I used a lot of pedals back in the day when they were really big in late 70's and 80's like when Mike Brecker,Tom Scott and David Sanborn used them. I had my Cry baby Wah Wah, Small Stone phase shifter, Boss Chorus and Octaver. I originally used a Maestro Box lots of pre set effects like Fuzz tone, ,Bassoon, oboe , clarinet, flute and octave sounds but you had to use their mouthpieces with a transducer built in to them which were awful. Later when I switched to those pedals above I used a transducer that connected to my reed with almost like a fun tack substance.. Now I use the TC Helicon Voice Play live but it's a pain to program and it only has XLR connectors since it is really built for vocalists. I was thinking about getting the Boss Whammy pedal a sax player friend of mine likes it. I rather use effect pedals then spend time learning the EWI or Yamaha wind instrument!
I love you 😭. I just started messing with pedals and your videos are SUPER easy to follow. Really appreciate the effort and clarity you put into your content
As a guitar player myself, I found this very interesting. just loved the video: Well crafted, explained & creative as hell. Keep the good work and JAZZ On!🤘🏼🔥🎸
Great job. Loved it. I use a DBX Go Rack mainly with the Anti Feedback and as a final mic/line boost. When I play on other systems and using monitors live, the anti feedback works great. Whether using an AMT wireless, Shure SM57, Audix i5 or whatever. I do usually bring my own powered speaker monitor. They don't make the Go Rack anymore but you can still find them online used and new. No question a life saver without changing the sound. Also it's my DI at the end. Happy Playing. We Be Jammin!!!!!! Bottom line, I never have feedback anymore.
Interesting pedal chain setup. I was always told to put booster or overdrive pedals first in the chain and then modulation pedals after. I’m going to have to try your chain setup one day. I love these videos you’re putting out and the explanation with them.
Where can I buy pre loaded peddle boards, I guess what I'm asking is not where, but how can I buy one the board everything wired ready to go turnkey, plug in and play. Preamp reverb delay, etc.
This was really cool. Love the effects. Do you have a favourite effect to use? Would you ever play a pink saxophone? Looking forward to the next video. What other instruments do you want to play
I've been playing sax and guitar for 25 years. I have always been a pedal gear head with the guitar, but I've never branched out with the saxophone. I'm going to give it a try.
piezo will pick up all the mechanical noise. it is usually used in direct contact which is not what you want on a sax as it is the air that makes the noise
Love your videos. You are just too smart, haha. I am older and just in the last few years started using a pedalboard. I run my Woodwind condenser mic into a Voco Loco and have been using a PlethoraX5. It has no distortion. I have added a JIMS800. Someone suggested to run the Voco Loco through the send to the PlethoraX5 to the JIMS800 to my JBL PA speakers. This completely eliminates the Voco Loco Wet/Dry effects loop. This is a useful thing. Every video I have watched shows the effects loop running through the Voco Loco. Do you have any recommendations for this setup of the Voco Loco>Plethora> JIMS800>JBL PA? I play Native American Flutes/ Harmonicas and an EWI and just completely in over my head with all this technology. Oh, all are powered by a DC-7 power supply. Thanks, I hope you can help!
love your channel! thank you for the time and being super informative to simpletons such as me! i play the didgeridoo and am wondering if i can just get the boss rc505 through which i can add reverbs, delays and a few more fx while playing live?
Great video! BUT: You left out the most crucial part of the whole topic - HOW DO YOU CONNECT YOUR SAXOPHONE TO THE PEDALS??? I gig with a Shure Beta clip-on that requires Phantom power. Do you use a preamp in front of the pedals? This is the one piece of information that I need to get started. Please and thank you!
Nice run-through. A question on power supply. The QTron needs 24V and 100mA. How does it work with the MXR Brick you show, which has 9V outputs? Thanks
Thank you so much for the video, it is so instructing!!! One question: With the ART Tube MP + DI Box, do you get also some of your dry sound in the mix? Can you get a mix of wet/dry in the final output? Or this would be a reason to get something like the Voco Loco? What do you think about wet/dry mixes in general? Thank you once again!!!
Really enjoy your channel. I’ve recently added pedals as well (phaser, harmony, octave, reverb & delay). The one I’m struggling with is a wah pedal. I’ve tried Seamoon and MXR but when I unplug my headphones to listen thru amp I get continuous feedback. Sold pedals and still searching how to get wah sound without feedback. Help…..
Hi, Rick! I've struggled with that a little bit too. I have found that using an equalizer and/or compressor before the wah pedal helps. I also have just the right spot picked out on my Qtron+ where it doesn't feed back. Let me know how your wah journey goes!
@@cecilyterhune - I’ve been looking at the Qtron Nano. It actually has a volume knob on it which the larger ones don’t have. I’m wondering (hoping?) this may help with feedback. We shall see….
Interesting and helpful video thanks. I have never thought of trying an Overdrive pedal. Have you tried and compared the NativeAudio to any other brands of overdrive? Only a couple of seconds in the vid.
Thanks for checking out the video! I have played a few overdrive pedals and this has been my favorite one so far. I'm still doing some experimenting to really dial in my tone with dirt pedals.
I play trumpet and starting to use effects. My question is do you use a compressor pedal at all? If you do I do you set your compressor up. Thanks and keep doing a great job
Hi, Chris! That's awesome. I have used a compressor in a limited capacity. I think it might help when using sensitive pedals. Have you experimented much with a compressor? If so, what do you use it for?
@@cecilyterhune I have used a compressor on guitar. Compressor really helps even out the sound more on the guitar making all notes sound more equal in volume but I haven’t got to try it out on a trumpet was just worried it would mess with the dynamics of the horn.
Fun fact: if you want to get started but don't have much money, have a look at multi fx pedals like the zoom MS series, they have a lot of effects in 1 pedal
great video! thank you very much! Could someone kindly help me to understand my setup? I have a sax => microphone => Native instruments mk6 aduio interface => Digita Delay 8 effect => and krk rokit 5 active monitors. Can I get a sound with this setup? For now I see on mk6 that there is a signal but no sound :( Do I need some extra layer ?
Hello! Sorry for the delay. Were you able to get a sound? I have found in the past that too many active parts do not necessarily work well together. For instance, I had an active DI box that conflicted with my powered speaker. I switched to a passive DI and then it worked. Thanks for checking out the video and I hope you found some success!
Young lady you forgot compessor before pitch /octave and mic preamp .Many youtubers forget gain stage and a whole bunch of stuff when the amp gets turns on and your live and loud.

😅 thanks for this detail technicality, very logical explianation of what effect should be first and last, clear cut clips which we need more.😅❤
Thank you for watching and for your kind comments!
Thank you very much for sharing!!!
I use a lot of pedals connected to a pedal controller. That simplifies my playing live a lot!
Stay well!!

Hi, Carlos! Thanks so much for watching it! I'm glad you found some value in it as a guitarist! You too! Cheers!
Great. Never tried pedals before and had no idea how to start. Great tutorial for a beginner like me. Thanks!

Right on, Tim! I'm glad you're feedback free! Thanks for watching!
Behringer produces the Shark. Nice feedback killer, phantom power and other features. It´s a good thing to try. I use it regularly to connect my mic.

I also have Barcus Barry transducers that I've used With old tape loopers, digital digital Delay stand alones.
Killing as always. These videos are so good.
Thank you. I am not a sax player but enjoyed the video and the sounds. 😊
This is freakin' BRILLIANT Cecily! Great Job!
Thank you so much! I'm definitely trying to come out with useful pedal guides. I'm so glad you dug it!
Qtron plus with my little volca is tons of fun.
Amazing, who would have thought you could use effects pedals for a sax? Really colours the instrument in a good way. Love your playing as well 👌

I've been playing sax and guitar for 25 years. I have always been a pedal gear head with the guitar, but I've never branched out with the saxophone. I'm going to give it a try.
That's great! I'll bet you could make a killer board with everything you already have! Thanks for watching, Russell!
I've always been interested to see how sax would sound with a piezoelectric pickup and put through some effects.

Is there a pedal that contains all of that in one? Or at least reverb and looper?
Great video. Informative and entertaining.

Does anyone sell a whole Complete sax Pedalboard ready to go turnkey out of the box.
Can you share a good amp for sax gigs
Hello, Peter! I don't typically use an amp for gigs, but when I have, I've used my GK bass amp.
Interesting... Saxophone sound like trumpet when use overdrive 🤔
Thanks for watching! I hadn't thought of it that way, but I can definitely see that!
Years ago, I tried a flute with pickup through a fuzz box and it sounded rather like an oboe.
For me it sounds like a bad saxophone.
Natural sax distortion with a growl sounds much better.
This video motivated me as if I saw a rocky movie. thank you very much
Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching! Good luck to you!
