Thank you so much for making this video! My son is sixteen and he wants to be a full time TH-cam creator, but he's lazy. I sent him this with a reminder that if he REALLY wants to be a TH-camr then he HAS to work, it's not just going to fall into his lap.

I've had similar conversations with younger people in my life who want to be a TH-camr/Influencer because it's easy money 😅 All you have to do is get followers, and that's so easy! Then brands will send you thousands! Brilliant! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Kudos to you 💙

Thank you for NOT saying that you need to upload a video every day. So many people in their “grow your channel” guides recommend this, and I hate that advice. If you have any responsibilities, such as work or children, it’s just not possible without sacrificing quality in a big way. Do I want to make this a full time job and make money? Yes! Do I have the time to release a top quality let’s play or speed build video daily? Absolutely not. And in fact, I haven’t uploaded anything in two weeks because my kids are on Winter Break and it’s just not feasible for me to record anything while they are home. I had a big break over the summer for the same reason, and my channel continued to grow, albeit slowly, and picked up again in September when school started.
I really liked the advice about the thumbnails! That is probably my weakest element at the moment.

She tried for a few months but got disheartened even though we told her she just needs patience and practice. I’m definitely sharing this instructional video with her! Awesome video. I am small TH-camr, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. If you are not popular, people won't care even if you have the best videos and the best content on platform. I am not beginner anymore, but I know how hard it can be (and honestly if I didn't use a lot of Fame- ster, I would have quit a long time ago. It made everything much easier for me, especially getting to 1000 subs and view hours).

I've got over a thousand videos, and almost 5000 subs but still not monetized. I don't get a ton of feedback so I'm always guessing what they want. You gave some really good pointers. I am just an old lady who loves simulation gaming...lol. I had a lot to learn about making videos and youtube in general that I haven't really dived into the content or thumbnail issues very much yet. Your breakdown was simple and easy to understand, unlike so many others who get too technical. I think I now have a grasp on what I need to do this year. It's going to be a gradual change so I don't upend those who enjoy my channel. Thanks so much!

OMG, this was amazing! Thank you for making this and for not regurgitating the same script as all the other "gurus". Honestly, I watch your videos because you're REAL - maybe that's what chaotic and brutally honest actually means. I mean, aren't we all just a bit chaotic in our real human lives? I am definitely using these tips to create a new channel. I keep saying 'it's too late to make videos about *this game* because everyone has already started playing it.' But I started gaming after some of my favorites were out for years, so why not make videos for those who are just starting? I'm deleting all the other "how to start and grow a youtube channel' videos I had saved. This answered my questions.
Also, your laugh isn't annoying or distracting. It's one of the things I look forward to in each of your videos. It sounds weird so I hope you don't take it like that LOL. To me, it just means you're honestly enjoying what you're doing and it shows. It's not fake and I love it! Thanks for being you :)

Thank you for this Satch, this wasn’t the sort of video I was planning on watching but it’s exactly what I needed. I’m not sure what my niche is as I feel I’m quite an all-round sort of person (except for sporty) and I feel I can get bored from focusing on the same thing 24/7. My next door neighbour is a gaming TH-camr with over 1 mil subscribers and I feel so tempted to ask for advice on dealing with technology when starting out but who’s to say I don’t start a ladies podcast next year lol. Honestly, thank you very much for this video :) Although there are some things I am not entirely sure about, it really was a great starting point. Becoming a TH-camr has been on my mind for quite a while but I am very camera shy and do not know where to start so this was really helpful. Also some general feedback - I very much enjoy watching your videos because you find balance between a good lil trauma dump and not being family friendly opposed to actually playing the game and recommending content. Also you are a very relatable character in terms of sitting in you pyjamas and a bathrobe at times cause you don’t feel well. It makes you feel human and like „just another average person“ which is comforting for someone who also has trouble even getting out of bed sometimes. Have a great day!

Does your income as a youtube creator change based on whether or not we skip the ads in the middle of the video? I listen to/watch a lot of videos while I'm cooking or washing dishes. Sometimes my hands are free to skip the ads and get back to the content I want to watch (like yours) and sometimes I just suffer through the ads. Does it make any difference?

    • @sahm_and_bean
      @sahm_and_bean ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not satch, but the most recent info I've seen is you need to watch for a few seconds after the skip button shows up for it to count as a true (paid) view. You don't have to watch the whole thing, although that helps, but if you skip immediately it won't always count toward that creator's ad views.

I watched the whole video. I don’t usually do that. This helped me. I’ve been on TH-cam for 3 years now and went viral with shorts. However, whenever I post a long form video, I get no views at all so in my case viral means nothing. I got subs but they don’t want to watch long form. I’m also a French Canadian and would like to do some French content but I’m scared people won’t watch 🤣 isn’t this ironic ? haha no one watches anyway. I feel as if I have to start all over again because becoming viral gave me a false sense of success. Through most of this it got really creepy hearing all the things that make a person click off that matched me. Funny thing though, I literally just told my husband that I found a new person to put on in the background. This was solely based on your voice, accent and your laugh. I'm American, but he's from Scotland, so I made him listen because I was trying to guess what part of England you were from, lol. I had to rewatch the part where you said Americans told you to stop using a fake British accent three times because I was laughing so hard! 😂

Perfect timing! I am just starting my little TH-cam channel and filming for the first time tomorrow. I’m so nervous but I’m so excited!

This video gave me a lot more confidence about filming and being less nervous about uploading. Thank you for these tips, I feel like this was filmed for me to not be nervous. You’re so down to earth and real. Helped more than you’ll ever know.

I grew my main channel to almost 10k subs and I’m finally taking this gaming channel seriously! I’m hoping 2024 is the year I’m able to make this one pop off because my gaming videos are some of my favorites and nobody likes my gaming videos on my main channel 😭💐

You calling yourself a "small" TH-camr made me whimper. Put the term "micro" into perspective for me, 🤯lol I love your work and consider you one of the greatest Sims TH-camrs!

Thank you for this video! It was fun to watch and I'll try to implement some of it on my channel too. I also think that copying someone else's style at the beginning is okay and I think most people will with time and experience find their own style of editing. Good luck everyone! 🙌

You need to make more of these kinds of videos. I am going to use this. I love your “ I’m not here for any of your 3 simple steps shit I’m gonna tell you how it is” attitude. That’s what makes this such a great tutorial. A lot of people around me ( coincidentally adults) tell me that being a TH-camr is hard and some of them even without directly saying it think that TH-cam is not a good job. But you are saying that TH-cam isn’t hard it’s just getting out there that’s the hard part. I learned so much I could write a college essay about what I learned even when I’m just going into high school next year. But I won’t. Cuz no one would read it. Just know you should make more of this type of stuff your actually gifted at it.

This is a video I needed to hear and see. At times we gauge ourselves to bigger youtubers trying to the same methods in a way. The creative / fun perspective VS Informative is actual fact, I have had more info regarding information than actual funny fun videos.
Legit the first video with some real info, the whole 'Cracking' Algorithm never made sense to me. Obvious click bait and I dont want to make click bait or be a click baiter. I like having genuine videos I create, edit all myself. Lot of work but I enjoy it!

Thank you for the info. I absolutely hate click bate! In dark souls games people love putting 500,000,000 runes an hours which is impossible in any dark souls game unless your cheating the game. Your delivery is precise and that is a gem in this day and age

Thank you for this info Satch. Just the info I've been looking for as a very small youtuber struggling to grow my channel. Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Though I still have some questions, you've definitely answered some of my big questions and back off to the drawing board I go😆 You are Greatly Appreciated ❤

Absolutely amazing video. Love that you dropped the bull. Most videos are speaking to "Small" youtubers that have already hundreds if not thousands of subscribers. I do not I really started digging into it about 2 months ago and just really want to learn and grow. Your video is simple yet informative and honestly encouraging. Thank you for being you and sharing your experience and insight into the youtube world. 🎉

Also, thank you so much for this video. I've only been at it for a few months but it's so difficult to know if you're doing the right choices. I also opt for the organic growth thinking and do not wish for any viral videos but yea.. patience and consistency.. I'll keep grinding :)

I have watched your video like 2-3 months ago. Now I'm back. Thank you for your info. Man your laugh is killing me :-D. I created my channel year ago but started just like 5-6 weaks ago. Now I'm like why I haven't started earlyer? Alot of things you have said helped me. I thing just start is good advice. Doing first few videos to learn to filming, geting audio right etc. is a good idea too. I think gaming is a specific niche in it self and it works quite diferent in my opinion. I did 3 playtrought of older and smaller games with goal to get in to few new games this fall and in February. I think geting in to new hot topic is a good idea since YT is not filled to brim whit that kind of content yet. It helped me alot. I'm still not monetized by I can see the progress. I didn't thought that I will have 4 000 views on my video fo much longer. It's trou I have much less view on my playtrought videos and much more on info videos. I think that info/playtrought combo is good. I do what I like + something extra that will bring more attention to my channel. I'm not super into controversies either, so I don't expect people to see the drama super quickly.

5:58 This is something I can agree on. Famous TH-camrs tend to have overloaded community that can be toxic at times if you show any sort of disagreement at all - something I definitely can't bother to entertain myself with
