There's a bit of foreshadowing when they first walk in the bar and the bartender (Danny Trejo) tries to turn them away because the bar is for bikers and truckers only. Drifters, or people who are always traveling, since when they disappear it would be hard to know exactly when or where, so their little operation stays on the down low.

Keep in mind at the point this was cast George Clooney was mostly a bit part actor. He had a small run in E/R (1985 Elliot Gould Show), Roseanne, and a show called Bodies of Evidence. Besides that he just was getting small single episode gigs. ER (1994-95) had just started to air its First Season when Dusk Till Dawn was in shooting and he has no clue that he was about to become part of the Hollywood A-List celebrity crowd. His work in this and ER propelled him forward into movies.
Robert Kurtzman came up with the idea to do a classic late night gridhouse like horror flick with the great gory makeup and effects he used to love making himself. Robert Rodriguez was of course immediately down and the came to Quentin knowing his love for the same type of films and paid him in his first paid writing job. Quentin had already done Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction so of course Harvey was game. And Quentin pretty much just wrote them all characters for them to just have fun spending studio money. They pretty much just inserted every cool over the top idea they loved from dozens of films and rolled them into one. They pretty much all just had fun and it shows. That's what gives this movie that strange little quality you can't put your finger on.

Speaking of Desperado, please watch El Mariachi first! It's RR's directorial debut and the first entry in the Mariachi trilogy. Desperado is an Evil Dead 2 situation, part sequel/part remake with budget. The trilogy concludes with Once Upon A Time In Mexico.

"I've got six little friends and they can all run faster than you can" my favourite line in this. Clooney plays it dead serious as a career criminal, which helps sell the whole movie. We as the audience get a total right turn as the movie changes direction and becomes a full on monster movie at the end.

Back in 1996, all the trailers for this movie in TV, on home video, or in the theater gave away that this movie was about vampires. It was everywhere. So if you were alive or obviously old enough (at least 6 or 7 years old I guess), you would remember. Damn I feel so old about talking about something from the 90s like this, but I guess it is nearly 30 years ago.
