The thing about thunderbolt is that other gundam series tell us that there is no right and wrong side, only humans, but they always make the protagonist a good guy and the side is usually fed. But Thunderbolt characters are so messed up and controversial, you can barely tell whos right and wrong. A true 50/50
I mean, the Zeon soldiers depicted here are fighting for a regime that opened up the war with gassing a neutral colony to drop it on Earth. But I suppose its a lot more gray in the very narrow context of this particular series, aside from the whole reason why the Mor's brotherhood exists in the first place lol.
To be fair, the Zeon movement likely would have been far more sympathetic had it not been hijacked by Zabi family shortly after its founding. They have also been the ones who have typically enacted operations and plans that would have, and in some cases did, resulted in lots of people dying. An obvious example was the colony drop on Australia, and Char's attempt to drop Axis on the Earth as a follow-up. More recently, we have Full Frontal's 'plan' to create a federation between the various colonies and halt all resources going to Earth to rebuild it. Their overall goals are noble, but their methods for achieving them have just gotten worse as time went on.

I love it so much when a Zaku manages to go toe to toe with a Gundam. They're usually depicted like such trash that we tend to forget Zaku is a warmachine also!
Zaku are hands down my fav design, always felt like they were under dogs fighting a boss. A great pilot with a good machine beating a good pilot with a great machine always stands out to me.

He knows what the war is really about and what it - what he - is really doing and what its worth in the end. He takes delight in the lives he takes, but he's also one of the only soldiers who isn't operating on a sunk cost fallacy that necessitates those lives mean less compared to "the greater picture."
Full armor gundam thought he was king. Then psycho woke up fully armed choosing violence. He squared up wanting the smoke and got a w for a few moments before biting the dust themself. This is how I saw it.
Daryl Lorenz and Io Fleming are both human, and human effort is the heart and soul of Gundam. Trying to be Tomino-centric with post-Tomino Gundam ignores how much human emotion, expression, and strength radiates from both Tomino and post-Tomino Gundam.

still definitely one of the most intense mecha battles I've ever watched, honestly wish their were a game that could capture this level of action within it. Armored core 6 multiplayer was close, but I think it was still missing the edge of your seat type of gameplay.

And the same can be said for the people who made most gundam series. Most of the gundam stories aren’t actually anti war. This one included but for the same reasons gundam unicorn isn’t anti war. Yes, but you’re better off understanding the One Year War lore stuff first as there are numerous references and nods to OYW things and the toggling between the two warring factions can be jarring to the uninitiated. If you’re speed running, you can probably just watch the Orgin series and OG Gundam complation movies first before you watch this. Overall, still worth watching without any knowledge, I’ve had friends watch it with no idea on the lore and enjoyed it.
The infamous MS-06 Zaku II is a "grunt" mobile suit of Zeon (basically space Nazis). Here is the Psycho Zaku, a cracked up version of it which requires a quadriplegic to pilot in exchange of increased input and mobility. Its pilot is a decent person though, and we're all secretly rooting for underdogs taking on a one man army machine.
And? It still had a decent story and some of the scenes actually were good (not better then more of the 2010-17 animations) but it was really cool for a series made in 2002, not to mention 50 episodes, there's gonna be budget cuts man
