    The canyon reverb is set in a lovely spot. When you had that on with the delay it felt like I was floating into a lovely 1940s movie soundtrack set somewhere in California.

    That is absolutely one of the best uses of pedals I've ever seen. You just blew my mind that you don't even need an electric instrument... brilliant, of course you don't.
    Also you rock, you are clearly one of the coolest people alive

    My boss gave me a bari sax he hadn't used in years and I have a ton of effects pedals and I found your channel searching 'saxophone with guitar pedals'. Cecily, I appreciate this show and tell and saving me a good deal of expensive guesswork and frustration, I'm so excited to get my bari pedalboard going. Thank you so much!

    Cecily that was awesome. I’ve never heard a Sax player using pedals before. It sounds great! I hope more horn players get into it.

    Hi! Guitar player and pedal addict here. A sax through the QTron! What a sound! I landed here from your posts on TPS group. My daughter started playing guitar as it was a class offered at her middle school. Then a new school was built and they didn’t offer guitar but she wanted to try band. Luckily they let her even though she missed 2 years. She is playing clarinet and she loves it. Which hurt a little that she liked it more than guitar but I’m happy for her. Now that I see she could run it through my pedalboard I’m so excited! I’ll check back here for more videos for sure! It was really interesting and refreshing to see a non stringed thing on the TPS group! Thx for posting!

      Hi, Jason! Thanks so much for watching! I’m very happy for you that your daughter is still playing music. My father is a bass guitarist and he and I share a passion for music too. The good news is the music theory that she’ll pick up from band class will be super helpful. I’m going to be coming out with a series of short tutorials that will delve into some horn-specific pedalboard considerations soon. It’d be cool to get your daughter going with electronic sounds early. Thanks again for watching!!

      I just got a pickup for clarinet (and a different one for bass clarinet and sax) from piezobarrel (Australia) and really love the sound. In fact this is what brought me to this sax pedal board video. Thanks.

      I have a rig which I’m developing having played without any effects for years . Boss S1 , Zoia , Strymon Volante etc with a Brainz Left Brain expression.
      Using my bass clarinet or Alto through them .

    Octave pedals sometimes struggle with the note tracking a bit especially on lower bass notes, so you almost have to play higher on purpose for it to work better but... You might consider a digitech whammy pedal they have pretty darn good tracking. 😃👍

    I appreciate the no-nonsense info in these videos. That said, after messing around with various boxes with my flute, I've decided it's not worth the MONEY, more than the effort. If you have $2K to drop on a board of pedals (and, preferably, a roadie with pockets full of batteries), go for it. I'm going to try to follow the jazz giants who came before me, and try to make my own weird noises myself.

    I have never heard anything like that on a saxophone. I didn’t think it was possible. I have no doubt that foot pedals would work in a small ensemble with a limited amount of horns and at least four musicians in the rhythm section (drums, bass, piano and guitar). If not it will definitely make a saxophonist an enemy of the guitarist. lol
    I liked the chorus pedals. I like the idea of playing one horn but sounding like I am playing more than one like the lead guitarist in rock bands do.
    I have restarted playing saxophone after more than 20 years of inactivity. I play an Allora Chicago tenor saxophone. Which one of those effects pedals would be a good start?
    Thank you.
    Great demonstration.

    New subscriber here. I love your videos. Quick question: when you demonstrated the canyon pedal, you said you had it on the reverb setting, but the canyon is only a delay and looper pedal with Feedback. It doesn’t really have ‘reverb’ does it? So how are you getting reverb out of it?

    • @cecilyterhune
      @cecilyterhune  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Tessa! Thanks for watching! The mic goes into a preamp that sends the signal through my pedal chain. The signal could go straight into an amp from there (like an electric guitar) or it can go through a DI box to a mixer, or it could go into an interface into a DAW. Let me know if you have any other questions about it!

      @@cecilyterhune I have a pedalboard with a built in preamp, I used to use a pickup drilled into the mouthpiece of my bass clarinet but have since parted with it. I wonder how the effects compare on the notes at the top of the horn to, say, low Bb, considering where the sound is escaping? always inferred that it would be difficult to achieve effects on the full range of the horn with a microphone due to its limited area.

    • @cecilyterhune
      @cecilyterhune  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Matt! I like to use a preamp like the ART Tube preamp or the Voco Loco to achieve this. Technically you could just use an adapter, but the signal is much healthier with a preamp. Also, preamps can give you the power you need for your mic. I have a video on this concept: th-cam.com/video/Fd4H1mUrNTg/w-d-xo.html

    Fellow saxophonics addict here. Awesome board! Datacorrupter and rainbow machine always seemed freaky but no so versatile meaning using it maybe once in a whole set or so. Do those types of pedals stick long on your board? Also how's the overall noise level on larger systems ?

    • @cecilyterhune
      @cecilyterhune  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Justin! You're right; I don't often play out with those two pedals. I definitely use the rainbow machine more often than the data corrupter. I really like the rainbow machine in combination with some of my other effects to create other-worldly sounds. My preamp really helps with tempering the noise level with larger systems. I haven't had too much trouble. Also, since I've experimented with dirt pedals recently, I've introduced a 10-band eq pedal and a noise-gate into my chain at different times. They've really helped to give me lots of control and minimize unwanted sounds. What pedals do you use mostly?

    Hiii cecilyyyy!!! I'm a flutist and saxophonist and I use a pedalboard composed by a Whammy, a multieffect pedal and a reverb,but I have a serious problem with the noise. When I connect the guitars I don't have any problems, but when I use microphones it becomes very noisy. What do you think about this? :))

      Do you have a pre amp? Also what you could do is get a gate pedal. Are you running into a mixer?

      Hi, Sofia! Sorry it has taken me a while to respond. Yes, SaxSmith is right, a preamp and noise gate would probably help if you don't already have these things. If you do, you might also try an EQ pedal or a compression pedal to cut out any offending frequencies. You might also try removing one pedal at a time to see if one specific pedal is causing the noise. Some older analog pedals can get overwhelmed by a microphone signal. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my video and good luck!

      Hi, Mohammed! Thanks so much! It's not any particular lick. It's just a lick I improvised using quartal harmony.

    You should really try an Intramic! It's a game changer!

      Yes, I've been watching some videos on those! I'd love to try one, but I don't have the money right now. What's your favorite thing about it?

    Do you have to dial in the key you will be playing in, on the Boss Harmonizer?

      You don't have to, but there is an option to do so.
