Freddie is, arguably, the greatest "Front Man" in the history of rock and roll (IMO he is the GOAT). Queens catalog of hits is extensive and most people have heard several Queen songs even if they do not realize it. Queen is certainly one of the most cultural impactful rock bands of all time, right up there with the Beatles, Elvis and the Stones
Love Freddie and the entire band. But not seeing any love for Brian May, in the top 5 greatest guitarists of all time, pioneer of guitar equipment and technology and literally a rocket scientist.
If you’re not familiar with queen, you’re just unaware that you’re familiar with queen. “Somebody to love”, “we will rock you/we are the champions”, “bohemian rhapsody” and “under pressure” are all songs that 99% of people would still recognize without knowing it was queen that did them.
“Another One Bites the Dust” took the world by storm. The song became a hit in 17 countries, but nowhere larger than in the United States, where it became the biggest-selling Queen record ever, topping both the Pop and Disco charts, as well as reaching #2 on the Soul chart. Composed by bassist John Deacon, the song features an instantly recognizable funk bass riff, and high energy, bordering on manic, vocals by Freddie Mercury.
Don't know if you know that Queen wasn't going to release Another One Bites the Dust as a single. Michael Jackson heard the song and told them they had to release it.
YEEES! This is another one that's been "ruined" for me by Weird Al. I can ONLY hear another one rides the bus in my head. I LOVE Queen but Weird Al has his own space, rent free in my mind for ETERNITY
Freddie was a once in a century front man. He was just born to do what he did and he embraced it in every way. He died way too early. The best always die way before their time. R.I.P.
Freddie had so many talents, not just in his singing, he was going to designer school when he joined the band, he had a great sense of fashion, he could actually sing opera, he was taken way to soon but at least his music lives on
John Deacon, the bass player, wrote this. He was Queens secret weapon for writing hits. It was Michael Jackson who suggested to Queen to release it as a single.
If you liked this live performance from queen, you should check out queen live from Montreal 1981 "find me somebody to love ". Maybe the greatest live preformed song ever. Maybe?
Freddie Mercury is my all time favorite!!! When I adopted my cat a few years ago, I named him Freddie, in memory of Freddie Mercury's love of cats! My cat is just the sweetest boy ever 💕
You should react to Queens full 20 minute set from Live Aid 1985. Freddie had a crowd of 72,000 people completely in the palm of his hand. Back in the early 2000s, there was an industry poll- a bunch of journalists and other musicians- that voted Queen's set as the best live action performance in the history of rock music. It beat out Hendrix at Woodstock.
There were so many legendary bands and performers during Live Aid, but Queen was the performance that everyone remembered. Queen and especially Freddie had everyone in the palm of their hands.
The backbeat of this song and the backbeat for Stay'in Alive by the BeeGees is the exact beats per minute you are supposed to use when doing compressions for CPR. You can also use Weird Al's Another one Rides the Bus.
If you're not familiar with Queen, I'd suggest listening to Somebody to Love from this same Montreal concert. "Somebody to love, Queen Rocks Montreal". It's often regarded as one of the best live performances ever.
I know Freddie steals the headlines with Queen - then again he does have one of the best voices of all time. But each member of Queen were among the best at their specific craft. Heck, if it wasn't for Freddie, the drummer would likely be the lead vocalist.
This concert was filmed (35 mm) to release as a movie and was a "one off" concert, not part of an extended tour so Freddie's voice was in wonderful condition! What a blessing we have this film! Oh, and, "Another One Bites the Dust" was Queen's highest ranked song of any of their songs in the US.
From the 80s on, I can't remember a time I went to a roller skating rink where this song wasn't played. Love this song and band. Loved when it was played daily on the radio. Thank you for the reaction!
Freddy was a generational talent. Mans was incredible. The whole group was insane. I’d recommend watching the movie that came out a couple years ago. So good. Rami Malek did such an awesome job playing him

Queen were just incredible....so innovative, doing stuff no one had thought of doing before. Covered a wide range of styles. Freddie was possibly the greatest rock front man ever. The guy could really interact with an audience .....you might like to check out their Live Aid performance....Freddie was on fire there... I don't think they got a single Grammy....goodness knows why.....maybe they were just too unique....
This one of the songs made famous by Queen, that has been used in many sports venues as background music, "Another One Bites Dust", "We are the Champions", "We will rock you"
The Montreal concert was shot on 35mm film, it has been restored and upscaled to HD, like a lot of classic movies of that era before being put on blu-ray. The result looks amazing. It sounds amazing too, as Freddy was young, healthy, and in full control of his voice, unlike on the Live Aid concert. The only downside is the terrible sleepy audience.
It's possible due to it being physical media, had it been digital media then the process would be impossible, they could've upscaled it to 4K 8K 16K or whatever digital resolution people would want.
One reason for the "sleepy audience" was that the director of the film told them to be silent. A thing which pissed Freddie off. And to piss off the director he used different clothes - those extremely short shorts on second night :)
35mm film already has higher resolution than HD. 3 to 12 million "pixels" vs HD at 2 million. Digitizing it to blu-ray degrades the quality but you don't have a film projector so its convenient on a disc.
This was the biggest selling single of Queen's history as it was listen to by different people with different tastes in music. This was written by the bass player John Deacon. The whole band were multi talented with all of them being able to play other instruments. Other than Bohemian Rhapsody, my next favourite would be It's a Hard Life but if you watch it, be ready for a shock for the costumes the band were wearing. One Vision is also a good one and there is a short documentary of how the song was developed from beginning to end. Good luck as there are so many Queen favourites to find.
Freddie as the FrontMan of Queen is legendary, but his solo sets are what truly showcases his full range and talent and takes him to another level entirely. His duet with legendary Opera singer Montserrat Caballe in the song Barcelona is still one of the most spine chilling vocals I have ever heard. Give it a listen and I promise you will not be disappointed.
If you've ever been to a sports event you probably heard this song with the meaning of the other team falling on their face. Also their "We are the Champions" is another often used at sporting events. For an earlier song and a ballad. White Queen ( live hammersmith odeon 1975)
The concert was shot on 35mm film ,which doesn't really have a resolution limit persay, the grain in the film is the limitation. This concert was released in 2007 on Bluray after it was scanned in 1080p and restored. The original audio tape was maintained and complete, but parts of the film were damaged while in storage so certain scenes are inserted random shots or slow motion to fill in missing footage.
Technically it was shot over 2 nights and some of the footage is from one night and some from the other. There is a Brian and Roger commentary out there covering this whole concert and they tell the story.
i have the dvd of this concert and it is MAJESTIC to see it in this high of a quality - makes me wish theyd filmed all of their concerts on 35mm film!! its really really hard to believe this is from 1981 haha
I loved your reaction! This song was written by Queen’s bassist, John Deacon. Michael Jackson was a Queen fan, especially Freddie Mercury, and saw Queen live when they played the L.A. venues. Queen played this track to Michael and he told them they needed to release it as a single. The members were not really sure about this song but went ahead and released it. Well it turned out to be a HUGE hit in America topping the charts in multiple genres. Now that you have done the 1981 live version you should now check out the 1986 live performance at Wembley. Trust me, Queen always switched up their songs when performing live. They prided themselves as being true musicians who wanted their audiences to get a true show rather than straight studio versions of their songs. The 1986 Wembley performance is VERY different from the 1981 Montreal version.

Love "Queen". Miss Freddie ❤ We were going to play this song at my dad's funeral, cos he would have loved that. He had a great sense of humour. But the day after my dad died, his best friends wife passed also. We knew that his best friend would be attending dad's funeral, and we thought that it might be in bad taste so we didn't do it. ❤🎶😀🎤

Since this was first recorded it has been played at many sport events, in particular, football at the end of the game when the home team won. Played either by the team's band or the instrumental version by the stadium. I remember hearing it at many football games I attended. High school, college and professional. So the losing team bit the dust.

He loved this song so much that he encouraged Queen to release it as a single!! Freddie & MJ did a couple demos together called THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS & STATE OF SHOCK!! 👑 🤴🏻
This entire group is unique, not just the frontman. All have degrees- the lead guitarist, Brian May, has a doctorate in astrophysics; his paper is a quoted resource in other papers. Freddie Mercury was a mutant; he had more than the normal number of teeth, which affected the shape of his mouth and the sounds, though it doesn't explain his writing talent. The drummer was also a singer, prominent in several songs including "Bohemian Rhapsody". The bassist, while not at the vocal level of the others, was good enough he could have been a lead singer in any other band. This band was a perfect storm of things coming together.
At the time, many stations who did not know who Queen was were sure that this was a black group. I remember the confusion! They got a lot of airtime on many traditionally black stations. 2nd favorite group of all time. Got to see them twice, in ‘83 and in ‘84. No other performer has been able to equal the frontman status of Freddy since, for me. He literally controlled the crowd like a cult leader...that was his onstage charisma! Such a great voice both times. Love your reactions!
Your thumbnail says “he can’t be human” Freddy had quite an extreme overbite. He was bullied for it growing up, but he refused to have it fixed. There are a lot of acoustic experts and anatomy experts that believe that Freddy had a vocal range so vast _because_ of that overbite. His face literally grew into the perfect shape to sing. What some people would regard as a deformation, created one of the most powerful voices _ever!_
Now that you've heard this one, you're ready for one of Weird Al's foundational hits: Another One Rides the Bus. His performance of the song live on the Dr. Demento show on 14 Sept 1980 was the start of his collaboration with his drummer Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. Jon had been at the radio station for another band and heard Al practicing Another One Rides the Bus outside the broadcast booth and suggested he needed some percussion to go with the accordion. Al asked if he had his drums, and while Jon didn't he offered to bang on Al's accordion case. They've now been making music together for over four decades.
The hook to this song has been played during so many sporting events along with Queens songs We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. Freddie Mercury was and is the GOAT.
This is a man, if you never saw him live you missed something incredible. His studio voice was fantastic, but live is where Freddy Mercury shined soooo brightly. A truly inspiring person, that this world will miss.
I don't think you're incredibly late to the party. You had a different up bringing than this type of music. But this man. Freddie mercury has just as much energy as Michael Jackson on stage. He's a flawless human being. Listen to bohemian rhapsody live. He's beyond what humans are capable of. Also one of the most iconic bass lines of all time too
Re: hearing this sample in a hip hop song, you might be thinking of Rappers' Delight (by the Sugar Hill Gang), which sampled the bass line from Good Times (by Chic). I believe Good Times also inspired this song.
Who Wants to Live Forever...........LIVE AT WEMBLEY This will show his talent and also LI VE FROM MONTREAL...........SOMEBODY TO LOVE.........15 YEARS EARLIER............
Queen does have a lot of amazing songs. Let's see there's Somebody to Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Who Wants to Live Forever, Stone Cold Crazy, Under Pressure with David Bowie (the version with the Eurythmics singer is also good), and well, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody. Just to name a few
Ohhh, dont forget 39', We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Hammer To Fall, I Want It All, Seven Seas Of Rhye, Breakthru, Cool Cat, Good Old Fashion Lover Boy, Now I'm here, These Are The Days Of Our Lives and of course The Show Must Go On
Cant imagine this song being played in high schools now. Was a theme song for all our high school sports teams back when. Was a great pep song for energy.
Don't be shy with the Queen videos... Bohemian Rhapsody is arguably the best recorded song ever. The "Queen Live Aid - Love of my life" was one of the most beautiful moments in live music. And Freddy was in a class of his own and was a big icon in the idea of being proud to be unique and different which was not as prevalent as it is today... Perhaps thanks to people like him.
Queen is honestly one of the best 80s band ever. I'm only 15 and never knew it existed until I watched Jojo which Im genuinely grateful for, for introducing me to queen and other amazing musicians and bands like Prince. Also if you never heard "Gold" by Prince then listen to it, it's seriously amazing.
I wished you would have reacted to the one in Wembley. There were more audience participation there. The crowd was awesome, and the Band was really great too.
Damn I miss good music and great a great frontman to lead an amazing band! This song reminds me of junior high. Our school had a ski bus. When me and my jr high friends would be riding the ski lift and we saw someone crash we would start singing as loud as we could Another bites the dust! Hey, it’s gonna get you too, another one bites the dust! Another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust! Inevitably the skier would get up laughing and give us a thumbs up🤣 It’s when people had a sense of humor… you know… those days 🤣🤣🤣
This song reminds me of maybe the best ad I've ever seen. There used to be a stereo company called Aiwa. I had one, it was an amazing stereo for a 10 year old. Anyway, this ad opens up and there's two guys in suits riding in a car. The young guy throws a CD in the stereo and this song starts playing. The old guy appears to very unamused, the young guy is having fun. The camera zooms out, they're driving a funeral hearse, leading a procession.
It was probably recorded on film, not video, and then digitalized from that film relatively recently. So the resolution is no surprise. I just watched a new Beatles documentary based on decades old material that was shot on film and it's just amazing to see it in HD.

Bassist John Deacon wrote this song
Your thumbnail says “he can’t be human”
Freddy had quite an extreme overbite.
ANYTHING you watch of queen make sure it's live! amazing and better than studio (IMO)
Greatest lead vocals of all time The GOAT
The whole concert from Montreal was remastered. Please react to Somebody To Love live from Montreal(the same concert as this one)
Wyclef Jean used this hook in one of his song. Freddie is one of GOAT's of all music period. All there songs are outstanding.
"Shoot out!" is what he's saying.
The hook to this song has been played during so many sporting events along with Queens songs We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions.
Freddie Mercury was and is the GOAT.
Would love to see you react to the live performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. Incredible.
Also one of the most iconic bass lines of all time too
This is a fun song. Thank you so much for reacting.
Re: hearing this sample in a hip hop song, you might be thinking of Rappers' Delight (by the Sugar Hill Gang), which sampled the bass line from Good Times (by Chic). I believe Good Times also inspired this song.
Was just going to say the same thing. Well played sir, well played indeed.
And in turn basically inspired Vulfpeck to make 3 on E
It's also directly sampled in The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel, with John Deacon in the writing credits. :)
Wycleff released it in 98 th-cam.com/video/r9msVekBv8s/w-d-xo.html
Or maybe he's just think about the version of this song with Pras & Free
Who Wants to Live Forever...........LIVE AT WEMBLEY This will show his talent and also LI VE FROM MONTREAL...........SOMEBODY TO LOVE.........15 YEARS EARLIER............
Hey there! I'm late to the party as usual, and just found you last night. I really enjoy your sincere reviews!
One of my all time favorites!!
Ohhh, dont forget 39', We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Hammer To Fall, I Want It All, Seven Seas Of Rhye, Breakthru, Cool Cat, Good Old Fashion Lover Boy, Now I'm here, These Are The Days Of Our Lives and of course The Show Must Go On
And don't forget one 9f Mt pe4sonal favorites, 'I want to break free' the video has a lot of significance to the time it was made.
@@Datfroboi456 And don't forget Time, Bicycle Race, Fat-Bottomed Girls, Love Of My Life, You're My Best Friend and I'm In Love With My Car.
This video is from a concert that was shot on film which is why the quality is so absolutely incredible for the time.
The never performed love of my life in live aid
You gotta see Queen's Live Aid performance. Considered by many to be the greatest 20 minute set in rock and roll history.
This was my favorite song to roller skate to.
You’re thinking of the collab done with Wyclef. It’s amazing. Queen included it in their greatest hits album.
I love queen 💯💯
I wished you would have reacted to the one in Wembley. There were more audience participation there. The crowd was awesome, and the Band was really great too.
Damn I miss good music and great a great frontman to lead an amazing band!
This song reminds me of junior high. Our school had a ski bus. When me and my jr high friends would be riding the ski lift and we saw someone crash we would start singing as loud as we could
Another bites the dust! Hey, it’s gonna get you too, another one bites the dust! Another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust!
Inevitably the skier would get up laughing and give us a thumbs up🤣
It’s when people had a sense of humor… you know… those days 🤣🤣🤣
Your voice is velvet, I'd love to hear you in an audio book!
Back when this came out every radio station would play this song followed immediately by "we are the champions".
Weird Al Yankovec did a version of this, called "Another one Rides the Bus"... You might like that one, and the lyrics might be a tad clearer...
Brian May on guitar is a highly respected astronomer these days.
Astrophysicist
Extraordinary... Very amazing.
