When you compared Angelina Jordan to Queen and Freddie Mercury and said she was "better than the original", and now to find out this is your "first time" hearing Queen and Freddie Mercury, I suggest you do your homework before making untrue statements.

Freddie Mercury was gay thus Queen. Sometimes he wished he’d never been born at all. He died from AIDS. He was a master showman with a beautiful voice. I don’t think it was so much a tantrum as a wistful look back on his life.

Freddie was ill, had been warned by his doctors that singing at this concert could damage his vocal cords. Freddie is being very careful and changing high notes to protect his voice. So those truly amazing vocals he's producing are him holding back. Him not 100%.

Queen achieved something no other musical group has been able to do. Each member wrote a #1 hit song for the band. 4 musical geniuses.

Welcome to the Queen rabbit hole! I recommend listening to the studio and then the live version of “Somebody To Love”. Freddie Mercury was really proud of this song. He was a huge Aretha Franklin fan and wrote this song to celebrate her style. The studio version shows you how Freddie Mercury wanted the song to sound and captures his love for her singing style. Then you need to react to the 1981 live performance of this song from Queen’s Montreal show. You will be amazed at their pure talent as a live band. Remember that this was before the technical tools and enhancements that are so prevalent today. These four are pure genius talent. BTW, just about everyone knows Queen songs but did not know that the songs are from Queen, for example, “We Will Rock You”, “We Are The Champions”, “Another One Bites The Dust”, etc. 🎼🔥🎼🔥🎼🔥🎼🔥

I think that's his best vocal showcase, it even "cracks" at one point as it was a bit alter in his career and he couldn't quite hit the full high note, but he recognized this and seamlessly corrected for it.

That video that confused you changed the music industry. Big impact. Flipped song structure. Theatricality was very much a part of Queen. No genre untouched. Good to view studio and live - striking comparison. Perfectionists in the studio and curators/designers on stage. Will be fun for you to see the entire Live Aid set. Charisma on fire.

Check out the full live version at Wembley 1986 and Montreal 1981. This was shortened for their 20 min set. All the artists were given 20 min to perform! LIVE AID was a charity event for the famine in Africa. Freddie is the best vocalist & frontman of all time (in my humble opinion). Must do SOMEBODY TO LOVE live in Montreal 1981. Freddie wrote the song inspired by Aretha Franklin. Queen also wrote ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST & Michael Jackson encouraged Queen to release it. MJ was a huge Queen fan! Freddie & MJ did a couple collabs together called THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS & STATE OF SHOCK. Queen’s catalog is massive!! WE WILL ROCK YOU, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, UNDER PRESSURE, DONT STOP ME NOW ... their live performances are what makes Queen so GREAT!

This was their opening song at Live Aid. Going on stage after Elton John and before David Bowie would have made any other band cringe. But they not only rose to the challenge, they are regarded by they vast majority to the best performance at Live Aid. And still one of the greatest bands of all time.

This is a truncated version of their live performances of this song because they were fitting a bunch of hits into a 20 or so minute set. Live Aid was a multi-continental concert. UK, US, and several other countries were putting on concerts at the same time for 24 hrs. and it was broadcast live. I remember staying up nearly the whole time to watch it! Good times!

  • @peggyh8937

Live Aid was a one time, world wide charity event to raise funds to feed the people starving in Ethiopia. It inspired same day concerts at multiple venues around the world and was broadcast live across 150 nations. Queen performed in front of 72k in Wembley Stadium in London (a small audience for Queen) and to an estimated 1.5 Billion live broadcast audience around the world. Queen was just one of many bands that performed that day.. Everyone who was anyone performed that day but Queen stole the show. Their performance is still regarded by many as the best live rock performance EVER. You really should listen to the entire 20 minute set. Each band had only 20 minutes. This truly is a phenomenal performance. I can tell by your observations and reactions that you will love this. It really is something that everyone should see in it's entirety at least once in their life. I've probably seen it 100 times now and it never gets old.. Freddie's skills as a front man are unmatched and he shows that in this full set. I would encourage you to watch the whole thing. I guarantee you it will blow your mind. I watched it from home in the U.S. that day and can only imagine what it was like to be there live as I never was fortunate enough to experience them live. I am a newer Queen fan, now totally obsessed with them. I don't think there is a better live band than Queen. Another one of my favorite performances is Somebody To Love in Montreal 1981.Most of the time, I recommend their live performances but I think you will also enjoy their original music video of I Want To Break Free. As you watch more of Queen and compare them to your experiences, with other bands, you'll see why they are so special. They are not locked into any one genre. They have an enormous catalogue that covers just about style of music and they know how to put on a show. I enjoyed your reaction and look forward to seeing more Queen reactions from you. I hope you enjoy Queen's magic as much as I do. It's fun to watch people experience the joy and mind blowing performances that Queen delivers each and every time they perform. The Queen rabbit hole is well worth the journey. Enjoy!

"His vocal capacity is intense" - he was unwell and didn't know he's even be able to sing at all.
Mr Boyd, I love your reactions, I really do - they're not as carried away playing for the camera as some reactionaries, but I'm actually quite taken aback that someone as obviously clued up on music hasn't heard Queen before at probably the most famous set at the most famous gig ever in music history.

As others have pointed out, because they were one of many bands at this benefit concert, they only had~ 20 minutes for their full setlist and so they shortened the length of theur typically live version ( which itself was slightly abridged compared to the studio version).
If you would like to see a more fuller live performance of the song then I would recommend the live in Montreal 1981 concert version ( as well as many other outstanding performances from that same concert). Live at Wembley 1986 is also pretty good and the same applies as well for many other songs from the concert

This was probably the last huge concert for Queen, as the lead singer Freddie Mercury had contracted AIDS and was succumbing to it. Listen to their full set from Live Aid. During their time as a band they had numerous hits worldwide and compiled soundtracks for movies, Flash Gordon, and Highlander.

Loved Queen, but Freddie also had a solo career with some great songs. His remake of The Platters’ “The Great Pretender” was a showcase of his vocals. Another song by Freddie Mercury which show his range was posthumously played in the 1992 Summer Olympics (was the 1992 Barcelona Olympics official song, if I recall correctly) was collaboration with opera singer Montserrat Caballe aptly named Barcelona. Worth a listen if you have a chance.
From the Queen songs, “Who wants to live forever” shows the vulnerability of his last years as he was thinner, and getting ravaged by AIDS…but his voice…damn. What a voice.

I just remember all of my friends cruising the town in our beat up old car with the studio version blasting and everyone of us teenagers singer every single syllable of the song as loud as we could (oftentimes not really understanding the words we were singing) : ) It was just a crazy song but with so much musical genius that noone could resist it. It's because "the middle section" and the beginning of the recorded version, it's only Freddie singing. The others are miming in the official music video. Freddie recorded the same lines dozens of times at different tones and they were layered on top of eachother for the album version and music video.

I saw them live in the ‘70’s and they did do the middle bit, they used a huge tv screen for the faces of the band members singing and lots of smoke on the stage for atmosphere and to hide the technical jump. It was brilliant. All these years later the power of Freddy’s voice still blows me away. He was truly a rock legend.

Freddie Mercury had a throat infection when he did this performance and doctors had told him not to perform. Also you only saw the first seconds of the song here. Its weird that the video cut short like that. And here is one of what is generally considered his best live vocal performance of his very long career. (Somebody to love -- th-cam.com/video/aA2IRoPFIn0/w-d-xo.html ) Oh, also, Queen had , over the course of 14 albums, 53 top 40 singles, six of which went to number 1. They were iconic and still an influence on music today. If you've ever heard 'we will rock you' - that's Queen. th-cam.com/video/-tJYN-eG1zk/w-d-xo.html Or 'We are the Champions' th-cam.com/video/04854XqcfCY/w-d-xo.html

Also concerning you missing out on this your whole life, I suggest do a search "Crowd singing Bohemian Rhapsody before Green Day gig". That many people know the entire song is amazing, but not. Heck I remember the story of the drunk guy, arrested and in the back of a car singing the whole song.

Hi. Popped in to see your reaction to Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence. I'm a person who likes all kinds of music and usually a song fan vs a band fan. Three exceptions. Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Queen! (Yes I am old) As some others have suggested if you want to see one of the best of Queen's live performances....or really any of their performances. Live or studio. Somebody to love Montreal. THEN you will say "This guy can F'n sing"! As much as I love the whole Live Aid performance I would say that Somebody to love in Montreal is better.

Please check out Queen’s live performance at Milton Keynes and Rock Montreal- Queen is always better live in my opinion- I’ve been a fan since 1975 and I’ll never go a day without Freddie-/ Freddie was in his 20’s when he wrote this masterpiece- you should check him out singing opera with the Spanish diva Montserrat!! Freddie is incredible and he wrote Barcelona which was used at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona- Freddie had passed in 1992,November 21.

His doctor told him he shouldn't perform because his voice wasn't 100% so he compensated during live aid, hence why the song may sound different to you

People comment on his teeth, but he didn't want to get them "fixed" as he was afraid that it would change his voice.

This isn't the whole song. You need to react to all of Live Aid 85.

Thank you for doing a Queen reaction... But it's always disappointing when I realize "Oh No! Not the Live Aid "Bohemian Rhapsody"! ...because this is NOT the whole song, it's only the first part.
