As kind of a perfectionist sometimes i love how clean the routing on the inside is. And the reason "I like it!" is amazing. There is just something magic about people who love what they do and that projects into their work!
My old back would love a honey comb chambered single cut. I look forward to seeing, and hearing, the finished guitar.
From what I know wood "Directly does not make a acoustic difference" the difference is how dense/hard the wood is, and how hold the polls/harware/bridge of a guitar, (basically contact of the harware with the wood) that will allow the strings to resonate better, similar idea to decoupling speakers, a good rigid decoupler will not suck the energy from the speaker allowing the speaker to perform better, so first of all is physics, how the polls/harware bridges helps the string to resonate better because of the contact of the wood, sameway a good bridge will help the string too. and this can be prove even from the same piece of wood, each part of the wood have different mass and if you make 2 guitars from the same piece of wood, both will sound different in certain degrees.
;"Tone-wood" for me was always about what it subtracts, after first noticing the "softer" attack of some "poor quality" Agathis bodied guitars,...and yes nothing to add to all of your correct analysis,... but yeah its about what individual pieces of wood subtract. Owning 60+ guitars helps with the R&D,...I will never expect anyone to get to this understanding without having this rare and excessive:) opportunity to nerd out in such extravagance:) (My only tip would be to own and play extensively 2-3 dozen strats with all the new forms of cheap import wood all the way up to the "good stuff")
Yeah, I think I'm with Glenn when I say that (imho.) tonewood doesn't really exist - for electric guitars that is.
Glen is only talking about chuggy high gain sounds. In that respect he may be right about tonewood.
With the amount of fuzz they make about the inlays they’ll probably going to be Glenn’s face. Each one with a different facial expression and made with an uncanny amount of detail 😄

Just done with the tonewood section. In my opinion, and I think that's similar to Glenn's 'teachings' the wood can make a massive difference when unplugged or you can hear the 'unplugged tone/sound' of a specific guitar while playing amplified. That's the difference for the player in the room. There totally is a difference. To some degree this might have an influence on the amplified tone as well, but -and that's what Glenn says - if recorded, played back and compared A to B the difference is negligible.
So tonewood FOR ME doesn't matter at all but I understand if and why it can for other people. It affects the players' feelings and therfore also the way he plays and ultimately sounds.

Depends on the HB. A 10H Duncan Custom Custom with Carbon Steel screws will sound much darker than a 2.8H Wilde L500C with 440 Stainless blades with the same pots and cable into the sample input Z.

I finally found it! I knew I'd seen that honeycomb chambering before. Newman guitars have been doing it for decades but they're flat top so haven't got the internal chambering in the carvery top 🙂

Poplar is popular and going to be more popular. I like poplar. I love it. Two of my favorite guitars have bodies made of poplar.
I think Glen is right for his type of music because the most harmonics are added by the amplifier distortion. Therefore the amplifier adds new frequencies and covers the characteristics of the clean signal and the pickups frequency response. So the conclusion Glen draws is right from a signaltheory of view but only for high gain/distortion applications.
If you play clean or edge of break up (I know Glen hates it ;) ). The tonal shaping from the pickups and other factors are coming through. But I doubt that tonewood makes something up here. On the other hand the pickups become a prominent factor.
Finally someone actually gets the tonewood debate. All materials have different weight and density. All will sound and feel slightly different. Doesnt matter if its epoxy, wood or anything else
The honeycomb routing looks cool - but doesn't the honey drip out of the jack socket?

That makes me want to see something like a hollowbody but with some of those honeycomb holes in some sort of neat pattern instead of traditional f holes.
Ben of crimson guitars did something like that on his cyberpunk guitar.
Put light schellac in those holes, it makes a difference.

Why not a push/push tone pot in the front, having a little limba knob. The pot could be wired to adjust tone only in the up position, or in both (up and down). The top of the knob is in the down position flush with the body surface, but if needed just push and it will raise 3 mm, just enough to adjust. Then push it in and it disappears. 😊
Sound transmission through a medium is modified by the levels of density and stiffness of that medium. Even the worst scientist can successfully make an instrument although with less consistency in quality - perhaps less than is necessary to remain in business. Ranges in qualities within a species of tree is less important than the qualities influencing the two properties themselves. Species ae typically identified by appearance -which is not a reliable indicator of the presence of the two properties - even though, generally, the range of qualities has bee traditionally associated with species.

Which kind of mahogany? Aren't there something like 2,000 species of mahogany or more? :0) Anyway, I agree that all components affect the sound of an electric guitar. I love how hollow body guitars sound and feel. I own more hollow body guitars than solid bodies.
The IWDB recently chaged the average weight of African Mahog to much less than Hondorous. Those are the two most popular for guitar use. Wood density generally depends on how high on the tree it's from.

this isn't a normal build... we waited until we all had time to continue documenting this. it's not just about building the guitar, but also about getting together and filming it.
And it will cost WAY more than an arm and a leg.

Yes it's used for soil but it equally could be applied to wood.
Where a wine grows effects the grapes, different types of soil affect the wine differently. But it isn't just the soil, its also the sunlight, the wind etc.
Equally a tree is not static it buckles and bends in the wind, it also this has a terroir.
This why fine vintenernes blend wine together to support and enhance certain features of the wine and equally you can achieve the same goal through modifying the wood or but bonding it with other wood. You can also modify its tone by similar techniques.
The interesting question is can an AI such as GPT4 which apparently is artificial general intelligence learn from the sound of the wood just as a luthier might. The difference that an AI might have a series of recipes that it can apply. A similar application by the Italian company Ik. It offeres to tune a room with noise from a external source but in this case it would be shaping the wood body either by creating voids within the wood body by drilling out the wood but also adding in extra materials to change the capabilities of the body. Image a sword Smith shaping a sword by folding in different types of metal and the repeated folding to create a sword that is ultra sharp at the edge due to the many layers of steel in alignment giving it a hard edge whilist it core remains ductile, which means the shock wave of the edge hitting an object is not transmitted to the holder of the sword.
Oh and I saw people doing a similar trick on the guitar building courses at my school some 45 years ago
