  • 2015 Traverse bad ground causing all kinds of weird problems intermittently. Sometimes the dash would display a foreign language!
    Due to the fact that the customer stated that the problems go away with their scanner plugged in i figured it had to be something with the grounds for pins 4 or 5 at the DLC

    Interesting find. I like how Fluke meter head is removable, that makes it easier to maneuver for sure.

    Nice find Brian. I was thinking if I get a symptom like that I am gonna connect the ground from a power probe and see if the problem goes away.

    Hey Brian here's a tech tip that I've used numerous times when I have an issue like that I'll hook the power probe up and connect my ground if everything starts working then I know I found my issue I have a bad ground and I use the lead on the from the ground side of the power probe.

    Awesome job Brian. I have had the same thing happen to me. Disturb the connection just a little bit and it works fine. I then proceed to shake the harness to see if the problem is repeatable. My friends at work laugh at me when they see me shake wiring. They ask If I had too much coffee that morning.lol

    Excellent detective work. I highly recommend an obd2 breakout box for DLC testing. Only 30 bucks at aliexpress.

    The SI for the vehicle will test which CAN protocol it uses CAN 2.0A or CAN 2.0B?

    Great video. But my thought is take the powerprobe that is hooked to the battery and connect your ground lead to that stud or pack of wires and see if your problem goes away. while it's connected go back to the other side and do your voltage drop tests. If you ever decide to do a class at your shop. Let me know and I will drive down from Buffalo

    Hello, I just want to ask you if you could jump pin5 and 4 from the DLC to teste the ground?!

    • @BrianMann216
      @BrianMann216  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +derek oliveira I guess you could possibly do that, but I would not recommend that due to the fact that all (or most ) of the current that would normally flow to that major ground would be flowing through the smaller gauge wire and possibly burn up the circuit. The more I think about it I would not do that even as a temporary test.

      @@BrianMann216 I think its a ground, that what most utube vids are showing. It sputters and dies. traction control, stabilitrack and engine goes in to low power mode. I start it again and it may or may not start usually the dash and everthing just goes dark if you keep trying to start it. In the past the theft security locked everything out. Had the oil pressure go bonkers. So... anything and everything on the dash. I can take the positive off and reset the system but it usually does the engine sputter and stabilitrack warning, low power mode and then dash and ignition goes dark. Thought i had it fixed for about a month with adding a ground but now it came back

    my dad has a 2009 chevy traverse and we are stopped at a light I'll sometimes pull the button to to roll up the window when the windows all the way up and my dad's car makes a weird electric noise when you turn it on and when you roll up the window when it's rolled up the noise goes to high pitched and then when I press the button hoes to low pitched

    BRIAN MANN, When measuring CAN H and L signals i can't tell if its CAN 2.0A , CAN 2.0B or CAN FD, how can you tell the differences on the oscilloscope and to set the baud rate correctly?

    • @BrianMann216
      @BrianMann216  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not know how to tell which protocol of CAN just using the scope, have not had a need to. If I need ,more information on a specific vehicle I look in the SI for that vehicle

    Had boosted another car. After thad all kinds of wierd shit started happening with my 2010 Traverese...was chasing electrical gremlins for days. Checked grounds AGAIN and cleaned,retightened, and added another ground of "0" gauge wire from the chassis to the motor...problem solved. Also checked door electrical pins and found massive rot and corrosion.
