  • Thanks for watching , so what would you do ? swap or stick ? 🤔
    Personally, the extra £20k to change to a NEW Niro EV4 for just the HUD , V2L , Summon ( via the key) is too much !
    I also like the fact that the e niro does look 'bland' , but is so brilliantly efficient.
    Let me know your thoughts in the comments !

    Although both are far too big for me, I prefer the older car as I am an enthusiastic consumer of digestive biscuits.

    The most good news is the Niro II has still battery from SK Innovation(better technology, low fire risk), Good Job Kia! :-)

    Great side by side comparison. Personally I think colour makes a big difference on the original e-Niro, for me especially the Yacht Blue make the car look great and not bland or plain. The new models solid rear quarter panels compared to the windows on the earlier model limit the drivers view there. The new cars display in front of the driver looks nice but all in all there is nothing on the new car that would induce me to change my existing e-Niro 4+

      Like any 'new' technologies, prices will be ( and are) falling over time.
      Think mobile phones in the 80's , flat screen TVs etc etc

    I'm with you, Jonathan. I love my e-Niro and the fact that the Niro EV is bigger is not a plus for me. The Niro now must be at the lower end of similar cars in terms of maximum charge speed, so it's a shame Kia haven't addressed that.

    One great feature missing from the older vehicle is something I really miss from the leaf, the i pedal. My next bev might be the Mercedes EQB for taxi work. I’ve got quite a few issues at the moment (going in for warranty work in july) my steering is able to make slight bends without the self steering enabled maybe caused by an annoying centre dead spot (I’ve had new tyres and tracking) the electric motor has an awful whine when on trailing throttle and the clicking gear box mounts noise has returned along with the standard kia creaking suspension/mounts. I’ll report back when issues done. Personally I think the huge torque through the steering has caused one of my issuers hence the new vehicle has reduced amounts. Cheers

    • @JonathanPorterfield
      @JonathanPorterfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      The niro ev DOES have a 'i pedal' regen setting , i missed this out !
      Hope you get the issues sorted !

    As you know JP, we have the slightly earlier 4 and I’ll stick with the torque….if only it came with a tow hitch….all them lb-ft would come in handy.
    Also after 2 yrs & 30k plus, she’s still a winner.

    Nice comparison of the old vs new. I'm really pleased with my new NiroEV 4. The addition of auto lane change on motorway when using the adaptive cruise control is very nice, it also adjusts the maximum speed where variable speed limits are in force. Maybe use the new 4 on your next trip darn sarf and see what you think 🤔
    Only downside vs my previous 28kWh Ioniq is the efficiency of the NiroEV can't match the #Windknife. But then the NiroEV will do 280 miles vs 150 in the Ioniq

      Nice 👍 I would like to take the new Niro EV 4 on a long test , but our customer wouldn't be best pleased if i put more than the 20 miles showing on the dash !
      Good to hear of the new features you've found usefull , is it £20k more useful over a used 21 plate 4+ ?

    Both are good but a bit too big for what we need as our 1st EV. Currently we are looking at a used 1-2 year old top spec facelift Kona Ultimate as a second car for my wife. It will only ever be charged from home & used for local trips & the odd longer trip within the range of the 64kWh battery. Personally I'm Hobnob man.

    • @JonathanPorterfield
      @JonathanPorterfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      Love a hobnob too ! Kona a fine ev , just a bit to small inside for me.

    • @richardhaywoodh
      @richardhaywoodh ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have e-Niro & Kona Facelift, yes the Kona is a little smaller, especially in the cabin & boot area, but you can make the boot almost as big as the e-Niros using a custom flat boot floor

    The towing is make or break for me. I might be driving one now if the original had it (officially) but I could not get it then and ended up getting a used ICE to tide me over a few years. Maybe in a couple of years.

    I have just charged my new kia Niro 2 for the first time on a public
    charger 174 khw shellrecharge. when it
    started I got 46khw to 80%, then 27khw at 90% then 17khw at 100% full charge.does this seem right.did not warm battery.

      Thanks for watching Richard , I appreciate it 👍 .
      A number of factors affect charge rates , local supply to the rapid at that time period you where plugged in , air temp, temp of battery when plugging in, SOC when starting the rapid. All of the above will dictate the DC charge rate on all EVs

Could sell privately to lessen the hit, but still not great, and scary !!

    EV are NOT Eco cars! They are far more environmentally damaging than a modern diesel. Due to manufacture they use 100 to 300 barrels of oil in their production on average. The rare earths used in the battery are mined in new mines often by child slave labour. To make one 450 kg battery more than 300,000 tonnes of earth are mined to produce it. They are a far higher fire risk than a petrol or diesel car and fire services have to send twice the number of appliances to try to extinguish it. The crews using around 30,000 liters of water to control it whereas a ICE fire need around 3,000 litres so these EV fire will use more of the water we need to live

      No rare earths in batteries. ICE cars typically catch fire 20x more than Electric cars. Thes rest of your claims are also complete bobbins.

    I’ve had both & am now back in a 4+ because the 4 let me down multiple times with zombie mode. Kia were totally useless, the dealer couldn’t care less and Lex, my lease co, wouldn’t take responsibility, so I gave it back and am now a lot of money out of pocket because there were no other suitable cars in sock
