15:33 henning, one of the most iconic guitars nik huber makes, are in my opinions not the ones with the fancy tops (orca, rietbergen, dolphins), but the "plain" krautsters, which belongs to the most simple but yet best and uncompromised guitars you can ever get. and i think really this model has put nik huber guitars on the map to the wider public and is THE iconic Nik Huber guitar
I can see a nice aqua blue finish on #4. If you went with a semi-hollow build, you could have a dolphin shaped sound hole. I need to think for a bit on an ideal guitar.
EASILY option 4!!! The others are nice, have their interesting figuring - but 4 is incredible!!! You also don't get many 1piece Quilt maple tops at all....
I would immediately vote for the solid one piece quilt option- You are shooting blue on that, and with an aquatic aspect. That's going to look like the most lovely ocean imaginable!
Nik is one of the most impressive luthiers for bespoke guitars, and one to which I pay attention. Thank you for doing this project. ❤️ and I vote for Option 1 or 4 for blue, and 5 for Clear tint. I ❤️ Dolphins. My favorite top wood is Koa. I have never seen a grain that makes me smile more. Body Double cut design, like a Les Paul Double Cut, solid mahogany. Baritone scale. Neck through (preferred) or set neck but neck wood very dense like mahogany. Schaller Hannes bridge and locking tuners. Headstock matching body.
I would definetily go with number 1 and probably call it The Twin Indians or something like that. I clearly see two faces with war paintings at the sides looking at each other and you can't ignore that. It is so beautiful and unique. Cheers!
Definitely, number 4, the one piece quilted look! I'll never be able to afford such an instrument so it's not really up to me, but that's the one I'd pick!
OMG! All are gorgeous! My personal favorite would be no. 5 but in burgundy or crimson... Those flame patterns beg for evil music... 🔥🔥🔥. Henning you are a tease!! BTW nice hard rock song in the background! I am a big Oth fan 😊... Probably 4 would look insane with blue... 😞. I like wood too... 😂
I do not know about other tops, but from the top marked with a cross with the inscription Flipper, excellent jazz bass would come out of light orange color
If I'm choosing my dream spec guitar I would also go with the Dolphin to start with. I would chose a Black Limba body, and Poplar Burl top. Make it semi-hollow, but with no f- hole. I would have an L.R. Baggs fixed Piezo bridge, and a Silo humbucker in the bridge position. A Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen P-90 in the neck position. make it a stone gray satin finish, the neck would be a baked maple and wenge three ply affair, and 25.5 inch scale. I think a baked birds eye finger board would finish it off nicely.
#4 is the way to go, looks like flying over an ocean. Semi-hollow / chambered, no F-hole.. Names: Miami, Flippity, Clicks & Whistles, Bottlenose Looking forward to the next installment!
I like top number 3 and 5 a lot. If I would win the lottery and speck out my own Nik Huber model it would be a semi-hollow ORCA with one f-hole fretless bass guitar. For the body I would choose swamp ash with an maple top. For the neck I would think maybe of Bubinga (cause I like the open pore feel) or also maple for the attack. I'd love the finish to be in natural oil. The fretboard should be from Ebony or one of the new replacements with fret lines. For Pickups I would choose a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck position from bartolini. I'm not 100% sure if I would also like a piezo under the bridge.
Funnily enough, option 1 is my favorite. I love that "folded" look at the outer sides. Option 3 would be awesome as well, if it works out... Option 4... well, the fact that it's a one-piece top is nice, but other than that, it's a pretty quilt top. Not "weird" enough. Option 5 is pretty awesome as well, but as you said, it will turn out fairly dark with a blue color. So... yeah, I'd go for option 1.
what a fantastic video, thanks alot for that amazing workshop tour! my dream Nik Huber Guitar would be: Orca Super Hollow in Amber Burst, with a roasted maple Neck, ebony fretboard and maple binding, stainless steel frets, evertune bridge, HB on Bridge and P90 on the Back, yeah, something along these lines :-)
Option 4 is a lot like my Peavey Wolfgang in tobacco (non-burst). I highly prefer that one. I am REALLY looking forward to the rest of this series! EDIT: The name Daphne keeps coming to mind.
I like 3 & 4 the best. 3 because of the unusual patterns and I want to see how a master luthier will tackle this challenge. 4 because the turquoise blue color will make the top look like ripples in the caribbean ocean.
Henning, I'd definitely go for number 3. That pattern is really something very special. Never saw a top like this. For me number 4 is somehow the X. variation of something already known - like a beautiful melody you seem to have heard already somewhere else.
Well... that opening song sure is something.... probably won't be watching this channel again. I'm going to highly recommend it to my grandparents tho. They'll really like it
You could call it "Not Flipper", write "Flipper" with a bar over the top, which the way software guys say "not". I don't like the quilted top, I like all the rest. I've heard quilted maple is from the softer big leaf maple, I like flame hard maple. But I'm sure whatever you choose it's going to be fantastic.
#4 if you are going with blue or turquoise, #5 would be good natural or yellow because of the dark wood grain, #1 would be great in any colour. My 2 cents. 🤘 Looking forward to this guitar building journey. A video series building a guitar is pure genius. 🤘
I love my Hollowbody PRS guitars (HBii and 594 HBii) and think they can work for metal. Dave Grohl plays a hollowbody. I would go Rosewood neck, probably Orca style, Red colour (maybe Rosewood Burl top or Quilted Maple) burst with a natural back, perhaps semi-hollow with 1 F-hole as I have a couple of Hollowbody guitars and a solid 594 too, double humbucker with individual coil splits, Dolphin inlays (anything but dots/circles) locking tuners. Obviously not a matching headstock as the Rosewood would be all that's needed. Matching wood backplates so the disappear too. Part of the reason I would go this route is because of what I have already. The only semi-hollow I have is a PRS Special but having a 594 and 594 Hollowbody as well as a HBii with Piezo, would push me more towards a Semi-hollow Huber with a Rosewood neck, figured Mahogany natural back, Redwood burl OR Quilt Maple top (in red burst as ALL my guitars must be Red or have red like my special charcoal cherry burst) and HB's with individual coil splitting. The Orca was what first caught my attention from Huber guitars so that would probably be the basis for a custom order IF I had the opportunity to do so...
@@EytschPi42 Thank you Henning for always replying, you are the best youtuber for that. They all look amazing' ...but option 3 really hits you' ...continue with option 4 and make 'Flipper' and the 'cartoon' featured graphics ha ha' ...any options are going to be absolutely amazing' ...brilliant video, nice to see evolving perfection'
Oh deffinetellylelileliyli..... Option 5 hell yeah that top is so sick and if i would build my Hueber guitar it will be a dolphin with a "darker top" but painted white but kind of translucent white so that you could see the top through the white and deff a natural satin back/rosewood neck and a maple fingerboard :D yeah :D ..... yeah :D nice....oh two humbeckurs and wraparound bridge and who needs locking tuners anyway xD
So many guitar choices! So now I'm wondering, how do LP-style Nik Huber guitars compare (in terms of build quality, frets/action, etc.) to similar offerings from, say, Framus or Fujigen?
40:17 Will it be hollow, will it be solid? Here's what Nik said to me: Que sera sera, whatever will be will be, the future's not ours to see Que Sera Sera
Option 3 would be awesome if Nick could get it to work!!! But optinn 4 looks like waves for the dolphin to swim in and would look better with the dolphin, especially since you could make it look like a blue ocean.

AGREED!!!!
I (h)uber love this kind of videos!!!!!
Dophin ii - semi hollow
Flamed maple top - tiger eye finish
Rosewood neck - rosewood fretboard with silver ring inlays
2 humbuckers
Fixed bridge
I can see a nice aqua blue finish on #4. If you went with a semi-hollow build, you could have a dolphin shaped sound hole. I need to think for a bit on an ideal guitar.
I love the fourth one. Quilted maple and blue fits very well together.
It has to be no.3 , absolutely beautiful and original, mother nature at her best.
'Bout damn time Huber receive more attention! Known but underrated guitars. I'd have one over a PRS any day! Nice job Henning!
I'd go for number 3 - when there's a will, there's a way!
Did you continue this series? I can't find any further videos regarding this build...
Couldn't go back because of Covid, but it's happening
@@EytschPi42 that makes sense. I have no understanding of time anymore.
Definitely option 3 simply because it will have great definition 🤩
Number IV!!!! Beautiful..light purple into light turquoise (between a Mayones and a PRS) showing that beautiful wood
Semi hollow! DC style with a beautiful exotic top book matched or burlap... I think is the name... Satin finish... 🤤
No. 3 is the one that catched my eyes immediately!! I would go with the 3rd top!!
I really loved the super light Piet at gear street. Really need to get one of those!
No. 3 is lookin' like a gorgeous woman's torso!
I like your videos most when they are more about people than gear.... And this one is great
EASILY option 4!!!
The others are nice, have their interesting figuring - but 4 is incredible!!!
You also don't get many 1piece Quilt maple tops at all....
Glad to see you're up and moving around! I need a monster now!
Holy bandsaw Batman!
This is, by far, the best RX8 review Ive seen in the past 2 weeks! Keep up the good work! ;)
Update?
I would immediately vote for the solid one piece quilt option- You are shooting blue on that, and with an aquatic aspect. That's going to look like the most lovely ocean imaginable!

Number 3 with a Rosewood binding to hide the divot on the bottom. Then put a maple binding on the fretboard to get the contrast.
#3 is stunning.
#3 NOW! 🎶🎸👍
3 looks gorgeous. Nik seems up for the challenge.
Eagerley awaiting the next part. No.3 for me.
Awesome! I got to choose from 4 options over email since I live in the US.
I would go for Option 4 :) because it´s in my opinion an absolutely beauty for an spectacular awesome Guitar with a fitting Lighter Finish.
I would definetily go with number 1 and probably call it The Twin Indians or something like that. I clearly see two faces with war paintings at the sides looking at each other and you can't ignore that. It is so beautiful and unique. Cheers!
For blue, clearly number 4
My High School wood shop teacher would have a fit if he watched this
Unlike your teacher, Nick Isn’t missing any fingers 🤣
Poo Ninja yet👆🏻
I like No3 I hope it wins and will work! Good Luck
I love this!! What a cool process!!
Toll mal zu sehn wie's gemacht wird!
Danke.
Definitely, number 4, the one piece quilted look! I'll never be able to afford such an instrument so it's not really up to me, but that's the one I'd pick!
Number 3, route out the devit in the back in a square and fill it with a square block from off the same blank....unique
I would love to see an orca with a prs style faded denim top with an even darker blue back and neck. absolutely killer look IMO with gold hardware
amazing tops, i would go for 3
I do not know about other tops, but from the top marked with a cross with the inscription Flipper, excellent jazz bass would come out of light orange color
I just want a Krauster II like the one Daniel from that pedal show has....can´t get that one out of my dreams haha
Same here.

#4 one piece top 😍 If you want to represent Niks vision for guitars then go with that one
No. 4 one piece top. Nice and quilted!
The one thing I love about Option 3 is how the pattern reminds me of angel wings. Am I the only one who sees that?
3 for me! Thanx Henning!
#4 is the way to go, looks like flying over an ocean. Semi-hollow / chambered, no F-hole..
Names:
Miami, Flippity, Clicks & Whistles, Bottlenose
Looking forward to the next installment!
Geez... I wouldn’t mind having a guitar made with the wood he throws away!!!....Henning you are one lucky S.O.B..!!!!!
But the way Nick uses his planer is scaring me. Hope he keeps his fingers
I like top number 3 and 5 a lot.
If I would win the lottery and speck out my own Nik Huber model it would be a semi-hollow ORCA with one f-hole fretless bass guitar.

Orca Super Hollow in Amber Burst, with a roasted maple Neck, ebony fretboard and maple binding, stainless steel frets, evertune bridge, HB on Bridge and P90 on the Back, yeah, something along these lines :-)
Seymour Duncan P-Rail pickups and triple shot surrounds are the best if you want flexibility
I´d go with No.3...it´s very unique, a thing you not see every day

so you won’t be watching this channel again because some of the music is neo-prog?
I'm usually not a quilted maple top guy, more a flame one,but that would be totally option 4 in purple burst for me with a rosewood neck.
Solid body, option 3.
Orca '59 Top Option Number 4 no contest!!! Blue Whale. Rosewood neck must be crazy!!!
Cheers
5 looks kickass too, 3 or 5
Option 3 wäre meine Wahl!
Four for sure!
I'd pick N°5, quilted maple (N°4) is beautiful but it's everywhere already.
Option 3...definitely.
You could call it "Not Flipper", write "Flipper" with a bar over the top, which the way software guys say "not".

Man, personally I'm torn between 3 or 4. 3 stands out for its uniqueness, and 4 for the outstanding beauty of that quilt goodness.
Try #3 to see if it’s workable, would be beautiful in blue!
3 and 4 would be really really nice but I think 3 would be more rare looking? Maybe?
Awesome 🤘
when do we get an update on the progress on this guitar?
I haven’t had a chance to go back yet

#4.....dark transparent red, gold hardware....classy all the way! Roasted maple fretboard.

Option one looks like it has faces on the outside of each side looking in. 3 would be my pick. Followed by 1 then 4.
option 3 ofc ;)

Option 3, 👌
Number 3 has my vote. By far!
I'd like a Krautster II in Baby blue and block inlays... one can only dream
40:17 Will it be hollow, will it be solid? Here's what Nik said to me: Que sera sera, whatever will be will be, the future's not ours to see
Que Sera Sera
27k pieces of abalone jigsaw puzzle inlay, What option is that?
Ok maybe 4, but you’ll have to live with it so I’ll say let Leslie choose!
Option 3 would be awesome if Nick could get it to work!!! But optinn 4 looks like waves for the dolphin to swim in and would look better with the dolphin, especially since you could make it look like a blue ocean.
Option 3.
All quilted tops look like fluffy toys to me.
Call it "Willy".
Oh Henning, Krautster II in that amazing semi metallic Red, with a slighty thinner neck that the fat one I have played... Block inlays, side dots...
Oh yeh, top choice... Option 4 for me....
Make 3 work For the top by moving it up, and use 5 for the Back! So it should be hollow dolphin 😉🤟💜👍
3-4 both are fantastic wakandan art
You could call number 3 "the V-jayjay"... But #4 is the keeper for me.
Option 4...1 piece all the way!!!!
Option 3
