      How to properly protect batteries from temperatures in the paint booth during curing process when getting a new paint job? Car battery always seem to die the same day after fresh new paint job. How to prevent this?

    • @oK-tf3jj
      @oK-tf3jj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is this because the temperature in the paint booth drain the battery fast or because the auto body shop may routinely disconnect all customer car batteries during paint process and reconnect them when completely finished? If shops know that doing that is bad for modern cars, why do they do it? Or I guess the question is, are they supposed to do it to protect batteries from paint booth temperature?

    • @Bandolero318
      @Bandolero318 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lower gas mileage is not a problem as you could buy a good Toyota cheap from the early 2000's. Also parts are not a problem as you can buy aftermarket parts cheap. Get a good car then no problems passing inspection. I bought a 2003 car for $2000 instead of buying a new car as it would take me over 10 years to break even with the fuel savings alone. One thing though, you must be able to work on cars yourself when small things go wrong.

    FYI Scotty, the AstroAI Digital Clamp Meter, TRMS 6000 is advertised as an AC current meter only. Although the TRMS 6000 meter may be able to measure DC current the reason AstroAI indicates it is AC current only may be due to its inaccuracy when measuring DC current. Also the current scales on the TRMS 6000 meter are marked with a symbol indicating AC only; a letter "S" turned sideways. For it to indicate AC and DC there would be an underscore below the sideways letter "S". There are several other clamp meters advertised for under thirty dollars that do measure DC current.

    There’s something not right about this… As a rule, clamp meters generally CANNOT measure DC current (although some of them with a Hall Effect sensor built into the clamp CAN). The meter in the video FOR SURE can’t measure DC current - it can only measure AC current! There are no markings on the front of the meter to select DC current measurements. Even the user manual doesn’t list it as being DC current capable in the specs. Also… unless the parking lamps are LED, they should draw a LOT more than 0.49 amps!

    Scotty!
    This is fantastic! I remember, in the '60's-'70's, I had a cheap, simple multimeter that let me work for years on my VW Bugs; but now, unless I can find a Bug that's intact enough to be a daily driver, I guess I'm going to change with times, and get a clamp-around probe-meter. I had no idea things had mutated to this degree of complexity. Thanks for bringing this knowledge to the unmechanicaI masses. I guess that, in order to generate really complex problems, you have to have a computer.

    Service manual for my Honda says make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the urethane resin bumper cover, because if you accidentally hit one of the sensors in there that tells the computer when to deploy the air bag, the airbag might get deployed. Even more important if you are removing the actual bumper. Same thing if you are taking off any door panels. Right - the air bags can't deploy it they don't have power from the battery. If you disconnect the battery, the audio-visual unit may or may not need to be reset. Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn't. I don't know why. If it needs to be reset it displays a message saying so tells you how. The owners manual, yes the owners manual not just the service manual, also tells you how to reset the audio-visual system. All your pre-set radio stations will be lost though, so if it is important to you to have them, it is a good idea to write them down before disconnecting the battery. Personally I never use the pre-sets. I never tune for stations manually either. I just tell the tuner to scan, and then when the scanner reaches a station I like, I tell the scanner to stop there. So the audio-visual unit seems to be the main pain in the buttocks connected with disconnecting the battery, although even this doesn't happen all the time, it only happens sometimes. The other problem is that if you are waiting for the drive cycle to be completed so you can get your car inspected, you may have to wait longer, since the cycle may start from the beginning rather than from where it was when the battery was disconnected.

      Gardy Marra Yeah, a truck, but you do that to a new Mercedes or something ridiculous and you will definitely have problems. Battery tenders are the way to go with new cars that sit a long time.

    @Scotty Kilmer you are doing it wrong, you need to buy a clamp meter which measures in DC currents and in miliamps. You are measuring AC current which is a wrong measurement.

      It offers DC settings, they just don't work in "clamp" mode. At this price point that is hard to criticize. Do you have an alternate suggestion?

    • @GunnyNinja
      @GunnyNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@98triffid Yes. I bought the UNI-T UT210E. It reads low enough current for this purpose. Down to 1mA. I paid $32. How's that? Plus, pointing out a simple fact isn't criticism.

    • @GunnyNinja
      @GunnyNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dave P I set it to the amp scale and make sure I switch it to DC. That's it

    I had a Craftsman clamp-on ammeter years ago that was about half he size of the one Scotty is showing. It was great until the AA battery inside leaked onto the circuit board and rendered it useless.
