one thing i've noticed about the title screen is that the sprite bears a striking resemblance to the model used on the cover of the Virtual Sonic album
IMO it def makes sense - Sonic 2 was built off of Sonic 1 (as the Nick Arcade proto shows), seems logical to take twhat exists, and tweak it into something new than to just write it from scratch.

I always thought that the Title Screen lasted only for such a short time, because back then they still had the Sonic 2 Title Theme. Turns out, I was wrong. Keep at it though, can't wait for the next one!
I'm guessing the 47 frame animation in the title screen would've essentially been similar to the S3 title screen we got (like where Sonic flies into the Screen), but less optimized and more smooth

people! we need to keep searching for Sonic 3 prototypes! if we're lucky, we might find a build that's older than this one! (the 1103 prototype is actually from late October. i would assume it to be dated somewhere between October 20th and October 31st, meaning that the proto is from the last month of development)
So for stuff like 2:56 that still exists unused in the final game did dataminers find this stuff before knowing about the prototype and just not really know what it was or did they only find it after seeing it in the prototype and looking for it?

actually interesting that there are 47 (43) different frames coded in. would have it resulted in a longer/smoother animation? I dont think there was one, just coded into the ROM before the sprites being imported, since the tiles would have taken up a lot of cartridge space.
I hope Sonic 3 Alpha broken palette SEGA logo sonic joins the ranks of Weichidna and Ashura and Blue Knuckles. gotta admit the black and orange eyes with the white shoes looks pretty cool.
The model of Sonic in this protorype feels more akin to S1/S2 Sonic instead of the final one which is akin to S3/SK Sonic. EDIT: That model feels more or so likely the same one used in SK's title screen and in Blue Spheres.

Hi there. I don’t know if this was already known, but basically on RetroArch, I pressed the Y + Start button on the title, and when I loaded AIZ it gave me the debug mode. Now, I know that the Genesis controller as 3 buttons, but any explanation on why this happens?

i would too tbh

Yes, it's the same or an earlier version of it.
I wonder what animation could have facilitated 47 frames, and what kinda movement woul dhave made the repeat in frames 5-8 work? Very cool find!
Surprising to see that this is an updated version of Sonic 2's engine.
I mean, sonic 2 was built on top of sonic 1 so of course they’d do the same for sonic 3.
