  • The Ohme Intelligent Wall Charger is one the most popular EV charging products on the market. Its biggest USP is its ability to synchronise with your energy tariff and automatically start and stop charging based on electricity prices.
    Neat stuff, right? And very handy if you're on time-of-use tariffs such as Octopus Agile.
    But is it all it's cracked up to be and how easy is it to use? In this Ohme review video, our editor Danny gives his verdict on the Ohme Intelligent Wall Charger and checks out the build quality, app features, ease of use and much more.
    To give you a peace of mind, we want you to know that our reviews are based on hundreds of product feedback comments from our own customers. So, as well as doing our own testing, you can be sure these are not just our opinions but the opinions of our customers.

    Ohme is very good. The app ability to charge during low co2 grid times is great.

    I have the OHME installed. I use it on my Hyundai Ioniq PHEV, and for the PHEV I reckon the OctopusGo tariff is best - so as to utilize my UK overnight off peak rates. These apply for just over 2 hours, so I do not see the need for Octopus Agile which it is acknowledged is slightly more fiddly. and complicated. The Ohme app itself definitely takes some getting used to but once you find and apply the formula which suits your car and lifestyle you can just forget about it. I also understand the OHME charger will automatically adjust to future software improvements, so that will do me. All in all a reliable product with excellent after sales service - if required. One important tip - don't try and run 2 schedule systems at the same time ie the car's schedule system on top of OHME schedule.
    It can't cope, and is not intended to.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip on the schedules - yes, it is important to make sure two live schedules do not conflict within the Ohme app, and to make sure there are no schedules set within the vehicle itself as this can also conflict.

      If you're dumb charging or not connected to your car's API then setting the charge to 80% on the car (if possible) can be useful to prevent running it up to 100% by mistake.

    Thanks for the video. It's interesting that you said that the Ohme needs an earth rod. Mine was installed without one (by yourselves). Have you any idea why this would be the case? Thanks.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, Trevor. The on-site engineer will always do a thorough check. I can't comment on your installation specifically (I am not an electrician), but sometimes I believe the engineers may not install an earth rod based on health and safety aspects. For example, if its unclear where the Services and Drains run underground.

      Mine has been installed with an extra box next to the consumer unit that does the job of an earth rod.

    I’ve got one installed. Don’t see a problem with looks, it’s a wall charger not a fashion statement. I’m certainly to tech savvy but. With Ohme and Smart Home Charge you have all the help you will ever need. Just remember to buy your charger from Smart Home Charge, they’re great people.

      Lots of people agree with you as the Ohme is our most popular product. But many customers do want something a little easier on the eye shall we say - myself included.
      Doesn't need to be anything extravagant. I went for the EO Mini Pro a couple of years back because it was small and discreet. The new Sync EV is very similar.
      Each to his own though :)
      Thanks for watching.

    Do you have a video on the Ohme Home Pro t does not require an earth rod

    • @SmartHomeCharge

      No video just yet, sorry. We tend to wait until a product has been out a while before reviewing it. We can obviously pass our own judgement on a new product, but the proof is really when enough installations have been done to get customer feedback. We prefer to get feedback from people using the product on a daily basis first and then produce a review - so subscribe and watch this space :)

      @@danielbarker4497 Personally, I prefer the Ohme. I actually have the old EO Mini Pro installed at home. I like the look but the app at the time was bad. I don't know what the new app is like though for the new EO Mini Pro.
      What I can say is I actually plug in an Ohme smart cable into my EO, which probably says a lot.

    How does it compare with the Zapping charger?

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, the Zappi and the Ohme offer different features. I guess you need to decide on whether you would use the benefits of the Zappi for the higher price point you would pay.

    Any PV/ solar support?

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Ohme doesn't have solar integration. However, it is the market leader using time of use tariffs, which has different benefits.

      It may be worth checking you've added the car correctly within the app. But sounds like you have to me. I would recommend contacting Ohme as they will be able to look into this for you.

    Just had one installed - the charger itself is great, but is only fully intelligent if you're connecting a car from a manufacturer whose API they can interface with, otherwise you have to tell it what % you want to add. As for trying to register and swap between 2 cars in the app or have 2 phones/apps - it's clearly not setup with that in mind. Charger great, app and website... disappointing (but I'm sure they'll improve the app).

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a fair point. I would say the Ohme app is still a step above most other charge point apps, even without the API access to some vehicles, but it's a fair point to bring up.
      Although Ohme does mention it on its own site, I will look at making this clearer on our website too.
      Thanks for watching.

      I have a VW iD4 which should support the API but haven't got to work yet. My wife has a Peugeot e208 which it doesn't even try to connect. We've installed the app on 2 phones under one Ohme account and have our own vehicles selected in each device. Schedules and history are shared and visible in both - generally sensible to avoid using the app if the other is charging as either effect the session. Couldn't find guidance anywhere but able to work out: but not everyone has 30+ years experience of system analysis. Worth a tutorial?

    Product information good but you could deliver it with a little more passion. If I wasn't watching the video I would have thought I was listing to old-style Text to Speach I'm afraid
    Worth mentioning of course that setting charge to a percentage charge (SOC) is only possible if your car has App support to communicate this to the OHME system because many don't so you are left making a lot of gestimates.

    Only if you are total technophobe AND a total fashioning would you not go ohme. I use octopus watch the check cost in next 48 hours, set my happy price then plug in tonight and or tomorrow night and job done. Easy peasy. Vs old tariff get ev charging for free and further savings on rest.

    • @SmartHomeCharge
      @SmartHomeCharge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is pretty easy, but some people may not want to use Agile or other similar tariffs, in which case the Ohme might be more than they need. We know some customers prefer a "plug and charge" option or chargers that offer simple start and stop times for charging. The Ohme does cover a lot of bases, though.

      A very old video now and I think I have improved a lot since, but never claimed to be a professional presenter. Just trying to help people select the right product - but I hope you got a kick out of posting a needlessly critical and harsh comment. Don't like the video, no problem - but just leave and go find another channel producing content like this that you like.
