    I agree with you. The signal chain options are great with the Boss. I am looking to simplify my gear (need another JMP-1? Kidding, I would not part with mine) and for my everyday situation including recording the Boss seems to be a much better and space saving solution. Ideally I want to just have one unit I can record directly with, be it to my Tascam DP-32 or to my Laptop.
    I also like the amp sounds of the Boss more than the HX Stomp. Thanks for comparing the two units, I was looking for a comparison like that. Your playing is great.

      "In a professional situation".
      Whatever that means. I do not know about the Boss, but the Line 6 Helix/HX devices work as DIs on their own. I guess the Boss does the same (in this case minus balancing the signal).

    I purchased the gt 1000 yesterday, its the best pedal ive ever used. I used the sounds straight out the box really nice machine.
    Although im not someone who is very good at programming in different tones, hopefully ill get there in the end.
    Honestly ive always been big on organic sounds straight from the amp with a direct signal, But this GT 1000 is quite a nice piece of kit. You could have lots of fun with that
    Equally im sure you could do the same on some of these other units. But the one I got is the Boss and I was pleasantly surprised, Enjoy

    Great video, thanks Leo! Folks considering the GT-1000 core should be aware that the 24 blocks isn’t 24 of whatever you want (Boss marketing materials don’t make that clear, though it is clear in the manual). For example, four blocks are dedicated to delay, but are only of one type of delay (they can’t be switched to the many cool types of delays in the unit). This may be fine for many players, but if you are a person who wants a lot of freedom to experiment (as I’m doing with ambient sounds) you may want to read the GT-1000 core manual to understand how the 24 works before buying it. I found it a bit inflexible for my intended use. In a similar price range, I am looking into the Line 6 HX effects (different than the HX stomp Leo covered in this video-it has up to 9 blocks depending on DSP load of what effects are in use, but no amp models) as an alternative.

    A very good video! I think that Boss Core sounds slightly better, and could be my favorite choice for recording, as i love to record two different signal paths of the same part. For live playing, maybe i'll choose the new Pod Go, 'cause it has more switch and the sound should be similar to the hx stomp. Greetings from Italy!

    Thanks a lot for the cool video.I'm also torn between the HX Stomp and the GT-1000Core, but there are still a few things I wasn't able to find the information I'm looking for. Maybe you can help? I'm wondering how the 2 compare in terms of how well the harmonizer tracks (especially for the higher register of 6-String Bass), on the HX Stomp it seems to work quite nicely (so I heard). I've had some not so good experiences with Boss harmonizers back in the day. Did you try to program custom scales on the units, how well does that work? I'm also wondering about AUX IN on the GT, the handbooks says that you can use the loops as AUX IN. I'd really like to connect my cell phone to the unit, mainly for practice. Sorry for the many questions, but you seem to be very knowledgeable with both of these units :D

    This comparison was super helpful. I’m looking at the Boss GT1000 Core or possibly the MS3 to replace a Digitech RP360XP and tri parallel mixer, especially the MS3 can handle the routing mixing that the Tri Mic currently does for me. I’m wondering if the specific routing on the GT1000 Core is recalled on a preset basis. I’d love to be able to use it where some patches would use the sends and returns differently, in some cases not send while receiving and not necessarily receive when sending. The idea being I could use the sends as a splitter and the returns as a sub mixer which is basically how I use the tri mix in my setup

    Hello Leo, many thanks for your great video, very interesting and informative!
    I have a couple of questione regarding the missing balanced outs on the Boss (which is a real shame, I agree with you...):
    - what is your opinion by sending the Boss L/R outs signal to a good stereo passive DI box ? Of course I understand that it would be an extra cost to consider, and an extra cable connections/space on the pedalbord, but in my opinion the Boss could be really unbeatable this way...
    - also, what do think about using a stomp preamp. (which often has included a DI out) to be connected after the Boss L/R outs ? (I mean in substitution of a “pure” DI box).
    Many thanks for your answer!

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roberto, thank you!
      Well, I don't have too much experience with DI boxes. Nevertheless, I will try to answer.
      > sending LR to a DI box: I think it would work, nevertheless for sure you need very short cable to connect the DI Box and you need a very good DI box that does not color the sound
      > Stomp preamp: I'm not convinced by the stomp preamp, as it would color the sound, and you are gonna loose the stereo out, unless you use two of them or a stereo one...
      In my opinion another solution would be to put 2 cab simulators after the GT 1000 (like a cab M) so that other than adding the XLR out, you are also adding mics, cabs, etc. I mean you adding value to this solution and you are not using it only as a DI...of course you are gonna spend more money...
      Thank you!

    Great review Leo. ‘Grande’. Ive used both at the same time, and ended up selling my HX stomp. I prefer the tonality of the GT1000Core over the HX. I prefer having more presets that i can then modify vs more amps. Its worth mentioning that it did take some work getting the out balance on the GT1000 to reduce hissing when I first set it up on an amp. (Two rock studio sig + Boogie Fillmore) un Saluto dal Canada

    The GT-1000 blows the stomp away IMO. You can run all 24 effects blocks at the same time and switch to a completely different preset with no latency. No need for snapshots and you can have way more complicated signal paths and effects running. Dual amps. Parallel signal chains within parallel signal chains… it’s ridiculous what you can do. Totally blows the stomp away

      I've got the HX Stomp, and it sounds brilliant. I'm sure you could dial in identical sounds on either one if you fiddled enough, but the 24 blocks vs 8 is a massive advantage. Also the footswitch arrangements: hitting 2 buttons together to get the tuner on the boss, vs one dedicated tuner button on the stomp is another win for the boss, I think. When you only have 3 foot switches, flexibility is vital. I'm hoping Line 6 might bring out something the same size with a bigger screen and a lot more processing power. The DSP in the Stomp is getting quite dated now.

    Thanks for such an entertaining and informative comparison your playing and technical knowledge is top notch.
    I have one question regarding the Core, how does it perform in four-cable-method with a valve amplifier? I purchased an HX Stomp and while the unit was great with a set of headphones or with FRFR powered speakers it seemed to rob volume and high end frequency from my signal in 4CM. Which was a shame because I couldn't justify the price if I wasn't going to sell off most of my pedals. I can see why so many people love it for recording or silent stage use though and it was clear that 4CM was not a focus for Line 6.
    I haven't seen much discussion of the Core in 4CM and I really hope Boss put their experience as pedal manufacturers to use.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I didn't notice differences in the 4CM. As far as I know the 4CM also heavily depends on the quality of the effect loop of the amp, that could drain some tone if it is not of an high quality.
      Thank you for your question!

    • @SuicideVan
      @SuicideVan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeoGibsonGtr thanks for the response, Leo. I honestly must plead to ignorance on the quality of the FX loop in my amplifier. I use a Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 combo, and I'm hoping that as a Mesa it's a quality set up, the manual says it is valve driven buffered and I've never noticed any tonal difference using my more traditional time based effects pedals.

    I play bass. The task arose to make sure that the processed bass guitar signal (EQ, compressor, amplifier, cabsim) goes to one channel, and effects based on the same signal go to the other channel (EQ, compressor, harmonization with a separate pedal, synthesizer with a separate pedal, amplifier, reverb, delay, cabsim). That is, in addition to the bass part, you can fill the space between the bass and the lead guitar with some additional sounds. And only the boss is good for this, because the stomp simply doesn't have enough blocks to do it all at the same time.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, well I don't use many effects. Typically I use overdrives, chorus delay and reverb. ive got both core and helix rack . the helix is more immediate ,presets sound ready to go. but the sounds can be a bit flat and 1 dimensional , pushed in the mids and lacking depth . but loud and punch through the mix well . this mid focus is why modern metal kinds love it I think . also its strange the way it allocates and runs out of dsp , your building patches and suddenly your stuck with 3 reverb choices because something else stole the dsp . the boss if richer , deeper , more detailed and more low/low mid information . more efx blocks and importantly everything that's there is there and everything can be turned on at once . seamless patch changing as well . but its presets suck and the learning curve is steeper . you have to tweak it and work and make your own sounds . either is great , all the modellers are great these days but i feel like the core rewards a bit more if you put the time and effort in while stomp hits the wall of its capabilities quicker , especially the stomp which is half a normal helix

    Well, to me, basic tone is everything - anything else can be "fixed" by DI Boxes etc. One big question I have is that with aging eyes which screen is easiest in real world use? By that I mean as opposed to kneeling on the floor at home trying to figure it out up close?
    Thanks for the great comparison, as someone else said it provides real food for thought. Pete.

      Hi Pete, thank you so much and I'm happy that you like the video! Good point about the screen and the aging eyes....maybe that's the reason why I typically use the compute app...with big screens....
      Thank you!

    As always a great video. Actually I think both sound great. The HX Stomp was nice with only the Plexi, but when the GT 1000 Core had an additional TS 808 it sounded also great in the Demo Song and better than the Line6 in my Opinion.

    I own the GT-1000 and it does sound digital and fizzy on some amp models. You can hear it on this demo. It's still dragging along a little of that cocked wah sound from the GT-10 and GT-100. I think it can be tamed with a little knowledge of how to set up the output, eq and ir's. In this video the Line 6 Stomp sounded a little more natural but I think it has to do with voicing because it didn't sound like a true plexi either, just a good less shrill distortiion. It was still digital sounding too but not as much in the higher register like the Boss. I have heard that the feel of the Boss is more like playing a tube amp, but I really want to try a Helix LT and compare. Just like it's predecessors, the GT-1000 effects are great! The distortions, and overdrives sound more true and natural than the amp models. Hopefully Boss will update the amp models as technology gets better. The Core and Stomp are kinds pricey for such a small pedal with so few foot switches. Go for the full size GT-1000 or the Helix LT, especially if a multi-effects unit is going to be your main rig. I have owned the GT-8, GT-10, GT-100 and the GT-1000 and have had fun with them all. The GT--1000 is like the GT-100 but with the blanket taken off the speaker as it does sound more hi-fi. I think either unit in this video will work and sound fine though, especially if just being used for effects using the 4-cable method into a nice tube amp.

      JamminJman, I currently have the Boss GT-10 and always felt a little disappointed in the clarity of the sound because of the cocked wah effect. I also noticed that it was present even when everything in the signal chain was turned off. The difference became apparent when I plugged my guitar directly into an audio interface vs. through the GT-10 and then into the interface. That being said, did you think the GT-1000 was a huge upgrade from the GT-10?

    • @jamminjay
      @jamminjay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@albertlee5439 It's way better than the GT-10. They aren't even in the same league. I have been learning more about this thing and with some patience it can be programmed to get some amazing tone. I have it running through a PA Amp and 2 old Genz Benz 1x12 guitar cabinets, so the tone is getting colored by that. I want to get a FRFR speaker and see how clear it will sound in comparison.

    Hi Leo, thanks. In case you know: I am trying a boss gtcore 1000 - is it correct that you cannot have two completely separate paths for the input R and the input L? Like, two different instruments plugged with two separate paths? I don't see how to separate them through he divider

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rossella, good question...I'm not completely sure...but you should be able to do it using the send/return object in the signal chain and then using as an input for your instruments the returns of the GT 1000 core.

    I played the hx stomp and was just so blown away by it. Used a deluxe reverb cab and amp sim along with several effects and it sounds better than my own rig. I think for at least the hx stomp if you want a certain sound you can get but does a take a lot of tweaking but that's part of the fun
