本当かどうか分かりませんけどね By the way, if a suit jacket has functioning buttons on the sleeves, they're called "surgeon's cuffs," because doctors might need to roll up their sleeves during a house call.
I never heard about that story/theory about the cuff buttons, I always thought that they were originally functional but became only ornamental when jackets started getting produced in mass, because the only jackets I got with functioning buttons in the cuffs are tailor made or from a designer brand But it would be cool if the reason was to stop soldiers from wiping their mouths with their cuffs
I’m pretty sure they’re to help roll up your sleeves while still keeping it tight fitting. It’s right around the wrist but when you unbutton it it becomes looser and you can roll it up your arm. That seems like the most logical answer.
Here’s an extract from Wikipedia “Except on casual attire, shirt cuffs are generally divided down one edge and then fastened together, so they can let a hand through and then fit more snugly around the wrist.” But it also states “The buttons and buttonholes at the end of suit jacket sleeves are generally decorative and non-functional.”. I believe it originally started on shirts but they thought they looked good so they added them to jackets even though there was no functionality.
I thought they were for letting your hand pass through the sleeve but still being avle to be tightened. The only shirt I have wore had those buttons and they had that exact purpose: If the sleeve had the buttons closed, my hand couldn't pass(at least not without hurting myself), so I had to put it on with the buttons open and after my hand was out of the sleeve I could close the buttons and my sleeves fitted perfectly. I'm still wondering how no one here thought about that :/
@@omargerardolopez3294 You're talking about functional buttons on a shirt, I mean the decorative buttons on a suit jacket or like Onomappu's school uniform jacket. Those buttons are just sewn on the outside, they don't actually do anything
I wonder if your fabrics are smoother cause those uniforms look slick. Ours were itchy and scratchy. (One day I'll learn enough to reply in Japanese like the cool kids boohoo. I am humble n5 level)
@@rachelcookie321 not here in England😕 most people take French and spanish and many schools don’t have the option for Japanese. At least I got to learn spanish and mandarin though
I'm not JP, but I would think きつい (adj. intense ) in a western sense would be something like "What the heck?" or WTF. Or as what other comment said "it hurts" could also do. While キモい would straight up mean "disgusting".

Just discovered your channel today and I love it! Such a great way to show us all the details, thank you very much! 🙇🏻♀️ I’m from Eastern Europe, I went to a highschool that didn’t impose uniforms (most of them don’t). However, I did wear a uniform throughout primary school and gymnasium (first eight years of education). Mine was red tartan based (skirt and vest), all of us would wear white shirts, the boys would have black pants with their vests, and in the colder months we would have a dark earthy green blazer (mostly buttoned up, but the rules were not that strict, one could still have the vest showing). You just took me back to my childhood days… 🥲 We did have a school badge too, it was more like a metallic pin, not as pretty or detailed… but only the more authoritarian professors would scold you if you didn’t have it. I would have loved if there were more details and customs, like you just described - especially that name tag! We didn’t have a system that would recognize the school based upon the uniforms, but there weren’t many in the part of the neighbourhood I grew up in, so people did know which school I attended. It was also a very good one, at least in my days, the late 90s and early 2000s. Ah, such a great video, thank you again!
gakuran really looks nice and neat up close. i've only gone to schools with the catholic-style uniform but seeing students in gakuran i've always thought it makes them look more... dignified?
Okay, first I respect that you wore the girls uniform for educational purposes despite the sister situation. Second, I want to thank you about the second button on the gakuran to be given to a sweetheart. It was an information I didn't need but it would really help with a story I'm doing. So in a sense I thank you and keep up the good work.
This was a funny one 😂😂 Do children use this kind of uniform during whole year? I don't think I would have been able to use it in Brazil, it doesn't look like it maches with hot weather XD
Hey man, dunno if it's true but here in France we say sleeves buttons were introduced during Napoleon's campaigns to stop regular soldiers from using their sleeves to wipe off their runny noses during cold winter.
Would love it if my country's schools had uniforms like these. They look really classy(It's a tropical country though. So it'd be very sweaty to wear most days)
Oh gosh I can't just imagine how uncomfortable your neck would feel with a collared jacket over a collared shirt > < Interestingly the collar area is also where students over here in Ireland 'rebel', by unbuttoning it and in our case tying their tie messily. Our hair rules were less strict length and style wise but colour wise it had to be natural.
I’ve thrown my highschool(known as secondary school here) uniform out as it was really warm and sweat turns fabrics yellow so the uniform has become unusable :( but I kept my school badge. Everything is just as strict as it is here, no coloured hair, no permed hair etc etc. no facial hair for the guys and no skirts higher than 3 fingers above the knees 😅 Oh and everyone had to wear ties for our school so it had to be pulled all the way up 😬 You still fit so well into your highschool uniform! And thank you for sacrificing to show us how the girls’ uniform looks like

The moment i realized that I can understand your words without subtitles made me feel like a god.
Finally, a japanese that talk with japanese and putting subtitle instead. Like I appreciate if some Japanese youtuber like to speak in english (and that's an achievement) but I want to practice my listening 😂
He was also really easy to understand, was surprised at how much I could understand without the english subs
Japanese schools are so strict but damn all their students are super smart, fit and wear cool uniforms
I suddenly remember a scene from "Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou"
Yes those maniacs are hilarious 😂
Exactly what came to my mind 😂 I miss this show it was hilarious
Same 😂😂😂
That episode scene popped up in my head when I saw the thumbnail lmaooo
Hahahaha that's literally my favourite anime
“3 seconds before I gave my sister trauma” out of context hitoki
yabai...
LMAOOOOO
Japan is the best polite/kind/respectful/honest/wellbehave/very efficient/respectful/courageous/clean country in the world for me
Blazers and suit jackets have those decorative buttons on the sleeves, too.
本当かどうか分かりませんけどね
By the way, if a suit jacket has functioning buttons on the sleeves, they're called "surgeon's cuffs," because doctors might need to roll up their sleeves during a house call.
I never heard about that story/theory about the cuff buttons, I always thought that they were originally functional but became only ornamental when jackets started getting produced in mass, because the only jackets I got with functioning buttons in the cuffs are tailor made or from a designer brand
But it would be cool if the reason was to stop soldiers from wiping their mouths with their cuffs
Well n5 is better than nothing lol.
I’m not even N5 because my school teaches random stuff that doesn’t correlate with JLPT.
At least your school teaches Japanese
@@superman2957 I live in New Zealand and French and Japanese are the most popular languages to take at school so many school offer Japanese.
@@rachelcookie321 not here in England😕 most people take French and spanish and many schools don’t have the option for Japanese. At least I got to learn spanish and mandarin though
Your voice calms my mind I keep listening to your words even though I only understand some of the words
Honestly your sister took it a lot better than I thought she would. It wasn't キモい but きつい?
きつい could also mean cringe or something similar
@@しを-h2z Still better than kimoi tho
きつい is more like "it hurts" lmao
It sounded like きしょい to me
I'm not JP, but I would think きつい (adj. intense
) in a western sense would be something like "What the heck?" or WTF.
Or as what other comment said "it hurts" could also do.
While キモい would straight up mean "disgusting".

Dudeeee you're soooo cutee and funny thanks for show us this
Спасибо за субтитры!
Случайно нашла это видео, было очень интересно смотреть и слушать парня, хоть я и давным-давно закончила школу. Реакция сёстры забавная.)
Жиза, это лучшее что я видел
Eu também vim para aqui acidentalmente
Согласен, особенно забавны традиции. В школах, в которых учился я мне запомнилась только одна традиция - класса с 7ого бухать в школьных поездках. Я ее не одобряю, но понимаю, ибо нагрузка на учеников большая.
I want to say the Vietnamese subtitles are super duper hillarious, please keep him/her 😉 ! Thank you so much for putting so much effrorts in translating
Dziękuję Ci miły człowieku. Zawsze się ciekawiłam jak to mniej więcej wygląda A teraz już wiem. ありがと
hi! I love how you put japanese subtitles above the english subs, it makes it easier to learn so thank you! highly appreciated (:
Le agradezco a Un Poco De Todo por traerme aquí, además que chidos están los uniformes ^^
You just took me back to my childhood days… 🥲
We did have a school badge too, it was more like a metallic pin, not as pretty or detailed… but only the more authoritarian professors would scold you if you didn’t have it.
Ah, such a great video, thank you again!
gakuran really looks nice and neat up close. i've only gone to schools with the catholic-style uniform but seeing students in gakuran i've always thought it makes them look more... dignified?
He is living the life of an anime protagonist for sure (where his sister doesn’t talk to him for wearing her clothes)
Bro stfu
@@oni9180 why? He was just joking probably
japan isnt anime land and not everything about japan is anime 🤑
@@microcomets err
Okay, first I respect that you wore the girls uniform for educational purposes despite the sister situation. Second, I want to thank you about the second button on the gakuran to be given to a sweetheart. It was an information I didn't need but it would really help with a story I'm doing. So in a sense I thank you and keep up the good work.
"Well she probably won't speak to me for the next three days" 😂
This was a funny one 😂😂 Do children use this kind of uniform during whole year? I don't think I would have been able to use it in Brazil, it doesn't look like it maches with hot weather XD
In Summer, they usually don't wear the blazers and will wear short-sleeved shirts instead.
gakuran is part of the winter uniform and is worn during cold seasons, e.g. late autumn, winter and early spring
They have winter and summer uniforms
Aqui tem gente que nem vai de uniforme pra escola, quem dirá usar o ano todo um negócio quente desse....
@@VictorGabriel-gc2df estando com a blusa do Colégio e de calça jeans escura, tu faz o que quiser kkkkk
Hey man, dunno if it's true but here in France we say sleeves buttons were introduced during Napoleon's campaigns to stop regular soldiers from using their sleeves to wipe off their runny noses during cold winter.
Olha a quantidade de legenda, parabéns pra quem traduziu
SSIIMM muito brabo
Yess there is French subtitle
Sim , consegui entender tudinho 😁
Parabéns para quem traduzil
Só não entendo como prra vim parar em um vídeo de um japa

For some reason Japanese people always appear so serious to me! So to see you and your sister having fun and enjoy yourselves made my day! ☺️🤭
Interesting, have you been to Japan at all? 😌 Everyone usually says this to me but most of the craziest and most fun people I've met are Japanese.
Would love it if my country's schools had uniforms like these. They look really classy(It's a tropical country though. So it'd be very sweaty to wear most days)
I mean, there are summer ver though, the short sleeves.
I waited for this video!😆😂😂
It turned out great lmao, informative and funny
ありがとうございます!
I don't know why the algorithm has decided to show me your channel, but this was very educational, thank you!
The jacket looks really nice, especially unbuttoned at 1:50. Much better than the blazers i had at school
Lol I laughed when you said “I have to put it on for the sake of education”. Good video!
"Well, she probably won't speak to me for another 3 days"
I think it was worth it. Thank you for the educational video
日本の高校の制服がめっちゃかっこいい
Hitoki in a gakuran? I'm looking respectfully 👀😳
bruh i cant imagine waking up just to do this for online school
After watching too many anime I'm understanding Japanese without subtitles 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm impressed by myself.....
The sister reaction was on point. The exactly reaction expected in a situation like this
Oh gosh I can't just imagine how uncomfortable your neck would feel with a collared jacket over a collared shirt > <
Interestingly the collar area is also where students over here in Ireland 'rebel', by unbuttoning it and in our case tying their tie messily. Our hair rules were less strict length and style wise but colour wise it had to be natural.
THE BYE BYE AT THE END WAS SO CUTE SJJSJ
You have a great sense of humour dude. I love how you act out scenarios! Your school childhood seemed adventurous 😂
"Sometimes it takes a man to be best girl"
I’ve thrown my highschool(known as secondary school here) uniform out as it was really warm and sweat turns fabrics yellow so the uniform has become unusable :( but I kept my school badge.
Everything is just as strict as it is here, no coloured hair, no permed hair etc etc. no facial hair for the guys and no skirts higher than 3 fingers above the knees 😅
Oh and everyone had to wear ties for our school so it had to be pulled all the way up 😬
You still fit so well into your highschool uniform! And thank you for sacrificing to show us how the girls’ uniform looks like
this man is so entertaining i love him
Did you know that my life dream is to go to Japan, I love Japan so much😩💔
I love the girls uniforms it's so pretty
It's cute how all you gotta do is keep one of your buttons open to be a bad boy in Japan (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
Gente amei o canal, as legendas bem trabalhada, tudo perfeitinho e ele tem uma forma ótima de se expressar , bonito de se ver dá vontade de interagir.
I always found japanese uniforms so freaking cool...
Great Video!
When you wore the skirt, you reminded me of Gojou Satoru when he wore Nobara's skirt. xD
My school had a uniform but they weren't as strict about wearing it. I remember wearing Crocs or pyjamas for school 😅
อยากไปเรียยญี่ปุ่นจังน้า เห็นจากอนิเมะเวลาตายเราจะไปต่างโลกกัน🥺😆
