As an Aussie, Fender is more than an American icon, it is a world icon that we all owe gratitude to for the great guitars that have played the great songs since the 1950’s. When it ain’t broken don’t fix it. Amazing that Leo Fender nailed it at the beginning. Great video O Captain! My Captain!
As an Aussie... 'meh'. Do Fender make great products - yes, absolutely. But it really does get annoying at times listening to Americans insisting that the MIA models are for whatever reason going to be better quality than something made in any other country because... why? Because as a company they don't insist on the same or a higher level of standard of the employees they take on in other factories? There's no rational reason why the other countries and factories can't produce exactly the same (or better) quality and QCd products as the ones that have a MIA stamp on them so just why?
If I pick up an MIJ, MIM, hell, even an MII model that I think works for me, I really don't care about that detail, whereas Americans often become obsessive about it - without reasonable, rational explanation as to why one finished product is better in workmanship, where if you shipped the same components to be put together elsewhere, that could just as well be done.
@@tjsr yeah i get sick of MIA so good, i own several MIM teles and strats and they are fantastic. they should have a stamp saying made by people.
@@tjsr Not all Americans think MIA models are better. Dont generalize.
@@tjsr It's just patriotic pride. Don't look too much into it. Of course we say made in America is the best, because we are Americans. And Fender is an American company. We will always prefer made in America because we want our nation to thrive.
Personally I don't mind products being made other places, as long as those places are our friends. Like Japan for example.
@@vhfgamer You have to claim that the MIA quality is higher in order to justify the price. Of course, the price is higher primarily due to the higher labor cost of domestic manufacturing, but most people don't think about that. If you really wanted your nation to thrive then the only justification you'd need is that domestic manufacturing keeps Americans employed.
Just about the best Fender advert they could make

and even then I got about 9 fender ads while watching this.
Pete's purple Tele is the best Fender avdert in modern times. I've SO been on the fence of buying a Tele, even though I'm a Gibson kinda guy
Definitely not. I’m actually regretting buying my MIA fender now

I'm the dork at 47:04! Hey Captain! :)
Hell yeah :) You still work at Fender?
props to the workers we forget about in the factory
You certainly end up having a much greater appreciation of the work that goes into making these iconic guitars if you didn't before watching this video. I now feel that my brand new American Professional II Stratocaster is, perhaps, not quite so overpriced as many would seem to think. Great to see Lee's child-like enthusiasm and it's got to be one of the best factory tours on youtube.

The relicing area is his version of the Everlasting Gobstopper lol
Looks like Fender appreciates is craftsman, it’s heritage.
Gibson appreciates its stockholders.
I hope to order/own a custom shop model one day.
I like fender a lot ... it that’s not an accurate assessment. Example: Gibson hand rolls every neck and Fender just does it for their custom shop stuff. I think both brands are heritage brands who are trying to balance their storied history with modern innovation and cost-effective factory efficiency

I've gained a whole new appreciation for Fender watching this, and Lee's enthusiasm is infectious! Makes even more proud to play Fender!
The captain in corona... wow, this has a whole new meaning 7 months later!
Retired tool- and die-maker here. This is a great video that shows the intersection of art and manufacturing. Imagine being able to tell someone, "I make Fender guitars." Also cool is all the original machines from Leo's days alongside modern CNC machines. That old Bridgeport mill stands as a monument in the center of the shop, as it should. I cranked the handles on them for many, many years. Good times...
You gotta luv the 'stolen Strat' on the wall in the intro, too.
Yep, that Bridgeport made me sigh too...!
Yeah, I noticed he called it an “old drill press”. Haha
Hello, please can you tell me where Fender gets the metal from to make its parts?
Fender the most iconic guitars ever made. There are no other guitars that have that special sound, something so magical about those guitars.
Practically all the other guitar companies have copied Fender except Gibson guitar company.
Fender & Gibson are the originals. No others can touch them.
Brilliant artisans of guitar builders. 10 out of 10
Thank you Andertons for the best content ever! You guys keep us so well informed and up to speed! It is one thing to have cameras and access to these amazing instrument builders but you have to capture it with love and passion. That's exactly what the Captain and his squad are doing. Giving a soul and personality to the vids being released for our pleasure. I'm in Canada and I've seen many retailers trying to find a niche on social media and they just don't get it! They forget that we are humans and that the product has to be seen, touched, played and critiqued by someone we trust in order to have empathy for what is being shown to us. This person we trust becomes the prism we adhere and come back to and kudos to the Captain and his team for being successful at doing so. God love you guys! I will not name everyone as I would be so afraid to forget someone but you are ALL so important to us. The humour, the fun, the honesty (yes honesty) dials up our attention. I know, I know, you are selling us stuff. We all know that! But I've heard all of you sharing positive AND negative comments in regards to new or old gear. I swear you guys! If there is a University level marketing course for social media somewhere on this crazy planet, you should hold the chair for it. Brilliant work guys and keep it coming. Literally within two seconds of being introduced, they both have a smile as wide as all outside and the handshake turns into a very sincere embrace. I’ve seen Ron in other videos and he strikes me, like Lee, as a guy who wakes up every day and remembers what he does for a living and is filled with such disbelief and gratitude that he gets paid to build guitars AND express his own creativity AT FENDER. This was so amazing to see! As someone who designs manufacturing components for a living I can really appreciate this tour and the skill the employees have. And now I really want a custom shop bass 😄
This is heaven on earth.
I absolutely love the fact that some of the machines date back to the beginning of Fender. Think of all of the wonderful music that has been created from the guitars built from those old machines. I hope those folks who work with them realize what an honor that is. I bet they do. Very cool. The Captain was like a kid in a candy store.
I have a feeling a visit to Gibson might have a little different vibe, it's a shame because both companies are so historically important but only one currently seems to have it's act together, great video!

@@mcdingus5081 No way! I did not, wow
@@ClappedBimmers It's a strange arrangement, but the Gretsch family owns the company- and Fender produces, markets, and distributes the guitars. Would love to make it out there one day. I toured the Gibson Memphis while traveling for work. I'm glad I got the chance, since it is now closed. Like with Fender, I was surprised at how hands on it was, even though they were only doing semi hollows. You can understand why they aren't giving them away. Much time and effort goes into building a quality guitar.
My favorite Andertons video of all time by far. Thanks so much.
Well this surprised me quite a bit.
When you see other companies (i.e. PRS or Keisel) factory tours, its easy to get the sense that they have the whole hand made instruments by "skilled craftsmen" thing locked down. I had the sense that Fender became increasingly automated over the years...ever since the 50's. But the surprising truth is that a mega huge company like Fender is their equal in every way that matters. Yes, its primarily production line processes which necessitates every person involved being proficient and consistent, but I dont see that as bad thing. Neither did Henry Ford. ..and with Fenders numbers, its the only way they can meet demand.
If you wanted to spend "PRS money" on a guitar, a Fender Master Builder would easily exceed expectations and produce a spectacular boutique instrument equaling anything else in the world.
Bottom line is that whatever your needs and budget, Fender has you well covered.
Great video. Thanks for inspiring my complete re-think of the Fender brand.
It made me completely rethink the Fender brand too. Now I wish they would start making set neck guitars too.
Schecter, PRS, Suhr.. and so on are less than half the price of the equivalent Fender products. Some of these Masterbuilt Fenders will cost you over $20k.
@@tdunster2011 sure, some are crazy expensive, and yes equivalent fender models are more expensive when looking at their standard mass produced guitars. But at the high end range (not ultra high like 20k, we're talking 4-6k) Fender is great. I think his point is that you could spend 5k at Fender and get something just as great as if you spent 5k at PRS.
Fender is making some of the best guitars they have ever made now. I have several which made this film special. I had no idea there was so much hand craftsmanship in making the current line. I hope Leo Fender has one of the best seats in heaven. His efforts led to so much great music enjoyed by people around the globe for over 70 years.
Great tour and stories. The only problem with Lee is that he often appears to not really be listening to his interlocutor; so many opportunities for good follow up questions are missed because he already knows the next question that HE wants to ask. Pretty minor issue. And I'm very grateful that he undertook this tour and gave all of us such wonderful insights and information.

I think the "Fender USA" is also handmade in Mexico!! Viva la comunidad latina!!
@MI 6 You are entitled to your own opinion, but made in Mexico Fenders are among the best bang for your buck in the guitar world. For half a grand, you get a budget guitar that goes toe to toe with American counterparts that cost double or triple.
99.9% of the planet population would not be able to tell the difference in a blind test. And 9 out of 10 of Fender owners would probably not single out an American made instrument in a blind test of several instruments.
Modern MIM Fenders are, in short, incredible instruments for their price range, and you get more for your 500 dollars than in most other brands. I have a new American Professional Strat, and a MIM Telecaster which I love, and while I DID want an American made Strat just because I fancied it, the diminishing returns are more than noticeable.
The differences in quality and components, perhaps, are NOT worth the price difference. Current Player series are arguably same or better than American made Performer series instruments, and some buyers get those because of the pups, or the smaller headstock.
MIM Fenders are solid options, not just intro or budget ones.

Thank you Fender and Andertons for this beautiful in depth factory tour! 👌🏻
Awesome content by Andertons and product from Fender! Would love to see an insight on Ibanez factory next!
There's no such thing. Japanese guitars are mostly made in Fujigen (which's main business is making wooden panels for luxury cars), Indonesian are made in Cort and WMIs (which makes 30 other brands). Similar story with Chinese. Pedals are made by Maxxon. Maybe they mostly own the Premium factory in Indonesia that was seeded with Fujigen luthiers teaching locals the stuff. Custom shop in LA is hardly a factory, more like assembly shop, although they make some parts by themself. Ibanez is just a brand name. And I'm saying it as an absolute Ibanez fan.
@@mlusiak that facts makes Ibanez much more intriguing! ESP has their own factory but Ibanez comes up with alot of innovative products (Edge Zero, ZPS, Wizard necks, dyna mix10 system just to name a few!) and still retain high craftsmanship!
What about their J.Custom series? Is it made in Fujigen too?
@@sarjanAbong Ibanez craftsmanship isn't what it used to be unfortunately. I have a RG652AHFMX from three years ago which was / is the starting point for the prestige range. I was looking to upgrade it but none of the new range came close until I got into J. Custom series - and for that kind of money I decided to keep the RG652 and go mental on a USA Custom shop Schecter Sunset II instead.
@@tdunster2011 that's a bummer, mate! I can't comment much on that as I don't have much experience with the Prestige range, or Premium range for that matter. But their standard range (Made in Indonesia) is commendable, only coming second after the PRS SE range imho.
Honestly this video gives me a greater appreciation for music.
Cool, when can we get a tour of the Mexican factory.
Tony Smith ok I get it...
Whats the difference
This place full of Mexican though
This is GREAT this is why America USA is all about master builders God bless you, beautiful souls .
29:09 Love the Mexican music playing in the background!
Lol but I couldn't imagine working in a guitar factory like Fender and all I hear everyday is that.....
@@KM_1983 why not? I'd get tired hearing boomer buttrock tbh
How much difference is there really between the two factories.
@@tunesmith7437 I'm guessing there's very little difference. it minimizes the workflow processes that need to be created or modified between the two systems. It would make sense for it to be a copy and paste operation
Song is Un Rinconcito en el Cielo
I love how blown away Lee is through the entire video. You can tell he just generally loves Fenders and guitars in general.
Can we get an hour video of Pete playing? 😎😋🤙🏼
So many interesting moments. I really enjoyed this tour. Especially nice to see all the people; workers, craftsmen, artists. Lee’s “kid in a candy shop” enthusiasm is infectious. Thanks!
