Since you are going to make cutters, how about showing your secret cutter design for lathe rubber cutting. I just bought some hockey pucks.

What is the maximum RPM for the face plate?

Hi Don. I loved how you went thru all your chucks. I just upgraded to a new to me lathe (1986 Harrison 11x30) and was contemplating buying a Chinese CME 6 jaw chuck for tubing and bushing work. I learned the hard way when making bushings for another lathe I’m restoring. The bronze bushings were all distorted ever so slightly. I was using a 3 jaw 6” Bison at the time. Do you find the lack of “adjustability” of your 6 jaw an issue for dialling work in?

Hi, the old 6" Buck 6 jaw chuck I have does have the four side screws for adjusting radial run-out. Chucks without that runout adjustment I have had to grind the jaws in place on the lathe to run true, both my 8" and 12" non adjustable 3 jaw chucks. I more or less use the 6 jaw for parts over the size range of the 5C collets. The 6" and smaller sized 6jaw chucks are not very strong but work good for light work like tubes and bushings, thanks.

I’m not overly fond of the 5-C or R-8 collets. I think we’ve talked about that. ER and DA are much better. Buck, at least, makes a forged steel 4 jaw.

The 5C collets are probably used for 150 years, we are stuck with them. The Buck 12" 4jaw chucks are nice looking and made to special order, around $3500 with a mount it appears.

That is good news, I have bought a few hard to find attachments from them, thanks!
