      Don't bother.
      Yes it's a nice luxury as many people say.
      But the end one is such a tight make.... its hard to beat. External antenna, better controls, premium feel.
      Dji RC feels like they cheaped out in a big way just to get a screen built in
      If your phone sucks then yes go with the RC.
      however if you have a kick ass phone then stick with the N1

    Great video. Currently have RC-N1 and Mini3. Looking to upgrade to a 3 Pro with the RC but since I have a IPhone 14 Pro Max i decided to just upgrade the drone and keep the RC-N1. Being faster has no benefits to me as I have never had to worry about time when traveling. Also the controller takes a lot less space and don’t have to worry about breaking the screen. Also the iPhone 14 pro max screen is way brighter.

  • @johnnyfearlesszrx
    @johnnyfearlesszrx ปีที่แล้ว +20

    When I bought my Mini 3 pro, I went with the NC1 because it seemed the best option regardless of any price difference. I always have my phone with me and can't use the phone for calls when flying anyway.
    I could see the RC had more reviews so it seemed to be the preferred option but didn't make sense to me since my phone can record the screen at higher resolution and has a faster processor.
    For people without a decent mobile phone, the RC controller is a winner but that has to be the minority of fliers.
    This video confirms the NC1 was the right one for me.

  • @Lij_MC

    My guess is that if you switch the RC on first before opening the arms of the drone and turning it on then the extra time for the RC to load doesn't matter

  • @RonaldBrown59
    @RonaldBrown59 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Interesting test, I'm not really surprised. But if you turned the DJI RC on first, than the drone, in most cases you would have your FPV camera feed before the drone locked the homepoint for take off. Each controller has it's advantages and disadvantages, and everyone has different needs. I mostly use the DJI RC, because it frees my phone up to other things, such as record some B-roll on the ground as I'm flying. And not get interrupted by calls, messages and alerts while I'm flying. Thanks for sharing.

    Good job as always Gav. Myself I have both of course and I tend to like the N1 better with my phone or I-Pad. With the DJI RC I must have that shade on first of all. With the other not so much. Time to get to flying really doesn't matter to me because I first go up and orbit to get my camera setting right with what filter and etc. Takes time. Also Gav I've got 2 Dial filters (1-5 and 6 - 9) which cuts down on changing filter time. Some time I just use the regular filters. So you see I have things to do first. I know you understand this. Thank you as always for being here for us

    I like using both: the RC for vid/photos in a compact package and the RC-N1 for geospatial modelling and using third-party apps such as DroneLink.
    One add-on comment/question would also be how quickly they each lock onto satellites?
    Might be worth doing a quick outdoor side-by-side comparison to see if there are any diferences in the flying field. Keep it up and keep em coming!

      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It only took me 10 months or so to make this. I have no idea why people think it’s a faster set up, I’m not knocking the controller it’s a good bit of kit but it takes a while to boot up and as shown is placing a phone in s holder and plugging in a simple cable that much of a chore for all the benefits it brings? Most modern mobile phones cost 1000+ they are superior in every way to a £255 android controller

    Had another issue with fancy schmancy controller: have a very difficult time connecting to my mobile hotspot on scene of a job site in restricted airspace,
    and therefore couldn’t “unlock” the airspace.
    I also noticed a “lag” when changing directions with the drone. What’s on the RC2 controller’s display is slightly behind what is actually going on in the air. Not good…

    haha! good man, Gavin! You have challenged an over-arching opinion! A choice between controllers still has many sides to it... I'm an N1 man myself and I'm anyways clove to, using it with both the M2 and M3, a tablet, and Litchi. Not quick but then "haste" maybe shouldn't be common a requisite with aircraft anyways?

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, exactly my point, I simply cannot understand those that claim that the RC controller is quicker - like in any stretch! obviously this video was just to basically prove a point that surely the benefits of live maps, updates, and all the rest surely outway the tiny amount of effort it takes to open a phone holder and plug a cable in? I often like to challenge the narrative just to give a different perspective than the usual fan boys that tell you everything is brilliant. Totally agree, this should be a careful operation and haste has no place really! I appreciate your comment and watching!

    One big reason I like the RC better is because I fly my drone when hiking in remote areas (that don't typically have cell service). On more than one occasion, I've been unable to fly because the port on my phone thinks it has moisture in it, so I can't plug into the controller. With the RC, I don't have that issue - ever. Just one more perspective.....

    • @rwilliam99
      @rwilliam99 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jerryg3652 You can fly without cell service unless there is some required update that you didn't do. I've also had occasions where I didn't fly for a while, went out to fly and it wouldn't fly due to some required update (I should have checked while I still had service). That isn't really a consideration for the RC controller since it would have the same issue. My biggest issue was with the moisture detection (and sometimes I had no idea how it thought it was wet).

    What I really want to know is how people feel about the sticks on each controller. Which one has the better feel, and ease of flight corrections? I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with 5 - 10 or 15 seconds here or there. Pick the controller you like best and go with it. I'm sure the younger crown likes the RC, but to us older guys, the N1 appeals to our "simple is better" mantra. To each their own.

    One of the reasons I sold my drone, a Dji mini 2 was having to use my phone. It was a pain taking the phone out of its case, plugging it in to the remote then putting it back in its case when done.
    Tieing up my phone whilst it was in use and depleting my battery too.

    Love your videos, but this is a very narrow way of looking at the controllers. As someone who has used both and currently has the DJI Mini 3 Pro with the RC, it's not the 13 seconds turning on that will make a difference. The newer one is way more practical in almost every way.

      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว

      I always like my comments section to be an objective and constructive conversation place, what about the newer RC do you find more practical? As I spoke about at the beginning of the video I find using a phone more practical in every way myself

    Overheating and brightness are an issue with Iphone. What about RC?

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A modern iPhone is brighter than what the DJI RC is, the overheating problem is one aspect but worldwide this is an apple issue on certain devices whereas android devices which don’t have the issue have around a 75% market share worldwide, for those with overheating issues it makes sense but there’s a bitter taste in my mouth for users that have to buy additional equipment because of a flaw you can’t override on the iPhone

    but what happens on the phone when a call comes in - default android behavior is to remove all fokus fron g the running app... i havnt tried it my self so i really dont know - but since the regulation in EU states that NOTHING must be able to interfere with controlling the drone would you not need to put the phone in flymode to avoid any disturbence off your flight ?

    • @AishaJariwala
      @AishaJariwala 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mostly all modern phones have gaming mode or gaming hub booster or anything like that, where calls or any kind of interferences are ignored by phone and it does not show on screen just keeps a notification in background (ofcourse you may have to configure that behavior in some devices) but as soon as you specify DJI app as gaming app , your issue will get solved

    That's one of the most annoying things about the DJI RC with the screen I really do like the screen it really makes it more versatile because you don't need to use your phone but one of the most annoying things is just the boot up time but we will still get the RC controller with screen do you do have enough Wi-Fi connections or else you'll be broken 😫👈

    Never really been a fan of the DJI RC - its just so sluggish in use, seems massively underpowered, and not even close to the (overpriced, but excellent) DJI RC Pro that I tend to use exclusively on the Mavic 3. On the upside, as an iPhone user, at least the screen doesn't dim when things warm up. I do tend to use the DJI RC with my Mini 3 Pro though.

    In a real life situation or action situation where your climbing a mountain , riding a bike or on a hike etc it would actually be alot fasted as you'd have to locate both phone and controller then assemble both on the move without an ideal surface to place them on , cause let's be honest , nobody is flying a drone from their kitchen table or office desk

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there long time no see! Sadly it’s not possible to do that test reliably and fairly, ami did write this in another comment but when the drone acquires the sat lock they are cached on the drone therefore if you switch battery or turn the drone off you will see you get sat lock straight away, for example on this test I did the RC first, it got a full sat lock and updated home point message even indoors. However when I repeated it with the RCN1 moments later if you look at the still it already had sat lock because it had already saved them in short to test it fairly they would have to be done in different locations with time between so any results wouldn’t be representative.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m comparing the controllers and uses based on flexibility - not people’s poor choice in phone because their manufacturer designed a substandard product. Why should I give a full list of phones that overheat? What if the manufacturer releases an update that stops it? Then renders the video pointless doesn’t it? In general it was only iPhones that overheated and there were ways to prevent it.

    new rc is faster as you press on then unfold drone gimbal cover off its then ready you cant unfold the drone and fiddle with cables and phones at same time ,however theres not much difference over all but the new controller is worth the extra for clarity and extra dial and function buttons if you can stretch to it get it .

  • @ptaylor5014

    While this test shows te RC-N1 is faster to the camera on, can you do a real life test of actually getting the drone to take off? My RC-N1 with an Androind phone takes longer than 16s to get into the air, maybe because i wait for good sat count before flying.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately that is a nearly impossible test to do fairly - here’s why, each time the drone establishes its gps location in a new area it will take some time to establish the satellite’s however when you switch controller the location is still stored on the drone which is why the sat lock will come quickly if you power things down and restart. This is why if you look closely to r rcn1 controller already had full sats straight away
