    There is a cover/sun shield accessory you can get for the new RC which protects the screen and just flips up for use. Also allows the thumb sticks to remain in place so would make setting up easier still.

    Appreciate the comparison guys! There is one additional item that worries me though. I went with the RC and can't help but think that when DJI releases their SDK in the coming months, won't it be a problem adding third party apps such as Litchi to the RC. The RC-N1 would get an extra point here. I really want/need waypoint capability with my Mini 3 Pro, and was hoping to have it after the SDK release.

    Thanks for this great video. I have the RC N 1 and use it with my iPhone8. When the phone gets hot the screen goes completely dark. You can remedy that by using low power mode and use not other app, while also not letting the app charge the phone. This works okay sometimes, but when it's cold outside, the iPhone dies fast. So I'm in the market for the RC controller.

    I only considered the RC (RM330) since I have at least 4 RC-N1's. I like that it's lightweight, and battery is decent enough. I like my RC Pro (RM510) a LOT more, since I can run apps, a browser and edit video in a pinch. My Smart Controller (RM500) sits around since I only use it for one Aircraft.

    A big point that was missed was with a phone its always connected to the internet so you can always have the most updated map and connection. With the RC i had to take out my phone multiple times to make it into a hotspot and then connect the RC controller to the phone to downlaod a map. Without the latest maps you cant zoom in and see alot of the detail of terrain and blocks.

    Thanks again!

  • @mlscarbo
    @mlscarbo ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You missed a very BIG plus for the RC-N1. that is the Phone based GPS map that shows you where your drone is on a map of the city / Neiborhood you're flying in. As of now DJI has not included a GPS system in the RC controller to do the same, which is crazy. I could do that with my Phantom and my Inspire years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're supposed to maintain visual of the drone. how about Rural flites where maybe as you fly out over "the farm" a strong gust of wind drives the drone a bit further than you anticipated. You could look down at the screen and see that "oh crap, were over old man Peabody's tree farm". Someone get me a Delorian. Whoa, this is heavy, Doc!

    I was literally about to pull the trigger on a refurb RC this morning but after watching this comparison, it's a toss up and I've decided to just stick with the two RC-N1 controllers I have. One thing not mentioned is the ability to attach a larger screened device like an iPad Mini to the RC-N1 which can really help with overall viewing experience. having said that, I've been using my backup iPhone 8 for my controller and although the screen real estate is small, it also is easy to transport due to its size. A trade off but it's also what I have and doesn't require me to go purchase yet another piece of technology. Too many options, so little time!

      I love the RC2 now actually. Another thing I missed off this video is the poor signal of the RC. I would stick with the RCN1. Unless you find a really cheap deal going around

  • @fcl8463
    @fcl8463 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    in other test I saw, RC controller opens for more than 30 sec. and you can setup RC-N1 for less than 20 seconds. also while you use your phone as the screen it has internet data outside and you can directly download the images from your drone to your phone for a quick social media post.

    • @Ian.A.Anderson
      @Ian.A.Anderson  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends from what point you start the test. In real life terms the RC will be slightly faster, but not much difference

  • @zevespa3195
    @zevespa3195 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nice video although missing a few key aspects.
    The RC-N1 has a tendency to break the phone holding mechanism/antenna with time and usage, on the other hand the RC a bit less feedback range, due to having internal antennas.
    RC-N1 has a bit more battery then the RC.
    RC-N1 could be a bit heavier then the RC due to having a phone attached.
    A few important feature to take note imo.
    Keep up, Cheers !

    • @Matanumi
      @Matanumi 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly! Do you know the processor in RC1 isn't even that good? There's a reason why its very slow- it was made to give people a screen on their controller for as cheap as possible.
      I sold mine to a guy who had a mavic 3 and a crappy Iphone- it was perfect for him.... however I just have that much more control with my s10e and n1 Combo- takes seconds to load upon boot up!

    I’m still using the N1 with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and no complaints, BUT since a recent trip to Thailand where the temperature was surely around 40C in direct sunlight, the screen started to dim as the iPhone got too hot. I had the Mini2 with the RC-N1 for quite some time and then bought the Mini 3 Pro mostly to get the RC controller. I have a much easier time getting the Mini Pro 3 up and ready to fly compared to the time working with the RC-N1. If the RC could have worked with the Mini 2 I would have just bought it separately (thought I think the Mini3 video quality is excellent).
    The setup time between the two controllers has never been as close as 2 seconds for me as when you guys did your testing. Getting my phone out and ready to fly takes much longer then just firing up the RC and I have a phone dedicated to my RC-N1.
    Screen brightness is definitely an issue with the RC though. Flying my drone on the beach on a mostly cloudly day wasn't easy. That is a major downside to the RC vs using a phone.

      I never got that "yeah but N1takes longer" argument.... like no it doesn't- slip the phone in the insert and connect it when you turn it on- app even

    just being 2 minutes quicker when setting it up / putting it away is a good enough reason, it makes me use my drone more often. Especially when it was very cold it took me like 5 minutes to get my phone out of that stupid controller cause my fingers didn't work lol.
    I also almost lost my drone once cause of it. My phone overheated and crashed, didn't reboot for 5 minutes. While I was over a river 1.5km away at 40% battery... got it back with 2% battery.

      In our tests we didn't find the RC-N1 too slow to set up. But then tests will also be different to practical life, because you have everything more organised. So yes I think the convenience and faster set up is a big reason.

Does it really matter how bright your screen is when you can't fly further then being able to physically see your drones orientation. As for the new RC, your thumbs were covering a good portion of the screen, the sticks need to be below the screen. Sorry but I'm a grumpy old git who feels his wings have been cut by the new CAA VLOS regs.

      N1 allows use of a tablet, RC does not.
      So for screen options, the RC simply can't compete, you're stuck with the standard screen.
      As for stick resistance, the RC is definitely lower.
      As I don't use sticks it's less of a problem, I have M2.5 domed nuts on the RC threads and use the N1 as is.
      Give it a try, it makes holding a set control input much easier.
      As a demo, hold a matchstick in place on a table with your right thumb and put your left thumb directly on the table.
