John Kramer rising up at the end is one of the greatest horror twists in film history.
I can remember seeing this in theaters and everyone was shocked at the ending. It was great.
OMG!!!!! Yesssss!! Between that and the Sixth Sense……there are no words!!!
@@moonlitspider2827Yesss!!! You could hear everybody collectively suck their breath in with shock!!
Spoil it
@@h.b.byington5773 I didn’t spoil it for TBR because they already watched it. And if I spoiled it for you because you’ve never seen a 20 year old classic and just wanted to watch the cliff notes reaction, then why do you even care?
I cannot overstate enough how my friends and I lost our minds when he stood up at the end.
Dude, the wifes, "da f*ck is that?" was so funny and in a tone ive never heard from her before. 🤣
For real😂🤣

The way Sam said “What the F#@$ is that?” as the doll tricycled in 😂
Ten plus 1 spinoff "Spirals" torture porn is incorrect... Intricate traps and stories
Samantha genuinely asking, " what the fuck is that?" was low key hilarious!😂😂😂I am very desensitized, but I dont recall her ever cursing, especially the f- bomb. 😂😂😂
People watch the full series not because of the gore or the traps but to find out jigsaws full story
As psychotic John Kramer/Jigsaw is, a great quote from him is: Congratulations your alive. Most people are so ungrateful of being alive. But not you, not anymore.
The series gets more and more graphically violent as it goes, but the mystery and plot twists remain a core part of the franchise.
The best part of the series is that ALL or most of it, are all connected in one way or another with reappearances of characters and call backs. The SAW franchise has a massive stigma on it. Some of it is valid... but its definitely NOT all torture porn.
The guy that played Adam actually wrote the script. James Wan directed it. The movie was made on a budget of about 1 million dollars and went on to make about 100 million. James Wan went on to direct other films like The Conjuring and insidious.
Leigh Whannel. Also a good horror director.
And Leigh Wanell played Specs in Insidious.🤓
@@user-nt8lq4rp3z Cool. I haven’t seen it yet.
Whole thing filmed in one building too.
@@RealJustinCrow I know right. I love it when movies are made like that and are still good. Like The Breakfast Club movie. And John Hughes claims he wrote that movie in three days. Mind blowing.
Slamming the door like Leatherface is a BOSS move.
100% agree reminds me of Leatherface shutting the door and his movies but then adding an extra little twist to it by game over line awesome❤
HoMyGAWD! You just blew my mind! Holy smokes! I can't believe I never made the association until just now when I read your comment. 😂 They both slam a door like a boss!
The sequels are so good, especially 2 & 3. They get very topical. One film is an indictment of the health care system. You will understand Jigsaw's motives and may even find yourself sympathizing with him.
Y’all have no idea just how much the first one is quoted/memed lol, what an amazing movie
Also while the franchise gets gorier, I sooo want y’all to react to the twist and turns (and boy are there some bonkers twists) in the later movies
I like to imagine an ending where he wakes up from his fake death and goes, "How did you enjoy my masterfully crafted plan?" and they're like, "Huh? Oh, we couldn't reach the tape recorder so we've just been sitting here."
The original is so good, and remember my mind being blown by the end. This movie isn't even bloody, and introduced the world to James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Absolute classic.
Drinking game: a shot every time you say “jeez” 🤣🤣
That’s a lot of shots! 😳
☠️
This original is a great mystery with an awesome twist. The sequels do devolve quickly, but this one makes a for a great first reaction.
First escape room I ever went to was in Las Vegas a couple years ago that was an actual licensed “Saw” movie themed escape room that was actually about six or seven rooms and not just one. It was so cool. It felt just like being in the movies..
interesting thing about this film, it started as a short film that was getting passed around Hollywood from person to person. It became a very "in" thing to get to see it. So, naturally they wanted to turn it into a full length movie.
They is how they pitched this, it was a short film for a contest in the home country of either Australia or New Zealand. It did well and they showed it around. Someone liked it and decided to fund it
@@hardcorenativextreme Australia
They tried shopping it around in Australia, but everyone thought it wouldn't amount to much, so they went to America. The rest is history.
This isn’t important to the movies at all, but it’s important to me that everyone who watches them knows it. Much like the Jaws shark, the jigsaw puppet was given a name behind the scenes. His name is Billy.
Jigsaw is the name given to the actual killer John Kramer
I am watching your cannel since the first "Alien" movie and I'm rarely commenting.
Just wanted to let you know that i have always loved your reactions and your related discussions.
Cheers and best wishes.
Sam reacting to a jump scare will never get old. 🤣🤣🤣
Never ever 😂🤣
"Watched SAW4 in high school..." I cry feeling so old 😭😭😭
Saw 4 came out 17 years ago too haha
Lol yes considering I was in high school when the first one came out 😂
Composer Charlie Clouser is one of the reasons why the films have lasted as long as it has. The music is one of my favorite parts. It’s like a weird and strange mix of orchestral, industrial music and some metal guitars. His most famous cue is called “Hello Zepp.” It’s basically the main theme of the series. It is played in all of the films. Particularly at the end when you know shit is about to go down and leave you speechless. Charlie was actually the former keyboard player of Nine Inch Nails. It probably explains why his soundtracks is so good!
Adam is played by Leigh Whannell. He cowrote this movie with James Wan. You may recognize him from One of the ghost hunters in “Insidious.” He’s also a good director too of movies like “Upgrade” and the recent “The Invisible Man” remake.
Yeah, Leigh Whannell is a much better Writer & Director than actor especially based on this movie! Glad he found his niche as he's extremely talented.
Thanks! I’ve seen “The Invisible Man” and “Upgrade” and enjoyed them, but I didn’t know he made them.
My favorite part in Saw is when Dr. Phil and Shaquille O'neal are chained up and Shaq needs to make a free throw to get them out.
Mine was the insane asylum.
That's not Saw. It's Jaws. Understandable you might mix them up.

James Wan, director of SAW, left the filming of the end of this movie because Adam's screaming was too frightening and too real to handle.
11:46 I don’t think I’ve laughed quite as hard about other things that Samantha has said, as I did right here.
The actress who had the the trap on her head and got away, I remember seeing her for the first time in 1989, in a John Candy movie you guys should watch, it’s called Who’s Harry Crumb?
16:36 & 22:37 I love watching people jump at these scenes. I think I laughed almost as hard at Samantha’s reaction to the first one, as I did when she shrieked at the tongue click in Hereditary. And I love how her jumping, seems to physically startle him more than the actual jump scare itself, or at least it did at the first one.
i think it's hilarious when they scare each other.

Saw is a great movie which many people think is innovative, but this film as well as many other films in the 2000s were inspired by the Japanese film Audition (1999).
its basically Seven, Cube, and Audition in a blender
Seven = the villian
Cube = waking up in a trap room(s)
Audition = the body dismemberment aspect
I am writing this to help out tbr Schmidt and Samantha and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥰
The saw series is great. I hope you guys watch all of them. So much fun, so much suspense.
LOL, wow! I never noticed before, but the little girl who played Dr. Gordon's daughter is the same actress who played Nancy (age 11) in the movie Sin City, which came out only a year after Saw. I hadn't watched the first saw in a very long time, but I have watched Sin City several times over the years (because I simply love that flick!), so now seeing Saw again, I recognized Makenzie Vega right away.
I love this movie! I like the plot twisting ending and the traps are so creative
When I saw this on Patreon I was like "yep there's your thumbnail" 😂 amazing!
Each Saw movie gets more clever than the previous! You should watch them all!
38:35 One of the first escape room scenario movies I saw was called Cube from 1997. Like saw, the acting isn't the best but the concept and story was great and I loved it.
Been waiting on that one 🧑🦳
Cary Elwes is a great actor.
This film is obviously flawed, but it really was sort of a trailblazer. The traps, the mystery, and the reveal stood out. I remember my mom telling me she saw this in the theaters, and the audience there let out a collective "gasp" during the final act. Might be one of the best endings to a horror film in history, and I love that it still lingers even after the credits start rolling.
Yeah, given that this film had a very low budget and was filmed in less than 3 weeks, I'd say that the final result far exceeded expectations. Personally, Saw is probably in my top 3 horror films of all time just based on originality, execution, and influence.
Most of the flaws are the result of being a low budget movie. Shooting time was severely limited so the actors had to get it in the first take a lot of the time.
@@TheScreamingMime most of the flaws are that from the time period, 2004. the TCM remake was massive so now every horror movie for a few years had the same ugly, terrible color grading on it.
29:05 Best orchestra soundtrack in any movie! So amazing and its perfect for the ending of this movie. They nailed it!
People focus on the "torture" part of it but surprisingly all of the movies have a great story that links them all really well.
To be fair, it became more focused on the torture as the series went on. I still enjoyed the overarching story.
Exactly there is blood an gore an things like that. But the core is a story or story's like what or why are the people there in the first place. They are not random people they are chosen for a reason. That's the core of the Saw movies along with the story or story's of the ones that put them there. Like John Kramer so there is his story an the story or story's of the people in the test or games. That's the core of the movies that people tend to miss. Because they see blood an just focus on the blood parts of the movies.
@@jmiyagi12345 No it stayed focused on the story or story's of the people in the. Test or games along with the ones that put them there. Because if the people well 99% of them because the other percent are innocent people like the doctors wife and daughter in this movie.
I know right. Best comedy series I ever watched.
Misconception actually
Good timing! I was looking for something to watch and this notification just popped up! Thank you!

How did I not realize until now that the dude locked in the bathroom is Cary Elwes aka Robin Hood. LOL
And Wesley!
Please please please keep going. The second half of the franchise is of varying quality but the overall story is freaking great. They really brought it back with Saw X as well and it stands as one of if not the best of the franchise.
Awesome reaction. Remember the puppet is not named jigsaw that's John Kramer's nickname. The puppets name is Billy
this franchise is PHENOMENAL!!!!
You guys have great timing! I just finished the most recent Saw X movie a few hours ago and saw this. Hope you guys do the series.
Poor Sam….what have you started for this poor woman.🤣👍
People keep talking about the “rise up reveal”. The REAL ones know that the greatest thing about SAW is the theme song. Hello Zepp. I also hope you two watch at least Saw 2&3. Because the story continues…
Spoiler for anyone who hasn’t watched this movie or seen this reaction: The warehouse where the detectives hunted down Jigsaw was located at 13 Stygian Street. Basically saying that Jigsaw’s workshop was located in Hell. Give credit to James Wan and Leigh Wannell; they know the art of subtlety because the rest of the franchise has little of this virtue.
Sam's wind up at the intro. I was on the edge of my seat. Lol. Cheers.
Saw and Se7en are a lot alike, both are crime thrillers with horror elements to them. Classics.
I have been so excited for this video and it's here!! Great!
Also, 1-7 are one string of interconnected story. The 8th and 9th movies are more spinoff that anything. The 10th is directly related to the first seven.
Liking this before I even watch because I already know I will like the reaction :D
FINALLY I see reactors that say it was terrible acting!!! From the very first time I've watched this movie in the cinema and the many times I've watched it on DVD,, I've never changed my mind about the bad acting in this movie. All the reactors I've seen never mention this and it annoys me quite a bit. So thanks for mentioning it!!!
By the way I have the special edition DVD which included as an extra feature the student film that started all this. It was the sequence of the reverse bear trap. The actor who played Adam was the actor who was in the reverse bear trap. It was his and his friend's student film. The two students were awarded the contract and budget to make the full length movie.
In my opinion the TRUE Saw movies end with Saw VII where everything is FINALLY revealed. After than the Saw movies aren't worth watching.
4:14 ...The movie has a great concept and all, but imagine for a second that the key didn't went down the sink... Adam would get loose, call for help and John would be arrested with no feets being sawed... To hell with Jigsaw's plan
They didn't know it was John, dude. They thought it was some random guy lying there dead in a pool of his own blood. The moment Adam would have left, John would have got up and walked away. He could have killed Lawrence first, to leave no witness of his identity.
@@murrayroodbaard207 John doesn't kill personally... That's again his own rules.
The 1st game is technically rigged against the guy in the bath because of something revealed in a later film flashback (in 3 or 4 I think)
@@davidbrechin1559 Technically, but at the opening of this movie you can see the bathtub stopper was in place and it was Adam that accidentally pulled it out when waking up...
@@paulieluppino1856
1. You ignored my point that they didn't even know it was John.
2. You actually think he wouldn't do it even if it meant staying out of jail.
3. The bathtub draining made the key go down. Pretty sure John always makes sure all the traps work as intended. But sure, be hypothetical.
Great reaction guys! This is a series I recommend not watching all the sequels.
I say stop at 6
@@mikethemotormouth I read the latest had great reviews though. I may just check it out.
@@yeahright8970 can't say myself, haven't seen it yet. And I never pay any mind to critics reviews and take audience word of mouth with a grain of salt
FYI just in case you were curious about the puppet it actually has a name. It's Billy.
You guys are the best 😊
People pretending Jigsaw is some kind of anti-hero because he makes people appreciate their lives more always forget he tortured a guy because he smokes. Jigsaw is a giant asshole.
my favorite parts of this franchise are the stories, the games that jigsaw puts for his "victims", not the grotesque traps themselves. I love the survival room stuff, the "make a choice" bits. The people in his games don't appreciate what they have, and jigsaw is testing them...some pass the test, most fail. Those elements that focus on him and HIS traps (not those put forth by others) are the fun and creative elements I keep coming back for. People fixate on the traps themselves and hate on the films, but it's the underlying message and choices the people have to make that are the genius of this series IMO.
I definitely recommend the 2nd! I think it's also very clever and a great ending. Yes, they ramp up the gore a little. Still worth it!
The original "Saw" is an absolute masterpiece. The film revived the horror genre just as "Scream" did. Totally launching the careers of James Wan and Leigh Whannell, which was rightfully so!
Saw also has one of the most epic horror soundtracks I've ever heard. It sounds way more badass than scary in my opinion.
Also, that twist ending is really what seals this film as an all time classic in the horror genre. Nobody can ever say they saw it coming.
I agree about the score. After watching Saw in 2004 I ordered the CD of the score the next day from Amazon. Hello Zepp the main theme is outstanding.
I saw it coming, I knew the dead guy in the room had to be a red herring because they never searched him, never wondered or asked who he was, nothing. Not saying it wasn't clever, but there are people who guessed the twist from the start. Its not a masterpiece, not even close, but i can see why its a favorite because its fun.
One of the best film endings you will ever see.
If you are interested, the sequence regarding Amanda is bit of a tease for the several of the sequels.
And it's quite the reveal.
I love how the rise in popularity of escape rooms has recontextualized this movie almost into a comedy for me as these two guys bicker about how to solve it at first.
Oh my sweet Wesley!!! (Can't ever see him without thinking of Princess Bride)
Jigsaw must've been good at holding his breath or breathing very softly if they've never noticed he was still alive the entire time. 💜
He's tranq'd isn't he? That'd keep his breathing shallow, and it's not like the 2 kidnapped guys are gonna focus too hard on the guy they think is dead.
(They'd actively be looking away from the body if they're even halfway normal people.)
He took something to slow his breathing. It explains all in the sequels.
Seeing this in the theater was wild. The Collector & The Collection are pretty well done with a similar vibe.
Biggest misconception of franchise is torture porn. Nothing like that. It’s story driven, psychological, connection and traps have purpose.
Not gonna lie, I always found Zepp’s test rather out of character for Jigsaw. The doctor’s wife and daughter never did anything that would make them targets for Jigsaw.
Billy is the Puppet, Jigsaw is the nickname of the old man. In the 2nd movie, he mentioned he prefers to be call John, which is his actually name in movie. In the movie the police and news press nicknamed the old man (John) Jigsaw because he would cut out Jigsaw Puzzle Piece shape small chunks out of the people he kidnapped.
11:44 "What the fuk is that??" -Sam
10:33 "Flapping your jaws" gets the new meaning ;)
Tobin Bell's acting is phenomenal, easily my favorite horror antagonist. He came back strong in Saw X, even in his 80's he wanted to do it again.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Saw movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Kinda the only Saw movie...the rest sucked lol x
@@AutoAlligatorall of the saw moves are good 😈
this movie re-invigorated my love of horror movies.
Finally!! Please watch the whole series!!
The character of Adam was played by Leigh Whannell who was the writer of the Insidious movies and also acted in them as the character specs, one of the two guys that helped Elise. He also was a writer on most of the Saw movies including Spiral and Jigsaw and the Saw movie in 2017 and also was a writer for the Invisible MAN, among many other things and he's also an actor and has been in a ton of stuff he's originally from Australia. The character of Amanda, who has a pretty small part in the original Saw, was played by Shawnee Smith who was in the remake of The Blob back in the 80s, with Kevin Dillon, as well as the sitcom with Ted Danson as the doctor or vet I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the series.
The ending blew my mind, when I first watched it. I love how clever the film is. It is one of my favourite horror films of all time.
The first movie is such a marvel. Low budget, great story, forever changed horror.
My former best friend in 1st grade:
"Did you see saw?"
Me: "Yeah! I love to see saw. I see saw every recess at school!"
An hour an a half later:
"I need my mommy!'
Just curious, but is there actually a see-saw trap in the franchise? The possibilities are ending, as in life ending.
One of my favourite franchises, I love the running storyline and all the twists, even still I did not expect the 10th movie to be the most critically acclaimed, critics always disliked the series so it was a surprise. I went on a blind date to Saw IV as well which was another good memory. Hope you stick with the series, it'd be great for reactions.
17:29 😳"Oh shit!" -Sam
The first 7 movies and 10 are all very much about the story and characters, with all the twists and turns of a soap drama. Many of them are just as good as the first, if not better. You definitely should check them out.
Leigh Whannel, who played Adam in this movie, wrote the script here, and more recently directed the excellent movie The Invisible Man, that I highly recommend!

The Saw franchise definitely has it's ups and downs, but as a whole it's a pretty solid group of movies. From what I remember it becomes a thing for each movie to start with a random "game" that is only tangentially linked to the rest of the movie. Almost as a way to pull in the people just there to see the gore. ! and 2 probably are the best IMO, but they're all fun and full of twists. The biggest issue is it starts to get to an insanely unbelievable realm of John Kramer being able to predict what people put in stressful situations are going to do down to the most minute detail.
The complexity and somewhat relatable motives of the Jigsaw villain is what makes this film great as a standalone horror thriller. I’ve only seen parts of the other Saw movies and that disturbing relatability to Jigsaw is largely diminished in my opinion.
Saw II is adapted from an unrelated horror screenplay. Thats part of the reason the other Saw movies aren’t as clever or memorable. Jigsaw’s back story becomes more and more convoluted and has the effect of essentially reducing him to little more than a standard Hollywood psycho killer.
I enjoy the even Saws more than the odd (though 5 is one I enjoy more than most).
I avoided the series for a long time, thinking it was just gorn(gore 🌽)/torture 🌽, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually enjoy the machinations of John/Jigsaw and you can't stop me from grinning whenever Billy (the puppet) trikes in.
The traps/games range from dumb to diabolical, but more interesting is the way the series uses horror to highlight social issues. The parts of Saw commentating on the health industry, police methods, and the justice system are some of the best in the series.
