  • You may find some dusty green or brown corrosion on your battery, especially near the terminals or metal tie downs. If you discover this, it may be the result of an overcharge condition, undercharge condition, or excessive venting of the battery. This video shows you how to clean the battery up, why you should, and other places to check for additional corrosion, like the terminal ends and wires, that could cause more problems with your electrical system, even after you replace a battery!

*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*

I never heard of corrosion of the different terminals due to different over or under charge conditions. That’s interesting. Very cool test with the LED bulb to show the small current drain on the top of the battery! I never saw that before, which really makes you think about keeping the battery clean! Excellent video overall!

This is a great video! So informative and detailed yet easy enough for someone with little experience to understand. I especially appreciate the explanation of the causes of corrosion. The fact that I have corrosion on the positive terminal and the illustration of the need to take the battery out helped me decide to wait 2 days and get my voltage regulator checked vs. tackle the cleaning myself. Thanks for the helpful content!

One observation that I made was as the battery nears its END OF LIFE their increased off gassing from the battery and subsequently the top of the battery is "moistened" with acid from the battery and the corrosion increases at an alarming rate on both terminals but mostly on the positive terminal.

Thank you for taking the time to help people with their cars!
I'm a lifetime electrical guy and I would like to add: Voltage doesn't flow, current flows. A lot of people like the water analogy, so let's use that. Voltage would be analogous to pressure and just assume whatever the device that requires Voltage, is already designed for that Voltage (pressure) too little or too much voltage to the device, can cause issues. However, current that flows to devices, can vary depending on certain factors. For instance, your stereo will use less current when the volume is low and more when the volume is high. Windshield wipers: less current on low than high, etc. You battery delivers more current (flow), through the cable, the more devices it's powering, could be: headlamps + radio + wipers + defrost. The alternator is wired in parallel to the battery, so it powers items, or shares the load, when the engine is running.

I know I’m 2 years late. But for a week now my battery has been having issues cranking. Every morning it takes a couple seconds to turn over. I looked at my battery and saw a lot of corrosion on my positive(RED) side but none on my negative (BLACK) side.
Does that mean that I am over working my alternator?
Because I drive about 1 hr round trip to my 2 jobs. It’s also hot and humid outside, so I have my A/C on full blast, I also use my Apple CarPlay to listen to audiobooks and music, as well as use my high beams at night to get from one job to the other.

If corrosion happens because the caustic gasses escape the battery and causes the terminals to corrode...why does it have to mean over charging or under charging???? The corrosion will happen and it doesn't "have to" mean it's being under charged or over charged.

If u flip that flat plate on universal on neg terminal, 'mountain' bump becomes a 'valley' bump & cable will fit tighter. Moisture on top is ALSO from overfilling cells w/water. Fill enuf to cover plates but BELOW Delco eye, this allows for expansion. Jst keep battery clean & DRY. Jst sayn.👍

So don’t use universal connectors. Especially on modern autos with computers bc :
1: You might do a bad job installing it. That applies to any connecter.
2: Moisture can get inside the wire insulation that doesn’t fully enclose the wire. They’re definitely still using non enclosed connections on modern.
You laid a flat smashed ground wire on the connection to show it won’t be tight. On top of a clearly rounded channel made for the wire. How about twisting it back tight and installing it properly.
The the positive connection to the terminal which wasn’t addressed can be removed independently from the other connections on the positive and replaced.
Look how easy it is but… make sure you only use dealer authorized parts even if they are the same quality. Or else… 😂

I was hoping a better explanation of how to use dielectric grease would have been mentioned. Dielectric grease is an *insulator*, so it's very important that the contact areas don't have any on them. It was done right, but there was no mention of what would happen if done incorrectly. You could melt down your battery terminal if there's dielectric grease between the post and the connector while trying to turn it over.

Couple weeks ago my car wouldn't start. Took it to get checked and it was the diodes, so i replaced the alternator and still nothing. So i replaced the battery thinking it drained and same thing. well yes it was the terminals that were dirty and also the negative terminal was broken. Saddest part the tech who replaced the battery failed to mentioned it because it wasn't part of his job. 🤦‍♂️lesson learned start by the terminals and battery.

When electricity passed through dissimilar metals “Galvanic Corrosion” begins. The most active metal will corrode at an accelerated rate. Traditional battery connectors are lead, with the locking device made of steel/zinc, dissimilar metals. Gator Loc™ is constructed with no exposed dissimilar materials, leaving no possibility for corrosion.
