    Great discussion! I just threw on a pair of Kryp Fr trail on the front and rear about a month ago. Absolutely love the tires. They roll quick for an enduro tire, air up to a true 2.4 inch, lean in predictable ( no float zone), have a well defined edge, and inspire confidence. The big gains I have felt on this tire over an assegai are 1 mud grip/ clearance ( less of that mayonnaise on the shoe feeling ) 2 more defined edge 3 a nicer grip- slip characteristic. When this tire breaks traction breaks its a lot more gentle, and regains grips quicker>> means much easier to explore the limits. As a trail tire I have not had any issues with punctures, light tire pinging sensation, or excessive rolling.

      @dustinbjohnson  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I 100% agree dude! I really hope to see the trail casing get that soft compound in the future just for a touch more confidence from the front. But other than that they are perfect!

    I liked the Tacky Chan on my rear, but despite going for the soft over the super soft, it barely held half a season for me. Definitely trying out the Kryptotal next!

  • @NDietrich
    @NDietrich 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    They definitely need softer compounds for the trail and enduro casings. I was running Krypto Fr and Re enduro combo most of the summer doing enduro/trail riding with some racing. Best tires I've run by far and have almost 1000km on them, front almost looks new and rear is not bad considering. No torn off side knobs like other brands.

      @dustinbjohnson  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Damn that’s awesome!! Usually tires with longer life usually sacrifice traction. But doesn’t sound like the case with whatever magic conti has in these tires!

  • @BryanHoefer
    @BryanHoefer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I ran a Tacky Chan front over the summer and it's excellent. I switch the front over for the Magic Marry in the winter, it punches through leaves and pine straw on the wetter fall / winter trails.
    I folded the side knobs over on the Magic Marry in the summer when the trails are dried out and hard. The Tacky Chan side knobs don't fold and as a bonus it rolls a little faster. TC feels a lot like an improved DHF. I'll put it back on as trails dry out in spring.

    100% agree, been running them for close to year now. Initially I blew up 2 trail/endurance tyres within a week, so pretty much had to move the enduro casing rear. I love the endurance compound in the rear but require an enduro casing in my area. I run them on my trail and enduro bikes but currently moving away from them on my enduro due to the exact points you've made here. My ideal setup which they dont offer either would be 2.4 xynotal rear endurance compound in enduro casing, and 2.5 kryptotal Fe enduro super soft. They honestly compete so well with maxxis but just so limited with offering. MAKE THE TYRES WE WANT
    On a side note ive been runnign through brand, next month is Veetyre Attack HPL front and FSX rear. They arent avaliable in my country and ive imported them from the US, great online reviews. Hopefully they can compete with the conti's!

      The trail/endurance casings. I do wish they had more options with their casing and compounds. But I think the trail/endurance is closer to a 3C MaxxTerra than a Maxxis Dual Compound. But it is kinda like comparing apples and oranges when you get to comparing compounds.

  • @NDURcycling

    Bro! I've had the Continental Kryptotal F and Kryptotal R for about 2 months now. Just the trail casing. I LOVE THEM! Live in Albuquerque NM so been able to ride all winter in our great foothills which offers everything when the higher forrest trails are frozen. Mainly loose over hardpack with chucky granite rocks here and there and steep sections, but also mellow flowy stuff too. I was a big Assagai F exo+ and Agressor dd guy before. But the Kryptotal F & R Trail casing is holding up strong. Amazing grip on the downs and steep loose ups. I love that it grips so well but also feels fast rolling. I'm training for my first race and these tires feel good on loose and hardpack flowy mellow trails and steep stuff. My front tire tends to slip a little bit when I lean hard on super sharp turns, but gets better when i run lower pressure around 20-23. A little stickier would be nice like you said! Cheers bro!

      You'd probably really like the Enduro/Soft up front. I do find the Contis like about 3psi lower than Maxxis. I was running Assegai maxgrip EXO+/DHR maxterra EXO++cushcore for ages and just switched to Kryptotal Fr DH/Super Soft and Kryptotal Re DH/Soft and ditched the cushcore. Very happy with them so far. I ride Colorado Front Range so not too different from ABQ, though we have lots of pointy rocks so trail casings get murdered here.

    I agree with the trail enduance weight and sidewalls feel like exo. Same with feeling like dual compound. I ran krypto fr and re when it was warm out. I noticed the drifting front and rear evenly. It wasn't one end or the other. It was predictable like you said. Felt like when I had a Disector and hit the open transition between the center lugs and the outside lugs. Endurance tread holds up better than Maxterra and rolls faster. When it got cold the Endurance compound git sketchy. Had to throw the dhf and dhr2 Maxterra to feel comfortable. Unfortunately around here in MO an exo and trail casing don't work. Sidewalls are too thin. Run my rears at 28psi and still put a hole in the sidewall I can put a couple fingers in just like an exo. The enduro casing looks to have the same sidewall as the trail. If I buy another set I'll have to buy downhill soft rear and enduro soft front. I think I'll loose the speed of the trail though. Time is running out, but still haven't made up my mind what I'm going to run.

    The krypto rear is good, when is just loose conditions only, i like it alot when parks are blown out and its just silt. The xynotal has been my favorite all round from Continental, i raced the dh casings (soft r, supersoft f) and was taken away with how easy acceleration is our of turns or accidental overbrakes, Kryptofront is good everywhere, really cant miss with either one when used in the soft compound. Also xynotals are more available in dh casings for those who struggle to find the DH krypto fr 🤐

I have them in the DH casing and supersoft compound since I couldn't find a soft version for the rear, but for some reason the rubber on the rear tire is much softer than the front, wish it was the other way around... Might've been a early issue that they've since fixed, looking forward to trying the Xynotal once the trails dry up!

    I've been running the Kryptotal Fr front and Xynotal rear in enduro casing for about a year now. This seems to be the most popular config i've seen out on the trails. Still plenty of life left although my xynotal is starting to wear down. Also noticing the casing has softened a little more. I'm hoping conti gives us more casing/compound options in the future. Would love to run trail casing ultra soft comp front and enduro casing endurance comp xynotal rear.

    Aaron Gwin was heavily involved with Kenda for a couple years "fixing" their tires. Aaron states that to HIM having a tire which was predictable was far more important than one which had more grip (IE: Assegai). That was my complaint with Assegai, you were locked in until you were lying on the ground, wondering what happened. With the Pinners they gave a noticeable warning/feel of when you were approaching the end of traction, which was fantastic to ride. I rode their Pinner's in both Trail and DH casings. Unfortunately with them you can only get the soft compound with the DH casing. That tire was excellent, but again had no compound/casing options.
    This is also why NOW I prefer the DHF over the Assegai. The Ass-guy has more grip, but no warning. I assume Aaron is doing the same with Vee now that he's changed sponsors to them.
    Continentals are SO close to checking all the boxes!

    I had the Krypto RE Trail Endurance/ Krypto FR Enduro Soft combination on my hardtail. It does pedal really well. And the soft in the front is as you said pretty much comparable to Schwalbe Soft or MaxTerra. Downside as mentioned, you get SuperSoft with Continental only with Downhillcasing. With Schwalbe Ultra Soft is available on SuperTrail, but SuperTrail 2.4 Mary or Big BEtty rear already weigh around 1200 to 1250grams. I have been running SuperTrail on my Enduro for a while and I never had a puncture/snake bite in 2.5 years. The Trail casing on the Continental does feel a lot weaker than SuperTrail. Still, I ordered the Continental combo again for my new trailbike, partially for aesthetic reasons ;)

    So Conti is expanding their offerings I've heard Trail/Soft and Enduro/Super Soft are on the way and I believe they've already sent some to Revel for their OEM spec (Revel is specing the new Contis on their bikes). I just recently switched from Maxxis and went DH/Super Soft Kryptotal up front and DH/Soft Kryptotal out back. The Kryptotal rear is the best back tire I've ever ridden, the front is good, I would say it is just as good as an Assegai overall, corners a bit better than the Assegai, but I think the Assegai still has a slight edge through gnar and really loose stuff due to the extra width. I would kill for a 2.5 or 2.6 width Kryptotal front in super soft compound, an Enduro/Super Soft would be great as well, the DH casings are a bit stiff. One thing I've found is that the Kryptotals seem to prefer about 2-3psi less tire pressure than Maxxis.

Ive settled on the Enduro casing , soft compound Krypt. FR on the front and rear, , I'll also run the Xyno, Enduro casing soft in the back for harder pack courses. I did the Kryptotal front and Xynotal rear on my 120mm in soft enduro but haven’t got enough miles on them yet. Bought a Kryptotal rear as well just to try. The tread alignment on the Chinese made ones are too poor for my taste, I had to get the German ones and I don’t wanna change them to Chinese versions. So I’ll probably go back to Maxxis on there.

      @@dustinbjohnson How’s the tread alignment? Basically look to see how well the sipes are aligned in the center tread. German ones are perfect and the Chinese ones (I went to 4 stores and saw 18 examples) varied up to 1mm out of alignment. I don’t think you would feel it on the trail but visually it drives me nuts, like a crooked sticker. The branding is also a slightly different colour and didn’t match the Ohlins as well.
      AFAIK all manufacturers have tread alignment issues in MTB tires, but IMO they shouldn’t. Maxxis always has some perfect so I select those.
      I feel like they launched out of Germany and were received well, then shipped the manufacturing to China and the alignment is bad, the inside of the casing is not as consistent either, so worse quality but didn’t drop the price.
      I’d also like more casing/compound options but recognize they matched them based on intended speed and application. Super soft wouldn’t work on a trail casing as if you were going fast enough to need super soft you’d blow the tires up first run and would hate the lack of sidewall support. Admittedly I’m heavier as well.

    It’s not the compound. The endurance compound is stickier than max terra. Way better grip on rock and root when the compound matters and the tread doesn’t. Loose over hard is on the tread, I’m not sure which of the 3 thread patterns that conti sells that are for loose over hard, not sure if it’s the xontals or the argotals.

      Krypto RE on front and rear over here. 2.6 enduro front and 2.4 trail rear. It’s perfect in my opinion. Rear is extremely predictable to slide, long lasting, and rolls better than DHRII for similar lug aggressiveness. Front 2.6 allows those higher lean angles and grips beautifully.
