Here’s a fix that off-roaders should pay particular attention to... We hit a sharp rock once and punched a hole in the oil pan. The hole was about and inch in diameter. After pulling the pan off to inspect the damage, noticed a package of Marine-Tex sitting on the shelf above the work bench. Picked it up and saw the statement that it can be used to patch a hole in most anything. Followed the directions and used it to fill the hole in the oil pan. Let it harden good and solid for a day and reinstalled the pan. Filled the crank case and Shazam, it held! The car continued that way for several years without leaking a single drop. Amazing stuff!
@@Bob-gn8ph this episode that I experienced was way back in the early 1970s. I’d never even heard the word “epoxy” before at that point and had no idea about any such compound. But I became a believer and have used MarineTex for all kinds of stuff since.

I was lucky to have a father that was an master mechanic. Not only did he teach me tips and tricks I inherited his mindset as well..I do all my own repairs except things like alignments and tires which I don't have the equipment to do. Saves a ton of cash. The aluminum seal powder is used in new cars or at least it was. Everytime I do a flush and fill I use that stuff. I also wash the engine at the car wash 2 or 3 times a year to keep everything clean. This keeps the hoses from being attacked by dirt and grime. Have 240,000 miles on my car and I changed only the lower hose only because I needed to take it off to do a flush and fill and it was 12 years old. Also use the spring clips. They shrink and expand with the hose instead of cutting into the hose.
I do my own tyre maintenance. And at first glance I look not to have the tools neither. However, I have a "techniques over technology" mindset that let me do that job regardless.
Glad to see someone I came across such as yourself that seems very knowledgeable about what vehicles are good/bad has the same taste in cars. I bought a 2005 matrix with 107k on it 5 years ago for $3800 dollars...priceless for cost/benefit I'll just keep it forever.
Hi Scotty, Just have to bring something up on what I heard you say more than once on your channel. "The plastic decorative cover on the top of engines are junk and useless." I agree. Here's why. Hot air and heat rises. My thought is that these covers help keep heat and hot air confined and close to the engine assembly, in turn hampering the cooling of the engine assembly. Here in Wisconsin, I take my engine covers off during the summer and put them back on during the winter. In the summer, I want as mush air flow around my engine as possible. Removing these silly unvented and unlouvered covers is one way of doing that. P.S. Nice sign above your garage door.

Scotty, to prevent the headlights from fogging, get a shop to apply 3M ClearMask on them. All of our cars have new headlights though they are at least six years old in an environment of intense sun, sand blasting dust, and salt.

This mans attitude, gestures, and voice are the perfect combo for keeping attention. Well done. I dont really care about any of the real points behind the videos this dude just hits my funny bone and grabs/keeps attention
I’ve been ripped off by mechanics so much it’s pitiful. Even the dealership, it’s sad. I want to learn to work on my car & truck… Love this channel a lot!
To work on your own vehicles, you'll need some basics: 3-ton jack, good jackstands, rubber wheel chucks, 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets and sockets, hand wrenches, crescent wrench, breaker bar, torque wrench (maybe), Torx bits, spark plug socket, serpentine belt tool, C-clamp for brake job, blue loctite, WD-40, brake parts cleaner, all purpose grease, silicone grease, etc... Not too much, but buying it all at once it might seem a lot. For me, replacing brake pads is the easiest job with the biggest cost savings. TH-cam has many, many videos to show the way on a variety of repairs. And you can take a leap of faith on some things: I once tore my starter apart and cleaned and lubed it and put it back together and it lasted another 2 years. Note: I don't have a lift, and working on your car laying on your back on your garage floor is next-level uncomfortable. But you WILL save money that an unscrupulous mechanic would otherwise get, and you get the satisfaction of learning and doing it yourself.
The dealership/stealership will always rip you off, always. Buy yourself a good craftsman tool kit for a few hundred dollars and you'll be able to fix pretty much anything. If you need to, take pictures as you are taking things apart and you can always refer to them in the opposite order to put things back together, at least until you get the hang of it.
Power steering leak I my jeep for months. An least 2 of them was usin leak sealing fluid. Finally stopped leaking for years lol. Only thing about the radiator stop leak is engine can overheat from it being thinner holes an clogs.
0:35 small note: it would probably be better to hold things like that *still* so we can see what you’re talking about. 😉 Some of us don’t have image stabilization on our phones installed yet. Re: ATP AT-205 reseal 3:45 Bar’s Leak Liquid Aluminum Radiator and Water Core stop leak 6:44 Plexus plastic cleaner and polish.
I’m almost 60 years old and I’m getting my first car 1981 Firebird fixed up . I’ve had it for 42 years. I’m looking into purchasing the sealants. Thanks for the information!
For the sceptics, I can vouch for the AT-205 Re-Sealer. My '02 Ford Ranger had a rear main oil seal leak, literally a puddle of oil under the truck every time I drove it. I was keeping an oil pan under it at all times. Saw AT-205 on here and other testing vids, got some at Advanced Auto and within 2 short drives it stopped leaking completely, not a drop. I was looking at 6 hours labor (~$130/hr) at a minimum to pay a shop to put new seals in. Time will tell how long it stops the leak for though.
Hay Scotty, your right, that's what happens when you paint clear K2 stuff, on your headlights, they fade and crack in time. It happen to my buddy and ya" no more headlamps and well they had to be replaced..! Big bucks, but ha" you need 'um.
As a father of 4 girls and 2 boys I made sure that they have a good idea how to maintain/repair their vehicles! . Any parent who has not needs to be committed. I have a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe with 364,876.3 miles bandit still runs great.
Another important thing to have in a garage is a service manual for every vehicle you own. They have all sorts of valuable information in them. Tuneup specs, torque sequences and torque specs, types of fluid to use and how much. Repairs . They are well worth the money.
My motorcycle fork seals started leaking badly. I changed the fork oil and added this AT-205 in a proportional amount. The leaks absolutly stopped. Incredible. Thanks Scotty.
First off I want to say i am a huge fan of yours. My father passed away in April and he told me to take good care of his 2003 Monte Carlo. Let me tell you, this has been a huge project for me. Since my dad was my mechanic, I never had to take my car in to the shop. I just took it to him. Well now when I have a question or a problem, I am left alone and kinda of like what am I going to do. So that's how I found you. And thank God I did because you are amazing. Anything I want to know about my dad's car I turn to you. So great job and keep up the good work. Now my question is, I put some radiator leak fix stuff I. My radiator and now when it's running, it doesn't cycle through the radiator. So what shall I do? If you have time to answer my question, great, if not I understand. Thank you Nickole Adams
Thank you for all your tips, suggestions and great explanations!! Even for me that do not know anything, about engines, cars, oils, mechanic parts, fluids, etc., at all!! Understood everything you Sir, mentioned.Thank you kindly! Blessings always to you🙆!!
Thanks Scotty . Watching your videos have educated me so much that now when I have issues the mechanics I speak with get into the same wavelength . Thanks Scotty.
I appreciate you Sir! You are what I hope to be one day. Thank you for passing on the knowledge you have to others. It has been said that a person is valued by the affect he has on others. You Sir have value above and beyond any one person that I have met so far. Thank you.
Scotty i am a believer i dis your advice on my 2017 Durango Citadel. For years of having my Durango I’ve been hearing thing clicking on my left rear whenever there is a bump. So after watching this video I bought one and start spraying it to all the rubber bushings, man to my surprise, it went away!! I’m still going to watch your video and listen to all your advice coz i know you are for real!! God bless and more power!!!
My great uncle, taught mh dad that you can pour a cap full of dot 3 brake fluid in with your transmission fluid on older automatics and it can make your oil rings swell up and make your transmission stop slipping between gears.
I actually had a person bring a ford focus in and they had the dealership install a new power steering pump cause it was leaking turned out it still leaked after installing new pump the mechanic at Ford dealership installed the nylon washer incorrectly and caused a leak from new pump but that little nylon washer was the issue the whole time but why do a replacement of just a dollar part when you can overcharge for unnecessary parts
Plexus was standard equipment over 2 decades ago on our aircraft and helicopters, plus was used to clean, protect the lexan covers on emergency equipment on our patrol units. Best stuff ever.
2002 chevy tahoe, rear main seal leak, l bought 2 bottles of this ATP & it didn't work for me, it depends on how bad the leak is, so l waited until l changed the transmission, and l took advantage and changed the rear main seal, and now, NO LEAK, but like Scott said, it primarily depends on the P.S.I. 1st and foremost
@Bobby Knuckles GMT800's trucks are extremely solid vehicles and Scotty even said that. Just because it isn't a Toyota doesn't mean its a pile of junk.
Another good product for plastic is PlastX. It's made mostly for headlights. It's also good for filling over clear-coat scratches! I'll use it and then wax it to seal the filler in and it usually holds up for a few months.
Scotty, love your videos. Watched dozens of them already. Only thing I might slightly disagree with you on is Nissan cars. I’ve owned 89 Maxima, 94 Altima, 99 Maxima, 04 Altima 2.5. They’ve all been really reliable, minimal repairs. The 89 Max was the best car I’ve ever owned. My ‘04 is 17 years old, still going strong at 107,000 miles.I think you may be talking about recent years more than 80s and 90s, but don’t know if you have any thoughts about this...Want to see if I’m delusional or not. (Maximas were made in Japan. Altimas in Tennessee.)
OK, thx Scotty. Have you tried to but any AT-205 lately? Unavailable other than from gouge artists on E-bay. What's a good alternative? Lubeguard Seal Fixx? Blue Devil Oil Stop Leak? They both look to be glycol esters which is what I think AT-205 is. Thx. Good channel.
Bars Leaks was probably the first repair additive I ever used. It was as good as you say back then 58 years ago and still gets the occasional radiator repaired …
Wow! Scotty! I Plexus on my brand new Honda CBR1000 super sport bike. I actually washed the motorcycle and I sprayed that stuff all over the painted fairings and that bag just shines like crystal! It doesn't hurt a thing, in fact, it protects the whole bike! I highly recommend it! But as for the seal conditioner, what have you got to lose? I have you similar products that swell the seal and then the seal shrinks and the leak gets worse but this stuff looks promising . If you're facing a complicated, expensive repair, give it a try. See what happens. But I love when you cover products. Take care
Exactly Bill Frank. Only use stuff like this in emergency or old vehicles and if u are like me can't afford to get it fixed the right way. But yeah old beater with a heater give it a shot.

This mans attitude, gestures, and voice are the perfect combo for keeping attention. Well done. I dont really care about any of the real points behind the videos this dude just hits my funny bone and grabs/keeps attention
This stuff works, stopped my main seal leak. Thanks Scotty.
Some of us don’t have image stabilization on our phones installed yet.

THANK YOU
Yes thank you!!
I agree but those hands GOTTA MOVE😀
No kidding
I was getting dizzy....thank you for the info.
I used to just watch these, but now I try and keep up with Scotty's arm movements at the same time. Recently added 2lb weights ..... looking good!! :)
I love Scotty Kilmer! He is a true character with all of best interests at heart. God Love Scotty!
I’m almost 60 years old and I’m getting my first car 1981 Firebird fixed up . I’ve had it for 42 years. I’m looking into purchasing the sealants. Thanks for the information!
I can honestly say that AT 205 sealer does work! I too have seen it work many times!
ATP-205 Re-Seal is a really good product
👍
great video scotty--- could you show the product without moving?? or list it below the video. thanks for your wisdom
What I really want to know is can we harness the energy of Scottys arm's??
I reckon he'd be able to power a Toyota no problem😄
For the sceptics, I can vouch for the AT-205 Re-Sealer. My '02 Ford Ranger had a rear main oil seal leak, literally a puddle of oil under the truck every time I drove it. I was keeping an oil pan under it at all times. Saw AT-205 on here and other testing vids, got some at Advanced Auto and within 2 short drives it stopped leaking completely, not a drop. I was looking at 6 hours labor (~$130/hr) at a minimum to pay a shop to put new seals in. Time will tell how long it stops the leak for though.
Will it work for front main seals ??? I got a 6 hour job coming up .. hoping i wont need to do it..!!!
Every oil change
Hay Scotty, your right, that's what happens when you paint clear K2 stuff, on your headlights, they fade and crack in time. It happen to my buddy and ya" no more headlamps and well they had to be replaced..! Big bucks, but ha" you need 'um.
Your channel will help keep My newly bought 05' Subaru Forester in tip top shape! You're the mechanic I need 💸
Hey Scotty love your channel what an addiction
Hello and thanks!
Hey Scotty ATP A 205 won’t harm new cam seals I have a leak on the rear main seal
Scotty, your videos are the best! Thank you for helping so many people.
As a father of 4 girls and 2 boys I made sure that they have a good idea how to maintain/repair their vehicles! .
Any parent who has not needs to be committed.
I have a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe with 364,876.3 miles bandit still runs great.
You rock Scotty. I love the way you explain things thoroughly. Thank you for great videos.
Thank - You Scotty! You're the best! God bless you and your family!
5 secrets from Scotty:
1) Get a Toyota
2) Get a Lexus
3) Repeat 1
4) Repeat 2
5) Repeat 1 and 2 and by this time you will hit the grave
I take it you were one of the people who downvoted the video without watching it?
@@justice4pixels I take it that you drive a beater Corolla with 379,000 miles, broken fender and a Maaco paint job with no clear coat on it.
😂✔️🍻
I finally listened and bought a Toyota Avalon XSE. I figure this car will outlive me.
Amen 🙌
PLEXUS works great on the interior of the windshield!
AT-205 RE-SEAL
Hey scotty, i used dot3 brake fluid 3 covers lockheed. An the power stering leak stop.. it works like a charm
Another important thing to have in a garage is a service manual for every vehicle you own. They have all sorts of valuable information in them. Tuneup specs, torque sequences and torque specs, types of fluid to use and how much. Repairs . They are well worth the money.
Legends come and go! Scotty is an epic legend!

Thank you.
It's nice for even a old handyman to get more input from another mechanic, thank's for all you're tips👌
So who tried to look at the label while he’s holding it ? 😂 he couldn’t hold still long enough to read it
I tried 10 times

AT-205
Can anyone tell what that stuff is
One of the guys said in response comments I think is ATP 240 but check the comments to be 4 sure fam have a great night
It's ATP AT -205 RE-seal
Scottys the man. I’ve been watching him for years
I actually had a person bring a ford focus in and they had the dealership install a new power steering pump cause it was leaking turned out it still leaked after installing new pump the mechanic at Ford dealership installed the nylon washer incorrectly and caused a leak from new pump but that little nylon washer was the issue the whole time but why do a replacement of just a dollar part when you can overcharge for unnecessary parts
Plexus was standard equipment over 2 decades ago on our aircraft and helicopters, plus was used to clean, protect the lexan covers on emergency equipment on our patrol units. Best stuff ever.
Just picked up two bottles for spray type application. Grommets, mounts, window, and door seals.
Thank you so much Scotty! I'm going to start spoon feeding my Audi this haha 😄 luckily the 3.2 V6 is still hanging on at 155k
Thanks scotty very useful information... as a lady driver it teaches me what to look for etc
Those lexus headlights look amazing Scotty !!!
He replaced those
What would one use on a rack and pinion that is leaking. Do the power steering stop leak things work? And if so which one? Lucas or that devil stuff?
Definitely the most credible mechanic on here.
I got a good laugh when Scotty said "REARENDS" and a picture of big donk butt pops up on the screen.
Haha!!👍🏿
hahah me too
WAP
Me too
yea that just sticks in your brain. nasty scotty.
I wish I knew that 20 years, I use to change the seals all the time.
Well that's just brilliant. It makes total sense when you explain it like that.
How is Scotty not the number 1 channel I have learned so much saved god knows how much
Appreciated the STNG "To be continued..." :) The multi-part episodes were the best. So much room for an extended exploit of creative license.
Great video, can you use the AT205 preemptive. ?? ahead of any issues? Thanks Scotty!
4:30 scotty has used dab pens for years
ive owned that same pen too lol
LMAOOO HE’S FUNNY ASF😭😂
Explains the glasses
he's been telling us he's the biggest pothead for years!! lol
What is dab pens?
@@trunks8512 can explain why he’s so hyped and into the video !
Another good product for plastic is PlastX. It's made mostly for headlights. It's also good for filling over clear-coat scratches! I'll use it and then wax it to seal the filler in and it usually holds up for a few months.
Scotty is the most honest and entertaining guy who talks automotive. He knows his stuff 😉
Had a 96 Maxima....put 476,000 miles on it. Somebody hit me and totaled the car,smh
@@odinbolt4380 that's a shame. But I guess with 476000 miles, there's not much residual value from an insurance standpoint.
I think those were pre Renault years. We've had a 96 maxima, and a 05 pathfinder. Both excellent vehicles.
I owned a 2015 Versa Note, from 3K to 140K, no issues besides regular maintenance
Daughter's 06' maxima 180k mi going strong until it got totaled. 06' altima 118k mi blew head gasket 😡
Scotty you are the man and congratulations on your over 4 million SUBS ! That’s truly amazing huh !
Thanks for these awesome tips, Scotty..esp. the headlight tip. Hubby and I love your channel! Thanks again! 👍😊🚘
Lol anyone else notice how Lit Up Scotty was in this vid!? A man after my own heart. He was knee deep past a few, if you catch my drift
i love those heavy duty rear ends!
Bars Leaks was probably the first repair additive I ever used. It was as good as you say back then 58 years ago and still gets the occasional radiator repaired …
Scotty is the only youtuber that I hit like before watching the video!
I do that too...
@@Tsch6373i was in the car business so whatever he say about Toyota it's true:)
Dayum! I thought I was the only one.
Same here 😂
You are so smart and have so much knowledge. Thank you for sharing! I only wish you still lived in Texas!
Wow! Take care
Hey Scotty! Do you recommend AT205 as a preventative measure before a problem is present?
That’s my question, also any reason not to use it to prevent leaks
If it ain't broke dont fix it
Exactly Bill Frank. Only use stuff like this in emergency or old vehicles and if u are like me can't afford to get it fixed the right way. But yeah old beater with a heater give it a shot.
Hey Scotty isn't it wise to use only distilled water with anti freeze and other additives to keep corrision down on the cooling system?
Scotty, that was only 3 secrets, you're already using Tennessee arithmetic !
At the end of this video, it says "to be continued"...
@@Tsch6373
