Underrated movie. Not perfect, has a few issues here and there, but really a lot of fun. Best thing about it is they really nailed the tone in a lot of the scenes. It was a well told classic fantasy story with a cool ending. Today Hollywood is unable to tell such a story. It's repeating action, boring nonsens dialoges and oneliners ...these days.
This original book was one of a series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, who also wrote the “ Tarzan” series. He wrote about all these things that were not there in the early 1920s, so you must realize what a true imagination he had. So many things in these books came true in later years, he was a visionary.
I liked it. A sequel would have been nice. But I think it's main failing was because it was nothing new to people. Like it was copying other sci fi/adventure movies. The problem with that though was it seemed like nothing new because those sci fi movies were actually copying John Carter. Possibly not the best example, but it'd be like growing up on Batman comics/movies and then seeing The Shadow (from early 1900s) or possibly even an old Zorro movie. In any event. So you have people coming out possibly feeling disappointed. And reviewers crapping on it because they don't know history.
@@lepke1979 non , you are wrong it is not copying from anywhere , it is just a movie made from the novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs , " chronicles of Mars" . If you want to know the entire story read it.

I read the John Carter books, so I knew exactly what to expect. The books are trash, and I thought the movie accurately portrayed that. My inner 13-year-old thoroughly enjoyed it. I might have to go back and watch it again.
As someone who has read all the Barsoom adventures growing up, I cannot possibly like this terrible butchering of Burroughs' masterpiece. Its just like modern day Disney to turn Dejah Thoris into a butt-kicking warrior.
I remember as a kid my dad would read me and my sister this story to bed at a time and out of all the bedtime stories I had these were the best! So as soon as we found out that they were making a movie we were excited and we enjoyed every bit of this movie!
such a great underrated movie - once again Disney kills anythig it touches - it failed to market this movie and it went now where. This should have been a trilogy
10 years old Still one of my fav scenes in this movie Love how pro-active Dejah is in on Mars, she’s not just a petty princess sitting on the sidelines She fends for herself and doesn’t let John do all the fighting Yes this movie isn’t perfect but I still recommend it for its swashbuckler feel and the comradderie of the heroes
you can enjoy that, sure, but thats not how the story goes. and thats not her character.the directors made this super PC. as always, because they're afraid of any strong male archetypes.
Yeah - the really sad thing is that she does the smart, bad ass woman type so much better than basically any female character in the MCU, and yet she will never get a repeat performance. For those who don't know it the original author of John Carter is actually THE Edgar Rice Burroughs protrayed as the character Ned in the film - the same author who gave us Tarzan. Once you know that you can see John Carter is pretty much sci fi Tarzan with the role of stranger in a strange land reversed to the man John Carter instead of Jane in Tarzan - even the low gravity Mars jumping of Carter is riff on Tarzan swinging from vines in the jungle.
Ten years old??? Oh the mental conditioning.......as someone who fought, I can tell you the reality of things is VERY different. I mean when the war in the Ukraine started, female enlisted soldiers were posting videos about how scared they were that WWWIII would break out and how they "didn't sign up for this" - that's pathetic and it made me feel embarrassed as an American. So the whole "fighting side-by-side" thing you see in movies between men and women, it's a feminist fantasy kid. That's how they imagine they look - the videos they were posting that I mentioned - THAT is the reality. For them it's all about LOOKING the part - actually having to play the part for REAL though? Not so much. And if you're ten, then God bless, you sound like an adult. Don't fall for the traps kid. It's all rigged.
I loved this movie. The critics are all idiots and whenever a critic gives a bad review. We only want to watch that movie even more. John Carter is a very entertaining film.

This movie is perfection if you love the golden age Hollywood movie. It has that sci-fi fantasy element to it, romance, drama and tragic backstory, action…Unf, it’s soooo good!!! The main couple is gorgeous, their chemistry is beautiful. The hero is compelling and his tragic backstory is so heart wrenching. The action is wonderful, fun and exciting and a visual feast to look at (I absolutely love it when John jumps hiiiigh up into the sky and when he uses his super strength to fight the white apes). I wished this movie got the sequels it deserved but oh well…I’d like to imagine that some alternate timeline, we Jarsoomians got like 10 movies out of this film. Hehehe.

I actually Enjoyed JOHN CARTER back in 2012 when it was premiered, though it only lacked Aggressive PR due to mishandled promotions, and unfavorable news emanating from shooting woes negatively affecting the potential of this Great film.
Lynn Collins is so beautiful. She also graced the film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". I really wouldn't mind if she had a leading lady role. Just so I could see her in more movies. Someone like Wanda the Scarlet Witch. I don't remember who plays Wanda now, but if it was Lynn Collins I definitely would remember.

Up until today, I'm still waiting for a sequel😢 maybe some of y'all hated it & treat it like shit but to me & some, this film is loved, epic, at least it have some heart & soul poured into making it. As one of an example, the scene during The Great Battle when John being a one man army soloing a whole armies while having a flashback of his family. If that isn't epic & emotional, I don't know what will. And yet, part of me has to accept the fact that there will be no sequel. I'm dying to see what happened to Dejah Thoris, Woola, the Tharks, the people of Helium, John's son & Barsoom right after the disappearance of John & after he returned to Barsoom. Taylor Kitsch deserve better. This film will forever have a special soft spot in me. Och Ohem Ocktei, Wies..Barsoom~

Loved this movie, especially the “dog”!, must have watched it about 10 times!
Despite being labelled a flop, came here to say how much I like this movie and pleased to see so many others think the same
Agreed.
You know what....this has got Brendan Frasier's The Mummy vibes and I'm all for it.
This movie was treated so poorly .... It was definitely a very decent watch
I still watch it every now and again
It was a well told classic fantasy story with a cool ending.
Today Hollywood is unable to tell such a story.
It's repeating action, boring nonsens dialoges and oneliners ...these days.
@@jevonscantlebury9834 I watch the snippets on you tube. This video for example:)

Underrated movie
one of the most underrated movies ever. It became of my favorite of all time.
I loved this movie! I watch it all the time.
This original book was one of a series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, who also wrote the “ Tarzan” series. He wrote about all these things that were not there in the early 1920s, so you must realize what a true imagination he had. So many things in these books came true in later years, he was a visionary.
Most Sci Fi writers are.
I don't know why this movie did so badly. It wasn't the greatest, but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it.
The budget was just too high.
@@lepke1979 non , you are wrong it is not copying from anywhere , it is just a movie made from the novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs , " chronicles of Mars" .
If you want to know the entire story read it.
@@netshaman9918 You may have misinterpreted what I wrote. I said a lot of people thought it was copying or a rehash of other movies/stories. However, the other movies/stories were actually copying the John Carter books.
So you come out thinking it was just OK.
I read the John Carter books, so I knew exactly what to expect. The books are trash, and I thought the movie accurately portrayed that. My inner 13-year-old thoroughly enjoyed it. I might have to go back and watch it again.
With all the swill that Hollywood throws at us today, I appreciate the simple, entertaining premise of this movie.
This is easily in the top ten sci-fi movies of all time. Wonderful story and acting.
watched it several times and still love it
As someone who has read all the Barsoom adventures growing up, I cannot possibly like this terrible butchering of Burroughs' masterpiece. Its just like modern day Disney to turn Dejah Thoris into a butt-kicking warrior.
Aku: “YOU CAN FLY?!”
Samurai Jack: “NO! JUMP GOOD!!!”
I remember as a kid my dad would read me and my sister this story to bed at a time and out of all the bedtime stories I had these were the best! So as soon as we found out that they were making a movie we were excited and we enjoyed every bit of this movie!
People weren't ready for this movie.
Too true, my friend.
such a great underrated movie - once again Disney kills anythig it touches - it failed to market this movie and it went now where. This should have been a trilogy
10 years old
Still one of my fav scenes in this movie
Love how pro-active Dejah is in on Mars, she’s not just a petty princess sitting on the sidelines
She fends for herself and doesn’t let John do all the fighting
Yes this movie isn’t perfect but I still recommend it for its swashbuckler feel and the comradderie of the heroes
you can enjoy that, sure, but thats not how the story goes. and thats not her character.the directors made this super PC. as always, because they're afraid of any strong male archetypes.
Yea, I know huh ... just like in real life. LOL.
@@jupiterjones64 He was a strong male archetype. Dont see what you talking about.
Ultra-underrated film; extra credit for the outstanding cast!
Oh come on
Be honest
You wanna watch this movie again
Just for Lynn Collins ❤️
she is way too beatiful for earth so she is martian

I loved this movie. The critics are all idiots and whenever a critic gives a bad review. We only want to watch that movie even more. John Carter is a very entertaining film.
I really enjoyed this movie when it came out. It's really a shame that it didn't do better in the theaters.
I don't care what anyone says. John Carter has the most rewarding ending ever .
This movie was something new just like first Jurassic Park was something new just like Armageddon and Independence Day was something new just like Titanic was something new. While watching this movie I did not get the feeling that I have already watched something like it earlier also. It was a new idea altogether. I had enjoyed it very much ☺️
this was a great movie, im surprised there is not a sequel.
💯💯👍
Goes down in my Top 20 Greatest movies of all time. Love story, suspense, aliens, war and adventure
This was and still is one of my favorite movies.
This film deserves a good sequel, by same directors and the same actors, please !!
One of the most underrated movie since 2000 , was Epic, watched it 4 times
I don't know why this movie got such bad reviews. I love this movie! It's a great love story!
John Carter was so good. Definitely deserved more movies that were originally planned.
"Maybe I ought to get behind you." That's what I was thinking. Me likee Dejah Thoris. This was a great movie. I was hoping for a John Carter franchise with 2 or 3 sequels. Don't understand it. Must be the timing Great story. Great ending. I watch it every time it comes back.
Underrated movie! really wish i we got another one just Tressure planet. 😢
i still love this film..such a good story
I love this movie 🎦!!! ❤🌹 Do not care what other say!!! It deserved much more credit!!! 😼 😎
The first and only set of books I’ve read disappointed they didn’t make it a trilogy in movie
Hello Friends, I hope this happens, the books have to much going on for just one movie, We need some people who have great imagination to do ERB, right!
thanks for following me
These books were my own secret little pleasure as a kid, no one else I knew valued them. Then the movie turned out to be the same thing, I loved it and no one else I knew did.
saw this twice in theatres and im still highly entertained by it!
Am I the only one who thinks that Lynn Collins (Dejah Thoris) would have done well as Wonder Woman if Gal Gadot hadn't been cast? She's physically imposing at 5'8" and seems able to pull off combat well.
She is hot AF...🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree as I've never liked and won't ever like Gal Gadot's casting as Wonder Woman so would love to see Lynn Collins take on the character.
@@DarkLordDiablos what did you just say about miss Israel 2004!

You are not the only one. I did not know this actress but without a doubt she has a much more adequate profile
Always loved those super-hero midair rescues.
Why Lynn Collins didn't get casted as Wonder Woman is beyond me.
Too "fat" according to today's Hollywood standards.
Dehja Thoris is supposed to be the most beautiful girl on the planet... Hard to pull off but this girl did...
@@datatsushi2016 Sad to think that a feminine and sexy body like hers would be considered fat.
The answer is: her age. She is more thank 10 years older than Gal Gadot.
@@gloomy5487 Makes sense too. I still feel like she wouldn't have been casted regardless though. Hollywood tends to make strange casting choices.
Bro 10/10 movie esp with that twist at the end
This is why NASA wants to go to Mars. Look at that hot chick. 'She is human!"
I liked it that much i read Edgar Rice Burroughs sequel !!
Hehehe.
I love the idea and happy to see a sequel or a trilogy.
I've been waiting 10 years for Lynn Collins to accept my marriage proposal. I feel like I'm starting to wear her down.

Thats the one buddy...you got her where you want her. Just another decade and she's yours! ;)
@Mike's Book Reviews, we're all rooting for you Mike.
Hate to break it to you Mike, but her husband, musician Matthew Doyle, beat you to it years ago. Never mind buddy, better to have loved and lost and all that . . .
I don't understand the hate this movie gets. I thought it was entertaining. I didn't watch this movie for a long time because of all the negative press, but when I watched it I was totally baffled by the negativity. It is a good action movie.
The first time I saw this was by accident but once I started watching I couldn't stop. I really enjoyed the movie and have watched it a few times since. Certainly dont think it deserves the panning it got and continues to get but there you go eh. Not everyone likes soup.

This movie is SO underrated! Still bummed that it flopped, it would've been so cool if this became a franchise.
I actually Enjoyed JOHN CARTER back in 2012 when it was premiered, though it only lacked Aggressive PR due to mishandled promotions, and unfavorable news emanating from shooting woes negatively affecting the potential of this Great film.
"You are ugly, but you are beautiful"
One of the best lines 🤣🤣
I read all eleven books years ago, this movie did a great job telling the story. 6 thumbs up!
How could people not love this movie? I watch it at least once a year maybe more.
I love this movie. Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins are absolutely gorgeous and this movie was a Rollicking adventure.
This was a fun movie , Taylor Kitch did a fine job , right from the troll job on his Cavalry buddies into his alien dog fetching..at least they made this one - grateful fan
One of the greatest muvie, adventure and fun. Family and friends to watch. Love it.
Such an underrated movie and a great action film.
This is a guilty pleasure that I enjoy every now and then.
Fantastic movie that was very much in the spirit of the novels.
I love this movie. One of the few movies I’ve watched with my father (just me and him) before he passed into the Underworld. Such a great movie!!
Oh yes. The second and third books, with the therns and Issus ... (Though might have to pull a change for Issus' faithful though , even though they're not written to symbolise or portray human races , it won't wash with today's audience )
*I liked this movie so much*
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Although this movie was a commercial failure, I thought it was quite enjoyable. It is a shame that there won't be any sequels. I think this cinematic universe would have been entertaining and I would absolutely have purchased sequel tickets.
Not many good movies from good books like this
